Modern Amp modeler......with the interface of an Atari 800.
Never thought someone would beat Kemper and Fractal but here we are
What else would you expect from the creators of the legendary zoom 707 pedal, the screen graphics looks like somebody used Microsoft paint off Windows 95 and was limited to two colours, having said that it's about the same graphics on my line6 pod500x screen
It's one of the best-sounding processors for the money I have experienced in last year. You just gave to set it up well according to your
gear but It's pretty simple. In PA systems the device can provide sound as same as more expensive amps or modelers thank to multi-layer technology - really useful! But It's enough to do little or do something stupid and you couldn't use the ZOOM G2x4 to full potential or simply its a messy shit
On 2023 😂😂😂
On 2033 don t Need a stupid mini color display, with zoomg24 you use a big beatiful tab or smartphone It is much Better and big and not in the ground.
"we'll grow up together"
should be zoom's motto at this point.
While the interface is very 1980's, the target buyer of this pedal probably has never used a pedal with a modern interface. Oddly, the presets are much better than those of much more expensive pedals, which often suck big time. Lee never seems to be able to hide his preference for higher end equipment - every time he reviews an affordable pedal, he hedges his opinions and tempers them with comments about "for the money". Digital John does a better job of just reviewing the device objectively, and his playing is always wonderful.
Yeah lee has (literally) too much stock in the family business and has a very hard time not being a devils advocate for literally everything.
Love the dude, but he cannot be objective as often as he ought.

@@danrypl7533this comment is over half a year old. Does the G2 four hold up?
John plays so well. Sounds great.
I’ve always enjoyed my Zoom. It serves my needs and a great cheap way for a beginner to explore guitar sounds.
This sounds so much better than my old Line 6 Pod HD, it's unbelievable.
Nice to see Zoom get some recognition. My first pedal was a Zoom 606. Before I got my Helix I had a Zoom G5 which has a real tube you can use for boost. They make some great affordable pedals.
my first processor was an original boss ME-5 , wow how old am i ?
I still use my trusty ZOOM G2s: great echos & delays...+ great parametric EQs...and now older I switched from a Clean setting with EQ to a Fender Clean setting: a bit thicker tone for jazzy stuff ( and no need to search for another pedal!)
That Sire s-type sounds bloody great. If I was in the market for that kind of guitar, I'd be all over that like a cheap suit. Sounds really nice.
Just bought one fór myself! 🎉
@@W00DYST0CK what do they call that finish?
I almost bought one, but i went for a cort g290 fat ii instead
Zoom multi-effects are a great introduction to effects for new guitarists. You get chance to try out and mess with hundreds of effects and can then buy the pedals for the ones you like!
They did exactly what I always do with multi effects pedals, turn knobs and never actually play. Lol
I bought a second hand Zoom G7.1ut about 15 years ago and haven't improved my actual guitar playing since...
My buddies Katana literally just blew up yesterday during practice. I think I’m gonna suggest a multi effects and power amp like I’m running for simplicity. Good to know there’s a lot of good options at this price point right now.
The first multi effects pedal I had back in the mid 90’s was a zoom gfx707 .. I actually still have it somewhere
Lee just pulled the plug on the beginnings of an absolutely epic solo 😭
I wish I could've heard John play more on the looper 😢
I agree
100% wish Lee would’ve let him keep ripping. Damn he sounds good 👍
@@derekwoods8199 I know what you mean, he laid down a sick groove, and was ready to let loose, but was stopped at the start
Does Digital John have any music we can check out? His playing is pretty tasty.
John is the new star of Andertons....Thanks John!
Can you do a video on the bass version of this pedal (Zoom B2 Four)?
Do you have to download the app to actually use the zoom g2x or can you just buy the machine, hook up some earphones to it... and start playing without the app?
If the G2 (without the expression pedal) had a jack for an external expression pedal and an FX loop, I could see this thing being an HX Stomp killer for people on a budget.
5:27 you can operate them with your big toe, it being a pedal (from Latin, pes/pedis= foot)
I'm not gonna lie...that GOAT tone, was pretty much spot on. This is #200 well spent.
Can you not put the rhythm after the looper in the chain? Then you could leave the looper running.
Digital John (intro)😂 , the best guys !! The best channel andertons music
For a slab the looper was really good. the boss me80 looper function is a pain in the butt (great for everything else though). btw, Donner do a circle looper pedal that can loop up to 4 mins or so per loop with drums! You can loop a whole track on it.
