  • How much money can you make busking in LA? / the.happy.caravan We are a family of buskers and for now it is how we pay our bills. We have tried busking in Los Angeles a number of times as we travel from San Diego to San Francisco to attend the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. We share some of our experiences as we have tried busking in LA and we share some of the best spots we have found. Love, the de la Motte Family P.S. We play Classical Music, Jazz, Sacred and Folk Music on stringed instruments mostly violin, viola, cello and string bass. Right now the kids do most of the busking on their own but soon Marc (dad) hopes to join in on percussion playing the spoons and Bodhran during the Irish Songs and Mama (Amber) wants to pick up the guitar and play with the little girls (Anna and Chloe) who are learning their own line up. Mama used to play viola with the group but the kids have gotten so good that they don't need her help with the string quartet anymore.... (I guess mama worked herself out of a job ;) )

    Music is a performing art, so busking is one of the best ways to become a great musician! The environment is no pressure (i.e. no judges, no grades) so musicians are free to enjoy their music and focus on encouraging people who pass by to enjoy it too. The ability to focus and perform despite street noise is perhaps the best training a musician can get. The serendipity of busking is refreshing too. It's wonderful to hear live music in unexpected venues. Busking is a generous sharing of music and gives those who can the opportunity to appreciate and share as well. I think you are finding creative ways to help your children become amazing musicians and experienced performers!

    When I first saw you folks in Downtown San Diego, it made my trip there...you combine the best of both worlds: great classical covers and live music! I know it's time for you folks to record your music - I know I would definitely ask Alexa to play you :)

    Such a great review! I'm not surprised when people let you play even without permits, because first of all it's about art.
    May i ask your advice? I'm planning on taking a speaker and come with the drum set to play. Can you suggest me the best areas in LA for that, I literally have no idea of that city yet. Thanks!!!

      The promenade is great but it has lots of rules. Hollywood blvd is a free for all for the most part. I’m sure there are some great spots in Santa Monica too.

    Thanks so much! I’ve been busking in Little Tokyo with success! it’s my favorite environment! I’ve made anywhere from $3-$140 there in a day.
    the time it was $3 was a crazy day, I was still new and a houseless person was dancing in front of me and then had a panic attack on a bad trip.
    Usually I make about $70 on average for about 4-5 hours of playing Japanese disco and anime OPs
    I’ll definitely check out Hollywood though! Seems like that’s the best for making money!… I wonder if my amplifier will be loud enough

    Did you keep track of how much time you were in each location? I think that makes a difference. For instance, 1 location you may make $50 for 2 hours and another location you may make $100 for an hour.

      Yes we try to keep track, but Hollywood boulevard is a zoo so we couldn't really, we mostly focused on not getting lost or dropping our instruments ;)

    Need to project your voice louder, especially over the music..
    On some parts your voice just trail off..
    Having a few of your kids on the video would be fun too..

    Who do you have to ask for permission to?

    • @TheHappyCaravan
      @TheHappyCaravan  3 года назад

      In LA you need a permit in Santa Monica, on Hollywood Blvd you just have to stay off of private property, sidewalks are ok :) 👍

    I busk and I'm thinking about moving to USA, do you know the costs of a permit?

    • @TheHappyCaravan
      @TheHappyCaravan  3 года назад

      Most places in California don’t require a permit. But other states might. In Santa Monica, California they offer a year permit for around $39.00 I think so the cost is not high.
