Been watching your channel for quite a few months now and I can really see an improvement in your latest photos with the D850 and now with the 9fps. That shot at 4:12 is amazing! Keep up the great work, you're going to be one of the top youtube photographers one day.
You are a great storyteller and I get to learn so much about not just the camera. It’s very helpful. I like it when you mention in audio the settings so I don’t HAVE to pause and squint at tiny lettering of data info. Anyway to make that font easier to read? Your passion is spot on, though, and much appreciated!
Ill try to speak the settings and why more often. I can try and make the lettering a little larger as well. Thanks for the compliments and for watching.
Hey Mark Chad commenting here just wanted to say, man I wish I could afford that d850 but I'm saving for a d500 and I'll use my d7200 as my secondary body and just wanted to say you are now my favorite photographer, thanks for being so awesome, Chad.
Just incredible, you really know how to capture great shots. Most important is not the gear, I'm sure you would be as successful with Canon, Panasonic or Sony stuff. But having such a great location that offers so many many photo opportunities with birds is just invaluable. All these pictures in one day? Marvelous.
I think, you are right. Birds do smile and laugh. Great video, your knowledge of birds is amazing and commentry is always better than the previous video. Bravo
Watching your videos and hearing you be impressed with the D850 has me to thinking of getting one. Is always good to hear from those who have such kit and what they do and don't like about it. Thankyou for sharing your knowledge and experience.
In my humble opinion Mark you a great bird photographer. All your images so such great passion in there habitat and with sharing your experience at the same time. I feel Nikon should look you up to be one of there new ambassadors! Thank you and keep shooting!
Another awesome video Mark. I really like the way you put your settings on the pictures and tell us a real good story as the video progresses. Top marks from Sussex England!
Thanks. I'm not sure if I am getting more familiar with the camera or what but there is a definite difference with the grip and battery. The keeper rate is far higher!
Thanks. I an truly amazed by the amount of wildlife in that small area. It is by far one of the coolest places for wildlife photography. I've captured so many great shots in that area.
Awesome content, Mark. The combination of voice over and live video is very engaging and captures the moments perfectly. I subbed yesterday and this morning picked up your quick start guide for the D850. Looking forward to a nice read later this evening. Thanks for sharing!
I just got a D850 and used it in the Everglades and Merritt Island. I was learning as I went. Unfortunately the grip is on backorder so I didn't have the 9fps. Even without it I got some amazing pictures and what I discovered when I got home was that I could crop without loss of sharpness as compared to my D4. I learned as I went and the more that I learned the more I fell in love with it.
Brilliant video Mark. Fantastic detail and wonderful colours. I'm very jealous of that fantastic light you had. It seems to have been dull and wet for ages over here. Best wishes from the U.K.
Wow those blue bottles (man-o-war) are huge! we get them here along the east coast of Australia with onshore currents and in summer we can get plagues of them that close beaches but i've never seen ones that big!
you are doing great with the videos. and you narrating is spot on. thanks so much for sharing with us, You said you us eto shoot with the Sigma and now the Nikon can you do a comparing video or did I miss it ? I currently use the Sigma 150 x600
Mark Smith oh ok, still can you do a comparison on the Tamron and Nikon, I'm wanting to up to the 200 x 500 Nikon , if it's worth reinvesting. I believe the Tamron and Sigma are close to the same.
Thanks. You are correct. I think the D500 and the D850 will cover every single type of photography out there and video as well as long as you can learn how to shoot video without autofocus.
Oh ya, you watch Mark's videos and before you know you will buy the gear he has. I did. D500 and 200-500mm lens. LOL D850 later in life after I retire...
I've had the D500 and 200-500 for just over a year now and love this combo. I've been on the fence thinking about trading in or selling the D500 and picking up the D850. But the more I think about it it would be nice to have two bodies for when I'm shooting football. Have the 70-200 on the D500 and a 24-70 on the D850 for the red zone. Bonus and tax returns are coming soon. ;)
I now have the d500 and d850 along with the d810. Love them all. I mainly shoot live music photography and video. The d500/850 combo os perfect . Been using the same combo for football. For this I’ve been using a Nikkor 300mm f4 on the d500 and Nikkor 70-200 e fl vr on the d850.
Does shooting two extra frames a second make that much of a difference? I want a grip, but don't want to spend the $1,000+ to get one just for two frames. It's part of the reason I don't get a mirrorless, aside from the fact the D850 is so awesome. I just don't need 30 frames a second of anything. Excellent video by the way, and most excellent shots. So clear. Tack sharp clear.
Superb job Mark, you make that D850 work now with the grip. That shot @9:06 when you got lower reminded me of Moose Petersons' advice difference between good and great photographers is 1 step forward, you went lower. Then @3:52 - 3:54 the word e fish ent, efishent. LOL Thanks again
Thanks so much. My kids laughed at the whole e fish ent part as well. Thanks for watching and yes, that is great advice! It is really amazing what moving a foot or two can do to an image.
Great Photos. The sharpness of the birds is amazing. You do a great unintended sales job for Nikon. I am just about ready to move to a Nikon D500. I enjoy your videos a lot. I love wildlife and especially birds; so I am hooked by the quality of your videos and the sharp images. Thanks!
Wow Mark another awesome video that Nikon D850 is a great camera to have. The grip gives it a few more frames but I believe that is the photographer that makes the story happens. Your commentator skills and the photos taken just amazing Mark thanks for sharing.
I am always amazed at the images you capture. I especially like the ones that show activity in motion. I like portraits too. But, capturing an animal in motion allows you to see their life in ways that pass to quickly for humans to appreciate. I recently bought a D850, used at a wildlife sanctuary in New Mexico where is very difficult to get close the birds. I did find out how impressive the images can be. I may put the GRIP on my wish list. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for all the kind words. I really appreciate it. I agree about being able to see things that happen to fast for us to appreciate. That is one of the things I like the most about photography! Thanks for watching.
