Also the difference is that you can choose to sit in any seat in the stadium whereas it would only be safe for him to sit in these expensive, private seats. The rise in pension will not come into being until April. A lot of pensioners miss out on Pension Credit by just a few pound. The raise in pension will not help them. You will find that this winter, if it is a long cold one, there will be a more pensioners in hospital because of hypothermia, pneumonia, Strokes and heart attacks caused by the cold. We already have some of the highest death rates from hypothermia in Europe. The Government ringing it's hands as though it had no choice, it did have a choice. It brought in a wealth tax for those earning millions of pounds, a windfall tax from energy companies, re-instated the bonus cap for bankers, equalised capital gains tax to that of income tax, made NI more progressive so those earning more paid more. Pensioners don't want free bus passes, winter fuel allowances etc, we want a pension that would enable us to live a healthy life so that we do not have to choose between heating and eating. Labour could bring in a progressive income tax position so those with the broadest shoulders pay the most. BTW it could start shutting the tax loop holes and start employing more tax inspectors so that tax avoidance becomes harder.
