The mountain of corpses is the erdtree. Root of erdtree is made of bodies. “Story of seduction and betrayal” Marika seduced the old man who I think is the king of the land. Marika impaled and trapped him, ordered Mesmer to take over his kingdom, took over the primordial and used it to create the erdtree and the golden order. And perhaps used the corpses of war to create the root of the erdtree. The eye extracted in the beginning is something that is used to create runes. Also notice Mesmers army, they’re blind. That’s why they have such clean formations even in chaos bc they can’t see. Miquella is most likely here bc he rejected golden order, hence he’s also a target of Mesmer. But he’s here to perhaps create his own tree, just like Marika did with the corpses, bc his haligtree failed and the golden order failed to cure Malenia. Soo all this is to cure Malenias rot. Wonder how he’s going to react once he finds out we killed her 🤔

A couple things I want to get your feedback on, seems like you might be able to connect the dots since you understand the lore so well... 1. The land of the shadow, you mentioned the vail over the sky kind of looks like the queens room or something like that, as if it hiding something.. it reminded me of the stealth black assassins.. maybe it's connected? 2. When you were trying to figure out if Mesmer's flame is new, you were commenting on it's visuals when he's sitting on the throne in the DLC teaser. To me, the shape kind of looks like deathroot and maybe Mesmer is burning or something giving it the red/black astatic.. It might be nothing but maybe you can do something with the information
I have to disagree with the idea Milania lost. I think people assume she had to set the rot loose but we have no idea what her goals for even going to Calid were save maybe to take Rhadan’s great rune. I’m still curious if Miquella didn’t have some influences over this decision. I think the use of “stalemate” was literally that neither could kill the other or take there great rune. I think in being unable to defeat Rhadan. Milenia might have nuked it simply so he couldn’t intervene in Miquella’s affairs. There’s even the possibility of Miquella having some sort of hold on her to the point of compelling her to use her rot…. I’m just saying. To say she lost is an over statement. I know y’all hate her and love your Goodest big boy (I have room for all) but I don’t think it was as simple as “she got slapped and was desperate.” Also I take her being “dragged back” as probably going unconscious after using the rot. The power probably overwhelmed her body. I don’t think Rhadan exhausted her. I think her desperation came more out of appeasing Miquella and his plans than just “Rhadan clapped her cheeks.” I think if Rhadan was THAT powerful. He’d be a later game boss, I personally usually defeat him before Rhanalla 🤷♀️
im convinced that the city Messmer is laying siege to in the trailer is actually Leyndell. the ashes that is covering the city when we first get there in the base game are the remnants of his purge. after the purge Messmer and his army is then either banished or otherwise sent to the shadow lands. its either that, or there was a burning of a previous Erdtree before the one we (the player) burn, because all that ash has to come from something big. also, all the houses in Leyndell has their doors and windows waxed shut as to prevent the enormous amounts of ash from getting in.
Malenia's rot is intrinsic to her power. If anything, the only reason Radahn was winning is because she implemented the handicap upon herself not to use her rot. Her using the rot was definitely not a moral decision, but I don't think it lessens the validity of her power. They both ultimately didn't achieve their respective goals with the battle, but Radahn is a mindless husk and Malenia hasn't lost any of her power. She's actually stronger.
I dont disagree with her potentially holding back but i also wonder if he wasnt actively holding the stars at that moment how much stronger he could have been too.
I thought that since there are so many omen that this was where the crucible was. And Marika betrayed previous elden lord, ripping out the elden ring in it's previous form. Thus creating the erdtree of light and one of shadow. And basically wiping out the crucible and labeling anything associated with it unholy abominations. History is written by the winner, Marika. And doesn't want any stain on her ascension. And all those bodies that seem to be floating up to the shadow tree seem syphoned off from the land of shadows and converting it to the bounty that the erdtree bestowed... until it stopped.