Happy New Year to you Mark. You're certainly getting some awesome detail with the D850, some great light under the birds on the in-flight shots which makes me really jealous. Entertaining and informative as always mate, great work.
Man this is awesome ... I tested D850 few weeks back wuth my 200-500 and now feel my D810 so ancient and out dated ... N I'm sure this battery grip must have breathed a new life in this beast ... What an all-rounder camera this d850 is ... So how good is lens? Seems like a decent sharp lens to me and a good combo with d850 ...
Thanks for the compliments. The grip does indeed make the D850 a new beast. It is just incredible. I;m having a hard time because now I am filling my memory cards in one day of shooting! Too many keepers in there. My 200-500 is exceptional! I love it.
Beautiful work Mark! The detail you are pulling out with the D850 is remarkable. How close was that Kingfisher to you? I can't wait to get out and take some pics of the winter birds around my area, so far it has been way too cold for me!!
Thanks for the compliments. When the Kingfisher went in the water, I would guess 100 feet or 30 meters. That area was difficult to shoot too. The ISO was really high. When the bird flew out and then came back for a closer view, the images with just sky, I would say it was about 20-25 feet away or 10 meters.
Beautiful shots Mark, the high fps definitely helps! I wish I had some of those birds in my area, but I do see osprey, great blue heron and kingfisher! One fact I noticed about the osprey in your shots and mine they always carry their fish head first, more aerodynamic I assume.
Awesome stuff as usual Mark. Whats your #1 tip for getting that initial subject in the view finder and then keeping it there? Just spent the day at the Zoo with my D500 and New 200-500. Was fun but have some learning to do.
Thanks. I would say keep the subject a little smaller at first until the camera acquires focus and then slowly start zooming in to keep the bird in the frame.
Awesome. You almost don't need the D500 anymore? You can even see the detail in the little fish's eye. I love the blue sky as a backdrop for the birds.
Love the t-shirt Mark 🤣 that D850 is a beast. Your Osprey shots are definitely my favourite, hope to see more of them in up coming videos and great spotting by your Son on that last one 👍🏻
That shirt was a present from my kids. I think they know me well. I love it. The ospreys are tons of fun to watch and photograph. I'll be including plenty more of them.
The grip? It is worth every single penny. Trust me on this one but just wait until next month and I'll let you try it for yourself and then you will have to get it!
Hey Mark. I wonder if you have considered getting a sponsor and doing a camera giveaway. For some of us, it would be the only way to get a dream camera like the D500 or a D850. Just a thought. Love all the videos and images. Keep them coming. I have been following you from almost the begining. Your videos and images keep getting better.
@@MarkSmithphotography they are out there. Believe it or not. Might have to run a add for them for a little while. If you don't have time to. I could search around a bit for you and report back what I find. Even Nikon does it at times.
Just received the OEM grip for my D850. In fact, the entire grip assembly is OEM except the charger. I notice that when in AF mode either Group or D25, it works properly when camera is in landscape position but when I turn the camera to portrait mode, the D25 or Group mode automatically changes to Single. Now, I admit, no one would shoot BIF in vertical position, but have you noticed the same thing? Af is set to "C" of course. Again, thanks for your great and inspiring videos!
Hi Shaggy, Beautiful images and I love your stories. Yesterday, I was out with the same setup and ended up with shots of some pigeons and a squirrel in the snow. Last trip to Florida, I remember seeing storks, standing in peoples' lawns. Are there any of them in your area? Cheers - Hamish
It's tough resisting the temptation to buy the d850 after seeing your shots. Id love to see some real world shots taken when the light isnt so good :) Great video and shots as ever Mark.
Loving your videos! I've been binge-watching them, haha. Great sense of humor and great Bob Ross shirt! I just bought a D500. I also have a D800 which is in great condition and still going strong. I'm finding out that the D500 is probably going to take over macro and wildlife photography for me. I found that to get the same zoom level as the D500 I have to crop my D800 images to about 14-16 megapixels. The D850 would solve the problem with its 45 megapixels, making a cropped image of 23+ megapixels, compared to the D500's 21 megapixels. Still very close though, and I can't afford to upgrade to the D850 right now anyway, lol. Again, great videos, keep them coming! :)
Hello Mark! I'm wondering if the d500 still has any advantages over D850 since the cropped resolutions are pretty much equal. I'm thinking about selling my d500 and D810 and get a D850. Thank you and your videos are awesome.
You are the real photographer, after watching almost all your videos i bought a Nikon D500 today and was looking to get a 200-500 but you changed to D850. Do they make huge difference in details? you gonna let D500 go?
+Dulkifil Ck Thanks for the compliments. I have no plans on getting rid of my d500. The d850 is new so I am putting it to work in order to see where each camera fits into my style of shooting. There is bug difference in resolution between the two. The d850 has about twice the resolution. It also costs about twice as much when you get it up to 9fps.
you have 25 points ??? WoW, I have a canon 7D mark II which I use with a tamron G2-150-600, OC I love the reach of that, but not the quick focus, I loose lots of great movements with birds, full of action... But I am afraid that I will get lost with sony menus!!!!
Haha awesome i bought the nikon grip and 3 el 18 batteries and never used it on hi , but im greatfull for the crazily long battery life , id reccomend the battery grip n door just for that cheers Mark
Since i too have the same combo, i just jump on to ur videos the moment they are uploaded, Would be more helpful, if u post the Metering and the focus mode used with the Exif
Been watching your channel for quite a few months now and I can really see an improvement in your latest photos with the D850 and now with the 9fps. That shot at 4:12 is amazing! Keep up the great work, you're going to be one of the top youtube photographers one day.
Thanks so much. I really appreciate the compliments. Knowing that you see an improvement is also great to hear. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Wow Mark! Your productions should be on prime time TV. Simply excellent content and narration.
Thanks! That is very nice of you to say. I really appreciate it.
Never get tired of watching these videos. They're awesome !
Thanks!
I appreciate that you include the camera settings in your beautiful photos. Thank you!
Thanks for watching