The Lekato loopers are one of the best budget loopers I've tried. I love its "synch" mode, which starts recording the loop when you first strum, rather than when you hit the pedal (brilliant for people new to looper pedals), 6 minute recording on 3 channels so 18 minutes in total) with unlimited overdubs. It has an undo/redo option when recording overdubs, a great LCD counter to see where you are in your recording, a USB port to import/export music to PC and a tuner.
I've tried a few Donner pedals and they were really good. I like the option of having a drum looper on the one you mentioned (which the Lekato doesn't have, and my Zoom pedal only has a 30 second looper). The choice for budget pedals these days are brilliant. Donner, Sonicake, Behringer, Amusik, Rowan, Zoom have some amazing-sounding pedals (regardless of the price).
Those kind of pedals stopped me from being a gear snob. Might be a controversial opinion but I think there's a lot of confirmation bias when people know a pedal is expensive. People think expensive equals better and a lot of the time in the guitar community it's nothing more than price acting as a placebo.
I've been let down a few times too, though, but that was only once or twice with cheaper pedals, but I've been let down by expensive pedals as well.
Does this still have a lag/moment of silence when switching from preset to preset?
For people that have the Zoom MS50 and MS70 this interface is very familiar.
Two weeks ago I bought a G3xn brand new for £147. It’s my easy go to live rig. Don’t see what this does that is any different. Same tech re packaged for more money ??
79 effects and you can choose any 6. I've just entered 79C6 (79 choose 6) in my Classwiz calculator and it came up with 277,962,685. Multiply that by 22 Amp/Cabinet models and you've got 6,115,179,070 settings, and that's before you even start tweaking the effects. Tweaking the effects would take you into trillions of options. I followed Dave Simpson's example. I found a second-hand Zoom G2.1u for 65 euros. Dave swears by it and says he can get any sound he wants from it. If it's good enough for Dave, it's good enough for me.
Also...can you down load this app to a desktop computer?
If it gets people to pick up the guitar then it's got to be good. I was pleased to hear that a professional musician like Pete thought it had good points.
Is there an exciter pedals?
so i haven't played in 15 years. my son is getting into playing and I'm trying to get him a multi effect pedal but he wants a whammy pedal for some reason and I'm not buying him just a whammy pedal but if it comes with a decent multi effect pedal like this then that'd be perfect. does anybody know if this expression(?) pedal can be used as a whammy pedal?
Does this Zoom works on other Zoom mfx like the G6?
Could you not put the drums after the looper? Would have made more sense to me, but hey.
It is a good upgrade from g3xn?
I still use the G3xn. Perfect for me as a hobby player.
Would be nice to hear this stuff through a regular amp vs a PA connected to a PC etc, as I'd guess 90 % of us watching are all usuing basic guitar amps at home, I could be wrong but I'd think most would have a dedicated tube amp or SS amp 👍🏼
Let the man play Captain!
Bloody hell
He’s gotten worse and worse about interrupting. Especially with Pete. I get where he’s coming from. They do a ton of of videos and he wants to keep things moving. But Pete literally can’t finish a sentence when they do videos.
@@Roger-il8iw DP is also "sniffing" an awful lot nowadays as well... Hmm
OK, a Sire with metal HB cover? Mod?
So usually with the presets, the expression pedal can do lots. It's not springy like a wah, its solid and you can leave if at 50%. Lots of options but takes effort to learn presets. And watch your foot gently graze the expression pedal and suddenly you have a 1/3 octaver that bypasses the volume.
Zoom 505 was the first pedal for me. Also got an old peavey distortion
GOAT.. Well done John 👏
A great case in point. If you play well like this guy, you will sound good on pretty much any budget gear out there. I still carry around a Zoom G1Xon to gigs mainly because it's ultra-light and runs on battery! My complaint about the G2X is that they didn't continue this convenient feature which allows you to set up in many more locations.
I have a G2on and it's so simple, cheap and sounds good
I still use my Zoom PS02. 4 track recording, programmable drums to a degree and guitar multi effects. Sounds better than other things I've tried and easier to use.
