This is pretty close to my $40 PC. I got a HP pavilion with an i5 7400 for free. Picked up a Rx 480 4gb and $16gb of ram for $50 then sold the stock ram for $10. I was worried about the 300w PSU but haven't had any issues even when stress testing the CPU and GPU at the same time. Time Spy score of 4379 with the 329th fastest RX 480 after an overclock. What's even crazier about that is that it's an OEM HP Rx 480 with a stock TDP of 110 compared to the normal 150W. I raised the power limit to 150w in adrenaline to match normal Rx 480s but I wouldn't go higher bc 6pin+pci-e can only supply 150w.
I have the exact same Hp z230, with the exception of using i7 4771, ram upgraded to 24GB, and using Gtx 1650 gddr6 gpu. This thing is really powerful it can even runs starfield smoothy
My brother did something like this, but he uses his motherboard for graphics. I wanted to try and put a gtx 760 in using the cable extensions but the power button just flashes orange and won't turn on. Edit: The cables I used only have one sata cable each. Would that cause it?
1:56 Businesses usually replace their whole hardware stack every 5 years. As per which cards you can use, the PCIe standard is backwards compatible. You can plug a modern card in an earlier slot, but you're gonna lose performance.

I have a z440($77) with a Xeon 2697 v3($8), nvme to pcie adapter($10), and a 1tb nvme($50) and i ordered a 5700 non xt for $150. Is this a good PC for under $300?
I have a z840 that I got for 150 dollars but it can’t even run apex on low grsphics with more than 60 fps. It has an AMD FIREPRO W5100 graphics card so I need to replace that but I also would like to get rid of this pc to build another one. Any recommendations?
Honestly... I don't know how you missed that these come with a single 6-pin PCIe power connection. The Z210, Z220, Z230 and Z240... they all have one. There was no need to resort to the dual SATA connections and you could easily run a 1080 off this thing without needing to upgrade the power supply. Just a 6-pin to 8-pin adapter would do.
I got the same OEM for free, I slapped a 6600xt, more ram, and the mentioned sata power cable, but the 8pin version and it worked. Whenever the CPU gives out I’m going to buy a new mobo, and cpu, and psu. Keeping the case 😎
I've done a similar build with an i5 4590, and a 1050ti, that thing is pretty good for entry level gaming, and esports titles, it could run fortnite performance mode 100%res scale with 114fps average

But to be far it is a great business strategy, the 13yr old dysfunctional trolls of today are the McDonald's workers of tomorrow and they will need a $300 PC eventually... ahh who am I kidding they will just buy a console.
the 4790 and 4790K are still pretty good, my first build 2 years ago rocked the 4790K with a 1660 Super also these days the 1060 3GB is more of a 720/900p card, pairing with one of those monitors (since they're also cheaper) would go perfect since it'd look better than running at those resolutions on a 1080p monitor, something like a 900p 75Hz monitor would be a real good sweetspot and it'd still be under $150 cause those old 900p75 monitors are dirty cheap, it's sad how badly that GPU aged though, when it came out it was definitelly a PS4 Pro killer, now even the 6GB one can barely keep up with the base PS4 in modern titles funny enough, it still beats the Steam Deck in performance lol, now I think, I wonder how would games run exactly at 800p like the Steam Deck
I run 2 of these Z230's as budget games machines, and I'm perfectly happy with them. One has the standard 400w PSU and a 6gb GTX 1060 in it, and the other has a 650w ATX PSU bodged into it and happily runs a GTX 1080. The only real problems with using a Z230 as a games machine is that HP didn't add BIOS options to do anything interesting, all but the top 16x PCIe 3.0 slot are PCIe 2.0 (so once your GPU's installed, things like PCIe to M.2 adapters or 8 port USB 3.2 cards will be struggling with bandwidth), and there's a few things that don't conform to ATX standards, so certain upgrade paths are tricky. For example, the PSU isn't ATX dimensions, the motherboard plug is an odd 18 pin item rather than the common 24 pin, and the PSU's also pushing out an oddball voltage on one rail for something or other (11vdc IIRC). An ATX PSU CAN fit, but it's not exactly tidy unless you fabricate an adapter plate, and you'll need a special power adapter cable that includes a power regulator in it to get that off voltage. These PC's only really came with i7 4770/4790's or a handful of different Xeon chips from the E3-12xx v3 range. The i7's seem to give slightly better benchmarks, but the difference is minimal, and as the Xeons tend to be a shade cheaper, it's worth not ignoring them as a potential option. They're all basically the same piece of Haswell silicon with different names etched into the lid, so it's not worth getting too hung up on which flavour you find going cheap. Some HP/Dell/Lenovo systems can spit out their dummy if you don't use the exact OEM specification of memory that came in it when new, but these don't seem to be particularly fussy. They take up to 32gb of DDR3, and at least here in the UK, DDR3 seems to have hit that point where the secondhand markets flooded with the stuff, but most of the folks who could use it have already loaded up their PC or are saving the money to go towards a CPU/motherboard/DDR4 upgrade, so for now, getting 4x 8gb sticks isn't a budget shatteringly experience. All said, for the money, they're still an absolutely cracking budget games PC. As the PC's have onboard raid, and I had a handful of 1tb Samsung SSD's kicking about, I chose to set my pair of Z230's up with raid 0 striped arrays for the primary drives. It's not getting anywhere near m.2 speeds, but the setup does give a noticeable drop in how long games take to load.
