I think people seem to miss that Mei might also commit the assaults b/c of the assault she experienced from her teacher/fiancé . The first time she kissed yu it was to “show her what she experienced,” which was assault. She was frustrated with Yu’s insinuations about her enjoying the kiss. Pink hair issue is that she has no one looking out for her with the exception of Yu. They mention that her parents are never around and she is having a bunch of inappropriate interactions with adult men. She’s a victim who is hurting and it kinda makes sense that she engaged in inappropriate forms of affection and hurts her loved ones. Mei at least had her grandfather and at one point was close with her father. Curly girl was just afraid of being replaced. I honestly question if she actually romantically likes Mei or if it’s just b/c of the environment she is in like the other school girls who are dating cuz that’s what they have access to. I do wish they could have had like therapist or adult talk with these girls about their inappropriate actions. However, I guess I kinda get why it all happens, especially since they are teens and that’s an age group that may not always make the best decisions.
I mean, yes, but the manga does a better work at showing this while the anime gives extra screen time to the problematic bits compared to the sweet parts wich are barely there.
I've actually recently started the manga and have come to realize the same thing! I'm still glad that Citrus was given the opportunity to be animated into an anime. It surely does give the in-depth details into perspective for the people to be able to see.
I feel like the lack of the idea of love is correlates with the lack of episodes, because as we go further on with the manga, that's when we can really feel the romance between those two. For people who just finished watching the anime, I suggest you all to read the manga.
@@Juhnime I'm just here to say in one of your comments from 2 years ago you say "I've actually recently started the manga and have come to realize the same thing" But then i read this comment and i see conflicting comments. Anyways this isn't important. Have a good day
@@BurgerManTTV I have read the manga, but I don't consider reading anything below half of the total chapters to "reading" it (just my standards). I do see, though, the comments are conflicting. I meant to convey the message differently, but just been too busy catching up with life. I most likely said that as a quick response. Thanks for the heads up though! I appreciate it!
@@Juhnime Yeah your right though, reading below half doesn't mean you have actually read it. But it was just a pointless comment though, just thought it was funny
about the assault scene i'd like to say something. In that first episode there's actually 2 assaults: first from the teacher to mei, and then from mei to yuzu. The first one made me pause the video because i though "alright... that's a form of rape", the second one didn't seem so out of place for me maybe because i took it as a victim (mei) replicating an abuse she'd suffered, not trying to justify it, but that's something already proved in criminology. And in the next episodes it becames clear that mei is, like she said, twisted, but I say she's emocionally inept: she started kissing yuzu (trying to shut her up) because she tends to point out some painful truths that mei has tried to endure (the abuse from her fiance, the feeling of abandonment, the preasure to fullfil her grandfather spectation). I find her transformation arc so much interesting
Wait what? Are you saying that those two assaults are different? I think there both bad and have the same severity. You can’t excuse the assault only because Mei got assaulted.
As someone who identifies as lesbian & has experienced s/a this anime is so demonized. I don’t think anyone really focuses on the relationship part of this, the push & pull in their relationship is extremely enticing and I bawled my eyes out when Mei held the bear up to Yuzu’s lips. I wish people saw this anime the way I did, As someone who heavily relates to both Mei & Yuzu. I’ve never been so obsessed with an anime before, every other one i’ve seen is just boring to put it straight. I may be biased considering the fact this anime is strangely accurate to my first love, she was extremely similar to Mei personality wise, This felt like I was watching back a part of my life. I think this anime is extremely romantic and it left such a warm feeling in my chest but, the only part I do find a little bit questionable is the fact they are step-sisters. (If they were blood related I wouldn’t feel the same way I do LOL) I’m glad to know there are other lesbian’s in this comment section that understand this anime & i’m thankful for this commentary for shedding some light to this poorly viewed Yuri.
As another lesbian who feels literally the same exact way I find this comment relieving despite the way people view it, it's "flaws" there's just something about the anime and the manga that just brings this feeling to my heart that can't be replaced I felt utterly alone in this and like I can't really talk about the show with anybody so the fact that other people feel this way brings me relief
Citrus is very complicated and I've yet to come terms with its execution, yet I totally get your point. I think this video and your words really lay down the reasoning of this story and I really admire that. This was my first yuri anime and it does hold a special place in my heart.
