I drove Land Rovers for quite a few years down here in Brazil back in my army days... damn good cars! (of course, they ain't nearly as powerful as those hummers, but they are incredibly versatile as well as reliable) The British Army maintains the use of the mechanically simple 2.5 litre 4-cylinder 300TDi engined versions rather than the electronically controlled 2.5 litre 5-cylinder TD5 to retain some servicing simplicity.
Not meant to slam, note that I never mention the author's vehicle. I just pointed out, through firsthand experience, that expensive luxury 4x4's aren't necessary for these obstacles, and thus off -roading is not limited to the yuppies; the everyday working-person can also enjoy it. And one could argue that Lion's Back's length, height, and uniqueness make it special. Also, note that in Moab all of the trails are Jeep trails, meaning they are most suitable for Jeeps, not Land Rovers or Hummers.

Strengths and weaknesses, my plastics on 2006 Grand Cherokee are crap, but the handling on the English twisty roads is very good, traction (off road and snow) even with stock tyres is unbelievable, as is the 0-60mph in 9 seconds on a Diesel.
I think you'll fin that more Armies around the world are using Land Rovers. The Defender 110 to be precise. Even the US has them in small numbers to do what Humvees can't in the SO area.
Come on these are beautiful vehicles. Although I LOVE my lifted Rubicon. I must admit I have heard from owners that all Brit autos like the shop. From Jags to Triumphs.
I honestly think that the hummer is in a totally different class than any other wheeler and in my personal oppinion hmmers are best, but your entitled to yours. its good to see a range rover thats not stuck n the suburbs,and i dream of wheeling in moab. oh and try searching 'hummer h2' and the first result should be right. i dunno y i rly posted that cuz i think this is one of the only vids here w/o a big fight about which car is best
why does eveyone have to argue about whats better, its sad really. Come on its about getting out the and having fun off road even though im land rover fan im not going to post up saying how landcurisers are rubbish etc, all have strengths and weeknesses. Brillant vid Adspiker
it really isnt dude. the tahoe zr1 is a decent off roader, dont forget that, and the h2 is amazing. you just have to know how to use it, its a lot bigger than normal off roaders.
if you really think about it wouldn't the sort be better off road because its lighter have all the same off road stuff and its got the chassi from a lr3
All this talk about Rovers loving the shop is nonsense. They have primo scheduled maintenence and I haven't had a single problem yet with my baby Rover. The past is the past. The new Rovers never die!
Not true. i own a 1988 lr 90 and only thing its ever had replaced is engine filters/ oil. Still on the original propshaft u.j's, and it regularly goes offroad.

who ever thinks jeeps are as good just go to moab and drive your stock jeep on a trail called hell's revenge.. you wont make it with out body damage brake damage and probally engine to small for climbs.. My stock 2002 disco 2 made it fine the only jeeps i saw were not really jeeps and not inexpensive. i talked to tree jeepers from the east coast and there jeeps had about fifty grand of upgrades to them.. i paid 14,900 for my rover like two and a half years ago.. oh and i drove there they towed.
jeeps are not better or cheaper.. try bringing your stock jeep to moab.. Hell's revenge would eat your stock jeep for lunch and you would have to tow it home.

I was able to get on top of lions back with my stock Jeep Grand Cherokee Wj 2004.

our jeep got stuck by off roading in the field next door,so we went home and pulled it out with our Range Rover classic....!
