Great information. I will be taking your information in pursuit of his Youn Guns Card, before I will not be able to afford one. Missed out on McDavid. However, I do get the opportunity to see him once a year when Edmonton comes to Columbus. Great Video.
I popped into the shop a couple days ago to buy a box. Im Hype for series 2. Im going to be stacking Fantilli and Leo Carlsson if they get their Young Guns this year. I think youre right about their value being surpressed early by the Bedard Hype Train. Im also keeping an eye on a few guus from the 2022 draft that had great AHL campaigns last year, Arturs Silovs for certain.
If you're in Canada, we'll probably have ours up a little closer to the release date of the product, but the product still isn't officially announced yet, so it'll be some time unfortunately :(
Assuming he debuts in October, 23-24 Series 2 is likely to be where you can find his Young Guns (generally speaking, they've been the most valuable card relative to box price and availability) and that is likely to be one of his first NHL rookie cards that you can pull directly from a pack without it being a redemption. There might be a product or two that releases before it (O-Pee-Chee is a possibility) as well, but that's to be determined! You'll also be able to get redemption cards for him in products like 2023-24 UD MVP and 2023-24 UD Artifacts that will likely release a lot earlier, but typically to get the actual physical Bedard card from those redemptions you'll be waiting until after Series 2 :)
Sorry this got caught up in RUclips's spam filter for some reason. I would generally say they'll probably decline slightly in price over time and end up near where McDavid's are assuming Bedard keeps his game at the same level, but it's so tough to tell given how crazy the hype is around him. Seeing the prices for them on eBay scared me, I can't believe they're going for the same or more than the equivalent McDavid ones haha!
Great insight. The time to save for next year products started a while ago for me lol. Im also thinking his YG will fetch $500 in the first week. PSA 10 will be $1000 easy. Looking forward to supporting Zepyhr with all my UD purchases!
if you were going to buy a case or box of something to get the Bedard, what are you going for? Thinking a case of series 2, but want to know if there are better options
Depends what you're looking for. Series 2, assuming everything goes according to plan, should have his Young Guns and that's probably the safest bet in terms of getting a valuable rookie of his. If you're looking to just get a rookie card of his, 23-24 OPC might have it and be an option as well, but again, we'll know more closer to their release dates :)
I said it to another commenter. Never buy a case searching for one card, you'll get one maybe 2 of his YGs if you're lucky. Just buy a single and save a couple thousands dollars.
@@JohnB-mo4kq Yeah, generally this is true for most products. For some people, they just like getting a case of S1/S2 to pretty much guarantee they pull that one card and to build. In the past, there were actually a lot of times where it was worth opening up cases of S1/S2 for the top end young guns because the rest of the crop was also strong, it sold well, and you used to get a YG Exclusives per case. It's rare, but there are breaking points where the average value of YGs in a case + the additional inserts work out to cover the cost, and your loss/profit is determined whether or not you hit two of the big guy. There is a chance that this will be the case with Bedard's crop, but his YG would need to be at least $650 for that to happen and there would need to be a few solid supporting cast YGs like Fantilli + Leo Carlsson
@@zephyrepic For sure. And could be the "case", if UD doesn't decide to increase the price. We're not at the all time high we saw during covid, but prices are still way too high. Just look at SPA, it's still over twice the original price of $130 per box. SPA used to be my favorite set to build, but at $300+ to pull a retro and one FWA worth $10 just isn't fun anymore lol.
TL;DR: They'll likely be lower in 5-10 years than now based off of past players with the peak being right before his cards start coming out, declining once he starts getting NHL cards, then maybe increasing in value a little bit (but not to where it was at their peak) if he's one of the best players in the league One of the comparables is McDavid, where everything outside of his really rare (#'d /10 or less) Team Canada Juniors and CHL stuff is selling for less than its peak than it was going for back before he got his Young Guns. The really rare stuff is listed for around the same, maybe slightly more, but it also started off at a lower price compared to what Bedard stuff will and it hasn't actually sold. For context, I have had a 2015 McDavid ITG jersey card /40? since before he was drafted and it's generally hovered in the $75-$100 range, but was around $125-$150 at its peak and dropped to $50-$75 until a few years ago. And that's also requiring Bedard to play at a McDavid level, which is possible, but definitely a little risk. The other comparable we have is Lafreniere, but his play in the NHL hasn't been great so it's tough to judge of that. Even still, once his Young Guns came out his CHL stuff started to slowly drop. Essentially: the safe bet, if you're looking to maximize your value, is to sell probably around draft day or around when he's making his NHL debut. It's not an exact science and things can be different because he has a much higher floor than McDavid, but that's been the general trend. The common base stuff won't be worth more than $25-$30 probably though.
He's almost guaranteed to go straight to the NHL. He can't go to Chicago's AHL team because of the NHL-CHL agreement. This means that if they did send him down, he'd have to go to the CHL (where he's currently playing) and that they wouldn't be able to call him up until his team is done in the CHL season (so around now). He's already too good for the CHL, so it's really, really unlikely he'll be sent down. It's pretty much guaranteed at this point haha
While the Q and O are different leagues, you can definitely take some comps from them given how similar they operate. Always worth looking at everything :)
He's gonna be playing In my neck of the woods West Side Chi....can't wait to see him play. I wonder how hard he'll be to find.

