NEW VIDEO EVERY WEDNESDAY!
Recently bought a '17 accord coupe manual v6 and I am amazed every time I shift into first gear. This thing is extremely powerful and aggressively geared. Proud owner for many years to come!
I have an '07 and I can't decide whether my next car will be a '17 like yours or a current gen Mustang GT. I guess it'll come down to if I want to upgrade for more power, what insurance will look like, and how mature I want to appear. I threw coilovers on my current 6-6 MT and I loooooove it!
@@iPwnR I have the 07 sedan v6 6spd and I love it
@@iPwnR the 8th gen is faster
Love my 2016 9.5 gen as well! Enjoy!
Still have it?
The drivetrain is one of Honda's hidden jems.

So depressing that they killed off the coupe and the v6
BrawlFreak786 fowshow
BrawlFreak786 i have my 03 Accord EXV6 Coupe. Excellent car
Would love to own this car, but i cant even find a pre-owned one on secondary market
@Guybrush Threepwood it wasn't selling as much
What was the last year of the v6 coupe?
+Engineering Explained Jason this video solidifies why i love you so much. The 0-60 test was great. I was actually impressed with your time given the conditions. Loved seeing what happened when you took off in 2nd gear as that is my gear when driving in snow and figured it would work better. Most testers would have just said forget the 0-60 and called it a day. Not you. Not only did you discuss the gearing ratio but did multiple attempts with different tatics. Seems like a small thing but i appreciate it and is the reason I love you. Amazing video as always. Great job.
Haha thank you! If it was an automatic I would have called it a day, but manuals are so dependent on how it's driven. I was still disappointed with the 2nd gear pull, it could have been more aggressive, but it was quite challenging to find that balance. Glad you enjoyed!!
+Engineering Explained i just have to agree with Blake, your unique engineering orientated way of looking at cars is why i enjoy every video you put out. I've seen bigger budgeted channels trip and hurt themselves when they try to get technical.
Well if it was an Auto, all(mostly) snow/wet mode does is start from 2nd gear, for that reason
I leased one of these for 2 years and it makes a world of a difference with the ground is dry.
Great review as usual! I have a friend who totaled his 535i and went with this as a replacement. It seems like a decent car. Definitely a good option for someone who wants something a tad bit sporty and a car they'll basically never have to be concerned about.
Manual transmission Honda Accords... they do still exist!
I work at a Honda dealership and got to drive one of these. It's a very easy car to drive and feels great
they still exist in 2019-even for the larger engine option.
They are rare but still there
2016' here , up in the Sierra Nevada, 3,000 ft. up
It’s mad I’d they’re not, Honda gearboxes are amazing!
A good reliable car company like honda should start using rwd.
+Troll Ov Metal they did with the s2000 and nsx but im saying now
+Jose Peralta 100 year plans man. Honda isn't about RWD cars with a few exceptions. Their image is built off modest cars that don't stick out at all. Until of course you learn about how they are engineered. Acura is moving towards AWD systems.
+vidurc yes i know u make very good points i have grown up in a honda family i just wish they had at least one rwd car for us young people.
Jose Peralta True. I love my 6 speed TL and CBR. Hope to get an S2k and older NSX for fun cars some day. NSX prices are going up unfortunately. S2k's are still pretty affordable.
Kind of disagree with RWD. Honda is known for making semi sporty cars for a low cost, with low insurance. If they were to make them RWD, the price would be jacked up and the insurance would go up.
I just bought a 2003 Accord V6 6 speed coupe. Graduated high school and he is happy. Now he understands what Honda meant to me
I’ve been lucky enough to enjoy my dad’s 2014 and since the day he got it i’ve wanted my own. Such an underrated car
but you know what i like more than a manual V6 accord?

If you drive on the hwy often, the automatic can get you high 30s if you don't have a lead foot. Pretty much just keep the car on VCM with 3 cylinders running and enjoy a great car for cruising & hwy pulls
From my experience the computer says high 30s but doing the calculations at the pump it is more like 32mpg. I know I'm responding to a 4 year old comment haha.
@@rydoggsc2 would you recommend this car? Looking to get a car coming from a wrangler, I don’t off-road and the mpg is terrible on highway
@@Angryeddie14 I would recommend it. Well built and rather quick if you get the V6. Mine is holding up well and I have had no problems with it.
@@rydoggsc2 hey thanks for the quick reply! Time to start looking!
Got a 2014 v6 and love it, I live in Utah and the front wheel drive handles very well in the snow
Honda should make a manual v6 Accord sedan. Perfect dad car.
