Got this one some months ago to play at home and also to play at church. It's just so comfortable and it has an amazing sound. The pickup is monstrous. Very stilish, soft and versatile bass. I feel it's a bass made mostly for genres like jazz, blues, soft rock, gospel, and similar music, not really for hard rock or metal, but you could still use it for everything without a problem.

you forgot the funk genre...where a humbucker with a the Stingray position works so good!

Bought one the other day. Very nicely put together, with decent fittings. More tonally versatile than you would expect. Sounds great with flatwounds. Good value, too.

I put a set of flats on mine, but didn't like it at all. I went back to rounds. The Kiloton has a very pronounced bump in the lower midrange. And flatwound strings naturally have that same bump at a similar frequency. Together it was just way too much to my ears. In a band situation, it certainly "cut through" (which it does no matter the strings), but it just tired my ears out really fast with that super-sharp midrange hump. For me, at least, the Kiloton is way more versatile with rounds because they are a bit "flatter" over the spectrum. I generally roll the tone way back anyway, so the extra high-end is no biggie. But the rounds don't overdo the midrange like the flats did. Of course, that's just based on what I like to hear coming out of my amp, so your mileage may vary. But do keep in mind that if you are expecting the Kiloton to sound like a P-bass with flats when you put those flats on your Kiloton, it ain't gonna happen. It's miles and miles away.

@@christocr of course: how could a Kiloton bass sound like a P-bass if it has a humbucker located in the same position of a Stingray bass and not a splitcoil pickup located in the same P bass position? it sounds like a Stingray, exactly like a Sandberg California Central

My son bought a G&L Tribute bass at Sweetwater last year, and it's clean and perfect. He opted for an LB-100, which is better than a US made off the shelf Precision any day. I would have bought the Kiloton. I like the novel approach to the pickup system.

I own 2 USA L2K (fretted and Fretless) and USA LB100. I've owned Fenders, Yamahas, Ibanez and Music Man's....I'll always own G&Ls, they just work. Real road dogs for sure.

    Stingray killerrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!

I'd like to hear this in fretless. The sound of it is thinner than a Stingray due to pickup position (closer to the bridge) but would be cool on a fretless.

The pickup placement is in the same location I think. Keep in mind this is a passive bass while the music man is an active bass (probably explains the thinner sound)

I own one of these things and it has a super thick tone. I legitimately can say with certainty that the kiloton pickup is in the same position. It's just passive with a selector switch. This RUclips video doesn't show the tonal qualities all that well.

They now make the tribute in a fretless version and it’s amazing

You're in luck bc the fretless Kiloton is the best fretless bass in its price range on the market.

@@BlueThunderFan99 the MM pickup is a tiny bit closer to the neck. Its pretty close though.