You never disappoint with your great images Mark!
Thank you!

Thanks for the kind words and for watching. The D500 is a great camera. You will love it.
it really baffles me, the great quality, and how sharp these pictures are at such a long distance
It is a great combo!
Just incredible, you really know how to capture great shots. Most important is not the gear, I'm sure you would be as successful with Canon, Panasonic or Sony stuff. But having such a great location that offers so many many photo opportunities with birds is just invaluable. All these pictures in one day? Marvelous.
Yes, one long day and thanks for all the great compliments. I really appreciate it. This area is just loaded with wildlife. I love it.
I think, you are right. Birds do smile and laugh. Great video, your knowledge of birds is amazing and commentry is always better than the previous video. Bravo
I have been showing your animal tales to my children when it is time to go to bed. You save me so much time! thanks!
You are welcome! That is really cool to know. Thanks for watching.
Nice narration followed through a series of shots.... especially osprey shots are amazing... really...D850 rocks...best Nikon product....
Watching your videos and hearing you be impressed with the D850 has me to thinking of getting one. Is always good to hear from those who have such kit and what they do and don't like about it. Thankyou for sharing your knowledge and experience.
Damn you!! Another awesome video 🤓😘😘
Thank you!
In my humble opinion Mark you a great bird photographer. All your images so such great passion in there habitat and with sharing your experience at the same time. I feel Nikon should look you up to be one of there new ambassadors! Thank you and keep shooting!
That is very nice of you to say. Thank you so much. I’m still waiting on the invite from Nikon!
Another awesome video Mark. I really like the way you put your settings on the pictures and tell us a real good story as the video progresses. Top marks from Sussex England!
Thanks for watching and for the kind words.
Dang, I’m so committed to Cannon with thousands tied up in lenses! That Nikon is amazing!
Very gentle birds.
Spectacular Osprey shots! Great storytelling as well, I’m a fan!
Thanks!
Was a nice day with many nice shots. I can't wait for spring!
It sure was. Thanks for watching.
Perfect Mark, now you can evaluate the ability of the lens to focus and track with the EN-EL18 and the standard EN-EL 15.
Thanks. I'm not sure if I am getting more familiar with the camera or what but there is a definite difference with the grip and battery. The keeper rate is far higher!
Nice job with the details. I enjoyed the pictures with the birds with their fishes.
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed the images and the video.
The inlet never fails to deliver, good stuff Mark.