Absolutely agree. It's so frustrating when people say "It romanticizes assault!" Jesus they miss the entire point. Mei is absolutely neglected and can't function as a normal person. Hell, even Yuzu grew up without a father. There's so much about these characters. Yes the manga and anime are flawed, the side characters besides Harumin are trashy, but this story Is so much better than people usually say. I love Citrus and i highly recommend reading the manga and get to Citrus+, It gets so, so much better. 💓
Girl who likes girls here, and I always rejected this anime since I thought it was another "Oh it's just for men to watch and fetishize wlw" but I've kind of tried to see past it and I really fell inlove with it. Also was estatic by the fact the author was a female and not another "written by a man for a man"
Yes! I actually also noticed that was surprised/excited to see how the ideals would be portrayed if the author was of the same gender! I forgot to point that out in the video but thank you for the reminder! (:
Thank you so much for putting it into words!! I watched citrus when I was younger and absolutely fell in love with the characters. As I got older, I realised how problematic the anime was, and was disappointed with how certain themes were presented. I was so disappointed that others couldn’t enjoy the show because it was ruined for them by the assault, etc, and I won’t argue with them because they’re right. I truly believe the creators of the anime could’ve done better, but I love the characters dearly and this continues to be my favourite anime!
Hey! (: As mentioned throughout the video, it was quite unfortunate how certain things were portrayed, but in the end, if you were able to see beyond the things presented on the screen, I’m sure this anime series was very good for you. Thank you for your wonderful comment! 😊
Criticizing an anime because the characters sexually assault each other is like if I criticized any movie for violence because they kill people in it. It’s just dumb.
@@vincevvn But when you shine light on these problematic scenes and expect the character to be likeable afterwards it just doesn't work, violence in other media works because the character in question that's performing said act of violence is already going to have that as one of their character traits, while with Citrus one of the MAIN characters basically SA's her step sister while never before having the slightest sign of sexual violence being one of her character traits; the problem is that the show tries to redeem her even though rape especially to your own sister is never okay, it just feels really uncomfortable and unwarranted, it's like it was only added to please the Yuri fanatics.
Thank you for this video. It was nice to hear your take on the series. I will start by saying that I understand the issues that people may have with this series. But, I also feel like we shouldn’t automatically discredit something because it may include some problematic elements. For me, I will always have a special place in my heart for this series. Watching Mei struggle in the first half of the series with the fact that her father left her hit me very close to home. In fact, I am almost thirty years old, and in all my years of reading books, watching movies/TV, and playing games, this was the first time that a character got to me THAT much. I’m so glad that in my opinion/experience, they were able to portray Mei’s struggle with her father so well. Other than that, I went on to read the manga after I started the anime, and I love the character development that is seen in the manga now. It is just too bad that the anime series may never get a season two. But, who knows - weirder things have happened.
Hey! It’s always eye-opening to hear about other people’s perceptions when it comes to ideals/beliefs/opinions regarding their personal connection with films (whether it be anime or not). I’m very glad to see that you’ve made that relative connection and would like to just say thank you for sharing that view of yours with me. (:
Personally, I prefer the manga. Sure, it has its flaws. The writing may not be god-tier, Mei might be a little messed up, and yes it is a bit weird almost every main character is a lesbian with sister-issues... However, I must give credit where credit is due. And the manga has 2 moments that to me stand out as absolutely goated. (Obviously, manga spoilers down here!!) One is where Yuzu meets up with her old classmates, finds out they're homophobic, and gets depressed about her relationship with Mei. Mei then tells Yuzu that with everything, there'll be people who'll agree and disagree with you, so there isn't a 'right' answer. Instead, people should do what they want to do. That moment was so powerful, 10/10 right there imo. The other moment (or rather chapter) is when Mei is dragged into an arranged marriage by her grandfather, so she leaves a goodbye-letter for Yuzu. The entire chapter is basically the long, emotional letter being shown to the reader bit by bit, as we see Yuzu and the other main characters going about their everyday lives, not yet realizing Mei has left. It's chapters like this that really show how much love and effort the creator puts in the manga.
