The only reason anyone should be afraid of questions is because they have something to hide. Asking questions shows you are curious and you care. It shows that you want to learn and understand. So anyone who is afraid or upset over questions is afraid of the answers you will find. Asking questions can only result in three things. 1 you learn 2 someone else learns 3 you both learn. So how can a question be a bad thing If it's a criminal act to question be weary of who you are questioning
This is so black and white and abelist in view. Some people have a trauma history with interrogative, controlling, psychological and physical abusers. Some have social anxiety, others have autism and other issues that do not appreciate questions. Icebreakers can be terrifying for people with social anxiety. You're being too simplistic and privileged in your viewpoint.
@@sammieboyd6348 I never said people should come right out at the start and ask things like have you been raped?, are you schizoid? or something f'd up like that. You don't ask crazy or in depth questions like that unless you've built a little foundation first. just asking light questions like how are you doing?, Are you ok? or why did god... is not usually a problem but can sometimes already begin to give you a hint. Here I was "simply" (as in without trying to go into detail and trying to point out every little oddity) stating that If there's a problem it'll likely show itself before long because you ask questions if not questions are not usually a problem. If you make someone feel like they're being interrogated that's a problem and if they seem sketched out of course you should tread carefully until you when and if you get a better understanding. I was for the record referencing "in general" with people, religious organizations, government, medical companies, charities, pharmaceutical companies etc. Of course there's going to be the odd one out who needs a little leadway or extra caution and care. But that's not generally the case. So again I was speaking in general not trying to go into detail and point out every little detail and Oddity.
@@sammieboyd6348 for the record asking questions would bring about knowledge and understanding that something like trauma with interrogation abuse etc is in the mix. Or you could refuse to ask someone who has been abused or traumatized and leave them to suffer and perhaps die alone.
@@trymeimalreadyaghost1456 that is the weirdest response and "logic" I ever heard. You clearly have no understanding, just want to argue and have not listened at all. I'm out, there is no point even attempting to continue this conversation.
Closed questions are questions which require a short answer often one word like multiple questions, Open questions allow for much longer response (knowledge, opinion ,feelings*what, why, how, tell me describe*)

Many mental health providers will use the leading questions, etc. to get you to think or believe something that you don't instead of being objective and letting the clients come up with their own truths for their lives. Use this knowledge to keep them from taking you where you don't want to go in your life. I have witnessed great harm done to clients from providers doing these manipulative techniques, especially if they are narcissistic.
Heres a really good point. Due to the fact that we can only think of identity, cause&effect, probability, space, and amount. The only possible questions can include these aspects. A nice model i lkke to follow is what how and why. What is identity. How is cause. Why is effect. When probing i attempt to ask why first and then reverse engineer the how and what. For example. I want transportation. This is done by a method of transportation. Which is cars buses and trains
I always thought why is cause. How is effect. 🤔 how is tracing effects to cause. How it happened and why it happened. He who has a why to live can bear almost any how.
I really liked the video until it got to the bit around questioning funnelling, and says start with open questions and then asks 'Have you been to any good parties recently? which is a closed question... I think he asked one open question in this section and the rest were closed. Otherwise the video was great.
Hello! Could you please turn on community captions? I'd love to use this video but we need captions, so I'm happy to add them but you'll need to switch that option on. Even better if you could add them!! :)
Great video! Thanks, I really enjoyed it. Just one remark... "What flavour do you want?" (for the icecream) is not a closed question. ;) Closed would be "would you like chocolate or vanilla?"
Not really, timtimtimtim83. In theory ice cream flavours are endless. A closed question needs a limited set of responses. No matter how many, but options need to be given. Since here are no options given, it's an open question.
The questions rather close ended for the reason of you only want one flavor. There’s a direct answer it doesn’t leave open discussion you want vanilla, strawberry, or chocolate and that’s all you can give to answer the question.
Open questions - generic questions Closed questions - specific questions Leading questions - giving options in questions to chose from Probing questions - asking to be more specific Funnelling questions - starting from generic to specific Rhetoric questions - ask obvious questions and be silent to let respondent speak
Sorry to be so offtopic but does any of you know a method to log back into an instagram account? I stupidly forgot the account password. I appreciate any help you can offer me
@Ricardo Jordy i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and Im trying it out atm. Seems to take quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
I really enjoy.this lesson. It is amazing lesson and usefull for me as a teacher.thank you. We should question our pupils using suitable question to gain more information what we are teaching and learning.
I have to disagree on the better question - better answer relationship as stated here. These can be mutually exclusive. There are a whole host of other variables to consider including for example, the person with whom you are interacting, his / her understanding of the subject/topic matter, and so on. It is not necessarily straightforward.
How did Aristotle"s rhetoric (pathos, ethos and logos) get so twisted in modern day to mean question that don't need answers ? 🤷🏽♂️ when they were initialy designed to investigate; feelings, logic and ethics of person being interviewed. 🤔
But the term rhetorical in itself does eventually get whittled down naturally to its modern meaning. This is how: Definition: asked in order to produce an effect or to make a statement rather than to elicit information. It is, just like ethos logos and pathos, a statement or question intended to manipulate or guide the person receiving the statement or question to a certain topic, feeling, or opinion. Seems like a short leap in logic, from ethos logos and pathos, in writing or speech, honestly...Seems obvious to me. *shrug*
Investigating the feelings, logic and ethics of a person OR reflecting the feelings, logic and ethics of the person SPEAKING, or writing. That perfectly fits with the notion of saying something in order to elicit a particular response, or to express a particular sort of message, and the modern meaning of "saying something to get you to think" which is what people really mean when they say a rhetorical question means you arent asking to receive an answer necessarily. You're asking to promote thought about whatever you're asking.

I see them as systems that come in pairs of 3 two pretty obvious but one it's not so obvious (cause~effect~reflection) so on and so forth...

I thought the same at first, but from their definition this is a closed question as it is answering from a 'limited set of responses'...

Jeanne Doessen That would actually be more of a leading question. Assuming the person wants either