So Marika was a culture vulture who used her son's battle prowess to usurp, and oppress an entire Land while she fled and he held them down. With the Dancing Dragon type thing, it got me thinking... Tanith was a dancer from a far away land. Maybe she came to the Lands Between knowing what Marika had done to her home, and she wanted to create an uprising of Recusant Fingers to take back what Marika stole from the Land of Shadow. Random crazy theory i had What if Miq needs radahn dead so there can be an eclipse, he will some how fuse his spirit into godwyns souless body. His nee body would stretch all over the lands between and he could sprout bewitching branches all over the lands and mass control any and everything. Bringing his version of peace. I believe The Shadow is Messmer himself. I think it’s a play on Baleful Shadows and he himself is the Shadow of the Erdtree since Marika is no longer there or needs protection. He is protecting the Golden Order she or they created.
When hair is braided it looks shorter and more compact and seeing as the bracelets match marikas exactly then i believe it is her. Also if you look at the final cutscene of marika in the erdtree the black robes match which i haven’t seen people mention
Shadow was born out of her creating the golden light. Once you have light you create shadow. So she basically created them both together. Being we killed the Elden beast and Marika we would need a new place to rest since grace is gone we killed it lol. When Marika is Holden up the golden hair it's literally creating her rune arc she's stuck in when we go and fight her in the vanilla game at the end.
The image people keep saying is the GEQ might actually be Marika. The thing she’s holding looks like it’s spiraled, and the guard, or point that comes off near her chest (to me) looks almost exactly like the guards on the Finger Slayer Blade or the Elden Beasts sword. It might be Marika in the middle of a war she started holding her new god slaying weapon she created from a god or demigod defending that castle. I’m probably wrong but that’s my contribution to the list of insane theories lol. I think the Lion Dancers is more of a practice instead of specific people. Good vid! Edit: this rest of this is old speculation. Ignore it. I think you might have missed something at the end of the trailer as well as conflating the Greater Will and the Golden Order. The Golden Order is the divine law and order that Queen Marika established under the Greater Will's direction. Basically, Queen Marika was chosen by the Greater Will to create the Golden Order. As you mentioned, Miquella got fed up with the Golden Order and the Greater Will because they couldn't heal Malenia’s curse. Mohg abducting him probably added to his frustration. Notice how Miquella is seen walking away from the Grace. The promotional material from FromSoft says, "Miquella would abandon Grace in pursuit of something greater." Also, note how the Tarnished is touching Grace, and the trailer says, "But we are not deterred." We always follow the Guidance of Grace, even if Miquella is leaving it behind. That being said, the trailer and the promo material differ in the way they ask the last question. "Will you join us?" vs. "Will you walk with him?" There are probably two endings: one where you align with Miquella and the DLC ends, and another where you fight him, possibly as an optional boss who is way more difficult than his twin sister. Sidenote: that is a titty that you see when Marika is grabbing the strands of gold, imo.
That isn't the Tarnished player touching grace in the trailer lol. That's a new npc, she's one of Miquella's followers. The entire group there are all Miquella's followers and that also ISN'T a new type of grace. The normal graces are still in the Land of Shadows. The person speaking in the trailer is the woman you called the Tarnished, and she is also the woman from the first trailer who was standing in Mohgwyn palace and tells you to touch the withered hand and enter the Land of Shadow, saying she would not be far behind.

