Incremental improvement, but definitely welcome. Prices are still pretty crazy for the top two models. I was hoping they would update the NZ7 as well. Maybe later in the year?
Fair point, the biggest we have now is 100” but Hisense with that 110” coming is nuts. Worth the sacrifice of 10” But if I can fit 135” then that difference in size starts to way to become way to much! Guess 1st things is 1st… a home 😅
@@TuanNguyen-dn9mb due to the non glossy look I suppose? I do appreciate the lack of reflections a PJ has. It’s the only guaranteed advantage I can think of, besides viewing angle? Which you’d have to get an OLED to compete with in that regard
@@Youthman Well, only if you don’t have to go up and down stars with a turn at the end. Then there is the weight? Great if it is a straight line or turns with wide halls to where you want it. To my mind though and what is - breathtaking- is how TLC and Hisense are reducing prices to rock bottom for these large format tv’s. Sony, Samsung and LG must be having long-winded-talks with their engineers, manufacturing personnel . . . and accountants?!
Just like I thought… incremental improvements. Nothing to really excite current NZ8/NZ9 or RS clone owners. Sure the contrast and brightness are a little better but in practice the contrast never gets close to those numbers on the screen. Nice they made some improvements but if you’re in the market and the NZ8/NZ9 are still available at discounts that’s the route I would recommend for most.
I have the NZ800, love love love the image quality, but I will need help with the best compatible receiver to pair with it. I have the 6800h denon and have tons of handshake issues and don’t always get an image on the screen. I don’t get it!
This isn’t new this is just a refresh. So you’re telling me after 3 years the two flagships still aren’t light cannons, have the same firmware and software, same processing, still no VRR, still max 120hz refresh rate, same optical block? Not even RGB laser? Super disappointing
There was a special edition nz9 being sold at audio advice live that had 150k:1. This just sounds like that rebadged. My guess is the fan noise would also go up by 20% because it's basically a tuned last gen model.
I’m not sure I’ve never tried to design and manufacturer projector to know what goes into innovation. I would also think if they were to add those features, the same projectors would be considerably even more expensive than they already are.
Projectors are very limited sale item so basically why make something revolutionary when you can sell what currently is available to home cinema owners?
Great Video but still undecided on which to get. I have a 20'x15' room, with projector to be about 16' from the screen. The room is pure black as I have 100% control of my lighting, (no windows and sealed door), so only light will be the overhead lights that I can turn off when watching a movie. Therefore, I am ready to start shopping for equipment and am trying to figure out which projector (JVC) / screen (Screen Innovation Zero Edge AT) combination to get with a screen size between 145-155" and a ratio of 2:35:1. What are your thoughts? Thanks in advance.
Your room is almost identical to mine. My room is 13 foot wide by 19 foot deep and a fully light controlled room. The projector I believe is about 16 1/2 feet. It’s the minimum distance for a 150” diagonal 2.35:1 screen. My previous NZ7 was not bright enough. The NZ800 is bright enough. It’s an awesome projector.
Awesome, I did more research in comparing projectors I'll do with nz800. Been looking for a nz9 (debating if going backwards is worth it) but the few retainers I see on Amazon are sketchy. I think I'll stick with the nz800 and use the savings towards a madVR
How exaclty would the new NZ800 compare to the NZ8 ? I come from a Sony 260es so I expect a big change in a good way. Hard to decide. To buy either one new, there would be a 3k euros difference for me between the 2 models, would it be worth it ?
I wonder what the business reason is to release a new model with only minor incremental improvements. Why not just continue selling the NZ8 and NZ9? Also, nothing new under $10k will leave these as high budget niche choices. A Dolby Vision announcement would've moved the needle forward for sure.
Yeah you think they would have some sort of vision support even if it has a clause on brightness. Just being able to support it natively would be ideal
Im curious how how does contrast on these models compare to like pro Panasonic / Christie / Barco projectors? The native contrast is crazy high for a home projector, but does it meet the same performance that youd get out of the pro format projectors?
A smaller step forward than I was anticipating. this to me still makes the NZ8/9 the better value proposition. Especially when they get discounted to male room for these.
It's too bad JVC didn't have a trade in or rental program. Some nice spec bumps but I'm happy it's not giving me too much FOMO from the NZ7 😊. Next major wishlist item for me is something like the Barco light steering feature for better peak highlights in HDR.
The price is out of my ballpark to be honest, but I'm curious anyway if they are both using PWM for regulating the brightness. I'm pretty flicker sensitive.
I have the NX7 and thought of buying the NZ7. NZ8/NZ800 is just out of range for me. But hoping for a decreased price now also for the NZ7. :) Do you think a image processor like a Lumagen or madvr is still better than the Frame Adapt Generation 2?
