I think the worst thing about college isn't about attending, or tough homework, essays or tests, or useless classes, or arbitrary class times, or anything else on this list. I think the worst thing about college is high school teachers that oversell its advantages. I know they mean well, but my guidance counselors wouldn't shut the fuck up about it, and now that I've seen it... Good grief. I'm still not sold. Now, college isn't for everyone. Some people like it. Some don't. For those of you going into college soon or returning students, here are three things you should avoid: 1. Wasted time -- spend your time wisely. It's not fun, but hard work pays off with time. 2. Useless classes -- only pick classes that are worth something and add to your credits. 3. Student loan -- Radiohead said it best: you do it to yourself and that's what really hurts. You could potentially pay these off for the rest of your life. Bonus advice: take your time. Skipping out on college won't bring about the Plagues of Egypt. Take as much time as you need before starting college. Lots of people don't go directly after high school.
Don't forget when you try to sell those books back at the end of the year, you get only half the price back of what you actually paid for them....If you're lucky.
It’s not free here though, you can get a student loan to cover all your costs but when you graduate and start to earn over a certain amount, they automatically take it off your pay-check until you’ve paid it back... or you reach an age and they just scrap whatever’s left

A Nugget of History. The 1st 170 years of U. S. history; College wasn't a requirement for a good job. There was apprenticeship, mentoring, trade school training at high school level, and many other learning methods. Also school taught you what was needed by 8th grade.
I graduated in December 2018 and have my first post-grad job. Damn I miss college. Funny thing is that half this list counts towards the most annoying things about being a functioning Adult too.
In the UK, it's usually optional for people mainly to start university either at age of 18 or 19 to get a degree in what course as we call it university, not college.
In the English langauge there's no diference between college and university. Does university/college in the UK mean higher education like it does in the states?
A lot of this didn't apply to me, but I graduated college with a communications degree, minor in marketing (concentration: broadcasting, yeah not smart), and I have two masters in communications and a second one in counseling. I lived at campus one semester and realized it wasn't fun living on campus, contrary to how it seems. I switched to another school and commuted. Both times in graduate school I commuted. Annoying things: people in classes who have no business there, expensive books you use once and the book store won't sell back, majors that are worthless.
@@jonn_mace_80_95_ It really depends. The problem with many communications degrees is the jobs are often low paying. I have switched over to fields like instructional design and that pays much better.

