I am actually blown away you felt the street triple felt faster. You didn't even give this bike a chance with the lack of throttle and I am pretty sure it's in raid mode. I do love the street triple but it makes like 2/3's the torque of the motard and maybe a couple more peak at almost 3k extra rpm. Both bikes are probably within a few lbs of each other, the ducati being almost 200 cc's more at the same weight is an unreal advantage. The gearing on the ducati is better for racing. Taking the rider factor out, I don't think there is really a scenario where the triple would be better, other than preference and price.
Two buddies of mine have the 950 RVE and the 950 SP and I've raced them with my MT09. I win most of the time because I can rev higher, but it is a really close race! Those bikes are quick!
Yeah since the MT-09 is less heavy and has a bit more horsepower and higher rev range, you would think It would beat the Hypermotard easy but they are close. The Hypermotard feels better in the corners though, the MT-09 still does not have that great suspension except for the SP model. I hope Yamaha will put the MT-09 engine in a fully faired sports bike like the R7 but with a semi aggressive riding position.
The hyper is all about torque, i rode one back in 2019 after i did a test ride on a 2019 zx10r and honestly on those twisty roads in southern germany the hyper felt so much faster because of its torque down low i was seriously surprised by it
In my opinion the hyper only feels fast when you ride it like a hooligan. Casually gradually increase throttle, try and gently shift, you’re missing the point. Go from 0-100% throttle in an instant (when you’re in a high enough gear to not just flip the bike by doing so), slam the shifter around, rip around corners, pull wheelies, the point is to have fun and ride hard, not be “fast” in my opinion. I mean look at the true super motos. They’re bested in a race of ANY kind by anything made specifically for that. Beaten on dirt by dirt bikes, beaten on the track by sport bikes, beaten on the street by naked bikes and street fighters, but people still have them because they’re super easy to have fun on. Do some wheelies, hop some curbs, be a menace to society. Ducati hypermotard is just the epitome of that. Which, being the epitome comes with the cost to make it so good, and you lose the lack of care that you have with the cheap super motos where “eh if I wreck some new plastics are only $80,” but no one ever claimed Ducati’s are cheap
You probably did not ride in Sport mode. I owned several Panigale’s, including the R’s, and I wouldn’t use slow to describe it. I also currently own a RVE 950, number 11/100...🤘🏻
@@23jakar They are numbered only if you are in NA, where only 100 of them was/will be imported. I would guess it would be around the tank cap. But idk.
@Christian Hansen He is riding a Hypermotard SP. You talk like that's an option. The bike will wheelie. You don't have to do stuntman-pro-12-o'clock-stuff but if the wheel doesn't lift, you didn't really ride the thing.
This video is so perfectly timed. Got mine yesterday and absolutely love it! And by the way, i don´t think they are numbered. There were only 100 delivered to the US i think. But still this bike is awesome. Keep up the good work.
Dude, you shift at like 30% of rpm range most of the time, and when you rushed it last part of the video, still using 60-70% max. And then consider it slow somehow) maybe you've should give it more acceleration and check up wheelie control) Nevertheless, thanks for the vid, first cenematic shots are awesome
Nice video, I love the Ducati hypermotard. After riding my Ducati 900ss I noticed that Vtwinn engines like the hypermotard’s in general always feel a bit slower then inline 3 or 4 engines even if they have the same engine size but they have lots of torque which make them really fun on back roads.
Congratulations; out of all of the racers, writers and bike testers, such as Chris Northover, of Bike Mag, the crew of 44Teeth, Yammie Noob, Platix88 (LOTS of riding in the German & Italian Alps) and quite a few other reviews from Spain, Italy, Germany France and the Netherlands tested the bike in a Ducati event in Gran Canaria - both on track and on mountain roads; you're the only one who claims that the Hypermotard has no grunt/power. Hyper 950, 950Sp and RVE all use the same motor that Ducati tuned for more torque in the lower revs. Northover has even changed the rubber and taken it off-road with positive feedback.
I love the Hypermotard. I have the 2020 SP 950 as well the 2020 S1000RR. Love them both, hardest part of my day is figuring out which one I want to ride. 😂
I have a base model with quick shifter fitted. Put it in sport, settings wheelie control off and tc level1. Then gun it along some roads with corners not bends. You need to ride the gears, keep the box buzzing with changes. Then you will appreciate the power.
Traction control and anti-wheelie really cut down the power imo. Mine in sportmode is really quick! And the wheel just comes up all the time. It’s really really torguey. I owned a Speed Triple RS before the HM and to me the HM is way more fun.
You are the 1st reviewer I've seen whom mentions how far pitched forward it feels. Im 6'3/215lbs and I didn't like it when I was shopping for a sumo this past June. I went with the Dorsoduro instead. I went crazy putting better parts on it, including a full Arrow system, misc. aluminum parts and a remap. Imo it looks way better and after playing with the gearing and the weight loss she rips.
I own the 950SP with full termi , can confirm it is snappy and quick. also looks/sounds like he isn't giving it more than 2/3's throttle. gotta ride it aggressive Moto!
I've got mine coming in a few months. Its epic. The SC pipe is a hectic drone. They well made tho. Termi is so expensive but quieter. Perhaps an SC pipe with a DB killer would be perfect. The Ducati sound is so unique and addictive. Don't really want to set car alarms off. Pipe and tail tidy is a must
pro tip, it's a 10k rpm redline, so don't shift at 4-5k rpm and call it slow, that's on you, ig you knew how to ride it, your wheel wouldnt be on the ground most of the time
I really hope you pick up the new triumph trident. I think it will be a fantastic project bike for you, and since you loved the street triple I'm sure it will be the perfect replacement for your mt07. Anyway, I love your videos man, been following you since the r1 2009 era. Keep up the amazing content!
I own the 939SP, the previous generation of the Ducati Hypermotard. It's not a horsepower bike. To buy one of these then work on extracting every last HP is senseless. What it does do very well is twisties and getting around city/urban/sub-urban streets. In the California canyons it's right up there with the highest of horsepower superbikes because HP doesn't matter when the road isn't straight. In the places you rode the Hyper you tested, I think you did yourself more of an injustice than you did the bike. In the proper setting, I think your perspective would change.
I have a 2014 hyper and I love it I absolutely agree that the bike feels short on the front, not being able to see any fender takes some getting used to It's definitely odd coming from any sport bike to this
You have be fully of throttle for the downshifter to properly work. Read the manual or have an instruction before you get on a bike for the first time. And am also pretty sure you voided the warranty if the owner didn't do it already himself.
That’s not a hyper if the front wheel didn’t get off the ground. I don’t think you rode it in the top mode either which also explains sluggish response.
This bike visually is my absolute dream bike.. was thinking bout the street triple rs but man. There's something to the hueprmotard. It's absolutely gorgeous. But since it's my first bike maybe it's a bit pricey? Or too much?
If u guys wanna watch someone who knows how to ride one of these and use it’s actual potential go watch killacams review. And next time ride the more supped up model before assuming lol there’s a reason these are cheaper
Ya, something has to be wrong. I have a Super Duke, Pikes Peak and a Desert X. The Hyper feels faster than all of them aside from the Super Duke which is 180HP. When the Hyper is set in sport and rider aids turned off that wheel would have been coming up through 3rd.
week ago had Speed Triple in 2 hour test ride, I don´t really get your opinion. Triple was like piece of heavy iron, slow, vibrant, lazy in direction changes, everything so much worst in comparison with Hypermotard