The accord sport, 4 door is offer with a manual and v6 option.
Bravo tango Charlie not in the USA
The 2018 Sport has a Manual, but they've discontinued the V6. Reviews are out and the new Accord is actually faster than the 2013-2017, but there's something special about the smooth Honda 3.5L V6 engines. They really are one of the best ever made.
Acura TL 3.7 6mt SH-AWD ultimate dad car. Honda was one of the last to let go of the V6 manual. I understand the new 4cyl is faster but why don't they bring back the j series and slap a turbo on it. Just for the enthusiasts. And offer it with a 6mt only.
@@boolji I know but personally if it's not manual it's not worth getting. Personal preference. I'd rather get the 6 speed 2.0 in the accord.
Last Saturday, I bought a 2017 accord Touring V6 for 31.6K. It is a great car. I measured it against the fusion, Camry, and Mazda 6. for the camry and mazda, I was going for the top level. The fusion too. I watched all these videos numerous times and compared every stat and spec. The Accord won and after owning it, I love it more and more. Some friends on youtube helped me a great deal.
I also wanted a Honda, but accords are not sold here in Europe so now I have a mazda6 :) Both are great!
Thanks Mark. This man on the video is excellent for educating about cars. Where in Europe are you? I thought Honda were all over the world. I like Mazda and Honda. The camry is also a great car. I bought my car, but I still enjoy corresponding here. I've noticed that the more I watch, the more I learn.
Yes,Jason is indeed good at this.I live in Hungary.Yes,Honda is available everywhere, but the new Accord isn't sold here so i went with the Mazda:)Anyway I wish you lots of nice miles with it.A reliable, decent car Honda is.And that power!!!
I have a 2015 accord 6-6. I love it. There are several mods to make this car very competitive with cars you think would or should blow it out of the water. The best bang for your buck mod, at least suspension wise and possibly over all is the acura tlx rear sway bar which is a direct swap 25.4 mm. Also, with the clutch complaint, there is a clutch delay valve delete mod you can do to the slave cylinder which I have done which makes the whole driving and shifting experience much more enjoyable. I have a short ram intake installed and a borla axle back installed along with the rsb. I have plans for more.
Does the clutch delay valve delete decrease clutch life?
Save the coupe! Honda is supposedly discontinuing this bad boy in 2018: (
That's why I bought one back in June 2016. I figured this was my last shot at one of the best line of vehicles ever sold for daily use: The Honda Accord Coupe. I went all out and bought this model (EX-L V6 6MT) with the HFP kit. It lowers the car just enough to give it a more aggressive stance and help it out in the cornering, but it's not too much to make it painful as a daily.
I have the 2015 v6 coupe automatic with the paddle shifters and it blows my mind how peppy the car is for what it is. lots of fun to drive
That shift nob is same as my 07 Acura TL type-s. and also J35 engine too. Cool
Geez, every car is sooo powerful nowadays it seems. 278 hp in an accord, no turbo, daaim !! nice video gj !
word!!
Well Chevy and Ford have V6's with at least 300 horsepower so not really that impressive coming from an Accord
+Clayton Cortina yeah but their v6's are probably higher displacement than the accords engine. i think the v6 camaro has a 4.2 v6 or something like that
HighFructoseFun 3.6
Clayton Cortina close enough lol

A very good comprehensive review. Thank you. I am going to look at a 2016 Touring tomorrow (V6 Coupe)
great review reminded me of my 03 accord coupe, which is still going!
I currently own two v6 ex-l coupes. I have a lot to say of them, good and bad, but the worst of all is that Honda is now just another bean-counter car company that's forgotten enthusiasts outside of the type-r. I've owned 7 Hondas, 4 Civics and CRX models and 3 Accords. No more manuals, no more coupes, no more v6 cars, just transportation modules that RUclipsrs drool over so Honda doesn't forget to invite them to press launches.
If they rebadged this as a Prelude they would find their market. Leave the Accord name for the soccer moms and the grandmas.
truth
I just bought this today
Traded in my 01 prelude sh
Is quite a difference.
+Gabriel Boehm Exactly. If you see one in person, the Accord looks like an old's people car.
Accord V6 Coupe has been around for a long time. They've always been great. They've always been for a niche market, which is why they make so few of them. Those that have owned them typically love them.
I really do like the way a Prelude looks from the rear view mirror of my V6 Accord coupe
I was guessing that the top of 2nd gear is 6omph Jason, pretty much any Honda product has a nice shifting stick as well.
+cobra454tim Yep, as mentioned the gearing works out where redline is right around 60 mph for 2nd gear.