This is what I think is going to happen: - The DLC will follow in Beserk's Eclipse story line - There will be an eclipse - That person touching grace is Miquella. - The image of St Trina falling is a lot like Griffith falling into the Abyss - The reason we need to kill Radahn is so that we can see the Eclipse happen - The scene with Queen Marika at the beginning is a cut scene that is being told through Miquella's story rather than us interacting with Queen Marika. - St Trina is a semi-evolved version of Miquella. The fully evolved version will be the boss that is more difficult than Malenia. I could keep going with the bullet points but I am still half asleep as it's only 6am. I'm thinking Maliketh since the wolves meant to be at a god's side are known as shadows. Similar to how Ranni's two fingers created Blaidd to be her shadow.
I loved your videos on the DLC so far but you started losing me on the parts of Malenia VS Radahn & that whole ordeal and how it came about. It might've been that neither Malenia or Radahn were aggressors in their battle, I believe they were both defensive due to the fact that there was a shattering war going on and it pitted all the demi-gods against eachother, therefore a fight would break out, Radahn could've been the aggressor due to seeking out Malenia's great rune. I don't believe Malenia has motive to attack Radahn unwarranted, why in the world would she go and fight Radahn in the first place IF not searching for a lost Miquella that nobody knows the whereabouts of?? I'm pretty sure Malenia has no concerns of involving herself in the shattering war or anything not involving her twin, afterall she dedicated her life & blade to his cause.. Again I have been enjoying your theory content but I'm not sure I am fond of the way you swept Malenia's potential perspective of the battle with Radahn and full-on made it out to be fact that she was the aggressor for no apparent reason. Also since you are valid in having your opinion on who "won" the fight between Malenia and Radahn, I'll just state mine as well. Objectively, it was a stalemate, as pointed out several times and even famously said by Malenia herself that she is undefeated, I don't think Malenia's intent was to win the fight from blossoming, but merely to end it as it clearly was going nowhere given how equally matched her and Radahn are. I also wanna point out that I love Radahn's character, as well as Malenia as I'm typing this in defense of her but when it comes to their fight I just find the whole thing rather tragic and unfortunate, afterall they are half-siblings and the war clearly brought out the worst and more desperate sides in them (Radahn fighting for runes, Malenia fighting for Miquella)