NX7 to NZ7 would be a lateral move in performance. Thats why I went with the NZ8 in my setup. I haven’t seen any side by side comparisons between Frame Adapt2, Lumagen and madVR
NZ7 is a step down from NX7 in terms of contrast (40K vs 80K). NZ7 = NX5+laser+120hz. NZ8 = NX7+laser+120hz. JVC marketing pulling a fast one on customers.
Price to me is crazy and one has to be really in a comfortable position to afford a projector at that price since it costs as much as a car...anything above 5k to me is exaggerated and that is why I strongly consider the Epson ls12000 laser projector.
Looks promising. I will upgrade my NZ9 to the new NZ900. Improved uniformity sounds great, I guess that refers to bright corners. 50% increase in native CR is massive, calibrated a lot less I suspect, but nontheless hopefully better than the NZ9. Quality control is the major uncertainty when ordering JVC projectors. I am running a pretty large 192" wide screen so 10% more light at better contrast levels would be welcome!
How does picture quality compare to say a LG 4k GSeries OLED? I'm new to the channel and home theatre and going back and forth about if I go projector or OLED.
The picture quality of these projectors is awesome, but an OLED screen is going to look better for a lot of reasons. The only reason why I would choose a projector over an OLED is for screen size. If you are going with a 100 inch and lower picture stay with an actual TV. That's just my personal opinion anyway.
Not even close. Mid tier TVs beat most projectors on picture quality. These JVCs are comparable to high end LED TVs. Where PJs shine is size, but TVs are closing the gap in that area as well.
One nice thing about being in bankruptcy is everything that is not in the dollar bin is too expensive. We would love to see Sony and Epson bring a new projector to MWAVE in June. It would give them an opportunity to put them side by side against their competition.
Watching on a NZ7.. my home cinema ..very modest one compared to you guys but I only got the nz7 last year with 6 year warranty. Upgraded from epson ls12000b due to epson quality issues. Couldn't be happier and will be holding fire for the 6 years. Instead I'd like to save to add an anamorphic lens/lumagen or mad vr/ or if k scape comes down a bit. I feel for me there is more value there atm for my budget. I finished hanging sound panels last week and just fired up today. I cannot believe the difference !! Fully blacked out velvet covered room😅 I cannot believe how good we have it these days.
@Youthman the nz7 is not that good he should really sale that nz7 and go after one of these fantastic new jvc projectors the nz800 or nz900 would be a world of a difference and if he wants to get rid of that old no good nz7 l would love to take that old projector off your hands lol😂😂😂 can't knock a guy for trying to get a youthman deal
I’m in the exact same boat as you Bill. I purchased a new JVC nz7 last Christmas. Very happy with it as well quite pleased. I’m projecting onto 135 inch acoustically transparent screen and I’m quite happy with the light output and overall performance. Just like you, I’m considering, possibly a madvr kscape, or maybe even a anamorphic lens. But not sure which way to go. But I have to save up a whole bunch of money first.
sony is doing some weird pricing, their new bravia 9 dropped from 32k to 24.7k while the one it replaces (7000es) remains at 28k 😂. meanwhile, i went to best buy yesterday to purchase a jvc z9 for the clearance price of 20.8k, but the salesman said he could give me the z900 for 22.5k (1.7k more) so i went with it. only problem is waiting a month for the z900 vs 4days for the z9. what's funny (and probably crazy) is i have 3 projectors with the original bulbs: 2007 panasonic ae1000u w/1500hrs 2012 panasonic ae7000u w/189hrs 2014 jvc dla x700r w/240hrs i know i don't watch enough movies to justify buying a 4th projector, it makes zero sense, but my conscience simply wouldn't allow me to pass up such a deal on a 4k 8k e-shift projector. but this the last one.... i promise 😂
I knew It!! I learned the hard way back in 2017 that a price reduction is a very serious clue that new projectors are on the way, although I thought that the blue essence laser light source would change as well. Oh well . . . Question: when will JVC announce upgrades to its lower priced models? Hoping for a laser light source to replace its - bulb based projectors?!
@@Youthman BTW: Just kidding about your “so called messiness”. Actually, after the family is finished with our media room, I’m the one who gets the joy of “cleaning up”. @@Youthman my JVC X790R has a 130,000:1 contrast ratio but it’s still 4k eshift. The NX and NZ lines were a step back in CR, though still a much improved image onscreen.
Just remember those are theoretical maximums. No one is getting close to those numbers in use. I think most measurements from NZ8/NZ9 users were in the 20k-30k:1 range and those were claiming 80k:1 and 100k:1 respectively.
