my mom only has to pay like i think 300 or around there bc insurance paid for mine but i had one of the things listed that the doctor said would probably get me braces with insurance for example an overbite only paid 300 bc of the retainer *

But for the same price I read somewhere you can get things called invisalign (like a retainer except its braces) that apparently works better but costs quite alot

Currently, I'm at the retainer "only wear at night" phase, and I really don't want to miss a night (was told that I'll need the braces again if I don't wear my retainer when I'm supposed to). Only problem is, I now see retainer as something I need both dentally and mentally (ask to wear it during the day even though I don't need to)
You can eat gum with braces, but it has to be sugar free. Didn't read the packaging once and got gum stuck in the brackets and the top of my expander. Always double check the packaging lol
The last one, I can relate ✋🏻 I have an expander, and lemme tell you something: do not, and I mean DO NOT eat sticky, stringy, chewy, and thin little bits like popcorn. Moral of the story: if you’re getting braces, get a water pick. It’s so much easier 👍🏻

I always knew how expensive braces were because I read every damn thing I could find while waiting for my turn at the dentist when I was younger and because my dentist had mentioned a few times that I might have needed to get them.
As an adult with braces I was constantly reminded how expensive dental was as a child. We lived in poverty and my mother always told me to brush and take care of my teeth because if they fell out it would be my fault and I couldn't get them fixed.
Actually, I don’t really like gum so it wasn’t really a problem for me, although the worst part in my opinion was not being able to eat any of the really crunchy food that I liked at the time

My dads a dentist and there’s like an unspoken agreement if u recommend your patients to a specific orthodontist they will do ur kids teeth for free. (My dad feels bad about it so he’ll always bring the office doing our teeth a bunch of pastries)
I BEGGED my mom for braces even tho we didn’t have the money for them and she finally ended up getting them for me at 16 (which was low key embarrassing since most kids get them in middle school) and I felt so bad when I found out how much money they cost. She ended up having to go on a payment plan and didn’t finish paying them off until 2 years after I got them off

You can eat any type of gum if you just don’t get it near the brackets, that’s what I do and it’s really easy