I am starting to think that based on the similarities of transport in the twilight. Princess, and what we see the buildings dissipating into black. Essence towards the glowing tree that the lands between. We know were separated from the shadow lands. And that it was not the other way around. As seemingly originally alluded to

The thing is the godskin. It’s literal. God Skin. That’s why their armor has the faces on it, they flayed “Gods” and that’s what it is. Pretty sure the dragon dance is Chinese, not Japanese. And as far as I know the equivalent of Japan in Elden Ring is actually a place outside of the Lands Between entirely that is mentioned in lore, thus not the obscured place that is the Shadowlands that has been erased from history.
Just thought of something else. What if we are thinking we are following Miquella into another land but we are actually just entering him and fighting all his alter egos. Trina could be the new boss they showed the other day. Messmer is his ashamed side of his mom doing what she did to birth him and his sister to create the shadow. We are entering his body and his memories. I still think Marika had a twin and she was the gloam eyed queen. Twins run in families and her birthing Miquella and Melania would tell us it runs in her family. Maybe her killing or doing something with the gloam eyed queens baby is what she used to create grace.

It shows us in the trailer Messmer just completely destroying it but in the game play trailer everything is still standing. He takes us back to tell the story of what happened. Like DS3 after we touch the egg and the illusion breaks or we go to the end of of time of that place. Not quite sure on that one. We could be seeing a before and after in it. Trina being there and the trailer saying he's giving up his fate just made me think of that scenario and the boss they showed the other day thinking maybe that's her real version.
Not a very interesting discovery but 23:14 the martial arts guy is the one behind the helmet crest guy. Marika being in the first shot doesn't make sense for me. Because the narrator seems like she's talking how the shadows have been formed. We know that Marika formed the shadows as she was just being coronated as queen or at least just before that (when she made Maliketh her shadow). The trailer seem to incite that after that action (first scene in the new trailer) an unseen war happened with Mesmer. Mesmer addressed Marika as "Mother" on the gameplay trailer, so....If Marika was the one shown in the first shot, won't that make Mesmer her first child? With???? Radagon? And we already know that in the Base game Radagon was the 2nd husband of Marika, when they produced Malenia and Miquella.
This is probably a crappy theory but here I go. Correct me if I am wrong (it’s been so long), but at one point, Marika was having doubts about the Golden Order, right? And as a result (or at least, it’s one of the causes), she shattered the Elden Ring and the rune of death was stolen and the Night of Black Knights and the death of Ranni’s body happened. Cause, the Assasins were kind of Marika’s own army, right? Then at some point, Radagon attempted to repair the Elden Ring but failed. What if the land of Shadows was created during the time when Marika was having doubts about the Golden Order? Maybe she created it as a precaution before the Golden Order learned of her doubts, which seemed to them that she “betrayed” the Golden Order. She is still technically a god at the game right? Maybe she used the shattered remains of the Golden Rune to create the land of Shadows. Then when Radagon failed to repair the Elden Ring, him (and by extension, the Greater Will) sent Mesmer to rid the land of Shadows of the non-believers.
The trailer literally just told us the Land of Shadow was created at the beginning. As in, when Marika created the Golden Order, so to was the Land of Shadow created.
Hold up if Miquella abandoned his own grace to get there does that also mean we gotta do the same in a literal sense that might mean a fresh save for the DLC area. Like we might have to make a sacrifice to start the dlc and it will take our power level away for the DLC content and introduce a new one instead of dark soul style of level up and instead being similar to Sekiro just like how Myiazaki said. So in conclusion we can't have our main level stats for that DLC, it won't transfer to the Land of the Shadow if we decide to travel there like how it does transfer for NG+ and that area is probably gonna have its own level system. That's just My theory, idk. So can't probobly stack our main level with that new power level system to be broken in that area.
This was kinda what I was thinking too. We will keep our actual levels and stats so there are no issues with what gear people want to use in the DLC, but the actual values of our damage and defenses will be dropped heavily. I feel like it will be like Dark Souls 2 and our damage and defenses will go back up as we collect a very specific hard to find item, like fragments of Miquella’s great rune or something. I think the sacrifice we will make is legit our body. To enter the lands if Shadow we’ll have to separate the soul from every thing else. I feel like there will be an NPC that will tell us how to get to Miquella and will watch our body while we go there.
We already know how its gonna work. You keep your current progress but the DLC has a special attribute that only works in the lands of shadow,to power yourself up.
I think that the pregnant woman in the trailer was the real god or atleast supposed to be. And in the Beginning we see marika taking the golden strands from what looks like a belly maybe. And i think thats the reason that the native's of shadow realm are opposing marika. And maybe messmer is fighting for marika against the shadow realm native. The pregnant woman was really important to the native's. And it could be that messmer is the child of that pregnant woman because as one of the npc says in the base game [ The unwanted child of queen marika]. And the reason that she reached out to us and other tarnished has to do something with st.trina. maybe miquella is a evil mastermind and trying to set connection with st.trina with our help, we think she is all good and kind but she could have a evil plan under her sleeves. Well, first that Miquella is a He. His counterpart St. Trina could be a she, but Miquella is very much a - very young, eternally - guy. I think Marika is getting strands of gold from a woman's pregnant belly, not a head. I also don't think she's forging a ring with it, as some have suggested - pretty sure that's just not the lore of the Elden Ring. What I think may have happened is she used those strands to weave the drape that hides the shadowlands. I personally think Miquella is there to ascend to Godhood rather than having some sort of moral qualms with anything Marika did. He kept waiting for the Eclipse for some reason in the lore, and perhaps the Shadowlands are a sort of pseudo-Eclipse that he can use. But none of anything either of us said explains why Miquella had to let go of his immortal form to do it. And yes, whether Miquella is actually evil or not seems to be the question. One narrator in the trailer seems to say Yes, the other seems to say No. But I don't think Evil, GRRM style, is the way to describe either Messmer or Miquella. They both seem to have their own set of convictions and do what is necessary.
You say miquella is there to ascend to godhood, then why the massacre of the native's of the shadow realm. I don't think that the huge war occurred because Marika wanted to cast a veil or hide the shadow realm, she did something far worse. In the place where she takes those gold strands there were literally thousands of corpses, it definitely seems they were slaughtered. The lion dance entity is also a native to the shadow realm as we can see in trailer. We tarnished who are guided by the golden grace and becoming queen Marika's consort and Elden Lord. That's a good reason for the lion dance entity to be hostile towards us. What you said about miquella might be true,, I want to know your thoughts on the connection between the pregnant lady and messmer.