I bought a HP Z240 one for 110 USD, has E3-1240 V6, Quadro P2000, 16 GB 2666 DDR4, and 512 GB NVMe SSD. I gotta say it's pretty good, I only play Euro Truck and Forza, ETS2 is locked at 60 FPS 1080 high, Forza is at around 100 FPS 1080p low.

Old workstations make some great builds on the cheap. I'm running a 2x Xeon Lenovo P710. Factory 850W PSU and 2 8 Pin PCI-e cables included.
Bro love your vids. Can you do a 250 dollar custom build since at this price range a custom pc can be built
Yeah but that PC is gonna be really trash since they charge way more than even prebuilts
Can you make a 1800€ PC? My friend has that budget and I think I've done a good job at picking the parts (AM5 All white build but Black GPU). I would love to see if I made a mistake somewhere that I could choose something that fits the request and is better. Thanks!
Hello Zach, I got a question for you - how can I FORCE my pc to ALWAYS use max. preformance it could. Im asking, because sometines (i dont know why) my pc decides to use like 30% of gpu, but it heavily impact on my preformance
With all the hp Z200 series office pcs, there has always been a 6pin pcie cable with the 400w psu. Was this one a special case?
my gaming pc is a 13700k | 4070ti | z790. I have an extra 12400f, b760, and ddr5 ram laying around. what gpu should I put with it to make a dedicated streaming rig?
Are there any benefits in using the parts of a same brand to build your pc?
For example, using ASUS monitor(s) with ASUS gpu and ASUS motherboard etc.
Nope no benefits 😅
@@BaconAnimates10 Thanks!
zach! My whole PC started lagging after i updated my Nvidia Graphics Driver. Then I'd also then BSODs of ''Internal video scheduler error'' I disabled my driver from device manager and my pc isnt lagging but my games are. Could you please help?
Cool find!
Would a Rx 580 8gb work better or instead?
Just got a gaming pc from my local marketplace for 120ish usd convert my country currencies... got a i5 2500 and msi gtx 960 and 16gb ddr3... which part should i upgrade?? recommend me ...
Does anybody know what type of motherboard that case uses? I'm thinking of getting this as a starter pc then upgrading/turning it into a sleeper later
I have the exact same Hp z230, with the exception of using i7 4771, ram upgraded to 24GB, and using Gtx 1650 gddr6 gpu. This thing is really powerful it can even runs starfield smoothy
bro's desk is bending so hard lmao 😂😂
My brother did something like this, but he uses his motherboard for graphics. I wanted to try and put a gtx 760 in using the cable extensions but the power button just flashes orange and won't turn on.
Edit: The cables I used only have one sata cable each. Would that cause it?
1:56 Businesses usually replace their whole hardware stack every 5 years. As per which cards you can use, the PCIe standard is backwards compatible. You can plug a modern card in an earlier slot, but you're gonna lose performance.
Ark survival ascended says hold my beer 😂
Hi ZTT!
Whats your opinion about this pc should i upgrade anything before buying it?
