Ah yes, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers The Movie The Game Featuring Ivan Ooze
Indeed. That game.
The Insane difficulty is proof enough that MMPR the movie Ft. Ivan Ooze is not a Power Rangers game. You can only have 5 hits per life and there's only 4 continues which is split between you and the second player. I do like the morphing sequence since its realistic to the TV show.
It is certainly the hardest of the Mighty Morphin Power Ranger games, thats for sure.
I like this game but if playing solo I prefer the first SNES game and prefer the Genesis game to this. The main advantage this has over the first SNES game is coop. And with two of my three favorite members of the original five replaced midseason two and thus before the movie I prefer the playable cast of the first SNES game (The Genesis movie game has several levels set during season two, before the events of the movie, which include the replaced Rangers. Ironically these levels are basically covering the arc leading to the replacements joining the team) As for the armed putties maybe they were from an earlier script of the movie, or maybe they dug out some rejected plot ideas for the series to make the game longer. I mean the Rangers had energy pistols so the I'm honestly surprised idea of arming the putties with guns never occurred to Finster, Rita, or Zedd.
This video is actually part 4 of 4 where I look at all of the Power Rangers Movie games and I've already looked at all 5 of the OG Power Ranger games. Plus if you really hate yourself, one of my earliest videos (talking 8 years ago) was on Zyurangers (think I'm gonna redo that one). Having played all of them, my personal favorite is the Sega Genesis Movie game for its coop, controls, and thats just the one I have the most nostalgia for.
@@InfiniteComboReviews I played the Genesis movie game a lot while visiting my cousins who owned it but I had the SNES beat em ups and the first Gameboy game at home. I always wondered why there was never a Power Rangers the Arcade game beat em up.
@@roguerifter9724 I rented most of the Power Ranger games as a kid, but the Genesis and gb movie games were the only ones I owned.
Irrc Shadow Dancer is the oldest game i know with a jumpig plains gimmick
Ooooh! I'm going to have to look into that game!
Want a true, masochist way to play this game?
I dub it "Billy%" - play through the entire game on hard mode as Billy, but you cannot morph. (Automatically morphs for bosses) 🙃
That sounds awful
@InfiniteComboReviews what's even more awful, and I have video proof of this: after finishing the stage 4 boss, the blow up death animation doesn't happen. The boss just slowly walks off the screen and the game gets soft locked. 🤣
@@MegaMan306 I've had that happen to me before! No footage though.
Having no Megazord fights is my biggest strike against this game. I can forgive the first SNES game (also developed by Natsume) for only having two fights because those two fights were at least different and unique from the rest of the game. If you're not going to incorporate Megazord fights, then it's not really Power Rangers, it's just a generic superhero beat em up.
I feel that. Sadly the game for the Sentai Turbo was based on has the same problem, only a bit worse.
@@InfiniteComboReviews It's just weird to me because the Jetman game (also developed by Natsume) while not perfect gave a reliable, solid model for how to adapt Sentai/PR into a video game format that was just abandoned for some reason. I would love to have a low budget beat em up modeled more after the Genesis games. Also, why are the Genesis games the only ones that actually have female Ranger sprites. The SNES's graphics are great, but everyone is mostly just pallet swapped Red Rangers.
@@Nielzabub Ooh. It's been a good while since I played (and reviewed) the Jetman game but the zord battles stand out in my mind very well. As for the female sprites, pretty sure, at least with the movie games, that the SNES game just got repurposed so the probably just drew over older sprites.
Will you have a way of trying out the Hurricanger game on Playstation? It's very much like a 3D upgrade of the Game Gear games in a way, and it's a huge shame they never tried to adapt it into a Ninja Storm game.
I'm sure I can pull it off. I've played Carranger before.
@@InfiniteComboReviews I hope so, I very recommend it. Are you familiar with the PlayStation Sentai games? There was also a Gaoranger game with the same gameplay, though I recommend the Hurricanger game a bit more because it refined a few things. In Gaoranger you could only play as GaoRed with the rest of the team only coming to do assists. Hurricanger lets you play as the whole team with 2P co-op or an AI Ranger helping you (Though like the Game Gear Power Ranger game you can only choose the first three Hurricangers at the start) as well as adding a modern fighting game superbar. There’s even a bonus side story based on the Gaoranger crossover where you get to play as GaoRed!
@@JESmith Can't say that I am. I'm admittedly a pretty casual Power Rangers fan as an adult, but I do intend to cover all of the Power Ranger / Super Sentai games over time. I've only got one more Mighty Morphin game left to go! Then I think I'm gonna try and go in order of US seasonal release, so like Zeo, then turbo, ect. Though I do have a friend that will play any coop game with me if I ask him so I definitely want to check that out.
@@InfiniteComboReviews Should of asked if you were doing them in season order heh. Guess it'll be a while till you get to those then, though it'd be fun to see them compared to the US Wild Force and Ninja Storm games on the GBA that we got instead. But seeing that the Gaoranger and Hurricanger Playstation games were similar to the Game Gear tiles, those are defiently worth looking at, especially Hurricanger. Gaoranger didn't have as many special moves to pull off either, but Hurricanger like the Game Gear titles has Street Fighter-style special move commands for each Ranger.
Like the Game Gear games, they are a bit short with the story modes only taking an hour (With Hurricanger having an extra 30 minutes with the Gaoranger extra stage). Gaoranger is also lacking in extras, with only a survival mode. Hurricanger however along with survival also has a VS mode like the Game Gear game where you can play as all the Rangers, mooks and monsters. Unlike Gaoranger it also has a shooting gallery minigame played twice during the story where you shoot at mooks with shurikens. This is also an unlockable extra where you can play it by itself.
Megazord fights are played a bit different, with you trying to knock the monster's attack back at it and then rushing in to combo it. (Better than the Zord battles in the Ninja Storm GBA game, which are just QTEs with you pushing a button along with the direction on what side of the screen they appear on it...which the game doesn't tell you. Wild Force GBA at least does them as a 2D fighting thing with only QTE specials)
Oooh. I've definitely looking forward to playing them. @@JESmith
any perry defense or dodje move?
I don't know when these mechanics were implemented. but a scrolling fighting game must have survival ability in my opinion
The Megazords have a block, but otherwise I named everything you can do.
You were totally right, the Genesis version is far superior
It's pretty crazy how different they are.
Yeah I honestly thought the SNES and Genesis game were the same thing just ports! Thanks for letting me know about this@@InfiniteComboReviews
Absolutely! @@RetroKingPin
Another great review from my boy! This one is climbing up in price nowadays.
Thanks. Yeah RetroDrew was mentioning that to me because he was interested in picking it up. Was, until he saw the price.
@user-oi6ct9rj6x 😆
Genesis was better, beat em up style like street rage and final fight
Seems to be the general consensus and I agree.
Algorithm moment
What?
The gameplay is repetitive
Side scrolling brawlers don't usually get that deep. Plus it's only a 30-40 minute game.