Love the grips. Looks like this one really makes the 850 sing,! Great pix and thanks

It sure does. Man what a difference it makes. Thanks for the compliments and for watching.

Mark, I REALLY like your commentary; it perfect with your images. Keep up the great work!
Thanks for the kind words. I'm glad you are enjoying the videos!
Amazing video with outstanding commentry. Kudos !
Thanks!
As usual, wow! Just purchased your book. Can't wait to read it.
Thank you and thank you!
What an incredible day you had, bird heaven! Such an enjoyable video and lots of information on the D850. Awesome!
Thank you! It was a very busy day! I enjoyed every minute of it!
Fabulous shots.
Thanks!
Great video...envious of those kingfisher in flight shots...well done!
Thanks!
Wow!! Another quality video Mark! Well done.
Thank you!
Great stuff again Mark! That D850 rocks - excellent detail and color.
Thanks!
You are awesome bro. Living a life and photographing like you is still my dream. Thumbs up for all your contents and videos.
Thanks so much. I am having a great time!
As usual, great vid. You seem to enjoy this as much as the group I hang around with. Good job ma man lol!
Brilliant video Mark. Fantastic detail and wonderful colours. I'm very jealous of that fantastic light you had. It seems to have been dull and wet for ages over here. Best wishes from the U.K.
Thanks so much. Yes, we are blessed with good weather in Florida. I enjoy it.
Outstanding, thank you. I really appreciate your sharing your settings on the various images.
Thank you for watching and the kind words!
Excellent improvements on your photography, and storytelling Mark !! D850 is an awesome camera !!
Thank you!
Wow those blue bottles (man-o-war) are huge! we get them here along the east coast of Australia with onshore currents and in summer we can get plagues of them that close beaches but i've never seen ones that big!
They were a little on the large side!
Wow ! Thanks, I needed the nudge for the D850. I have the 200-500mm also...
You are welcome. It is a great camera.
you are doing great with the videos. and you narrating is spot on. thanks so much for sharing with us, You said you us eto shoot with the Sigma and now the Nikon can you do a comparing video or did I miss it ? I currently use the Sigma 150 x600

Awesome as always there Mark.

Happy New Year to you Mark. You're certainly getting some awesome detail with the D850, some great light under the birds on the in-flight shots which makes me really jealous. Entertaining and informative as always mate, great work.
Thanks so much! I did get some nice light under those wings!

That shutter on the D850 is insane kicks on my nikon f4 witch does 5.7 per sec perfect on the view finder as always mark *
Thanks!