@@Shisui-jx7xr i wondered if the pregnant lady wasnt thr gloam eyed queen and the baby was melina who then embodies her mothers abilities and becomes the new gloam eyed queen. Melina says she was born at the erdtree so maybe she survived her mother being cut open. And the bodies we see stacked is what creates the erdtree itself. And the shadow realm is sealed away in the erdtree in a sense.
This assuming that Miquella will be pure good for some reason, beside what messmer did here isn't different than the other genocides/war crimes of the other demigods so are they pure evil as well?

I think people assume she had to set the rot loose but we have no idea what her goals for even going to Calid were save maybe to take Rhadan’s great rune. I’m still curious if Miquella didn’t have some influences over this decision. I think the use of “stalemate” was literally that neither could kill the other or take there great rune. I think in being unable to defeat Rhadan. Milenia might have nuked it simply so he couldn’t intervene in Miquella’s affairs. There’s even the possibility of Miquella having some sort of hold on her to the point of compelling her to use her rot…. I’m just saying. To say she lost is an over statement. I know y’all hate her and love your Goodest big boy (I have room for all) but I don’t think it was as simple as “she got slapped and was desperate.” Also I take her being “dragged back” as probably going unconscious after using the rot. The power probably overwhelmed her body. I don’t think Rhadan exhausted her. I think her desperation came more out of appeasing Miquella and his plans than just “Rhadan clapped her cheeks.” I think if Rhadan was THAT powerful. He’d be a later game boss, I personally usually defeat him before Rhanalla 🤷♀️
im convinced that the city Messmer is laying siege to in the trailer is actually Leyndell.
the ashes that is covering the city when we first get there in the base game are the remnants of his purge.
after the purge Messmer and his army is then either banished or otherwise sent to the shadow lands.
its either that, or there was a burning of a previous Erdtree before the one we (the player) burn, because all that ash has to come from something big.
also, all the houses in Leyndell has their doors and windows waxed shut as to prevent the enormous amounts of ash from getting in.
Malenia's rot is intrinsic to her power. If anything, the only reason Radahn was winning is because she implemented the handicap upon herself not to use her rot. Her using the rot was definitely not a moral decision, but I don't think it lessens the validity of her power. They both ultimately didn't achieve their respective goals with the battle, but Radahn is a mindless husk and Malenia hasn't lost any of her power.

I dont disagree with her potentially holding back but i also wonder if he wasnt actively holding the stars at that moment how much stronger he could have been too.
I thought that since there are so many omen that this was where the crucible was. And Marika betrayed previous elden lord, ripping out the elden ring in it's previous form. Thus creating the erdtree of light and one of shadow. And basically wiping out the crucible and labeling anything associated with it unholy abominations. History is written by the winner, Marika. And doesn't want any stain on her ascension. And all those bodies that seem to be floating up to the shadow tree seem syphoned off from the land of shadows and converting it to the bounty that the erdtree bestowed... until it stopped.

Maybe gold is referring to marika and shadow in Mesmer and they are twins and or siblings and maybe Melina is the daughter of the gloamed queen.
So Marika was a culture vulture who used her son's battle prowess to usurp, and oppress an entire Land while she fled and he held them down.

Tanith was a dancer from a far away land. Maybe she came to the Lands Between knowing what Marika had done to her home, and she wanted to create an uprising of Recusant Fingers to take back what Marika stole from the Land of Shadow.

I believe The Shadow is Messmer himself. I think it’s a play on Baleful Shadows and he himself is the Shadow of the Erdtree since Marika is no longer there or needs protection. He is protecting the Golden Order she or they created.