Yes, It's possibile with a Power bank USB Power your G2 four, i have to g1xon and now i have to g2four, fantastic the possibiliti switch on/ off drum and on/off Looper, indipendent wit 17:46 h your feet 17:46 17:46
Not to worry. It takes in batteries dude
John be the man yo
My only issues I had with it was that none of the distortion preset chains are setup with a noise gate, so you have to go and add it to the chain. Also, the DSP will max out a lot of time when trying to add the 5th or 6th pedal in the chain, so you have to make compromises with your signal chain sometimes. Other than that I love the unique and compact design and that they setup the presets by decade. Also the custom 7 string IR is pretty metal.
Digital John! This segment is very relevant these days, because ever more players are using some kind of integration with computers, phones and DAW software etc.
Zoom always sounded terrible to me. I have trouble believing this sounds good. I'll try to be open minded. I hated COSM too, but now Boss amp modeling tends to sound great, so maybe Zoom can too.
It really takes some skill to eff up designing a modeled effect these days, which is why there are so many good ones out there. That's because there are so many good amp, cab and effect algorhythms out there. Simply speaking, all a modeller has to do is rip them off and stuff them in an outboard unit that can process them. Components to do it can be affordable these days too, because DSP chips and AD/DA convertors are not super expensive like they used to be. Cheaper, alternative components can pretty much do what expensive SHARC DSP chips or Burr Brown AD/DA convertors can do, although usually at slightly lower sampling rates, which is not really perceptible to anybody other than fairy dust snorting audiophiles who have golden unicorn ears.
What is really important to a modeled effect sounding good is the analog part of the unit. Strymon and Source Audio are examples of that. They make sure the analog signal going to and from the DSP is top notch, so the DSP is not trying to polish a turd so to speak. It requires expertise, e.g., folks like Robbie Keeley etc (most of the basics are well known and open source now though).
Zoom's stomp box multi-effects are straight foward, easy pedals. Hard to improve on that more simple version.
What guitar is that ?
Hotone ampero Mini is leading in the midrange multifx
Jeez, how long are John's fingers!
I still have and use the original 505. In fact, I've just taken delivery of the Zoom bass multiFX from you, and I'm loving that too.
I’ve had the bass zoom for 10 yrs. Great for everything including git and synths 👍🏿😊
Multi shootout ahoy! Useful to point students to.
The real bit of kit is Digital John! Amazing playing!
I applaud Zoom for having an 80 second looper and 68 drum beats built in.
I hate how every single other Multi-fx unit has a short looper. I keep a ditto in the FX loop of my HX stomp purely because the built in one is unusable to me at how short the loop is (and the speed at which your double tap needs to be to stop the loop).
I like at least 1 full minute of loop time. Enough to fit a full AABA jazz progression, a slow blues, or something like Little Wing by Jimi Hendrix.
Hell, buy yourself a dedicated looper: $75 and several minutes loop time.
@@digitalchris6681hell buy yourself 10 different fx pedals as well ...
There is a reason for digital multiFX - and long looper time is absolutely doable in digital multiFX
@@digitalchris6681 HE did, he said he has a Ditto looper in his FX loop
How about the looper in front of the rythm?😅
Yay! It's D-I-G-I-T-A-L-J-O-H-N!
DIGITAL JOHN!
I wish they would do a blind test of the cheap modeler vs expensive boutique stuff, that would be fun.
I’ve had the same fast fret since the year 2003 and there’s still plenty left 😅
That thing nailed the 2018 polyphia tone
I still have a zoom 5 0 something that still works
My zoom g3xn has been amazing
are you using the preamp and cabsim?
@@warren4838 sometimes. But mostly I use it as a pedal board into my real amp. I have a small combo amp.
It's been really great because it has so many effects that I'm able to use but would cost a fortune otherwise.
Also I think the g3xn has a really intuitive design where the displays and switches are organised like a real set of pedals
7:42 I'm curious, how did he make that note sound so high ?
Called a “pinch harmonic” the string comes off the pick and hits your thumb skin
@@clintwhite3021 that's what I was thinking but personnaly I can't make that technique on the 2nd fret
@@ebr__ just need lots of gain and in the right spot with the picking hand. Just experiment and they’ll start coming out :)

Is digital John some kind of AI, like ChatGPT, but for guitars?
Yes. Why?

I don't know about this one. Zoom in my opinion hasn't impressed in the multi-effects market as of late and I don't think this unit will stand a chance against similar Boss, Line 6, or Headrush units in this range.
Boss is the only one of those that has anything in this price range and its the GT-1which is from 2016 but has a good reputation and sound surpricingly good from what i have heard, it doesnt have a drum machine though for those that want that. Personally i think i would get the Boss over the Zoom.