Am I the only one that absolutely HATES the new wheels?
x2
x3 And they have it on almost all motherfucking models..... They look hideous.
this cars HFPs factory wheel replacement actually look quite nice with armoralled up tires....but factory wheels always cost more than they need. I think this car with an HFP body kit and wheels is quite the looker....especially from certain angles
I dislike the new redesign in general. Pre facelift models had a very classy but aggressive look to them. Now, they just look ugly with the new grill and some of the new wheels. I also hate that you can't get a Coupe V6 Touring with a manual.
Honda should make a RWD version of the accord with a J37, 6spd / DCT. Or Acura.
the penguinz0 sounding of car reviews, thank you for reviewing the +4 newer year of my daily driver
I just found a 2015 one 75 miles away from me, same exact specs and color, the V6 noise is just irresistible and I've been seriously thinking about just making another financial mistake lmao

+WolfmanZX Me too! Unfortunately the Jag was at a press event and I'm yet to get their cars in for full reviews.
with this car its not just the o-60 thats good. try the 70-110 for a real treat
What else can I say other than it's an amazing car.. These Honda Accord coupe looks and drives amazingly well. I'm on my 15th Accord, 1 civic and 3 odyssey. Was going to get the CBR 600RR motorcycle but it was a bit too small for me so I went with the ZX-6R 636....
VtecHondaGuy funny I’m selling my 13’ CBR600RR and I prefer over my buddy’s zx6r
In hindsight, this car was an absolute bargain at $31K. You can't even dream of getting a near luxury EX-L car today for $31K, not to mention a V6 with 6MT.
Good idea with the 2nd gear launch in those conditions! I do hope you are scouting a different 0-60 test location because every time I see you pull onto that ramp, I can't help but wonder how different the time would be on flat pavement.
I agree. But after watching again I couldn't tell if the highway was actually going uphill or not. So maybe it was kinda flat or flatter than it looks. But any kind of a slope will make a difference.
Ur chill for telling us where the gears end
I have a 2016 Accord coupe EX, that PlayStation blue with all the flake in the paint, sick ass ride
+Engineering Explained thank you for the car reviews and the explanations on the how car features functions. Keep up the great work!!
+renarudo1 Thanks!
I love this car Honda did amazing I'm making this car two-door coupe Honda you're a winner
Finally a good Accord review
I'm 5.10 and tried the car today. I sat back comfortable ( the drivers seat was fixed to my position)
This is the exact car I'm looking for right now. Don't care how long it takes. Hopefully find a red or white one but I'll take any color if it's in good shape.
I'd like to point out that 0-60 tests are for the car speed, not the wheel speed. But for your methodology at 7:30 :
(1) point the car up a wet hill.
(2) put the car in 2nd gear
(3) rev engine, let off brake, start rolling backwards,
(4) drop clutch.
Get redline in second gear, fast !! Wheel speed 0-60 mph in 3 seconds.
best car ever made.
That’s a great car...... awesome engine/transmission combination! Save the manual. Great body lines, reliability, resale value... win, win, win...most people wont be able to steal it ( driving it away anyway :) .
Having a hard time finding one of these in a '17 manual v6
The perfect car doesn't exi...
The gearing on these cars is PERFECT; screw fuel economy.
Agree 100%
Hey Jason, I know I'm commenting hella late, and you've probably realized this by now, but taking the tire diameter from width/aspect ratio tends to overestimate a vehicle's speed quite a bit. You should always measure the diameter of the tire itself, and THEN input that into the calculator.
Great reviewer. I'd add that the under-steer is pretty bad, I got a one year old automatic for 23k and it gets from 32 to 36 mpg highway. That said it's a punishment to drive for me. The transmission chooses the highest gear at anything less than wide open throttle and downshifts to slow you down. As for reliability I haven't experienced the massive oil consumption in 20k miles that some have but I am certainly cognizant of it. All said it's a decent daily driver and what else you gunna buy?
I was so intrigued by your "double hands" I completely missed all the specs you reeled off about the motor haha. Awesome.
You should review an Infiniti Q50 Hybrid. Lots of technology to discuss in that vehicle and it's fast!! Definitely not a conventional hybrid. Two clutch packs and a conventional torque converter transmission allow it to switch between electric motor power, gasoline engine power and both on the fly. Really cool system! Oh and of course, it has the world's first steer by wire steering rack that most large magazines seem to hate. I'd really like to see your opinion on it :)
Great Review by the way!