I haven’t had the time to personally explore the manga for this series, but I think there’s a lot that I’m missing out on! I’ll definitely check it out soon! (:
Indeed anyone can be mislead by the adaptation of anime but the only reason I read Citrus because I had alot of questions and what will happen next with the characters and I have to say the manga explore alot things and we got answers as well , I wish people also read it's manga then they also discovered it's beauty
back when i was first discovering my bisexuality i met a lot of girls like mei. Not to the extent of assault, but I feel like citrus closely resembles that feeling of confusion back in the beginning when i wasn’t so sure.
Honestly, I love this anime for a couple of reasons, First, it is really relatable to my IRL self, I am a guy and actually likes girls since childhood, I was very very lonely so when I grow up and entered primary and high school, I had lots of crushes but however because I don't look good and I have no experience with people, most of them doesn't pay much attention to me, I confessed 3 times in the span of 11 years + 1 year(Thanks to Covid), none accepted. There was a time during the lockdown I had time to spend by myself and time to think about life, slowly I understood what love was like, it's not about who you choose, its about who chooses you. Though I am a straight guy, I had feelings towards my best friend which is also the same gender. The reason is that around a year ago, I was going though my own dark ages. I won't say I am depressed rather a bit anxious about my future, he was the only friend that know about my problems and helped me through them, hence I fell for him. Second, the story is not written in a way that everyone can understand what it is trying to tell us right away. I am a person that loves to think about the very little things in life no matter the relevance, even I need some time to take in what this anime is trying to tell me but when I understood it, it reminded me of my past. The me that was still desperate for a relationship even though I don't have any experience nor know how it is supposed to work. It bought me a sense of nostalgia, though filled with pain and anguish it was my past that constructed my present. Third, it is a slice of life anime, what's not to love about this genre? I really hope to see a second and third season for this anime, a slice of life OVA that talks about Yuzu and Mei's life will also be nice.
I'm really glad you posted this on Reddit! In research for a video on Classroom of the Elite, I've been looking at Citrus' soundtrack and remembered when in my very early days of watching anime I dropped it within one episode. This video has given me a new perspective and perhaps persuaded me to give it another shot so thank you very much and keep up the great work :)
Thank you! I’m glad that I was able to potentially provide you my perspective of the film!! I also have a Classroom of the Elite video in progress and will most likely have that completed soon!! (: Stay tuned if you’d like to hear my say on that hehe!
Sexual Assaults are important or even central to the plot line in Citrus. Mei's first fiancee Amamiya no doubt raped her before. When Mei offers sex to Yuzu and says "I will be gentle with you", if you think that anyone who says that line is a virgin I have a bridge to sell you. Yuzu refused to have sex with her because it was insulting, also she feels the motive of Mei's offer is wrong, this is even though Yuzu was the one who lusts after Mei in the very beginning. Japan has a strange loophole concerning adults having sex with minors, as long as they are engaged it is OK. Hence, the need for engagement contract (you will encounter that towards at the end of the manga). Mei really has no clue about sex other than using it as a manipulate tool both as a reward and a punishment, but always a weapon. She considered whatever done to her by Amamiya is nothing other than a business deal. she MUST marry Amamiya without her own consent. Hence her telling Yuzu "I will be gentle with you", is that chilling. I will not be surprised if that line was used on her by Amamiya.
That’s very interesting. I’ve always wondered how Japan centralized their view upon the aspect of having to conduct the deed. Portrayed through many different Animes though, it definitely depends on what the show is revolved around. But what you said, I never knew about and it is quite interesting.
As someone who doesn't like Citrus I think your video has a solid point. While it is true that the sexual assault aspects are unnessasary and I think personally is the main reason people are thrown off by it (and maybe the fact they're step-sibilings) the development in the show and from the characters is really good and I personally think would be the only reason to watch it.