When hair is braided it looks shorter and more compact and seeing as the bracelets match marikas exactly then i believe it is her. Also if you look at the final cutscene of marika in the erdtree the black robes match which i haven’t seen people mention
Shadow was born out of her creating the golden light. Once you have light you create shadow. So she basically created them both together. Being we killed the Elden beast and Marika we would need a new place to rest since grace is gone we killed it lol. When Marika is Holden up the golden hair it's literally creating her rune arc she's stuck in when we go and fight her in the vanilla game at the end.
The image people keep saying is the GEQ might actually be Marika. The thing she’s holding looks like it’s spiraled, and the guard, or point that comes off near her chest (to me) looks almost exactly like the guards on the Finger Slayer Blade or the Elden Beasts sword. It might be Marika in the middle of a war she started holding her new god slaying weapon she created from a god or demigod defending that castle. I’m probably wrong but that’s my contribution to the list of insane theories lol.
I think the Lion Dancers is more of a practice instead of specific people. The fact it looks like a boss points to it being a somewhat dying practice not many individuals can or want to learn.
I also super agree with those rune things being the new sight of grace. I think when Miquella was giving everything up to enter the land of shadow (and/or probably because of the literal Shattering) his Great Rune shattered and scattered itself all over the lands of shadow and he’s now using them as points of influence.

I think you might have missed something at the end of the trailer as well as conflating the Greater Will and the Golden Order.
The Golden Order is the divine law and order that Queen Marika established under the Greater Will's direction. Basically, Queen Marika was chosen by the Greater Will to create the Golden Order.
As you mentioned, Miquella got fed up with the Golden Order and the Greater Will because they couldn't heal Malenia’s curse. Mohg abducting him probably added to his frustration.
Notice how Miquella is seen walking away from the Grace. The promotional material from FromSoft says, "Miquella would abandon Grace in pursuit of something greater." Also, note how the Tarnished is touching Grace, and the trailer says, "But we are not deterred." We always follow the Guidance of Grace, even if Miquella is leaving it behind.
That being said, the trailer and the promo material differ in the way they ask the last question. "Will you join us?" vs. "Will you walk with him?" There are probably two endings: one where you align with Miquella and the DLC ends, and another where you fight him, possibly as an optional boss who is way more difficult than his twin sister.
Sidenote: that is a titty that you see when Marika is grabbing the strands of gold, imo.
That isn't the Tarnished player touching grace in the trailer lol. That's a new npc, she's one of Miquella's followers. The entire group there are all Miquella's followers and that also ISN'T a new type of grace. The normal graces are still in the Land of Shadows.
The person speaking in the trailer is the woman you called the Tarnished, and she is also the woman from the first trailer who was standing in Mohgwyn palace and tells you to touch the withered hand and enter the Land of Shadow, saying she would not be far behind.

This is what I think is going to happen:
- The DLC will follow in Beserk's Eclipse story line
- There will be an eclipse
- That person touching grace is Miquella.
- The image of St Trina falling is a lot like Griffith falling into the Abyss
- The reason we need to kill Radahn is so that we can see the Eclipse happen
- The scene with Queen Marika at the beginning is a cut scene that is being told through Miquella's story rather than us interacting with Queen Marika.
- St Trina is a semi-evolved version of Miquella. The fully evolved version will be the boss that is more difficult than Malenia.
I could keep going with the bullet points but I am still half asleep as it's only 6am.
Obviously, this is just my prediction and I could be wrong. :)
I have a theory that Hoarah Luex died here for the first time maybe even @1:29 since tarnished are "dead who yet live" and is the reason we don't see him until the end and after the tree is burned.

I loved your videos on the DLC so far but you started losing me on the parts of Malenia VS Radahn & that whole ordeal and how it came about. It might've been that neither Malenia or Radahn were aggressors in their battle, I believe they were both defensive due to the fact that there was a shattering war going on and it pitted all the demi-gods against eachother, therefore a fight would break out, Radahn could've been the aggressor due to seeking out Malenia's great rune. I don't believe Malenia has motive to attack Radahn unwarranted, why in the world would she go and fight Radahn in the first place IF not searching for a lost Miquella that nobody knows the whereabouts of?? I'm pretty sure Malenia has no concerns of involving herself in the shattering war or anything not involving her twin, afterall she dedicated her life & blade to his cause.. Again I have been enjoying your theory content but I'm not sure I am fond of the way you swept Malenia's potential perspective of the battle with Radahn and full-on made it out to be fact that she was the aggressor for no apparent reason.
Also since you are valid in having your opinion on who "won" the fight between Malenia and Radahn, I'll just state mine as well. Objectively, it was a stalemate, as pointed out several times and even famously said by Malenia herself that she is undefeated, I don't think Malenia's intent was to win the fight from blossoming, but merely to end it as it clearly was going nowhere given how equally matched her and Radahn are. I also wanna point out that I love Radahn's character, as well as Malenia as I'm typing this in defense of her but when it comes to their fight I just find the whole thing rather tragic and unfortunate, afterall they are half-siblings and the war clearly brought out the worst and more desperate sides in them (Radahn fighting for runes, Malenia fighting for Miquella)
The scene of the bodies and the golden light with marika in the middle invoke this scene in berserk where Griffith's vision of a castle on the distance is shown to him by one of the god hands As he stumbles on a mountain of bodies to reach it. Most don't notice you can hear the elden beast crashing infront of marika as its ost plays