I graduated in 2010 with a BA in Psychology and years later, I'm attempting a post-baccalaureate in computer science through an online program due to the increasing demand for computer knowledge. Even my workplace is going digital a lot more these days.
Worst part, you pay thousands for a degree and get stuck in debt. m Most not all but most do, then it doesn't guarantee you a job all it is is a fancy piece of paper that says you got stuck in debt here.
El Mundo y’all are just generalizing it. I’m in my last year and I’m only looking at $12,000 in debt. I worked through college so I already have that covered once I leave. Go to community college your first two years. WAY better that way
I had trouble balancing college life with home life. My mom had a newborn Baby and it was nothing but constantly helping babysit her! The so-called Father (not my dad) NEVER DID SHIT!!! He didnt even want her. My mom is not a 9-5 person. I put the blame on her for not doing anything. I hated that my mom dropped it on me and my other Older sibling. It made me wished I went to College out of the state.
I highly recommend taking prerec courses at a community college or online-courses before you enter a 4-year school. It gives you time to complete some courses, get a decent grade-point average started and save you some money.
I’m about to enter my junior year of culinary school and let’s be honest. It’s been a wild ride. My freshman year I put on a bit of weight and failed two courses in my first semester. I also ended up draining my parents credit cards. Thankfully, sophomore well a lot smoother. I found a terrific job on campus and passed all my courses.
Most relatable list to date! Ironically I've gone through most of these entries. What's more number 1 I am kinda struggling on so I trying to seek work to be able to pay for my subjects so I had to defer a year. That's a bummer man!
10. Yeah it's much more on your own responsibility. Teachers won't hold your hand through everything, you have to manage your time well to get all your work done. It was a big learning curve for me and I nearly flunked out at first for that reason. 9. Oh yeah I definitely agree with this one, internships should be paid. 8. Yeah the dining halls need to provide healthier options. 7. It's really just about finding your people. If you can do that, the social aspect is fine. 6. Yeah the roommate thing can be a nightmare for some people they should really let people choose whether they want one or not. 5. Sometimes it makes sense for classes to have prerequisites, it depends on the subject though. 4. Yeah that can definitely be difficult to adjust to. 3. Yeah that's another difficult one to deal with. 2. Yeah that's an important one. 1. Knew from the beginning this would be the number 1.
Even though I went to a Community College, it was still stressful and annoying to go to. There were days where I hated it and liked it. I remember always waking up early bc I had some morning classes and that wasn't fun to do. But I've been out of college for 1 year now since I graduated in 2018 which was last year. So I guess I was grateful to have the experience even though I didn't like going!
I went back to community college at 24, transferred to Cal State now currently in my late 20’s. When I’m at my low point, I always ask myself “Why did I decide to do this?!”
I just moved into my dorm today and gotta say that this makes me worry a little about how my college experience will be. However, I won't let fear ruin my time here. Go UAT!!
As someone in college right now, I can easily relate to this. There’s ton of work and I have to study for hours, and I have no friends. I used to have a ton of friends in high school, but most of us have gone are separate ways, unfortunately. As a result of the things I said, I unfortunately get very easily depressed and want school to be over as soon as it starts.
Adding to this: Professors who make you spend $$$ on a freaking book you are going to use only one time. Or worst, a book they themselves have written which is complete BS! Taking classes you don't want or even need just b/c the school wants to charge you more. Dealing with ignorant assholes. Dealing with spoiled classmates who only got into the school b/c they are legacy students.
aka at least 10 good reasons not to go to college. I'm 26 and i decided a long time ago I'm not going. i don't have the funds anyway ill just study online and be and app developer instead of wasting time and money going to college. besides going for want to learn then having to take general education classes about things i have no interest in just sucks anyway.
Online college deserves its own list.... Honestly I had a fantastic freshman year of college until it was cut short by the pandemic and now my sophomore year is online and I’m praying junior and senior year go back to normal
I'd like to iterate on #9 there are a great number of paid internships out there, depending on the major there are more paid internship opportunities than others. I had a paid internship 2 years ago as a Database Engineer over the summer. Helped tremendously with my college fund.
Here are my most stressful times in college [chronological order]: 1: English 99, once an essay is submitted, an automatic 0 takes place until the professor manually grades it. 2: Chemistry 101, the 2 lab exams are so ludicrously detailed that it took me over 4 hours to complete. 3: English 102, the professor heavily criticized every rough draft essay and I had to spend over 4 hours after midnight to fix each of them. 4: Medical Coding [MAP-108], this class has the worst time ever because that takes place on Wednesday nights and my mommy has to go to work in those times, so I just had a friend who can take me home. Also, the the homework is so picky that some of my correct answers are marked wrong. However nowadays, the college war to win the job [Medical Assisting] I want is finally history.
As a college graduate here’s my big tip Get your college email on your phone!!! We used Microsoft Outlook for our emails (my college used that) so that way you can “text your classmates or teacher” also you will know if a class is cancelled before you get to school. This will save you a lot of stress Good luck!!!!!

Who needs college,im not saying college is a waste of time but...u have to pay all the loans and stuff too
A Nugget of History. The 1st 170 years of U. S. history; College wasn't a requirement for a good job. There was apprenticeship, mentoring, trade school training at high school level, and many other learning methods. Also school taught you what was needed by 8th grade.
I think you could slash a good chunk of modern US curriculum and solve so many problems.
I graduated in December 2018 and have my first post-grad job. Damn I miss college. Funny thing is that half this list counts towards the most annoying things about being a functioning Adult too.
Bruh why this pop up on my first day of college
I couldn't sleep and I have leave in 2 hours
Manny Garcia rip I got a 9am but after that going get wasted till my 4:30 class😎
Ha same here only 1 class today and an online this semester and right after gonna buy some cup of noodles
In the UK, it's usually optional for people mainly to start university either at age of 18 or 19 to get a degree in what course as we call it university, not college.
Same in Germany, its much cheaper too
In the English langauge there's no diference between college and university.
Do you think your Communications degree is worthless?
I sure do not think so. You can do a lot with that.
@@jonn_mace_80_95_ It really depends. The problem with many communications degrees is the jobs are often low paying. I have switched over to fields like instructional design and that pays much better.
@@RadioLaPrincess "It really depends. The problem with many communications degrees is the jobs are often low paying."
Depends where you live and if the local job market is hot.
@@jonn_mace_80_95_ True and also what you majored in. For example newspaper today is not a hot field. I live 45 minutes from one of the largest cities so there are more jobs around here.
I have just started college and this video popped up. Just talk about timing. Thanks WatchMojo!
Good luck 😃
Im actually a Grade 12 in the Philippines and on to college next year.....
With this top 10 list im both worried and confident...
Paul _Thinks Don’t be worried. College is wonderful.
You got this you can do it
I graduated in 2010 with a BA in Psychology and years later, I'm attempting a post-baccalaureate in computer science through an online program due to the increasing demand for computer knowledge. Even my workplace is going digital a lot more these days.
"College is a scam for the middle class." - my ex
I’m subbed and notified you rock
And I'm heading for my first year of college in less than 4 days...
The very best of luck, I wish you all the best!🍀
I haven’t gone to college but I already knew money was going to be number 1
Just one issue with this list: It assumes that you're going away for college.
This is so relatable and honestly all college students go through highs and lows. I want to get the hell out of college so bad
Dealing with drama, that's one of them from my time in college
I would choose college over my HS or working years.
There's one clip I think you should have shown for this one:
"Goodbye, student loan payments!"
Thanks, Watchmojo, this really helped me out :). Good timing, ‘cause I start college tomorrow.
I just started college today, my first class starts at 10 a.m. Wish me luck!😂🤓

