- Finland says it will close all but one of its border crossings with Russia amid a surge in asylum seekers. The decision comes after it shut several others last week. Helsinki is accusing Moscow of funneling people to its borders. Russia denies the claim.

Well, you know it’s 100% true because Russia officially denied it
On top of the traffickers openly saying they have contracts with russian officials. :P
even if thats true, Finland has an obligation to process all asylum seekers under international law...
it also violates their UN requirements....
Finland should face economic sanctions or be kicked from the UN until it follows the rules.

The unofficial plan from the Russian government might be to intentionally get their neighbors to close most borders. When the next wave of forced military conscription comes (after their upcoming election), there are less opportunities for Russian men to flee the country - while the Russian government avoids spending their own military to close border crossings.
that makes .. zero sense. Western governments have a massive track record of doing nothing but lying to their populace. it's all they've ever done.

The disparity in reporting this issue on the Finnish border vs the reporting of the exact same issue in Poland or Lithuania near the Belarussian border is shocking. Surely, with their Axis allies.
Soviets didn't care about Finland, they were just worried about the Germans that were present in Finland. Their "Finnish values" were not under attack, the USSR were just worried about their safety as the threat was building up on their borders. Funny how Finns have been paranoid that Russia is "acting aggressively for some reason towards them", while constantly seeking alliance with anyone who is waging war against Russia.

What a disgraced country Russia became
The same situation as in Poland, Latvia and Lithuania
Since Russia does not play the game close all the border crossings. Russia claims it is a safe state so it is up to them to look after migraines.
The only reason Russia can play that game at all is because Finland is allowing it to be played. Keeping on of them open is make Russia continue to play the game with them

Thr people trying to cross are legaly or illegaly asylum seekers in Russia. They should be protected and cared for by the russian governent. Thr borders shoudl remain closed. If they want to get to the EU they should use other legal channels

Finland is able to process asylum seekers at the border, and the UK isn't? Interesting. Before you say that the English Channel means that the UK border is quite far from France: there's a UK border at the French side of channel crossings (Eurostar, ferry ports), so it's not unheard of. The UK could process asylum requests in Calais, and I don't think the French would have much against it.
So when this happens in Finland it's hybride warfare, but when Baltics and Poland faced the same for several months we were called inhumane for pushing them back. Double standards much?
They would not stay in Finland, like we already have a housing problem even if some say we don't have one because they love it when the rents are sky high. Like if I compare the free appartments form 20 years back to know some cities/towns have 0 available and you can maybe find one on the private market but those are always problematic when the owner can have crazy rules(1/3 rented on the private market was perfect, like he even offered me a job during the summer when I wasn't able to find one in that town and most of it went back to him as rent).

Russian doctrine in Ukraine right now seems to be minefields. Huge minefields and defence works. A lot of the early war goals have been abandoned, Russia is most likely not going to collapse the ukrainian state. Instead they want to hold on to territory they got.

From Greece: Hey, I've seen this one before! It's a classic!
Greece made me doubt the Dublin convention. I wanted to see how Frontex would be able to handle the next war.
@@SusCalvin I've been to MEP (Model European Parliament) before, and let me tell you: the general attitude is (or was ~6 years ago) very country first, everyone else be damned. On the topic of unified self defense for example, people from central countries were adamantly against unified defense policies, because: "Not my problem". They don't have to deal with erdogan's (or Putin's) foreign "policy" after all. That's someone else's problem.
Now I seriously doubt that attitude would persist in the event of actual war, but that attitude of "not my problem" and reactionary populist policies isn't gonna end well for us. It's really hard to get votes for long term benefits over short term "solutions" after all.
I am sorry to say this but good European countries have to protect themselves from immigrants. It’s not only Finland.