If Zoom stepped up and met expectations of what players ask for and need, they would make bank and beat Line 6. I hate Line 6 and return every thing I demo.
@@joellebrodeur1015 Zoom delivers on what it offers: affordable multifx pedals with great modeling and effects that competes with mfx pedals costing thrice as much. We live in a world where "more is more" and people love to spend money, so the equate more expensive = better, but with Zoom we see that is not always the case. The worst part is that the majority of people who put down current Zoom pedals haven't even used them, and whatever they touch they expect to be programmed to their taste - you gotta read the manuals and tweak!
Couldn’t you just put the drum machine after the looper? Then it would be a non issue… that being said I have the GX1on and the looper and drum machine are completely independent. Don’t know why they changed that for this one. 😅
0:56 native speakers around to translate what he started with/as? Pod boy, as in Line 6?
Yep the line 6 pods, those bean shaped effects before they made the pod xt and 300/400/500 had series
Still got a 9002 somewhere.
2 Polyphia and 2 Vulfpeck/Cory Wong Presets in the first 10 hahaha. Gonna buy it just for the presets
This unit sounds amazing, no matter what Lee says🙈🔨ask Joe Satriani which device he used on his million seller top Hit CRYIN' in the 90is😂 it was a zoom 505!! It's in your fingers, not in the machine❤
IF it's good enough for Satch, should be good for the lot of us, Lee included. #ubicatexlee
If only this had a longer looper.
I'm pretty sure that Jimi Hendrix used a Zoom pedal on all his records exclusively.
For sure. As did Clapton, Page, Blackmore, Kossoff, Moore etc etc.
0:42 I just clicked for this
Hmm. This or a Boss GT1 or something else??
Why cut John off on the looper? We watch his videos to hear him rip lol
i know it's a cheaper pedal but why does it have to look like a games console from the 80ish and with the same graphics level or that block i use to put behind my trailers wheel so it doesn't roll
edit: just looked up the price, it's not really that much cheaper than something like the Valeton gp200lt which has tons more effects, drum patterns, a colour screen, can run more effects at the same time and all in all just has a much much easier interface or if you don't like the Valetone, get a Hotone Ampero one it's literally the same price
Gimmechoc2013 and IDZ2013 are Babymetal references. You need a 7 string for those 🤤
NGL, I watch these just for the “digital John” bit
Great little unit , but i would save my money for the G3xn. However , this is just my opinion, if you like ot Buy it , it's your money , after all.
Why you prefere g3xn ?
Xcelkent presentation
Sounds good, but I think Digital John went too far back in time! Interface looks like original Game Boy. Cheers from Canada
What? Boss looper drums are awesome, when did the opposite happened?
Digital John aka Johnny Bandana
All they really need to do is re-release the G5n with twice the processing power.
Hello, this is 1986 calling. We would like our display back please.
More than one Polyphia patch, someone is a fan.
If this is like the old version all cab sims are turned off by default. Sounds way better with those on.
Your laziness would benefit from programming them so you don't have to turn them on by default everytime. You have to program it anways to get your preferred tone, what's the big deal? OH you don't feel like reading the manual, tough cookies, every pedal no matter how cheap or expensive has a learning curve, if you can't learn stick to playing xbox.
I don't like the basic affordable amp sim stuff. .. just want a good multi-effects pedal to use either with real analog OD pedals and an amp ....or with a Tonex pedal.
ahhh yes, John Connearn: leader of the worldwide resistance and last best hope of humankind.
Zoom stuff always sounds great. But paying for the apps? Cmon
Charging for the app is such a dumb move. If they need the money make the pedal one euro more expensive and that's it. Leaves a bad taste.
(polyphia ) it was recognizable! Lee is a savage.
I misspelled now.
I saw more reviews about this pedal. Most of them say it is a piece of crp.
Zoom g1xon was good but it just buzzed like hell.
I have a zoom 30/30 and I gotta say I find it horrid. My Korg a4 absolutely obliterates it. Korg a4 is the best multi effects I've ever owned ,and it's going strong since 1992. My korg a4 bass has been round the world touring ,and still going strong. These units were built well ,and made to last. As for the zoom drum machines , yes theyre great for the money. I have the zoom rt123. Theyre great.
So the unit is $300 squid if you want the app to make it run best? They should just include it and increase the retail. Why does it matter to me? IDK…I just watch anything Andertons.
The drums sound really good!
let him play sir