2017 the last year on the v6 accord with a six speed. I miss hondas glory days
Still have my 2017 exl v6 manual, and it's great in snow as well
It's hard to launch the accord v6 6 speed but if you do it right on dry pavement with traction control off you should hit 5.5-5.7 0-60
Does it have a timing chain?
SO happy i bought the 2017 exl v6 coupe last year. still havent hit 30k yet
people who understand engineering or without no engineering degree but understand the basic concept of the physic aspect of it - know that transmission and engine is co-related. when people talk about torque, transmission is what make you feel the engine power. when he mention aggressive gearing, it mean that the gear ratio is short. he mention the 2nd gear is more aggressive than reverse that mean its shorter. so that mean 60mph is at 2nd gear, reverse get faster speed in the same rpm.
honda is known to mated their transmission to their engine power band perfectly. so that all gear is usable for max performance and fuel economy. the auto said to be better for fuel economy because today technologies the loss of power is far less than before. it shift near the sweet spot of the powerband that has the most torque and keeping the gear in the torque range for cruising not to mention longer gear ratio for lower rpm highway cruise. auto can have both aggressive gear in the few gears and having longer gear ratio for highway.
This model is 5.3 with stock tires manual . Around 5.7 -5.8 with the auto stock tires .
When it’s dry out obviously .
How tall are you? I am 6'6", 36in inseam. Will I fit? I found one that is four hours from me. I want to be sure I will fit before I travel. Thanks.
I really enjoy your reviews, they're really insightful, unbiased and sometimes hilarious. Especially the mini van one. Keep up the good work dude!
How do you thing you can get the most of this J35Y1 motor besides CAI and the complete replacement of exhaust (HFPC, Jpipe, Catback) did you recommend an Hondata? have you try it on your integra?
These V6s actually pull pretty nicely. I drove a older v6 and i know for sure it will beat the hell out of my dodge dart.
great video!! im just wondering if you could review the 4 cylinder accord? maybe the sport model if you can get your hands on it!! but once again great video!
Hey Jason, i have a question that i would like if you would answer in a video. What do you have to go through in order to test drive those cars? and how long does this process take?
Jason, in future videos would you be able to include metric values for power, torque, speed and weight? Being Australian I have no clue about imperial measurements haha.
Something I'll keep in mind. For power/torque we simply never refer to it in kw/Nm over here. 0-60 is equivalent to ~100 km/h. Weight is lbs/2.2 for kgs.
It's been requested frequently so maybe I'll start adding that in. Thanks!
+Engineering Explained even if the metric stuff is just shown on screen that would be great. That way you don't have to remember the values during filming.
I think your audience is growing rapidly enough that including these values would be useful for many people as well as yourself. As I said, I'm Australian but have watched your videos for ages and would love to see measurements which I have grown up with and have knowledge about. My two cents anyway.
Is Acura TL AWD 6M better or this one? How would you compare 04 to p8 Acura TL V6 6M with accord V6 6M?
I just drove one of these today. I'm 6'2" and it does have enough room, but you have to lower the seat. Visibility is good except for the rear (typical of coupes). It has great acceleration and the interior is very good.
However, the clutch sucks. It's picky and the sudden rush of torque to the front wheels makes them hop. I didn't particular care for the transmission either. Handling is good, but not easy and fun to flick around.
Overall, nice car but I don't think it's worth the $. It's just not inspiring. For my money I would take a GTI, WRX, or ST. Maybe wait for the Si later this year.
Same, I hate hate hate clutches with a high release. Like he mentioned, I like ones that start to grab when you've let up only an inch or two
I'm thinking of buying one used but can't find the 6MT. Is the automatic version reliable?
Great video Jason, this one hits a little closer to home for me as I own the exact vehicle in the 2015 model. in terms of the 0-60 times/performance, you're right about all the factors such as weight, conditions and front wheel drive but I'd like to add that the stock tires that Honda ships with those 18 inch rims are complete GARBAGE. Ive installed some p-zeros along with a couple of moderate upgrades and I'm easily back down to the 5.5 second range. again great video, super fun car to drive for sure. just get rid of those Michelins asap tho lol
I don’t get the market for this car. Full size coupe fwd? If you want something sporty why not a proper rwd?.
It's under 3400? What do you mean??? for that car that size that's light
What do u think of the lane watch system? My parents have it on their 2015 civic and i find it to be extremely useful. It's also unique to Honda if i understand correctly
It's great, I love it! Yep, unique to Hondas.
+Engineering Explained is this not similar to the blind spot monitoring in other cars?
+Timothy Lehrbass Not exactly, Honda uses an actual camera that is integrated into the right mirror and displays the whole blind spot with safety markers on the 7 inch display. It happens every time you put the right blinker on, or is activated manually by the button at the end of the stock.