#5!!! Why are they making us waste so much money on classes that will be completely irrelevant to us in the future!?
Money for them.
If only college was like in the movies
You'd be surprised it's not
And I'm a senior.
Worst part, you pay thousands for a degree and get stuck in debt. m
Most not all but most do, then it doesn't guarantee you a job all it is is a fancy piece of paper that says you got stuck in debt here.
El Mundo y’all are just generalizing it. I’m in my last year and I’m only looking at $12,000 in debt. I worked through college so I already have that covered once I leave. Go to community college your first two years. WAY better that way
@@edward6749 i think it just depends on what you go for i was looking at software dev and it was like 40000$ i think but i did not look that hard
probably better to wipe your ass on it :)
You made a useful list finally for the year 2019.
I start college today thanks for the advice😂
I highly recommend taking prerec courses at a community college or online-courses before you enter a 4-year school. It gives you time to complete some courses, get a decent grade-point average started and save you some money.
I finished college with a video production and editing certificate. Had to take filming, video editing and audio editing classes. It was awesome!!!
I didn't have a freshman 15, I had a freshman -10. That's what stress, depression, and a lot of walking around campus does to you.
Also, since most internships/field experiences are unpaid. You have to have another job on top of classes and field experience to make actual money.
"Hollywood never gets it completely right..." And this surprises you?
Sjw everywhere in College and those people wanteding to sign a form.
#4 I literally live 10 minutes from my university so I'll be seeing my family every single day
I just moved into my dorm today and gotta say that this makes me worry a little about how my college experience will be.
Psh! At my school, we have the "Freshman -15!"
My alma mater also had a "Freshman 15" program of events for freshmen to participate in for each semester.
I lost weight my freshman year lol
Don't forget you have to buy everything other there nothing's free
Very relatable, Watch Mojo at it's best, as always.
First day of school and you are 100% right. The most annoying thing are having to take basics and electives that have nothing to do with major.
That one teacher who keeps asking to buy his book and isn't essential to class.
aka at least 10 good reasons not to go to college. I'm 26 and i decided a long time ago I'm not going. i don't have the funds anyway ill just study online and be and app developer instead of wasting time and money going to college. besides going for want to learn then having to take general education classes about things i have no interest in just sucks anyway.
College is one of the reasons I'm glad I'm not U.S citizen. Incredibly annoying and expensive over there.
Worst thing is fake friends
Online college deserves its own list....
Honestly I had a fantastic freshman year of college until it was cut short by the pandemic and now my sophomore year is online and I’m praying junior and senior year go back to normal
It’s funny how I’m going back to college today and I’m seeing this
Heading towards mine now
I'd like to iterate on #9 there are a great number of paid internships out there, depending on the major there are more paid internship opportunities than others.
I had a paid internship 2 years ago as a Database Engineer over the summer. Helped tremendously with my college fund.
Great video and list thanknyou there are both pros anr cons
Here are my most stressful times in college [chronological order]:
1: English 99, once an essay is submitted, an automatic 0 takes place until the professor manually grades it.
As a quote from Gravity falls, TV LIED TO YOU
After three years in a community college, I was able to transfer to a university. Three long years, but I had a blast.
I always commuted to college so I never had to deal with a roommate 😄

Get your college email on your phone!!! We used Microsoft Outlook for our emails (my college used that) so that way you can “text your classmates or teacher” also you will know if a class is cancelled before you get to school. This will save you a lot of stress
Good luck!!!!!
