One of my favorite covers from Glee. Such a shame that this is the only cover that features the trio of Amber, Naya, and Jenna (there are times when they sang in the same group performances though). Of course there are Naya and Amber duets/group performances where they both sang lead and those were always so good. Absolutely love the a cappella vocals in the opening by Naya in this cover. Jenna is a great singer and I wish her vocals were utilized more in the earlier seasons. You will hear more of Jenna's voice in the later seasons.
Exactly we needed more of Jenna. This proves that she can hold her own with Naya and Amber. During her part in this song, I noticed that Naya even smiles at Jenna in a way of saying "yess girl".
Everyone sleeps on Jenna in this performance but she’s just as amazing as Amber and Naya
I think Jenna sounds beautiful. I like the layers in Naya's and Amber's voices, but I love the soft tone from Jenna too. It's one of my favorite performances by Jenna.
Their harmonies are just gorgeous.
I think a lot of ppl forget or don’t know that Jenna is a broadway singer
I think this isn't about her being a bad singer, but more that in this performance you could tell Naya and Amber have a stronger layer to the song than Jenna... I love Jenna's voice but when you put her in a song with Naya and Amber you can tell she's one of the weaker ones....
@@brodymunoz3229 tbh,Jenna isn’t a weaker singer at all. She’s actually a broadway singer.Glee just unfortunately didn’t give her a chance to shine

Magic always happens when you put Mercedes and Santana together. I also love that Tina got a little time to shine.

Sugar is the girl on the end, canonically in the show she's tone deaf and they never let her sing solo bits. Idk why they didn't have Brittney sing though.
Its hilarious because Vanessa Lengies can sing but they wrote Sugar tone deaf and its sad

Jenna (Tina) is one of the best vocalists on Glee and has in my opinion, one of the best tones and can harmonise so so well. It’s a shame that her talent was slept on, on the show but also when vocal coaches react to her singing…

This episode will always be so powerful, especially the ending. So many people ask why victims don’t get out of abusive situations and blame them for staying. Truth is a lot of times these abusers prey on victims who believe no one else could ever love them, that they have to stay. They destroy their self-worth, their ability to feel worthy of love and kindness. I think that came across very well in this episode, and why it’s so heartbreaking. Survivors of domestic violence should never be blamed, they deserve to feel loved because they are worthy of it. They are not broken, and they are strong even if they fall back into their abusers grip. Listening to their stories and re-affirming that strength is incredibly important.

this is one of my favorite songs on glee. i sometimes go back and watch this performance every once in a while and i'll be honest, i never once noticed the man in the background smiling. i was too focused on the ladies singing.

Apparently, Jenna said they were supposed to do an original song for this episode, but it didn’t get appoved, so they had to quickly record this song for the scene.
After this Episode Shanon/ Beast actually got the courage to leave her Boyfriend. I always get goosebumps with this emotional Song and Shanons emotions showing on her face ='

I never minded the guy smiling in the background, my focus was squarely on Mercedes, Santana and Tina...on Glee it was like the musicians were in their own worlds anyways.
P.s- why Sugar and Brittany are there 🤔 I dunno. They're not singing and I don't really consider them eye candy. I guess it's for emotional support in the moment for Coach Beast.

Why when escaping abuse do we constantly hear "you're.... like..... too much right now... call me when you're 'better'".
I will 'get better' because I'm stubborn as he-double hockey sticks, I have a fierce love for my children, and really want this world to be a better place.
Please think of this the next time a harmed person blesses you with sharing their pain. Even recovering abuse victims need people, sometimes more people than normal even, but we're given zero.
We're too much. So the cycle of abuse continues to drown us.
We know we aren't worthwhile
You should probably go over the glee version "Take me or Leave me" done by Lea Michele and Amber Riley on the show. That was another hot duet.
Jenna (Tina) came to the show from super successful Broadway shows, including being in original cast of Spring Awakening.

Sugar Moto (spelling?) was the girl to the right of Mercedes. They established during her first appearance that she can't sing at all, but her family had money to donate to the Glee club and, well, they always seem to need funding, so she was accepted. Her character has had a couple of arcs and she performs with the group, strangely, but never solos or anything.
I still cry everytime I hear Nhia sing. Makes me so so sad that she went so young.
One of the songs I love from glee that I think you should hear is get it right sung by Rachel berry it is one of my favorite songs ever

At first I skipped this scene when I was watching this episode because I had some work to do but then I was confused about what was going on and I was thinking “Is Coach Beiste crying happy tears or sad tears?” so I went back and watched the Shake It Out scene.

I never even thought about the cast not being told exactly the meaning behind what song they were singing. That just sounds crazy to me because they do need to show emotions as they sing.
That was the guitarist who said that. The girls were there throughout the episode so obviously they would know the story. It still doesn’t make sense for them not to tell the band what was going on though.
Fun fact… the originally sung love the way you lie. The Rihanna version but it didn’t get approved so last minute they recorded this

This episode ENDED me. I was so excited for Coach Beiste to get a romantic interest and then THIS!!!! Oh, my heart went through too much watching this episode.

I love how Naya started it out and Amber finished it by putting some stank all over that thing! I also loved this this was one of the rare moments where Tina had a chance to shine, they all blended so well together. While this was such an emotional episode I always laugh just thinking about the faux pas the girls made at first by singing "Cell block tango". I loved that performance but under the circumstances it was a terrible choice of songs. Then Nene Leakes had one of the best reactions to them singing it, which led to us getting this gem.
Tina had several solos and duets and featured in songs throughout the run of Glee (especially the first four seasons), plus her own share of story arcs, so not sure where the "rare moments" comes from.
@@kev7161 It's true that she had solos especially in the later seasons but I hate to say that many of them are unremarkable. This is why I said a rare chance to shine because I love her in this. This one and "Because you love me" were ones where she really had the chance to shine. I liked "Jumpin Jumpin" as well but it didn't showcase her voice as well as the first two I mentioned. IMO Tina was underutilized on the show.
@@TroubleD123abc To be fair, it was a show with 3-4 leads and then about 15 other characters running around for the writers and music directors to try and focus on when they could. Not to mention a whole slew of guest stars taking some of that spotlight. I feel a lot of favorites were probably underutilized according to different viewers.
@@kev7161 very true. I realize that there was just so much talent on that show. I just always felt that as one of the true original glee club members, before even the Unholy Trinity joined, we would have gotten a little more of her. I did relish the moments like these, though.
100% agree. For someone who was on broadway and actually has strong vocals, Jenna was criminally underutilized.