Ik this is probably late but thank you for making this video!! This anime has a special place in my heart and is one of my first yuri anime/the only manga i have read in its entirety (excluding citrus+ since its still ongoing) so i might be biased Also since a lot of people seem to really dislike the anime, its kinda hard to look for people that like the manga too. If i look for some video analysis of the series, i mostly get "reasons why its bad videos" so this video is such a refresher Im looking forward to future plots of the series and how yuzu and mei navigate them as well as our beloved side characters (harumin best girl). They have grown so much from the start of the manga to the more recent chapters
I completely agree with you! This is exactly WHY i love citrus so much, i see past the assault and unnecessary things added at the start of the show. But when you continue to watch it or read the manga, it seriously has something about it thats so relatable, and it just gets even better in the manga. This show will always be one of my favorites even though i know its lacking lots in certain areas the rest of the anime is so powerful to me it takes over. I love this video so much!! Also Sara gave a great message and they really do put a lot of thought into their characters. This show has such a impact on me I love it so muchhh, and this video makes me relize even more, because all the hate the anime gets for all the assault and other reasons, are true but they don't see past it. The show is far from perfect but it has something about it that makes me love it so much 👐💕
Your words are amazingly said! I love the way how you looked beyond what’s being shown on screen and for you to be able to comprehend and reflect on that is very inspiring! Thank you so much! (‘:
I love the anime, but I can understand the issues people had with it: the SA. Which the anime dialed up to really make it...yeah. Ultimately others point it out and eventually the subtext in the manga does make it clear: Mei is a closed and broken person, and eventually it is Yuzu who manages to get her to open up. And I'm sad we might never get to actually see that on the TV again. The manga was hectic and frustrating (in a good way) and the ending...just made me so happy. And I'm sad I don't get to see it all in motion q.q
There's something memorable about this anime. Like it's not as entertaining a Yuri as Sakura trick or as deep or complex as Bloom into you(and not nearly as much as an interesting horny dumpsterfire like Valkyrie Overdrive) bit I can't seem to forget it. Citrus sticks in the back of my mind, idk maybe I'll rewatch it
If you enjoyed this video, you might enjoy this Yuri anime analysis I did on *Bloom Into You*! It's a more emotional/deeper-analyzed video essay, so please give it a watch! It's one of my more prime videos as well! (: *Bloom Into You - What Makes You, You?* ruclips.net/video/3pSKW_S4GDc/видео.html
I could c u gave this anime praise However I might c u r ONE MORE BUSTER PERSON as well Inside motive u wanted to tell this anime’s not as bad as persons think sounds LEARN SOMETHING AT LEAST U SHOULD LEARN THIS ANIME’S NAUGHT BAD
THIS ANIME’S NOT SHOW ANY FORCED ROMANCE OR AFFECTION ANYHOW BUSTER THIS THING U WANTED TO TELL IS SOMETHING U MUST AGREE IS VISIBLY WRONG IS SOMETHING MAYHAP PLENTY FOOLS WITH ARTS THINGS WEAKLY TASTES DO WILL TO TELL
If you haven't already I strongly suggest reading the manga because there is literally no sa after like chapter 20 and they get engaged and have consent and what not also they grow alot in maturity and develop quite nicely
I cant believe people hate this anime! It was a great watch and it really hit home with me, If you see my comment I suggest watching this anime right away!
To the guy saying there isn't any progress, go read the manga because they progress very much and go on to get married or engaged one of the two, and its so cute near the middle and end ofthe manga because they start dating and they have consent which is lovely
You did a wonderful job breaking down the show! I can agree with all the points made, and as someone who thoroughly enjoys the show, people also tend to misunderstand the show entirely. Mei & Yuzu both can’t express love properly given they both never really felt it, and it may be poorly executed, but the fact their relationship slowly develops into something more healthy is satisfying in the end. Thank you for making this video! 👍
Where could i find this show? Ive been inlove with this.. and i searched on youtube, google etc.. and i finished all the 1-12 episodes if there is more i would love to know and where could i find the full show cuz ive watched it on youtube- and when ive seen the last episode ive seen mei the black haired girl i guess she leaved. I dont really know cuz i didnt really understood, and ive seen people making videos of her and mei getting marrie, ive seen that they started dating, ive seen that she has a husband(mei) and i saw they broke up for her husband or boyfriend,i was heartbroken when i was that, that was the last episode(12) and i really wanted to finish the episodes.. cuz i saw on google that there may be not new episodes and thanks for the video really helped me alot:).. Or anyone else ycould tell me.