Essence towards the glowing tree that the lands between. We know were separated from the shadow lands. And that it was not the other way around. As seemingly originally alluded to

The battle was the past. Marika created the world we in now and the shadow realm. That was her taking something from that woman in the painting. Then created the lands between. Between realms. So much religious tied into everything. Mesmer is practically the devil. Samething. His fire to purge is practically hells fire in religion. Miquella is gonna be Jesus. His kindness and sacrifices tells it. This is gonna be a twist on it.

Pretty sure the dragon dance is Chinese, not Japanese. And as far as I know the equivalent of Japan in Elden Ring is actually a place outside of the Lands Between entirely that is mentioned in lore, thus not the obscured place that is the Shadowlands that has been erased from history.
Just thought of something else. What if we are thinking we are following Miquella into another land but we are actually just entering him and fighting all his alter egos. Trina could be the new boss they showed the other day. Messmer is his ashamed side of his mom doing what she did to birth him and his sister to create the shadow. We are entering his body and his memories. I still think Marika had a twin and she was the gloam eyed queen. Twins run in families and her birthing Miquella and Melania would tell us it runs in her family. Maybe her killing or doing something with the gloam eyed queens baby is what she used to create grace.
Miyazaki already confirmed the Shadowlands are an actual, tangible place. They are not a dimension, or a dreamscape, or someone's mind. They are a real place obscured.

It shows us in the trailer Messmer just completely destroying it but in the game play trailer everything is still standing. He takes us back to tell the story of what happened. Like DS3 after we touch the egg and the illusion breaks or we go to the end of of time of that place. Not quite sure on that one. We could be seeing a before and after in it. Trina being there and the trailer saying he's giving up his fate just made me think of that scenario and the boss they showed the other day thinking maybe that's her real version.

Marika being in the first shot doesn't make sense for me. Because the narrator seems like she's talking how the shadows have been formed. We know that Marika formed the shadows as she was just being coronated as queen or at least just before that (when she made Maliketh her shadow). The trailer seem to incite that after that action (first scene in the new trailer) an unseen war happened with Mesmer.
Mesmer addressed Marika as "Mother" on the gameplay trailer, so....If Marika was the one shown in the first shot, won't that make Mesmer her first child? With???? Radagon? And we already know that in the Base game Radagon was the 2nd husband of Marika, when they produced Malenia and Miquella.
This is probably a crappy theory but here I go.
Correct me if I am wrong (it’s been so long), but at one point, Marika was having doubts about the Golden Order, right? And as a result (or at least, it’s one of the causes), she shattered the Elden Ring and the rune of death was stolen and the Night of Black Knights and the death of Ranni’s body happened. Cause, the Assasins were kind of Marika’s own army, right?
Then at some point, Radagon attempted to repair the Elden Ring but failed.
What if the land of Shadows was created during the time when Marika was having doubts about the Golden Order? Maybe she created it as a precaution before the Golden Order learned of her doubts, which seemed to them that she “betrayed” the Golden Order. She is still technically a god at the game right? Maybe she used the shattered remains of the Golden Rune to create the land of Shadows.
Then when Radagon failed to repair the Elden Ring, him (and by extension, the Greater Will) sent Mesmer to rid the land of Shadows of the non-believers.
The trailer literally just told us the Land of Shadow was created at the beginning. As in, when Marika created the Golden Order, so to was the Land of Shadow created.

