Background, please. I'm glad to see you back. I missed you last week. Your videos are always entertaining, informative, and interesting! A fan from Southwest Oklahoma.
Bruce, "Click the like button at the end..." Me, clicking the like button before starting the video, "He's not let me down yet." 👍 Exeground!!! Backcution!!!
To be fair Bruce, it was simply the fact you'd posted a video that inspired me to click on it. But if you're going to insist I would prefer more background. Thank you so much ol' bean 😊
I'm more curious about the background of King James I's murder, to be honest. As brutal and as gruesome as that execution is, the history is fascinating to me.
What videos? In the words of Monty Python's Mr Creosote, "I'll ave the lot". Story teller supreme, always fascinating and always learn something Thank you!
I admire your videos, which are both educational and entertaining. Only my lack of mobility prevents me from applying to join your eleven-day tour. Thank you. Were it to be possible, I should like to learn more about the background AND the execution, please
Background. And I agree with everyone else's nice comments. Your videos are great! Scotland is high on my list of places to visit. I'll get there eventually, but in the meantime, I get to watch your videos! Thanks!
I've never come across you before but I'm impressed. Yours is a very entertaining and informative style. I like that you don't try to sugar-coat the horror and brutality of those times. So, for anyone who yearns for a return to the good old days, there weren't any!
I love learning about the background of events. It helps me understand how they came about. I learned some of this in college, but you are much more easy to understand than some university lecturers.
Apologies Bruce but I saw Celtic deliver a 3-0 execution of Rangers recently. Watching the Rangers analysts explaining their teams loss makes that the most brutal execution in Scottish history. Excellent video as always. Canadian fan of the channel.
I cannot believe even surviving the first day of that. It’s fascinating how Edinburgh was such a brutal place for so long in history and now … just lovely. How the times change. Your videos are amazing as always Bruce .
A new video from my favorite bard of history! That's why I clicked this on! I've missed my Saturday story but hope you had a fantastic birthday! From what I've seen in the comments, I think your pointing out the grusomeness of this execution with sounds of it curdled more than a few stomachs! It made me thankful that we don't think that such a thing as public execution is necessary anymore. Of course, the local newscast tells me that others think we do. I'll look at both of the other videos as anything you put out is worth watching! Please take care now! May God bless you and yours. 😊
Hi Bruce! I'm a Scot-Canadian who lives in Nova Scotia. I love my motherland, but I prefer the vast wilderness of Canada. I love Pict/Scot history and you are a great presenter.
I’d like both eventually, but would like Background first, please. Thanks again for more learning Scottish history. And very glad I got to meet you, Bruce, in Vancouver, WA this past summer.
Lovely seeing the doggos playing behind you at the end, Bruce. The reign of James VI certainly was consequential, uniting the Scottish and English crowns and starting the plantation of Ulster. It's hard to warm to many of these historical leaders when their methods were so damaging to common folk.
Happy Birthday Bruce!!! Are you having fun? I love the touch that your doing a vid in Edinburgh. Im sure you know me enough Background your going to get to the execution anyway. If you have to make it a two vid. Hugs
I'm currently reading David Mitchell's Unruly. History with a splash of humour. Did he get inspiration from your videos, I wonder? Glad to see you back.
You mentioned the Proclaimers in one video. THANKS. I'm a contemporary of theirs but was, er, studying Greek and Latin in those days instead of watching MTV. Anyway-skipping a lot of narrative-I looked up their music and can't thank you enough.
In February and March I'll be visiting the major towns in Australia and New Zealand with my live show Scotland Made the World. It would be great to see you. Get info at www.brucefummey.co.uk/shows.aspx
oh my gawsh!!! It BRUCE!!!! So great to see you holy crap this was intense. This brutal execution, more like torture and def for a show. This is timely for Halloweeny vibe...yikes!!! James the first background please. I like your jacket amigo. Holy shit all the minority monarchs:0 Honestly, I will watch whatever you upload. Your high quality story telling, including history as you know it happened is all I need. Thanks again for the lesson!!
A'reyt Bruce. Background. I commented before that not all English are so keen to bow and scrape. My native Yorkshire has many Robin Hood place names. Our US cousins point to the Magna Carta, from that era as a confirmation that everyone is equal. Our ancestors accepted Scottish kings too, so long as they did not start overruling Parliament. Then it was execution time.