I'll be honest, the first episode TOTALLY turned me off... The biggest red flag was that they. are. sisters. No, "they're not blood related" does not make this relationship any better. Mei's assaults on Yuzu also really turned me off, i agree and can somewhat understand that mei was not raised normally at all and that is the explanation for her actions, but it doesn't excuse her at all. Yuzu thinking she loves her sister because she gets kissed by her is also just so, so strange to me... Citrus according to me, mostly gives a very bad name to girl's love shows, but the character development was good to see and I think that is the sole saving grace of this show. This is just my opinion so if you don't agree please don't attack me
The character development in the manga is decent but I wonder what was going through the authors head when deciding to add a SA scene knowing that it's completely irredeemable (obviously no offense to them though) Tbh, if this was a romance between a hetero couple and the guy straight up just SA's the girl several times people would have extremely different reactions than Citrus fans do when Mei does it to Yuzu, which I find a little hypocritical; if rape in other types of media can't be justified why is it suddenly okay when the lesbian couple does it? It's so stupid when they go, "she was abused, that's why!" Because that doesn't justify anything of what Mei did, it's simply the reason why she did it.
I call bullshit on the sisters bit. I would agree on the fact they are sisters if they were either blood related, OR if they grew up together. When Yuzu first meets Mei, she doesn't even know they are step-sisters. I could totally see how any romantic feelings could develop and override the "sisterhood" feelings she is instead supposed to feel, because you don't suddenly starts to consider someone as part of your family just because you are supposed to; that feeling of family develops over a long time. If one of my parents remarried, I wouldn't suddenly feel that the kid of my step-parent my sibling, because we don't even know each other and we grew up in different households. And I think most people would feel similarly. Regarding the SA, it's frequent for victims of SA to reenact the abuse they have suffered, as another user in this comment section pointed out. Mei, a minor and student, was seen kissing her teacher, a grown-ass adult and teacher of that school, which can be seen as a form of abuse and is extremely problematic given the power imbalances at play. I am not saying this to justify Mei's actions, it was still not okay to force herself on Yuzu, I am just pointing out a common behaviour in victims of abuse, who can often also become the abuser in some instances. In that sense, the anime depicts something extremely real and common
i don't want to write so much but i wanna say that its my first yuri anime then i started to watch yuri genre and It'll always be my fav yuri no matter what.
I couldn't have said it better. Thank you! This is amazing and has an accurate summary, I was thinking the same thing but couldn't find the words, lol I'm from citrus reddit :D
I am tired of all the bad rep this anime receives. Once and for all, YUZU AND MEI ARE NOT SISTERS. Let alone the fact that they are not blood-related, I would consider them siblings if they grew up together and in that case I would find their relationship quite problematic. But they didn't even grew up together, they are strangers in the first episode. They are sisters as much as Yuzu and Harumin are sisters lol so please cut the bullshit
It's a highly controversial topic when it comes to beliefs/morals. At the end of the day, the reputation that the anime gets is highly based on the cultural beliefs that everyone has. If everyone believed in the same thing and had morals that aligned 100% without any present errors, the world wouldn't be the way it is right now. However, in our reality, things are different. It's all about the opinion and whether you respect that opinion or not is completely up to you. (: I prefer to take a neutral stance on all this to avoid any negativity being spread via the common Internet arguments, but yes, factually everything you stated is correct.
Thank you for explaining it. This analysis makes me think the anime would've worked better as an anime aimed at family dynamics and sisterhood. The yuri aspect would've worked better in another anime.
my first yuri anime and my forever fav its the best thing ive ever seen, the meaning is very deep at first then its just wholesome moments after they start dating :D
This is one of those anime I don’t even remember how I discovered but got hooked on it and rewatch it occasionally. I actually think it isn’t horrible and it’s kinda a comfort show obviously the SA scenes were unnecessary but I do see how mei kisses Yuzu to explain to her what the teacher SA her was like. But also there are many other scenes of mei putting herself on yuzu and confusing her. Still I do like to rewatch it cause I like it ofc I do see how others don’t, Ty for letting me share my opinion if you read this though and I am a wlw myself so of course I try to find anime involving it.
Reading the full manga to get the full story will make people make more sense of it, most people reduce the story to only what was shown in the anime and it's far from complete as it only covers a fraction of the full story.
