  • The killer boogie is simply the greatest boogie woogie spectacle period. Originally recorded by Jan Rietman (under the name of The Killer), it is a super fast boogie woogie piano blast. You would be correct in thinking that it is inspired by Jerry Lee Lewis, but it is not him playing. Thanks to a viral RUclips dance craze, most swing, jive and lindy hoppers know the steps to perform the routine that was choreographed in the 1990s by Marcus Koch. However there is not a single cover, tutorial or mention of this tune among the boogie woogie piano community. Come on Boogie Woogie Bluesters, we are letting the side down. So this is my Call to Action, if you play boogie woogie, take a look at my tutorial in this video, learn to play it and play along at the various speeds provided in the video. You don't want to be caught out when a boogie-woogie dancer asks 'do you know the killer boogie?' If you manage to learn in post a video of you playing and state the Beats Per Minute if you know it. Get in touch and if I receive enough i'll feature our community playing the song on mass, just like the dancers do.
As for the speed, at the time of posting this the best I can manage it at 220 BPM and even then i make a few mistakes. I'll keep going but it may take Ben Toury or Henri Herbet to record the first performance at the full 256 BPM.
If this lesson is a bit beyond your level don't forget to check out some of introductions to boogie woogie piano instead. As always, don't forget to like the video and leave a comment. It's nice to know you are there and support what I'm trying to do with Boogie Woogie. Finally if you haven't already, please take the time to subscribe below, it's free and if you hit the bell button at the same time you'll never miss a fantastic boogie woogie boss upload. Cheers, Boogie Woogie Boss

So here we go this is the challenge and it goes out to all Boogie Woogie Piano players, let’s learn to play the Killer Boogie so we can support the vast number of dancers that have now mastered this routine. If you learn using this tutorial, be sure to credit the channel and post a link to a video of you playing. It’s not essential to play it at full speed, but I’m sure some will manage it. I might get there by the end of the year, at least that’s the target. No matter how far you get, you hand independence will improve and you will have fun. Keep boogie-ing and let me know if you enjoyed the video. 🤠

Ok, some more information about the dancers. Markus has done the first part of the choreo, the guy next to him, younger and a lot "wilder" is Rasmus Holmquist who did the second part of the choreo.
I find it fascinating how different their style is even in this wild choreo.
Markus is the "elegant" one who let's mostly his legs do the work and stays still at the upper part of his body while Rasmus is just the crazy one...

woogieman007 Hi there. The first part is the original recording, but the video is me playing notes that I recorded at half speed. Hence what you see isn’t exactly what you hear, but it’s close enough to get started. This why it is a call for action, I want to see people try it, I think it’s possible but I can only play about 3/4 speed at the moment. The original recorded in the 70s was probably multi-tracked. It’s much easier to play the hands separately at speed. I should have thought of that when I made the video lol. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment.

@@boogiewoogieboss5894 well if you can play that at full speed one day it will be as good. I thought about doing the same with Boogie Woogie Stomp if I ever finish learning it in my lifetime. Playing fast pace is hard, Christopher Steinbach and Rob Rio are some of the best at fast boogie.

woogieman007 absolutely agree, boogie woogie stomp would be good to do the same and rob Rio could play this straight off I imagine.

Hey, Boss. It's just a little creepy that you keep looking over my shoulder, so to speak, rather than 'directly at me'. I know your image is fascinating, but it feels like someone is sneaking up behind me when you don't look at the camera instead of the screen.

Hi Craig, good advice, still trying to get the production values right but improving all the time, advice like this helps a lot. Thanks 🤠