I would have thought that with such a brutal execution there would be a good chance that the victim would die before they'd finished. In particular, if he were left out at night, there's the risk of hypothermia. Shock can also kill. The violence of the process makes it likely that a major vein or artery could be ruptured. Dare I say it, the fact that poor Walter Stuart survived so long suggests that he was in very good physical condition before they started killing him.
Too late your decision is done, by the time I saw this, but the minority rule one after the other was of extreme interest to me and made me think of how it affected the country, great point. 👍
Execution. If your speaking about the Wigtown Martyrs, then Yes!!! Also, are you planning a Halloween in Scotland video for next month? Spent Halloween in Edinburgh in 2019 and it was the best! 💚
Well, not exactly what I was expecting for my breakfast entertainment/enlightenment! I kept wondering at what point the prisoner would have passed out from the pain. Anyway, background.
Great video Bruce but next time I would say just make the sound effects quieter because it made it hard to hear you at times. But again overall great job
Very interesting presentation not for the ordinary casual viewer but great tale in particular that Scots tradition of minority rulers the background to the execution is a must to hear
You forgot to mention the 'Warriston Horror' of 1600, when the young wife of the Laird of Warriston was beheaded on 'The Maiden', our predecessor of the Guillotine, her nurse was burnt alive at the same time, and the man who was paid to kill the Laird of Warriston was 'broken on the wheel', the first to be executed that way and NOT the last!
Hey Bruce. I took another lotto ticket, I am determined to annoy yer one more time yet, and even buy ye a dram...don't git yer hopes up. It seems we humans, Scots and others, are never so happy as when making other folks miserable. We are no different even today. Aroha
If your eyes were gouged out the day before, you wouldn't be seeing yourself being gutted. But that's just me being picky. I clicked on this to find out who and why.
Background Nothatus was very cruel to his subjects... so cruel he eventually made laws regarding hunting dogs. He was murdered by Dowel (Dovallus) ending 20 years of nightmares that would come back to haunt them as his unwise son Theseus for 12 short years when Conan the Viceroy sent him into exile... In 134 BCE the brother of Theseus offered hope & inspiration for 24 years and his son Josina was just as well. As king, Finnan established that kings should not decide on great matters without authority of the great council. 30 more years had been counted as the glorious mountain peaks.

Background and the execution, Im a greedy bugger. 😅
You also don't understand how either/or questions work😜
Nah week past Friday when the mighty mighty pars beat the raith ❤😂coyp and thank you for the opportunity to watch/listen to a story 😂
Very interesting presentation not for the ordinary casual viewer but great tale in particular that Scots tradition of minority rulers the background to the execution is a must to hear
great stuff, Bruce, some background please.
I bet that every pub an executioner entered in his life time went so quiet that you could hear a pin drop as he walked through the door.
Background, please! (Excellent videa as always, thank you!!)
Background.
The explanation of the tale behind such an execution is more meaningful than the description of the act itself.
Background, Bruce🐻👍
I'm half Scottish ancestry . a great grandfather plus plus and a bit was tutor to James 6th ( 1st of England) Sir Peter Young
Let's go down the rabbit hole of background. Or whatever you want as you're always informative and entertaining
Humans are the most cruel.
True
You forgot to mention the 'Warriston Horror' of 1600, when the young wife of the Laird of Warriston was beheaded on 'The Maiden', our predecessor of the Guillotine, her nurse was burnt alive at the same time, and the man who was paid to kill the Laird of Warriston was 'broken on the wheel', the first to be executed that way and NOT the last!
BOTH! How could it not be both? The title begins with "WHY" and segues to "GRUESOME"!
Who can pass up a bit of history with a gruesome twist?!
It can't be both because there's only one vlivk option at the end. You can go through the back catalogue to find both though
Background. Thank you!
Here’s an idea Bruce, how about the happiest story from Scotland ever?
Hey Bruce. I took another lotto ticket, I am determined to annoy yer one more time yet, and even buy ye a dram...don't git yer hopes up. It seems we humans, Scots and others, are never so happy as when making other folks miserable. We are no different even today. Aroha