CPU: AMD Ryzen™ 5 5500
GPU: GTX 1660 super 6GB
RAM:2 x 8GB DDR4
Storage: 1000GB NVMe SSD
B550M motherboard
500W Power Supply
ATX Mid-Tower Case
Dude maybe if you can try to get some used parts yk like idk about the us but i got 3070ti for half the price it's supposed to be in india as it was used and now I'm also building a pc plus get a 550w power supply as most of these PC build vids I've seen recommend 550w still you've got a great setup idea tbh
Hey Zach I have an intel i5 10400f and a 1660 super but want to upgrade to an rtx 4060 but idk what i should do if there is any other gpu options that are 300 to 400 bucks please tell me and please turn this into a video
I had the 10400f and a 1660ti, sold both and got a Renewed i7 10700f and a 2070super for the same price (Amazon i7 and zotac referb eBay 2070S) night and day difference.
Tripple it and give it back to me 😂
You should try and make a $200 full gaming setup
can you swap out the case with an oem like this?
I have a z440($77) with a Xeon 2697 v3($8), nvme to pcie adapter($10), and a 1tb nvme($50) and i ordered a 5700 non xt for $150. Is this a good PC for under $300?
thats a steal brother
Yeah, a good assembly My men ✌🏻👍🏻🔥🔥
can a amd stock cooler cool the ryzen 5 7500f well and if not what air cooler should i buy?
Budget setup/desktop videos are always way more entertaining than the new powerfull stuff
Finally something at my buget
my bad but can i like chang the case of the pc with like a cool RGB case?
I have an optiplex 7050 mt i7 7700 3.6 ghz. What graphics card do you recommend to play in war zone and modern warfare.
3060
On a custom pc build can you use any case
I got the same OEM for free, I slapped a 6600xt, more ram, and the mentioned sata power cable, but the 8pin version and it worked. Whenever the CPU gives out I’m going to buy a new mobo, and cpu, and psu. Keeping the case 😎
Yo @ZachsTechTurf are these able to be painted white?
I've done a similar build with an i5 4590, and a 1050ti, that thing is pretty good for entry level gaming, and esports titles, it could run fortnite performance mode 100%res scale with 114fps average
My question is can a PSU as old as this support modern systems? IF it’s like 620 or 850 watts or something?
This is insane
Zach just want to thank you for having a tech help area in Discord to let all the 13yr old trolls who can barely write English hang out in there and troll and spam and keeping them out of all the legit Tech Help Discords. You are doing the community a great service! By no means have these trolls talking about penis size and racist comments and what movie star has the best looking starfish and calling each other idiots and worse over pc part picker lists or being shamed by their budget or what's available in their country in the tech help area kept actual people with money and who buy PC's and parts and want to help and learn from joining, participating and growing your community. But to be far it is a great business strategy, the 13yr old dysfunctional trolls of today are the McDonald's workers of tomorrow and they will need a $300 PC eventually... ahh who am I kidding they will just buy a console.
the 4790 and 4790K are still pretty good, my first build 2 years ago rocked the 4790K with a 1660 Super
also these days the 1060 3GB is more of a 720/900p card, pairing with one of those monitors (since they're also cheaper) would go perfect since it'd look better than running at those resolutions on a 1080p monitor, something like a 900p 75Hz monitor would be a real good sweetspot and it'd still be under $150 cause those old 900p75 monitors are dirty cheap, it's sad how badly that GPU aged though, when it came out it was definitelly a PS4 Pro killer, now even the 6GB one can barely keep up with the base PS4 in modern titles
funny enough, it still beats the Steam Deck in performance lol, now I think, I wonder how would games run exactly at 800p like the Steam Deck
Yeah, that's one downside of tecnology: it's age fast that what we would want My men
I run 2 of these Z230's as budget games machines, and I'm perfectly happy with them.
I have a veritonX 2660g with i5-8600 cpu, any upgrade options for it?
So I already have a 500w psu and a gtx1070ti lying around and I want to build a pc, what is the highest end cpu I can get that wont bottle neck my gpu
Wow an RT podcast snippet at 5:44 ! RIP Rooster Teeth
thank you for your service
Can u do a 800$ build?
3:43 Gigachad Zach again
I'm so gonna give this spec to my kid. thank you so much brother😂🎉
I have a i7 4770 and rx 550 4gb (ik those are old but) what should I upgrade the cpu and gpu to? (my budget is 400$)
