Naya was only hired as a temporary background cheerleader but ended up being one of the top 3 vocalists and actors on the show and was given the best songs and hard hitting storylines.

Love that duet, there's one part in particular when she sings "when she needs me, oh how she needs me" that "neeeds meeee" part hits right in the gut. Had me begging Britt to go back to Santana lmao.

Naya did so many great covers on Glee. This is another great cover she did.
This reaction also just makes me look forward to the Glee Season 2 watch parties (this cover/performance is from an episode near the end of Season 2). During Season 1 Santana is a background character who only sang in a few songs the second half of Season 1. In Season 2 because Naya was promoted to a series regular her character of Santana gets more characterization in Season 2 and starts to sing more throughout Season 2 (so she will be featured as a background vocalist, she will have duets, and she will have solos).
Hands down one of my favorite Naya covers. Her voice fits this song perfectly 😍

You could sometimes compare the cut for tv version and then the full song. Watch the video for context and then watch (listen to) the full version. They often cut off the best vocal parts from the aired version but the full versions are all on RUclips. (E.g. this is a 4 minute song which they condensed to 2 minutes.) “Make No Mistake, She’s Mine” has some amazing Naya riffs that they didn’t include in the show. Right towards the end of the full recording she does something that definitely could use some vocal explanation about how TF she sang it.
Naya was amazing at every song, but Valerie and Back to Black are my absolute favourites 😍

There are so many reasons to love Naya’s singing, but right now the one I’m noticing most is that she can take this song, which is basically one not only for the majority of a verse and then just barely leaves that note for a little bit… and then right back to the same one note… And it is so hard to make that sound anything but boring. But Naya has made it drive forward. As in, I didn’t even notice how boring the song could be until I tried it myself, and was like HOW DID NAYA DO THAT.
