Sears Modern Homes were homes sold primarily through mail order catalog by Sears, Roebuck and Co., an American retailer. From 1908 to 1942, Sears sold more than 70,000 of these houses in North America, by the company's count... we have a lot of these in my town of Elgin IL.. it's cool looking up the catalog picture then seeing the old home in my town. We might Elgin Il, have the most in existence.
Great looking homes. I live in FL so not for me but i'm getting close to a purchase. Steel frame to help with rain and high wind speeds. Also I don't want to worry about rodents or termites. Thanks!
The Leadville starts @ $240k. Wow, that's a chunk of change. Wolf industries in Battleground, WA builds a very similar shed roof design (Model F) but 16 foot shorter for $93k. I toured their shop and they don't cut corners. They can add a deck, rearrange windows and put the kitchen in a corner or along the wall. My quote from last Feb put the total close to $110k, but that was with extra options of a metal roof, deck and a T&G ceiling. So many companies out there with so many options. If someone is in the market for a prefab, they really got to do their homework.
You were correct in calling it Leadville. I lived in Colorado for 11 years and Loved it. The homes are awesome. The Leadville model to me is perfect. My property in in Northeastern Az. So maybe a stretch. But close, I may have to contact them and see if I am close enough. Thanks.
It is nice to see a local builder to me. And you are correct with pronouncing Leadville. While the prices seem high to some. It is almost cost effective compared to the prices of of homes in the areas they say they service. All are Ski towns.
You know Kerry, I like the ideas that you present to us. I watched a video on the Earthships with it's creator, and thought an ES is perfect. Then, you come in with another fabulous model.
Thank you for your channel! I, too, find the number of offerings head-spinning. It would be very valuable if we could download an up-to-date spreadsheet of homes on offer with all features so we could sort them according to our needs, wants, means, etc. I know it would entail a lot of work to create and maintain such a resource but it would be worth a lot of... cheddar to those of us trying to get the best deal for an ADU, etc. You could offer it as a pay-to-download, or a subscription that would be updated periodically. I would happily pay to have a resource like that -- it would save us a LOT of time and stress and put some extra money in your pocket. Just a thought. Keep up the good work.
I like the global videos, keep them coming. Did the prices for these homes include shipping and setup on-site? Did they give estimates of the costs for the general contractor to get the site ready and finish the build? Rather pricey to me.
Lovely homes! I no longer live in CO, but I did....and I had a home with main bedroom/bath over the garage. Never again! It was always the coldest room in the whole house. Not a good design idea...unless you're in FL. 🙂
While the space would necessarily require a family or a group of people of #2&3, the first one is very cute. So, you support the sandwich but, are "whoo??"😅😅 Gotta say I enjoy your humor. Shivering black bell thumbs up 😎 #👍🏻 I like the S-1 model from the website.
Terry, you could have "global Fridays" on your channel or one "global pick" every episode. Your viewers like stability. You could also create a second channel "Kerry Tarrow - Global". I've been watching you from the beginning. You've come a long way. Keep on keepin' on 😀👍
Thanks , Kerry! Cool stuff! Thay may sound expensive to some, but in that neck of the woods they would be a bargain hunter's dream. I lived in Vail for many years and Leadville had some of the best Mexican food around. 👍🌮🇲🇽 You nailed the pronunciation. Leadville is most well known for the training ground for the military's 10 Mountain Division and, of course, the discovery of lead carbonate in the 1800's. Lots of sidenotes in this comment. 🤔😉🤷♂️ Thanks again. Always enjoy your videos!
Heads up. This place wont even let you LOOK at the houses online if you dont meet their criteria. WTF??? You cant even look at the product??? You can see a list but no actual house etc. What a garbage marketing plan. Talk about losing potential customers. I am not ready to make decisions on things yet so i am still fact gathering. This just turned me completely off
There does seem to be a shortage of these type of home manufacturers in northern California. Mainly I see manufactured houses (previously named mobile homes), and homeless community temporary housing, ADU’s, etc., but nothing like the homes you feature on your channel. I’m looking forward to seeing more of those kind of companies in this area.