This is an great video but it lacks character. It's missing the something that I can't think of. But I think it's personality. Just keep making more videos and at some point you will create your own style. Keep up the great work.
Hello! Thank you for your feedback!! I’ll make sure to incorporate more character into my videos!! But usually when I make my videos, I try to put an emotional mood into it, but this one was unique. A good example is my “Bloom Into You.” That’s why I tend to aim for. But for sure, I’ll keep that in mind. (:
I can't say how it is in the manga, but the anime feels like it's spinning its wheels. There's a complete character arc all the way up to Christmas, then... reset. Characters reset to their factory settings, the same character arcs are repeated, new characters are introduced who serve the same roles as previous characters and the entire story loops AGAIN. Yes, there's some development to be had, for sure, but that could have been handled in one or two episodes - not a full arc. Yes, I get it. People are complicated and teenagers more so. I used to be one. But past a certain point, we go from believable complexity to jerking the audience around. Look at the comments on something like Crunchyroll and that's exactly what you'll find. "I'm so confused." "Just kiss already." "This anime keeps going in circles." And it does. It's a good story, fundamentally, but badly told - in my opinion, at least.
@@Juhnime Sure, that's true in the abstract. However, it's so abstract as to carry little actionable information. If everything is flawed, then that tells us nothing. The issues with Citrus' script are far more concrete than that. You can literally cut the series in half, skip most of the latter episodes and end up with a nearly identical arc - which is actually decently good. This feels like a direct result of manga serialisation. Chapters are created in isolation without a plotline carved in stone, so the narrative can't help but meander. This is something the anime should have improved upon during the adaptation process. Take a similar example - Tomo-chan is a Girl. It's drawn from similarly serialised short-form manga and has a lot of the same issues. However, the anime does a lot of work to unify the anecdotes and hammer them into what feels like a continuous experience. Citrus doesn't do that. Superficially, events are presented as a continuous plot, but the underlying events don't comport with each other very well. I guess my point here is that these are fixable issues. More specifically, issues which should have been fixed during adaptation. Everything is flawed, but not all flaws are created equal.
I see where you're coming from with that. I appreciate the share of words! Seems like there's a bit more research that I need to conduct soon enough to understand more of the idea that "not all flaws are created equal" because it feels like there's so much to be said with that statement. It's actually quite interesting. (:@@Malidictus
Just finished the show, and frankly I hated it. I hope the manga was better, because all the show displayed, in my eyes, was a wildly toxic relationship. They brush off the MULTIPLE SA's throughout this show with barely a second thought to them. The topic of SA and how it affects people is important to discuss and should be in shows, but citrus absolutely dropped the ball. Idk, just my opinion I guess, but this show just doesn't sit right with me.
I can definitely see where you’re coming from. Especially because of how sensitive the topic regarding SA could be. Sometimes I wonder if a film can openly show and allow that because it might portray and encourage something that shouldn’t be encouraged to the younger audience. But again, definitely can see where you’re standpoint is.
@@Juhnime I think it can be shown, but it's definitely very sensitive and needs to be handled carefully, which I think citrus failed to do :/ which is a shame, because there were a few genuinely sweet moments mixed in there.
I’m very new to yuri animes so I’m not sure what I could be recommending! But if you’re into romance, I feel like animes such as Higehiro, A Day Before Us, Adachi to Shimamura, or Golden Time!
Here from reddit !, i believe citrus is the best yuri anime. Bloom into you comes 2nd, it is more emotional ,realistic and grounded than citrus however realism doesn't equate to greatness of an art. No character in bloom into you can match mei's depth, unfortunately it is not explored much in the anime. Bloom into you's main character are lacklustre as compared to citrus.
Hey! I do believe that both films have their fair share, but in terms of character development, I also do think that Mei’s complications are a lot more realistic. As much as fiction plays a role in this anime show, you can never go wrong with learning the emotional depths that each character struggles with both internally and externally. Perspective is key when it comes to catching the audience’s attention. Citrus does a great job showing us progress through individual character developments.