Hold up if Miquella abandoned his own grace to get there does that also mean we gotta do the same in a literal sense that might mean a fresh save for the DLC area. Like we might have to make a sacrifice to start the dlc and it will take our power level away for the DLC content and introduce a new one instead of dark soul style of level up and instead being similar to Sekiro just like how Myiazaki said. So in conclusion we can't have our main level stats for that DLC, it won't transfer to the Land of the Shadow if we decide to travel there like how it does transfer for NG+ and that area is probably gonna have its own level system. That's just My theory, idk. So can't probobly stack our main level with that new power level system to be broken in that area.
This was kinda what I was thinking too. We will keep our actual levels and stats so there are no issues with what gear people want to use in the DLC, but the actual values of our damage and defenses will be dropped heavily. I feel like it will be like Dark Souls 2 and our damage and defenses will go back up as we collect a very specific hard to find item, like fragments of Miquella’s great rune or something. I think the sacrifice we will make is legit our body. To enter the lands if Shadow we’ll have to separate the soul from every thing else. I feel like there will be an NPC that will tell us how to get to Miquella and will watch our body while we go there.
We already know how its gonna work. You keep your current progress but the DLC has a special attribute that only works in the lands of shadow,to power yourself up.
I think that the pregnant woman in the trailer was the real god or atleast supposed to be. And in the Beginning we see marika taking the golden strands from what looks like a belly maybe. And i think thats the reason that the native's of shadow realm are opposing marika. And maybe messmer is fighting for marika against the shadow realm native.
The pregnant woman was really important to the native's. And it could be that messmer is the child of that pregnant woman because as one of the npc says in the base game [ The unwanted child of queen marika].
Miquella being all kind and charming, maybe she doesn't like what her mother did to the shadow realm and the pregnant woman, and reaching out to us and several npc in the shadow realm to help her and follow her footsteps.
Another theory about miquellla is that her powers allow her to influence or mesmerize people. And the reason that she reached out to us and other tarnished has to do something with st.trina. maybe miquella is a evil mastermind and trying to set connection with st.trina with our help, we think she is all good and kind but she could have a evil plan under her sleeves.
Messmer being confused about her mother maybe may something to do with the pregnant woman shown in the trailer.

Well, first that Miquella is a He. His counterpart St. Trina could be a she, but Miquella is very much a - very young, eternally - guy. I think Marika is getting strands of gold from a woman's pregnant belly, not a head. I also don't think she's forging a ring with it, as some have suggested - pretty sure that's just not the lore of the Elden Ring. What I think may have happened is she used those strands to weave the drape that hides the shadowlands.
I personally think Miquella is there to ascend to Godhood rather than having some sort of moral qualms with anything Marika did. He kept waiting for the Eclipse for some reason in the lore, and perhaps the Shadowlands are a sort of pseudo-Eclipse that he can use. But none of anything either of us said explains why Miquella had to let go of his immortal form to do it.
And yes, whether Miquella is actually evil or not seems to be the question. One narrator in the trailer seems to say Yes, the other seems to say No. But I don't think Evil, GRRM style, is the way to describe either Messmer or Miquella. They both seem to have their own set of convictions and do what is necessary.
You say miquella is there to ascend to godhood, then why the massacre of the native's of the shadow realm. I don't think that the huge war occurred because Marika wanted to cast a veil or hide the shadow realm, she did something far worse.
In the place where she takes those gold strands there were literally thousands of corpses, it definitely seems they were slaughtered.
The lion dance entity is also a native to the shadow realm as we can see in trailer. We tarnished who are guided by the golden grace and becoming queen Marika's consort and Elden Lord. That's a good reason for the lion dance entity to be hostile towards us.

Melina says she was born at the erdtree so maybe she survived her mother being cut open. And the bodies we see stacked is what creates the erdtree itself.