Love your videos man keep up the good work
You can hit 5.5 with perfect conditions.
His description of hard to launch reminds me of my stage 1 6spd mk 7 GTI, same problem, very tough to keep from slipping all over the place. But I want one of these cars nonetheless.
Question, in terms of comparing what is more fun to drive;. Accord coupe V6 manual vs WRX STI.
If you had to compare this to the 2.3L Ecoboost Mustang as a sporty daily driver, which would you prefer? Are they similar in terms of acceleration and handling? Both seem to have similar 0-60 numbers and fairly soft suspensions.
Both solid picks, the Mustang was definitely more fun to drive.
How did you get 30.3 mpg, were you primarily on the highway?
I know it's got a horrible weight distribution can you feel that while driving it? It's something like 63/37 with that big V6/Trans hanging in front of the tires.
I wasn't pushing it very hard since it was pretty wet. Considering it's FWD I think the weight distribution is fine since there were problems getting power down as is. I don't think the Accord is likely to be the first car that comes to mind when a car buyer is looking for the most dynamic experience, so it's probably meeting its market well.
I have been poisoned by AWD and cannot imagine getting into a FWD ever again.
I got a 9th gen si to be humble. And because it was the best bang for my buck lol
+xIMoNzTeRz Me too :)
+Walter Black Im the same lol except I was hypnotized by RWD. I haven't driven a AWD car sadly.
Have fun with more understeer
Flamingo Jones and better launches
Exquisite, like a drama-free adolescence.
I was REAL interested in the 0-60, you have to get that thing back on a better day and do another pull for us!! I'm very interested in an 8th gen!
Considering it did 6.4 using only second gear, I would be willing to bet it'd be in the mid fives with perfect conditions and footwork. Unfortunately it was raining the 4 days I had it in.
+Engineering Explained I agree. Great review! Love the second gear outtake at the end!
Hey brother, wonderful review video! Where is this area you are test driving at? I love the number of curves in that area and would love to drive there sometime. Thanks
It sounds very good for a stock exhaust.
This is kind of an apples and oranges comparison I suppose, but do you prefer this or the FR-S/BRZ?
Very different machines. The Accord is more comfortable, quiet, and faster. The BRZ is much more of a drivers car, a lot more fun to drive.
Contemplating a used one 2014 or 15? Still a good buy?
I got my 15 with 30k miles. The 13-15 are a bit quicker as you can fully turn traction control off whereas the 16-17 only partially disables traction control. This car is a beast! Check the vids on my channel
I have 13' auto, when eco off and in sport mode it is a total different car! But fuel economy will suffer..Best vehicle l have owned !
Hello Engineering Explained. I enjoy watching your videos and learn a lot from them. One question for you. Do you know if this 2016 Accord coupe v6 manual comes with Rev matching? if it does, did it started in 2016 year model? I watch other videos from 2016 accord manual, and it appears it does come with rev-matching but not certain. Thanks.
mlgt23 mine is 2015 and does not have rev match
The honda accord coupe still has the best back seat passanger room of any 2 door car. Move the front seats ahead like 2 inches and a 6 foot person can sit back there all day without an issues.
The 2nd gear launch with wheel spin still wow
I would put that against a late 80s 5.0 mustang for a fun run.
I feel like the Accord will win.
Seriously loved my 88GT, but traction was its enemy for sure
thats weird, i was getting 35.6 mpg going 55 in cruise control with no ac compressor going for several hours
Talk about going grey early.
I thought I was the only person
Where are all these cars at?? I want to buy one but can’t even find a MT exl coupe
Learned from gsr integra start in 2nd gear. Used to eat mustang 5 liter no problem all naturally aspirated
You seem pretty tall, how tall are you actually? I am 6 feet 2 inches, hate having sun roof as it takes away from the head room. Wondering how I will fit in that car.
+Constantine Dinkov I'm about 6'1".
+Engineering Explained I have the 2013. Same car basically, I'm 6,4 and have no issues
Konstantin I test drove this car for my son ,It was a great fit up front in the back the head room isn't great but ok for short trips. The power is way more then I thought and I thin k my son is going to pick it up.
Sunroofs take anywhere from 2 to 3 inches of headroom in any car out there. Its because the whole mechanism has to fit in the roof its self.
Hmm good to know. Did he pick it up yet? Is he happy with it if he did? If not, what did he end up getting? Yes they seem pretty powerful. The bit of under-steer can be fixed by replacing those all season tires and installing a thicker and stiffer rear sway bar. It makes a night and day difference.
