Thank you Jazon for this review. Last week was my 22 year wedding anniversary. Wifey says she wants to get me a nice bottle of whiskey. After dinner at our favorite restaurant, we stopped by a liquor store I know to have allocated bottles. I walked in to get another bottle of KC 12, which I love. I saw the 18 and wifey bought it for me. I've watched all the other KC 18 reviews and have been waiting for yours to open my bottle. Im gonna pop the cork tonight. Keep up the outstanding reviews brotha.
You keep upgrading your videos! The “Did You Know” information was well-presented and useful. Always superb video cuts, etc. But in the end, it’s all about the analysis. Best comparative and descriptive whiskey analysis on RUclips in my opinion. Honest and authentic. Hard to do right, and you have the formula down pat.
I paid $20 for a pour of this on my last trip to Kentucky, I though it was phenomenal. The bottle was about half way down so it was nice and opened up. It’s an immediate buy for me if I run into it around msrp. Cheers
Such a delicious bourbon. I’d have to agree with your notes. For the age, it’s not over oaked at all. Wouldn’t mind it being a little higher proof but is solid at 100 proof. Worth buying hands down no questions asked. I’m glad I got a backup.
I love the Knob Creek line and always have the 9 yr old on hand. I recently acquired the 12 yr old and it is so much bolder and more flavorful than the 9 yr old. I'd love to try the 18 yr old......but I can't justify the price. Great review!
I paid about $250 in ATL for it, and was kinda scared after I bought KC15, but this was wonderful and surprising. I blinded a 12, 15, 18 and a store pick KC120 that was about 13 yo. This one won the nose by a mile, but the store pick carried the flavor. I could pick the 15 out easy, just like sucking on firewood, this one is well balanced.
@The Mash and Drum Jason! I’m so peanut butter and jealous that you have this bottle! Been hunting one down for so long with zero luck. Haven’t even seen it on secondary.
Thanks for the quality content, as always. I was excited to hear your thoughts on this. I got a bottle a few weeks back, but I haven't cracked it yet. Waiting to drink it the day we get to take our baby girl home from the NICU to celebrate. 8 weeks in. Hoping to bring her home soon!
Love the KC12 and the 18 is incredible. I know it got a lot of flack for not being barrel proof however the 100 proof point was the right decision. Very delicious pour & i'm happy to have a backup.
Great review Jason! I completely agree 💯 I love the KC 18 Definitely blows the 15 out the water, no matter what batch LOL Cheers bud and keep rocking 🥃😎
Great review, as always. I was able to grab a bottle last week and I was just as surprised - it isn’t overly oaky! WA prices and tax are crazy but it’s damn good and happy I found one.
Wooooooooooooo. I just picked up this years release of this (KC002) for $175. I didnt get first release so nothing to compare it to. But very excited to taste it.
Hey Jason. While watching the video, I was reminded of something that you might find interesting. I have a friend that liked the 18yo plaque and wanted to use it as part of his bar decoration. He pulled it off the box and was surprised to find that it was covering up a stamp for a 15yo!
Tried the 18 recently it tasted straight-up like a Frazier fur Christmas tree, surprised the shit out of me. Granted I was drinking other good stuff ( weller fp, blantons sftb, RR13) but it really blew me away.
Great review Jason. We got a bottle and do love the flavors. The thinness is our biggest critique as well. For two bills it’s hard to overlook that lack of body and viscosity despite it being very good otherwise.
Would love to see a few videos similar to the bourbon junkies where you do a tier list for several bottles from the same distillery. Beam could be a massive list or could be two separate ones with KC being it's own video even. I'd like to see how your placement would compare because I don't agree with how they've done a few of theirs namely HH and WT.
I like the 15, but I may be biased cause I got it fairly cheap. Glad to hear the 18 isn’t a wood overkill. Not sure if it’s in my price range but guess I’ll cross that road when it’s presented, IF 😆😋🥃
Was lucky to get a bottle, when I wasn’t really that high on kc. Decided I’d open it and boy was I surprised. It’s a stellar pour and blows Elijah Craig 18yr away.
We just visited Kentucky and had a great experience at Lux Row. Bought Blood Oath Pact 8 and Lux Row 12. I really respect your tasting notes and reviews. Would you please consider reviewing the Lux Row 12?
The 25th anniversary bottles were top notch. Got 2 different bottles, from 2 stores, each time for a flat $100. I may just wait and see if the 18 yr old gets dropped in price here. Love me some KC.
Have you done any reviews of Whiskey War from Highbank yet? I see you’re from Columbus and I definitely believe they need some recognition. Stuff is amazing
I love your channel. No one ever talks about balance and everyone loves the sweet stuff. But what about tasting the actual grains, corn, rye, barley..I feel like few appreciate the grains. IMO a good whiskey is balance between grains and the barrel released flavors and not just chasing caramel, toffee, brown sugar etc.(today it's too scientific). but a balance as how it occurred back in the day. Your thoughts?
I dislike the Beam/Knob nuttiness and get a lot of it on the KC12. KC18 however it’s extremely subtle and there’s a lot of fruit/sweetness. I don’t have a KC15 to do a blind but I 100% prefer KC18 over KC12
I`m halfway down a bottle of 12yr & I`m really enjoying it so this latest 18yr release after watching your review is a must find now. Btw, as a `Peaky Blinders` fan keep a lookout for the makers of that series latest BBC offering `SAS Rogue Heroes`, set in WW2 North Africa, just binged all 6 episodes...a must watch!
I have a bottle of the KC 12 and think it’s great. I’ve never tried 15 or 18. What’s peculiar is that the consensus so far seems to be that people really like the 12 and 18 but the 15 doesn’t get as much love. I just don’t understand it because it’s right in the middle of the other two 😂 Maybe it was just unlucky batching/distillate with the 15?
Have the 12 and it is good. Have avoided the 15 because most seem to think it is too oaky. Love the 9 single barrel selections that are well less than $10/year. I would try one bottle of the 18 based on your review. I am certainly more willing to spend $180 for an 18 from a real distillery than some of the special releases of sourced whisky.
Hated the 15 so had already written this off. At 180 it would have to match what i consider the best whiskey ive had (for my palate) and i just have no faith that it would be. I bet its good but im not willing to pay that for it.
Great video- I liked the KC 15 (2nd release) & love the 12 so I was excited about this release. Was able to get for MSRP- love this bottle. I also love the 100 proof point- I don’t always want Cask Strength. One of Best whiskeys I’ve had this year.
I concur 100% with your take. I think maybe one of the reasons it doesn’t taste overoaked is the fact that they proofed it down. The biggest downside is that it is so crushable. I am almost half way down the bottle. Luckily, I have a backup because that first bottle will not last.
Really liked this, but I gotta agree with mike. The 15 is more wow, it's just got more sweetness and that gives it something extra. This though a bit better whisky. Still can't believe you got such a bad 15, cause I've had 3 now and all were perfection and make this seem more spiced and oaked.

