35 yrs doing Xingyiquan imho Xingyi isn’t Wing Chun! chi sau or sticky hands doesn’t or “whatever this is” doesn’t work against people who know how to fight. The only fight/challenge against another martial artist was against a Wing Chun practitioner. Even good Wing chun people don’t fight using sticky hands, maybe a simple trap, but nothing more. Simple footwork checks what is being displayed. If you want see real Xingyiquan is search Mike Patterson’s group (plenty of vids showing xingyiquan in full on sanda/sanshou. Or search Taikiken vs kyokushin karate. Taikiken is Japanese for YI Quan... and Yi Quan is a spin off from Xingyiquan.
Good point but It's not supposed to be a combat sport where you condition and prepare for "Rounds" of combat against a well drilled and trained fighter. My limited understanding is that Body strength, suppleness comes from training in the internal arts and in a quick self defence scenario it could work dependent on the practitioners skill. Most muggers and are bullies and they think they have a physical advantage and so they would be ill prepared for such techniques against them."Bang" and you are out of there ! That is my take on it. Self defence is a last resort,. I do however respect that you have been training for 35 years and I am a total novice, so not trying to argue with you, just would appreciate your thoughts. Thanks.
@@robatkin7580 * Every time you see someone in internal arts doing the school playground "patty cake dance" look away... just ask yourself what would happened if someone forcefully shuffled left, right or backward (disengaging) and started throwing fist. It all breaks down. (which is why these guys are getting their asses kicked on the internet) Actual Xingyiquan is very similar to western boxing in practical approach. Yes, the footwork is different, the combinations/tactics are different, but the approach is very similar. There is a lot of garbage on the internet when it comes to Xingyiquan. Stems from several factors. Someone learn a portion of it and attached it to another art (say Bagua or taij) or they learned it out of a book and have little or no practical experience. Yes... Self defense is a last resort. (I always remember that... So much of modern martial arts are BS when it comes to true violence) The factor you have to understand.. is that bullies, thugs, etc..(I'm talking adult's, grown men etc) are well experienced when it comes to violence. Why would the try to assault someone if the did think the outcome is going to be in their favor. Second,
Great Video!
Really nice!!! I wish I was located near you guys!
I like this art
.
is this system completely based on five elements or does he practice animal forms as well?
Apparently, he has some animal forms, as he's uploaded a video or two about animal stuff.
.
@@DG-oo8zf , ah ok thank you, i'll have a look
There are 12 animals. Not really separate styles but just a few movements that expand upon 5 element theory.
.
@@arbogast4950 i know :)
Sometimes I know i have something to me and my hands are special. But mostly my life feels like a dream because of my memory issues.
An advanced practitioner of the Five Elements is tough to beat.
I Will like to know how Xing yi was introduces in to Wu dang Martial arts..........
Master Sun Lutang used to exchange with Wudang Sword skills.