I pulled a clear cut rookie on CHL hobby box
Series 2 is a huge cop boys. Will def be worth a peep
Going to have to hunt him in Artifacts!!! Thanks for sharing.

Logan Cooley just signed his ELC too, so add him to the list lol
I guess some stores will differ with timing, but any idea roughly when I might be able to pre-order some 2023-24 UD S2 hobby boxes?
If you're in Canada, we'll probably have ours up a little closer to the release date of the product, but the product still isn't officially announced yet, so it'll be some time unfortunately :(
So series 2 is best bet for his rockie cards or will their be other place to find his NHl rockie cards etc before then?

I’ll be shocked if upper deck doesn’t put him in series 1!!
He’s going to start every game next year
How much do you think a gold #1 draft pick from 23/24 mvp hockey will be worth. I have the base wich is DP-1 and the gold #1draft pick wich is DP-1A

What's the expiration on the redemption ?
Looks likes December 31, 2025 based off of eBay pictures

Never buy a case trying to pull one card. Save yourself a couple thousand, and buy the single and a few boxes if you have the urge to rip packs.
Pulled a Bedard in box of Series 1
yeah! They snuck in the easter egg insert! Sick pull!
I got the gold Connor Bedard rookie card on my third box
Awesome!!! Sick pull!
I pulled his chl autograph and team Canada /165
Sick!! Congrats!
I'd rather save up enough money to get a case of 23-24 Upper Deck Series 2 or Opee Chee Platinum to start the Bedard hunting.
Oh for sure! The staple sets next year are going to be crazy (S2, SPA, OPCP, etc.)!

Good video but one thing, you used 2nd year TC cards as examples and not first year.
This was intentional as the second year cards are more readily available, so people will have an easier time finding them :)
The Question is for the YG card is White Jersey or Red Jersey.
I'd normally say red, but white might look better given the YG design this year
Upper deck should release him in series one to feed off the hype.
They tried that with Lafrenier, and his numberless YG is the ugliest ever made. No way they make that mistake again.
How do you think the Bedard numbered inserts and clear cuts from CHL will do over time?

He did not play against NHL Men yet! Relax... lots of D and 3rd liners want's a poster!
Buddy, Bedard played in the WHL… stop with the comparisons to the Q and O!
While the Q and O are different leagues, you can definitely take some comps from them given how similar they operate. Always worth looking at everything :)
Bedard is going to be phenomenal but he won’t be better than McDavid
It's definitely going to be tough to be better than McDavid, but if anyone's got a chance it's probably him