I have several Knob Creek store picks ranging from 9-1/2 years to 15 years. They are all good and were all had for about $55.00. My local store usually gets a couple of barrels each year. I have heard that the longer age store picks are a thing of the past. Fortunately, I am well stocked. Having said all this, I could never spend $170.00 on a Knob Creek product. It can’t be 3X as good as the store picks I have.
I was lucky enough to taste KC18 and I thought the flavors were amazing, but then the backend was very underwhelming. Faded really quickly for me. A little more proof would have given it some legs.
I shelled out $300 to get a bottle here in CA, ‘cause those other states cheapie stores dont ship. Taste-wise, i was both over- and underwhelmed. It tastes remarkably fresh, balanced, and easy to drink. While its a solid pour, i expected more tobacco/ leather and cherry notes for a boubon sitting in barrels for 18 years. Not enough of this whiskey oxidized and really aged… there are hints of it, but really all too subdued at this proof-point and age for my expectations. So, while its good bourbon, its pretty ho-hum for an old one. What i mean is that its generally quite similar to a good 9yr SiB Store pick or even the 9yr CS. While this is definitely better than EC18, this is not nearly as interesting as Saz18, some great Dickel 17yr SiB, OB Rhetoric releases 20-24yr or even KC15 imho. I do hope it opens up and changes for the better in a few weeks or with a drop of water, but im not holding my breath.
@@nefarious_saint everyones got their own price point for sure. I respect people that stick to their budgets/ pricepoints, cause its only whiskey, and not something magical put on a f’n altar or in a museum display case.

Yeah I don't know. I think I was definitely over excited about this one. Lol. I agree. In hindsight I was probably a bit more liberal when I judged this one. It's not jerky at all. You'd be surprised what people write sometimes lol
Only a great value in the market as of the past 2 years, sadly.... 2+ years ago you could regularly get store picks that were 15 yrs old, cask strength for under $60.... That value puts this to shame..
Age doesn't help bourbon past a 8 years or so the way it does a Scotch whisky. Bourbon is appropriate for pre-pubescent girls and infants. Any grown man who drinks bourbon except possibly on weekdays before noon - isn't worth knowing.
Yeah if it wasn't for ex bourbon casks a lot of your beloved scotch whisky would have no flavor unless its peared. The only reason isly has to be a aged that long is climate in Scotland is dreary and cold most of the time. I love scotch and can appreciate both spirits.

Yeah if it wasn't for ex bourbon casks a lot of your beloved scotch whisky would have no flavor unless its peared. The only reason isly has to be a aged that long is climate in Scotland is dreary and cold most of the time. I love scotch and can appreciate both spirits.
Not worth 250 any day. Way over priced. 5-7.00 per year. Max!
