- Sylvia Miles was a fond friend to Nelson Sullivan. Nelson enjoyed Sylvia's company very much, and they enjoyed many activities together. Sylvia was a native New Yorker who taught Nelson a lot about the City as they strolled the streets on the way from one fabulous party to another. In 1985, Sylvia had just purchase a getaway in Woodstock, and Nelson rode along with Rolling Stone Senior Editor and his wife Rhonda Granger on a trip to stay in Sylvia's new house and also to see Sylvia perform in a summer stock production in Woodstock. This video is about driving Sylvia to the Woodstock Summer Theater and the adventure they had along the way. This tape was edited by Nelson Sullivan from the video he recorded during his visit with Sylvia on July 14, 1984.

Sylvia reminds me of my aunts in New York, I don’t know if it’s just an older New Yorker thing, but she is very much like this. I love it, though. She cracks me up. We walk down any street of the city, and because she’s a real-estate agent, she can tell me a hundred forgettable things about the buildings and the cobblestones, the Victorian boot scrapers, etc. She has this crass delivery, but I know she’s all love. Plus, like Nelson, I’m not afraid to dish it back.
As someone who hate talking I appreciate people like her cause I basically just have to listen. Smile and nod lol

So glad Nelson didn't listen to sylvia lol. I love these videos and even though sylvia was insane she seems awesome! Reminds me of my mom, she has been gone since 2014, wish I had the foresight to record her like Nelson did with his adventures in life.

@@wantsomecoffee Her sense of fashion was always eclectic long before Madonna entered the scene. Sylvia was a icon in the counter culture era thanks to her association with Andy Warhol and starring in his movie "Heat" alongside another counter culture icon Joe Dallesandro.
Now Madonna is copying Sylvia in her later years.
It's probably the wrong way around. Madonna's look was co-opted from the streets of NYC - everyone was dressing like this - shopping at Trash and Vaudeville, Antique Boutique, Unique, etc. I mean Madonna wore an exaggerated version of what everyone was wearing.

I could not be around this woman. She doesn't talk to people she belches out orders. She'd make a good drill sergeant in the military would get out of the car and hitch a cab. She is all upset because Nelson has a camera but can't understand that he is recording the instructions she is giving him and has it on camera. She thinks that everyone there is interested in everything she is showing them. Who is this, Sylvia Miles? I never heard of her before. My sister was like her. She bought a place out in Arizona in the middle nowhere. Nice place but I could not live that far away from civilization. She was up in the woods. Not a store in sight. Lots of deers.
