Van Damme actually played himself in JCVD, and it was pretty amazing. Agree that his other stuff is garbage, but I think it's more that he picks stereotypical B-movie roles because that's what pays the bills.

I saw the house of wax remake in theater, the entire theater cheered when Paris Hilton's character was killed, some of them even going as far as to say that was the only scene in the movie that they liked 🤣
Paris Hilton was better parodying herself (or a supernatural entity possessing a wax work of herself) in an episode of Supernatural (Jared Padalecki who plays Sam Winchester co starred with Paris in the House of Wax remake). Paris was again better in twisted rock opera "Repo: The Genetic Opera (think like Rocky Horror but WAY more twisted - heck one scene has Paris singing on stage only for her face to fall off).

And she was a good sport about it as well, she promoted the movie by basically saying "Hey guys comes watch House of Wax, I die in it!"

She was actually better than Rosie O'Donnell in that movie. Rosie was atrocious and basically just played herself. It didn't help her that almost everyone else in the movie were great actors.
Van Damme has definitely improved as an actor over the years. His performance in JCVD has been regarded as Oscar worthy.

I would like to see Van Damme in a movie directed by someone like Spielberg or Scorsese.
I saw him in a 2001 movie “Replicant” where he plays a dual role: a serial killer vs. his genetic clone, made to capture him. Jean-Claude Van Damme fights Jean-Claude Van Damme onscreen. It was actually kinda good, I liked it

Yup the only reason he could get away with it when he was younger was because he was just a kid and no one really expects much and can excuse his acting to a degree but then he grew up and suddenly everyone realized that he doesn’t have any actual acting skills

Hulk Hogan once claimed that Darren Aronofsky offered him the lead role in The Wrestler and he turned it down three times. Of course it's another one of the Hulkster's many many lies.

He claimed that because of the time zone difference he gained an extra day. However he failed to see the problem with that. Obviously when he flew back from Japan he would lose that extra day. That one is a classic.

Well, I wouldn't call comedians, models, Kim Kardashian, athletes and directors giving them bit parts in their own movies "actors".
Some of these people shouldn't count. Shaq, Hulk Hogan shouldn't count. Steven Segal and Jaden Smith earned their spots.
Most comedians are trained actors
@mholtebeck well, since they acted and had lead roles in more than one movie, they should definitely count. It doesn't matter if that's not their main profession. Plus, The Rock and even John Cena proved that wrestlers can act. And Shaq did have a couple of good performances in both Blue Chips and Uncle Drew, so athletes, musicians and people of other professions are very capable of good acting.

Jaden Smith was good in “the get down” on Netflix. Seemed like he was actually playing a character he was interested in and not one his parents told him to.

Just wanna say that Jean Claude Van Damme's inclusion on this list doesn't really include his more recent work. His fake autobiographical film, JCVD, had him actually doing some really fantastic work. He had a series recently, Jean Claude Van Johnson, which played off his celebrity, but was very funny and tongue in cheek, and had him doing a fantastic job.
Even suggesting that Kim Kardashian is an actress is like saying the guy that flips burger at McDonald's is a chef.
The world wasn't ready for Tommy Wiseau masterpiece acting.

Except for comedic relief, I don’t see him performing well even if you gave him a script written by Tarantino and be directed by Kubrick.

@Woozlewuzzleable no a lot of the roles she's taken since the end of the twighlight series, has proven she does actually have some range. You probably just haven't seen many them, or just have a bias against her due to her older roles. It's hard not to be harsh on her later works, when you're used to her previous one note roles

I wonder if he could have been a better actor had he not acted in movies alongside his father, which could have prevented his creativity. Imagine having to do an acting scene where you are in a raging fit argument with your actual spouse. It would be very awkward.

It was small but I liked Jamie Kennedy's frantic character in Romeo + Juliet, and he he delivered the Shakespearean lines pretty well, all things considered.

He's a comedian. Bad things happen when they put comedians into movies....not always, I suppose.... But other than Kevin Hart and Eddie Murphy I'm not sure of any comedians that successfully made it as actors. And Kevin Hart is debatable. And Robin Williams was an actor first. I guess it worked out for Jim Carrey 🤷🏾♂️

Shatter is a legitimately good actor. Ever since he was young. I’ve seen a lot of his early TV work, and his performers were consistently above average. He even received an award in the late 50’s for one of his performances on Broadway.

While I agree none of these actors offer Daniel Day Lewis or Meryl Streep levels of performance, they are great at what they do. We need character actors or else movies would be boring. Every actor on this list has at least one decent performance. Madonna won a Golden Globe, Jessica Alba was great in Awake and The Eye, JCVD was an 80 action hero what were you expecting Shakespeare? Even Rob Schneider had Deuce Bigalow a certified classic.
Tarantino was pretty good in Robert Rodriguez's movies though.
I think the main reason for that is because those movies are supposed to be cheesy and unrealistic so it works out for both actor and director
He also good in those _Alias_ episodes.
You guys forgot Seth Rogan, Jennifer Lopez and Gwenyth Palrtow. All of which are the same person in every movie they're in.
The Talented Mr Ripley, Gwyneth is great in that.

How could you have missed the worst actress of two decades. This actress had a role as a child in a horrible Christmas movie called "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians" . That was her best motion picture. She married a billionaire named Riklis who made her his girl toy actress as she did two movies in the 80's and made a comeback of sorts in the 2000s. She was nominated as Worst Actress of the Decade of the 1980s and again in the 2000s--winning the dubious award in the 80s' and coming in second to Madonna in the 2000s. Her name is, (envelope please ) - PIA ZADORA! Pretty much says it all for talent doesn't it.