@@RyanLoper9 If not JVC by September 2024 CEDIA for a budget “laser” option, I am going to take another look at the Sony x5000. Hopefully, it gets a refresh too, especially if its intermittently noisy cooling fan issue, that came up on some of its first-gen projectors - finally gets fixed! Let’s hope. I have been waiting to see if JVC, Sony, Epson get all the first-gen bugs out of their projectors before buying. Hopefully, my choice will become blatantly apparent in the fall?!
It’s already been 3 years?!? My goodness time is going to fast :/ My dad has a short throw atm (LS500) He’s retiring in 3 years & will upgrade so perhaps I can help him get the NZ800 at a clearance price at that time :D (Plus seeing the JVC will help me decide if I’d want a TV or PJ in the future for myself)
If the motion isn't best in class yet, I'm out. This looks like the epitome of 'diminishing returns'. I'll stick with my NZ7 for at least another generation.
Unfortunately, they both still employ that cinema filter that pushes color to 99% P3 color gamut at the cost of a 25% brightness reduction (1600 ANSI for the NZ800 and 1700 ANSI for the NZ900). At the same cost of the NZ800, I think I'd prefer to get the Epson LS12000 (1900 ANSI lumens calibrated) with a MadVR Envy Pro. I know the glass is probably higher quality in the JVCs but Projector Central reviewed the entire image to be sharp. I also know you can't game through the MadVR due to the latency loss. So, that's also a con. There's so many variables to consider. Heck, I bet if we gave a couple years, we'll have 115" to 120" options for the miniLED tvs coming out now that are close to affordable. But you could say that about any piece of tech.... you'll be waiting forever, haha Still, the NZ800 and 900 look to be VERY high quality projectors that would never be a bad choice.
You realize that 20,000 hours is the equivalent of watching it eight hours a day, 365 days a year, for 26 years. How much more do you want out of a projector? 🤣🤣🤣
@@Youthman If I paid 15,000 grand I want to last for ever 🤣. Thanks for the review I never miss any of your content . For a while I stick with my 4K Laser projector Dangbei Mars Pro
@@Youthman G'day Youthman love your work mate 👍 But I think your math is a little off. 8 hours a day for 365 days a year over 26 years is actually 75,920 hours. I agree with the guy above. 20,000 hours is definitely not long enough to expect to get out of a projector at this price point. Especially if you consider that's at half brightness. A lot of people like to run them much brighter, (or full brightness) which means you'll probably have to halve that to a 10,000 hour life span for many people. That's the equivalent in replacing a lamp in a bulb projector twice before dumping it. Great projectors these are... but with the ultimate in built in obsolescence as well.
The nz900 looks a nice upgrade. The Nz800 not so much and Nz700 non existent. Tbh I'm not really surprised. Projectors really only make sense for most people at150 inch and above and you really need something with this lumens output for that. Shame for me because I'm in a minority with a 120 inch motorized screen and can't do either a massive screen or 100 inch TV..
If you’re not going over 100 inches, the better option would be LGs 97” OLED for 20K. The OLED is going to give you a superior viewing experience for 6k less.
@@Youthman True, and only if you’re springing for the 97” OLED. Take a look at Majestech’s review on those cheaper TCL 97”ers. They even have poor on axis viewing angles which is weird.
Not trying ti be negative, but this seems like a money grab for jvc. Very minor upgrades it seems. I suppose if you could afford the previous model than an upgrade might not hurt that much but i would be kind of pissed if i owned an nz8 or an nz9 as now you do not have the latest and greatest but the upgrade doesn't seem worth it. Fine for new projector owners though. Cant hate too much on companies providing new products so good on them for that.
But that’s with any technology. Every year, TV manufacturers, automobile, manufacturers, AVR’s etc come out with new products. It’s just the nature of technology. You either learn to be content with what you have until a significant improvement and want to make the upgrade, or you continue to chase the latest greatest.

There’s nothing modest at all about an NZ7. It’s a fantastic projector!
I was just about to say 🤣🤣🤣
I’m in the exact same boat as you Bill. I purchased a new JVC nz7 last Christmas. Very happy with it as well quite pleased. I’m projecting onto 135 inch acoustically transparent screen and I’m quite happy with the light output and overall performance. Just like you, I’m considering, possibly a madvr kscape, or maybe even a anamorphic lens. But not sure which way to go. But I have to save up a whole bunch of money first.
