This is one of my old laptop from Sony Vaio back in 2012. Still it does work but the actual Hard Drive is broken and slow. So I have decided to upgrade this laptop from Hard Drive to M.2 SATA SSD. Which dramatically change the speed from slug to rocket. It used to run on Windows 7 but running on Windows 10 now.

Ive got the same make and model Laptop,The Sony PCG-71311M,Got mine of E bay a while ago,Costed me 99p in the acution,It badly smashed up when I first had mine,I taken the whole Laptop to bits,Cleaned out all the parts,Repaired the main board,Updated the processor and ram,Also replaced the broken brackets from the LCD screen,Replaced the bezel,Formatted the Hard drive,Now updating to Windows 10 32 bit,Got my self a very cheap Laptop,Costed me next to nothing,Do the same with most things now days,Most things cost next to nothing
I have upgraded the hdd with a Toshiba ssd 240gb and it is really fast now

I'm trying to update from windows 8 to windows 10 but there isn't a clear instruction online. Vaio update (app) isn't working anymore.
You can grab the generic windows 10 upgrade image that should work but you will end up with a windows.old folder so make sure you got plenty of space left. Also choose to keep programs and drivers would probably be advised
Mine came with an i7 and a 500GB drive. I wonder what the limit is? I have a few 1TB SSDs here I could use.

Yes. Make sure you update the hot key function driver from Sony vaio website. Or update check for windows
If do recovery using original CDs to get Vaio software installed correctly , you are now stuck on Win 8, can't upgrade to 8.1 or 10 because Sony removed all of the files and website links. Does some repair shop sell a disc with all of the files to proceed? Also to get all the VAIO software back and running once in Win 10?

I upgraded ram and cpu, it uses to much power and heat and can barely run a thing. I tried instal 2x ssd and shutdown at about 25% prepare or instal proces where it made both ssd worthless. Aslong as i do no more then 1 website open it can handle it, else agian its shutdown. I got this vaio from colegas seen i like laptop, now gonna set appart money to build a amd desktop. i have a intel desktop and gonna do amd seen i tried to fix 3 laptops but they disagree with me. I am trying to find why the Vaio shutsdown, i did make airholes at fan so it can suck in cool air wich worked.

Hello. I need sata drivers to install windows xp for vaio pcg 31311m. Without sata drivers - windows won't install. Do you know where I can get them? Unfortunately, the manufacturer doesn't provide them.
