Nice! Way better than what I’m getting with the Flair 58 that I bought 3 months ago. The underside of the basket looks like a maze of espresso and bare perforated metal, which I think definitely IS a sign of channeling. I dream of having the shot start at the edges and then filling in nicely towards the centre like that and looking good for most of the shot 😂🤣😂. I’ve tried lots of grind settings on my Niche Zero, several baskets, several different amounts of coffee (eg 13g up to 18g using the flair basket, VST 18 basket and the Rancilio basket that came with my Silvia, and even 8-10 grams using a single basket), and all sorts of tamp pressures from very firm to very light. I’ve also tried everything that Lance Hedrick and James Hoffman suggest, from different pressure/pre-infusion profiles to RDT to WDT to feeding the beans into the Niche one by one. And the extractions come out the bottom looking consistently awful. And tasting that way, ie bitter, muddy, disappointing. Tearing my hair out! But patience is a virtue. I’ll keep at it.
I meant that I cannot make a proper espresso since I also have similar channeling issues with you. I believe it's with the tamp that is not fit with the size of the portafilter. 0.5mm difference
Yes, there are certainly signs of channelling with a couple of spurts and some gaps that take a while to "fill in". I actually wanted to capture some spurts to make the video more interesting :). I would note that I think it is perfectly normal for the first liquid to appear at the edges, even though some think that is a sign of channelling. This was really just a quick and dirty video to try out my new camera phone - and since then I now have a much better phone.
@@michaelporter000 i see. That seems nice goven that i have similar results as you have. What do you think about the tamp that came with the flair? Is it good or should I upgrade?
@@KurtBarcelona I bought mine second-hand, and it came with a nice Flair tamper - solid stainless steel with a nicely textured black plastic handle. I don't know if it was a separate purchase or not, but it is a Flair brand tamper.

@@michaelporter000 does the tamper fit perfectly in the basket or does it leave some space at the sides?