The NZ7 on a 135” screen will look fantastic! My NX7 struggled with my 150”. The NZ8 is much brighter and works out better for my setup.
sony is doing some weird pricing, their new bravia 9 dropped from 32k to 24.7k while the one it replaces (7000es) remains at 28k 😂. meanwhile, i went to best buy yesterday to purchase a jvc z9 for the clearance price of 20.8k, but the salesman said he could give me the z900 for 22.5k (1.7k more) so i went with it. only problem is waiting a month for the z900 vs 4days for the z9. what's funny (and probably crazy) is i have 3 projectors with the original bulbs:
2007 panasonic ae1000u w/1500hrs
2012 panasonic ae7000u w/189hrs
2014 jvc dla x700r w/240hrs
i know i don't watch enough movies to justify buying a 4th projector, it makes zero sense, but my conscience simply wouldn't allow me to pass up such a deal on a 4k 8k e-shift projector. but this the last one.... i promise 😂
All brands keep new models “close to the chest”. No way to know what they are working on.
@@Youthman Like your announcement, just a matter of time. Just have to be patient! Waited this long, my guess it won’t be too much longer . . .
@@Youthman BTW: Just kidding about your “so called messiness”. Actually, after the family is finished with our media room, I’m the one who gets the joy of “cleaning up”. With three young grandchildren: Toys everywhere, spilled drinks, popcorn and chip crumbs, carpet stains etc. Sometimes, it can take an hour . . . sometimes have to even bring out the fabric shampoo machine. Yup, being a grandad can be hard work, but happily so seeing how much FUN everyone has in this room!
@marvinabugov4579 that’s exactly why we built it!
@@Youthman . . . and from my better-half . . . . and my daughter. . . it is typically that I get a “pat-on-the-back”, “awe dad/poor you”, AND keep-up-the-good-work!” Although lately, I have been taking room use, “before” and “after” pictures - and then suggesting they leave it as they found it? Sometimes - this strategy works! Lately, I have only had to spend 1/2 an hour in clean-up! WOW! 🥳👏🙃
Man that NZ900 contrast ratio is crazy good🔥❤🔥❤
I wonder what the contrast ratio were of projectors from 10 years ago 🤣
It’s basically the NZ9 special edition.
A more reasonably priced model would’ve been nice
Same could be said for cars, houses, college tuition and food. 🤷♂️
The NP5 is only 2yrs old and it’s affordable.
@@YouthmanI should have been more specific. I was hoping for a more affordable laser option from JVC.
My goodness time is going to fast :/
My dad has a short throw atm (LS500)
He’s retiring in 3 years & will upgrade so perhaps I can help him get the NZ800 at a clearance price at that time :D
(Plus seeing the JVC will help me decide if I’d want a TV or PJ in the future for myself)
Can only dream of owning either
If the motion isn't best in class yet, I'm out. This looks like the epitome of 'diminishing returns'. I'll stick with my NZ7 for at least another generation.
Was hoping for more lumens. I’d like to see a JVC offering with 3500 or even 4000 lumens!
It seems they only go up a few hundred lumens with each new model. So we might be waiting awhile.
That kind of jump is tough especially trying to keep the contrast and black levels the same if not better
But you could say that about any piece of tech.... you'll be waiting forever, haha
Still, the NZ800 and 900 look to be VERY high quality projectors that would never be a bad choice.
For that price I prefer to buy a new 4k TV 120 inches , for just 20,000 hours light source is to way overprice
You realize that 20,000 hours is the equivalent of watching it eight hours a day, 365 days a year, for 26 years. How much more do you want out of a projector? 🤣🤣🤣
I’ll take my 150” over a 120” TV any day of the week.
@@Youthman If I paid 15,000 grand I want to last for ever 🤣. Thanks for the review I never miss any of your content . For a while I stick with my 4K Laser projector Dangbei Mars Pro
I wish. You car and home probably cost over $15,000 and they certainly do not last forever.
Just 10% increase in brightness is very low and for the price is very low form.
If you’re not going over 100 inches, the better option would be LGs 97” OLED for 20K. The OLED is going to give you a superior viewing experience for 6k less.
Absolutely no reason to go projection for 100”.
@@Youthman True, and only if you’re springing for the 97” OLED. Take a look at Majestech’s review on those cheaper TCL 97”ers. They even have poor on axis viewing angles which is weird.
Unless they add Dolby Vision, the upgrade is not worth it
I’ve never had Dolby Vision on a projector and have never felt I needed it.
@@Youthman well, Dolby vision is quite popular, I think there’s a reason almost all new movies have Dolby vision.
Jesus the price. It’s a dream.
😳😳 $16K and $26K?! too rich for my blood!
Let's go❤❤❤🔥🔥🔥
16 and 26k for refreshed models?😂
Definitely not cheap.

Stopped watching after hearing the nz800 price, haha

Agreed with others. Incremental update. Would have liked to see longer operating hours and lower fan noise
