- Eastbound UP 6655 (GE 4400CW) hauls a coal train through Rochelle Illinois. The train goes into emergency for some unknown reason (sorry, scanner batteries were run down that day). Once underway again, it meets UP 5551 (also a GE 4400CW-CTE) hauling a Westbound stack-train.
This is the 2nd attempt at a two-camera shoot. I'm learning that with my cheap editing suite, I need to stay away from picture-in-picture effects. This video supplies only A/B cuts, and seems to work better.
I think you description of the coal train is incorrect. It was just a full service of the brakes. Probably do to an automatic brake application caused by an alerter that didn't reset or maybe aother reason.
If a train goes into emergency you'll hear that pop of air that you heard after it stopped but while it's still moving. They probably popped it to reset the brake to get back underway.
Excellent video, superb sound quality and video!
Thanks!!! Yeah, I think that stop has to fit pretty well into the "right frikken now" category.
I was at a campground near the tracks along Cajon Pass and a BNSF train went into emergency in the middle of the night and it scared the crud out of me. The sound was ear piercingly loud.
A real nice two camera catch and edit.
Damn good video! I don't think I've ever seen a train stop so quickly.
Probably because he was going so fast. That's the fastest I've seen UP pound the diamonds. And you notice the train bouncing quite a bit.
Yeah, it was rockin' on its way through there alright.

1) Going hard on the brakes sounded AWESOME
2) Your camera's sound is amazing on my speakers...
that was not in emergency, if it had gone into emergency, the force of the air pressure being "dumped" would have caused that signature air brake "pop" a full service brake application is only 26 PSI, the next notch is emergency, which dumps all the air out (90 PSI for Freight Trains) (110 PSI for Passenger Trains)
Yeah, poor guy up on the signal bridge, huh?!?!?! While the sound on the video is fair (sounds good with headphones), I'll have to admit that it was pretty impressive standing trackside. I had a mix of two different on-camera stereo mics going as well as one channel of a decent mono AKG mixed in there, but I still don't think it's as good as being there!!!
Given how hard the bounce was for that train coming off the diamond, i'm surprised it didn't pull/dislodge an airhose.
Yep, loud indeed. Definitely gets your attention. Say, your small-ish picture by your RUclips account name (the UP at the crossing).... Is that an "HDR" pic? I can't seem to enlarge it any to see, but the clouds look like it may be. I've always wanted to try to create some HDR shots, but don't have the appropriate editing products to pull that off. If it IS an HDR, I'd love to know where I could see a full-sized version of that pic.
It isn't HDR. I just took a screenshot of one of my recent uploaded videos and through a basic photo editing software made it look somewhat like a vivid painting. I used it for my icon because it doesn't look good large but it still looked cool
On the westbound train are there engineers who sit in the 1 engine at the end of the train? Or is it remotely controlled? If its manned that has to be a sweet job to just let the engineer in the front engines handle all the work!

Is the DSR-300 good for railfanning?
Train speeding at a possible speed of 38 mph
Does anyone know what kind of signals those are and who made them?
申し訳ありませんが、私は理解していません。