That was a slick move putting that plug in for VPN, and now to the video. The video was okay however, the particular home builder you're speaking of only offer homes in COLORADO? How does that help anyone who lives on the East coast?
Man, you had me going with that 800 sq ft model, then shot me down with the price! Geez, expensive much? Always enjoy your videos, though. I don't suppose you have a single, much, much older brother as cute as you with your sense of humor? LOL
Kerry, we're looking for a 20' wide 50' long prefab for a footprint foundation already in place. Is there a way to find a plan that fits that footprint?
Those are stunning. What do you have for we benighted Alabamians, who are less worried about snow, and more worried about global warming turning the Appalachians into beachfront property? Thanks for all the work you do in research and editing! That Emerald house! :swoon:
Only thing is I thought pre fab was supposed to cut costs-by 50%- here- so 240k divide 840- is $285 per sqft...o.k. well w/out the lot were talking a bit for under the min of most places 1150 or so sq ft Min. & I just don't see whole lot of advantage maybe little faster build. But for those who don't shy at that price are the ppl that already prob aren't with real home ownership issues to begin with. They do & will have a market- but I'm not really seeing it for the ppl that need to go tiny for affordability in many of these. Unless your out East or in Urban high cost housing area many of these are still for those w the larger ck book [& not-starter homes]. I'd like to see those with the minimalistic pay as you go or not Mini-Tiny but Tiny small for families. Most tiny 's aren't intended for older ppl or families-& being realistic abt weather & adding on a breeze-way is a smart thing for states w more than 1 season- to keep the weather & etc. from immediately entering the premises-and storage for cold weather items is a must. Just a couple of add-ons like that can make or break a person's sanity when its easily only price considering & over- downsizing. Push for those extras if at all possible w a crawl space or 1 extra room for storage.
I saw this thumbnail and was like "OOOOOOOOOOooooooOOO!" Now I have to see the video probably to learn they don't serve the east coast or even the USA! 😂😂😂 BRB on the update!
The Skyview is an incredible model. It looks like it’s a big home that can fit into a tight space/ narrow property. It’s exterior color scheme was surprisingly eye catching. The price tag made go “oof” really loudly for the first time in a long while 😅. But I never let the price get in the way of a good daydream. 😁 Great video on another new company I was unaware of. Once again, you knocked it out of the park Kerry. 🏟️⚾️ Until the next video. 😎
Yes I love these, but prices still seem high. Once you add land costs and lot prep costs utilities run, you're talking a bunch of money for a home. When you can buy a very nice built home in a nice development for the same and often less.
And those prices don’t include the cost of land, pad development for foundation and utilities, or furniture. The fact that you can get the same look by stacking $3,500, 40’ shipping containers in an offset pattern is not lost on me. Build your own for $100k or buy theirs for $400+k, hmmm 🤔
Really nice but expensive homes. All they need to do is figure out how to make them into subterranean homes so we can live comfortably in the parts of USA that have horrible weather part of the time. That way we can just hibernate.
I agree with other folks commenting: Holy Smokes! These homes are expensive compared to pretty much all the other U.S. made prefabs you've featured on thus channel. Ridiculous, not selling to the average American for sure. They do look nice but as with most homes, what is seriously up with not including a distinct entryway area ("foyer")? No place to put your stuff, no closet, no transition from outside to inside. Poor design. I was really hoping these homes would be financially within reach and functional; darn, neither.
@@KerryTarnow Love your channel. I’m trying to find the ‘courtyard’ collection of pods by a swimming pool and they also make a two story. You featured the company. Lots of glass.

These designs are cool, but the process, timeline and prices are outrageous. Sounds like they've only got the rich and famous in mind. Dang, Emerald is a nice looking home but $500,049 seems to miss the mark to me. Pre-fab builders always harp about the reduced process, ease of building indoors, reduced waste material, etc etc... Yes, thanks for posting this. They have some a good product here but it’s WAY overpriced.