Putting Yuri aside , sisters as lovers like really? What's wrong with Japan . Do you know there are a lot of rape and assault cases of daughter xfather , sis x sis , brother x sis ? There is a reason why !. There are some boundaries humans must not pass to stay human ., Otherwise there is no difference between us and the animals who even mate with theirs family. Plus it ain't healthy for such relationship to exist. I'm not unhappy with my life the one that are unhappy are the one who do such behavior, they might say they are happy but not
Hmm.. If anything, Anime definitely prioritizes fantasy/fictional storylines rather than non-fictional aspects of life. I, myself, am a Korean-American and so I don't really know much about the realistic sceneries of Japan nor do I understand the culture very well. Honestly speaking, it doesn't seem as normal (some of the examples that you've described), but again, I definitely don't stand the line for a right/accurate response. I apologize ):
That’s a moronic take. They were just complete strangers until their parents decided to get in a relationship with each other. That literally has absolutely nothing to do with their relationship with each other. If they never knew their parents got together what the hell would that change? They are just two girls who slowly fell in love with each other. Who gives a fuck what their mom and dad did?
Just watched it was a good anime had me a little sad in some parts which aint easy lol also there is weird parts but those parts do feel like they could happen its not ur typical sus anime moment kind of wish there was more seasons
I disagree with the better than people think. Not regarding the anime, but because it doesn t make ‚sense‘. What good and not is an opinion, so it can t be better or worse than an opinion. Because it depends on what you focus on, for some people (me included) the flaws in the anime are enough to make it bad, but I don t think that it s the worst because it does have some plot
I personally do not agree with you and I feel anyone who isn’t sapphic honestly shouldn’t have input. Citrus is just really poorly written and terrible rep for wlw/nmlnm. None of the topics that should be spoken abt are brought up and if they are. Instead of it pushing them away from one another it pushes them closer. Like the fact one assaulted the other should push the other away not closer and it’s not like it’s brought up as an assault. The other literally starts to think they developed feelings for the other after the assault. There’s nothing more to understand from citrus. Citrus could’ve had potential if it explored the themes it had properly but it didn’t.
I think the input aspect of it from different views is what makes something a relative topic. If solely sapphic humans were the only ones giving input about the film, then there isn't a justification due to the strict bias that comes from it. I think it's important to have different people talk about different things, rather than having a relative group explicitly talking about it. But again, I do have to agree with you when it comes to the themes and topics of the film, itself. When an idea or topic is brought up, it seems more like the authors are pushing them away, rather than tying them back together. Citrus definitely could have had more potential than what it has become, but again, that's just me. (:
It’s cool that you see more in this show….but, to me at least, Citrus is a microcosm of the weird and frankly gross fetishization of same sex relationships in anime before 2016….which is saying something since this anime came out in 2018.
Stories are meant to be interpreted differently and it's totally fine to have a different view or value. The way I view it may not directly align to what you think, but it definitely is great to see how the same show can reflect different/various morals from others.
It's nice to see everyone that either love or dislike citrus express the feeling about the anime in the comment!❤️🪙 Hopefully Anime Fans can Give this anime a second Chance!!👍🕳️
I really loved this anime and I think you got some stuff right but you kind of missed a lot about what made the anime great and relatable. All the emotion was incredibly realistic
One of the primary reasons as to why I might have missed some of that is because I didn’t necessarily see that the Anime was great nor was it relatable. ): But please do share about your perspective because I’d love to know! (:

@@Juhnime Absolutely, I think it was great for the yuri genre as a whole that there was any animation at all!
I hope you enjoy the manga too!

I feel like the lack of the idea of love is correlates with the lack of episodes, because as we go further on with the manga, that's when we can really feel the romance between those two. For people who just finished watching the anime, I suggest you all to read the manga.
I haven’t read the manga but lowkey might give it a shot when I get a free time on my hands.
@@BurgerManTTV Hey! At the least it gave you a laugh :)
about the assault scene i'd like to say something.
@@kenma5176 its more about understanding why she did it.
Shoutout to my girl Harumin for being a real MVP
For real! (:
Beyond based from the start.
I dont understand why she put the bear??
citrus is flawed but i think it still ends up being pretty good
Same its very good
its not flawed at all, its extremely accurate
Hey +Blue Spectrum, I most definitely agree with you! Oh, also, is Citrus+ like an updated series to the manga?