Another fantastic video! Really enjoyed the Kingfisher series, I have not been successful in getting good captures of them.
Thanks. Those Kingfishers are difficult to photograph.
Very nice Mark, buying my grip and battery next month. BTW which focus group works better for you with BIF?
Awesome stuff as usual Mark. Whats your #1 tip for getting that initial subject in the view finder and then keeping it there? Just spent the day at the Zoo with my D500 and New 200-500. Was fun but have some learning to do.

Thanks. I haven't used my D500 since I got the grip. My wife enjoys the D500 though.
I have both cameras as well. After several times in the field with the D850, I think the D500 has a little better autofocus. I'm not sure why that is.
LOL missed opportunity for a great t-shirt 4:07 zoomed and cropped!! Classic
Fantastic shots!!
Thanks!
another awesome made video,Mark
Thanks!
I repeat again. Awesome video and nice pictures.
Thanks!
Great captures and story telling. I am curious what is the weight of the system. D850 + Battery grip and 200-500 lens should be around 3 KGs?
You almost have me talked in to it. Can’t wait to get there next month
I would love to do that but I don't know any sponsors who would hand me a camera to give away. Thanks for the compliments.
@@MarkSmithphotography they are out there. Believe it or not. Might have to run a add for them for a little while. If you don't have time to. I could search around a bit for you and report back what I find. Even Nikon does it at times.
Beautiful photos. What does the Grip add in terms of capability?
Thank you. It adds an additional 2 frames per second and it is glorious!
great job again mark!!!
Thanks!
excellent videos smith

There is a setting that allows you to make the grip buttons mirror the body buttons.
Amazing shots and great video. What settings do you use with regards to focusing?
Thanks. I was using AF-C and D25 or single point.
Another great video Mark
Thanks!
Which lens did you use for all those nice and sharp images.. i am assuming I saw a zoom lens 200 to 500 was it.?
another great video buddy.. 👍🏼👍🏼
Great Video-again! Are you preferring the D25 over the group AF? On the D500, also? Thanks!
+Eli Smith On the d850 d25 covers more area and seems to grab focus a little bit faster.
Thanks and yes there are storks all over the place here!
Awesome video Mark
Thank you!
It's tough resisting the temptation to buy the d850 after seeing your shots. Id love to see some real world shots taken when the light isnt so good :) Great video and shots as ever Mark.
+strongandco It is a great camera. I haven't pushed any low light stuff yet.
Hi Mark, good vlog as usual, you are so fortunate to live where you live, is the D500 relegated to a backup body now ?
+adamaj Thanks for watching. I see you are discovering just how awesome the d500 is. It is a fantastic camera that can do a lot! Have fun with it.
WOW you had a great day!!!
I sure did. Thanks for watching.
That's a freakin' smorgasbord of avian wildlife! Good show Mark! 🙂👍
Yes it it and I had an even better day a few days after this one. That video will be next!
Hello Mark!
I'm wondering if the d500 still has any advantages over D850 since the cropped resolutions are pretty much equal. I'm thinking about selling my d500 and D810 and get a D850. Thank you and your videos are awesome.
I think it does have several great advantages. 1fps faster. Larger almost bottomless buffer are the two most important ones.
Great videos...love them. Cheers Mark
Thanks!
Great stuff Mark, what lens were you using here?
Excellent photos!!!!!what kind of selection for focus did you use with the birds?
Thanks. AF-C and I alternate between D25 and Single Point.
you have 25 points ??? WoW, I have a canon 7D mark II which I use with a tamron G2-150-600, OC I love the reach of that, but not the quick focus, I loose lots of great movements with birds, full of action... But I am afraid that I will get lost with sony menus!!!!
Dude that was awesome! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching.
Haha awesome i bought the nikon grip and 3 el 18 batteries and never used it on hi , but im greatfull for the crazily long battery life , id reccomend the battery grip n door just for that cheers Mark
Your photos and videos or really amazing... I like all your work man. A big thumbs up :)
Thanks so much. I appreciate it!
Good video!! They always inspires me
Thanks. Glad to inspire!
Since i too have the same combo, i just jump on to ur videos the moment they are uploaded, Would be more helpful, if u post the Metering and the focus mode used with the Exif
Thanks. I shoot in AF-C and use matrix metering 90% of the time. For focus points I bounce between D25, D9 and Single Point.
Freakin' Awesome Mark!
Thanks!
Your videos are amazing
Thank you!
What bay? Where? wonderful bird photos.
