Just fixed the e4 error code on my cooker. Mine wasn't the spot the guy showed but it was the contacts that went to the circuit board on the black connector. I cleaned it with some QD contact cleaner and a razor blade to scrape most of the gunk off. Now mine works great again.

I have one of these and have got the error for this .... for the last time!! NOTE: I have probably used this pot a total of 25 times.
When I open up mine it is like BRAND NEW inside, not even a slight discoloration and zero corrosion! It is perfectly clean and yet it still gives me that darn error code about every 6th time I have used it.
Today I cooked one 5 pound bag of frozen chicken breasts and though I didn't get the E4 error code like the very last time I used it... it didn't start building up pressure but said PO30 and it began to count down the clock immediately. So I canceled it and unplugged it, started it over and it worked!
After the time was up, I let it reduce pressure on its own for about 10 minutes then did a quick release. Worked great! So I put another 5 pound bag of frozen breasts in the hot broth, as I have a catering job this evening... canceled the keep warm from batch one, then hit the meat button and adjusted the time back up to 30 minutes, but instead of cycling the dashes until it built up pressure, it did it for a few seconds and then I got the PO along with the 30 and the timer began to count down immediately as though I had a delay start or something, which I have never used on this.
So I took out the pot with the chicken, turned it upside down and banged the bottom without taking the cover off, flipped it back up, put the pot with chicken back in and it began to work normally. About 15 minutes in... it had thawed the chicken, it begins to beep and give the E4 error code. AAAGHHH!!!
So, I took out the pot again, flipped the pot over , took off the cover and tapped on all the little screws and connectors. Flipped it back over and it IS working again, but this is the first time I got this code when I have an "event" that I NEED this food for.--- Totally done with this brand, just ordered me an 8 quart Instant Pot brand!

I loved how you explained this issue, however, I followed your instruction to the "t", but e4 code did not go away.
I noticed that mine was not rusted, but had no grey paint coding material around ground screw. I scuffed well and greased as suggested, but did not work. Any additional suggestion?
    Thanks so much.

Follow-up on this fix, how is your machine working now? I have the same problem but is the fix really as easy as this? Is the pot back to it's old working order?

Had to replace a fuse but other than that its working good! You just need to try and keep water out of the bottom of pot

@Enrique Fidler , is that a direct correlation to a bad seal in the lid or.perhaps installed incorrectly
When I was gifted the PQP 6qt the inner lid with seal was installed upside-down and leaked. Thx

Don't know if you are still answering questions, but my Crux multi-cooker had the same problem. Worked for 3 years then all of a sudden E4. I tried the above fix but still E4. Any other ideas?

There should be a resistor that can go bad as well. Try checking it.

I do not have any rust for any screws, but I went ahead and made some cleaning of the internal screws/ connections. I am still getting the E4 error on the 3Sqaures Rice Cooker. Any clue? or Anyone?

And another thing, I tried to undo the cover and found that the screw head is triangular. So you have a triangular screwdriver? Because none of my screwdrivers will fit.

Get a square bit screw driver that will fit enough to unscrew it
