Interesting video! I have a lake not so far from you Mark. The cormorants are not an issue overhere, but 2 years ago an otter arrived on the property and I lost quite a few big carp. I noticed that the otter population is increasing the last couple of years in France. I hope your lake is fenced off... I solved my otterproblem with electric fencing. Best regards, Robert

@@whiteblackbird8494 Hi Robert, yes I lost a good fish last winter at the fish farm (upper 20) to otter predation. I keep an eye out everyday for them coming onto the lake again, but I have not seen anymore signs.
I believe the male Otter has a huge range and although I stayed on site after loosing the fish last year to see the culprit it never showed its face again. Good luck on your lake I would be interested to see how you have otter proofed it. The DDT told me I was not able to fence the property as I was not allowed to disrupt the passage of the otter 🤷🤯🤬

      @@FensmereFishFarmandCarpLake Hi Mark,
The male otters have indeed a large area in which they live. One day they are at your lake and the next they move somewhere else, 10 km further. But they always seem to come back once they find easy access to lots of fish... You see these animals rarely as they are nocturnal and you don't find all the victims. Lots of fish are eaten in the water and the remains sink to the bottom of the lake. Only when they catch a bigger fish they tend to eat them somewehere on the bank, leaving behind the remains. Sometimes they only eat the parts they like most...Yes the DDT don't want to see closed off properties anymore. The wild animals have to migrate in and out as much as they like. Crazy! If I can have your email address I'll send you some pictures of my electric fencing. Best regards Robert

It's great to see you spending time to work every thing out it a massive learning curve. The joy of fishing is the journey. Not just rock up and cock up.