@@Juhnime it's the continuation of Yuzu and Mei's story after Mei gets back home! Before they get married :)
But also there messed up and confused teenagers, we wernt all perfect then and we can’t expect this to be either
Agreed I'll read the Manga
I don’t think it’s trashy. It just has flawed characters
I came from the citrus subreddit! I really enjoyed your videos and I am looking forward to binging your other videos and upcoming ones.
Hello!! Thank you so much!! I’ve got a ton more planned and in the process so I hope you stay tuned for that! (:
@@Juhnime I'm looking foward to it!
oh my god thank you for this.
i'm tired of debating with people who are just '' PROBLEMATIC CAUZ SISTERS KISSING ''. it's not the most important in it
There's definitely more to it than the out skirts of the theme!
I think your morals are a little bit flipped…
@@vincevvn ….
Honestly, I love this anime for a couple of reasons,
First, it is really relatable to my IRL self, I am a guy and actually likes girls since childhood, I was very very lonely so when I grow up and entered primary and high school, I had lots of crushes but however because I don't look good and I have no experience with people, most of them doesn't pay much attention to me, I confessed 3 times in the span of 11 years + 1 year(Thanks to Covid), none accepted.
Absolutely amazes me how much this anime connects with your personal life. Thank you so much for sharing. (:
@@Juhnime also want to thank you for making a video talking about this😄

@@ACasualWeeb Sounds good! (:
But what you said, I never knew about and it is quite interesting.
i'm still gonna use that walk home kiss gif even after finding out what kind of anime citrus is
As someone who doesn't like Citrus I think your video has a solid point. While it is true that the sexual assault aspects are unnessasary and I think personally is the main reason people are thrown off by it (and maybe the fact they're step-sibilings) the development in the show and from the characters is really good and I personally think would be the only reason to watch it.
This reminds me of how Randy Marsh kisses a Native American man to get his DNA in South Park.
Ik this is probably late but thank you for making this video!!
This anime has a special place in my heart and is one of my first yuri anime/the only manga i have read in its entirety (excluding citrus+ since its still ongoing) so i might be biased
Also since a lot of people seem to really dislike the anime, its kinda hard to look for people that like the manga too. If i look for some video analysis of the series, i mostly get "reasons why its bad videos" so this video is such a refresher
Im looking forward to future plots of the series and how yuzu and mei navigate them as well as our beloved side characters (harumin best girl).
@@Juhnime omg no thank you 🙌
I love the anime, but I can understand the issues people had with it: the SA.
I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the video! (:

I like Yuri anime, but this broke the mold the way owl house did for Disney animated shows.
This is just my opinion so if you don't agree please don't attack me
You were correct. I agree with you
The character development in the manga is decent but I wonder what was going through the authors head when deciding to add a SA scene knowing that it's completely irredeemable (obviously no offense to them though)
Tbh, if this was a romance between a hetero couple and the guy straight up just SA's the girl several times people would have extremely different reactions than Citrus fans do when Mei does it to Yuzu, which I find a little hypocritical; if rape in other types of media can't be justified why is it suddenly okay when the lesbian couple does it?
Thank you! This is amazing and has an accurate summary, I was thinking the same thing but couldn't find the words, lol
I'm from citrus reddit :D
Thank you for watching the video! I appreciate it from the bottom of my heart ❤️
I can say it is a masterpiece, very colorful characters and a good story
I prefer to take a neutral stance on all this to avoid any negativity being spread via the common Internet arguments, but yes, factually everything you stated is correct.
They are stepsisters. They are related. It is creepy.
Thank you for explaining it. This analysis makes me think the anime would've worked better as an anime aimed at family dynamics and sisterhood. The yuri aspect would've worked better in another anime.
Glad you enjoyed it !

I really liked a anime; mei seeking her purpose of life in the void heart is the core pushing the story.., but ec**hi fans ruined this anime
Am I the only one who liked this from the first moment...hm
I think it really depends on how people generally viewed it, but I didn't personally think Citrus was a bad anime! In fact, I enjoyed a lot of it!
My first yuri anime and it's better than most of the normal romance anime which I hate those wimp guys. 7.6 if I rate.
The middle school corn star really got me when I was watching tho 💀
I loved the anime
I agree that there exists flaws and honestly, it wouldn't be a human-made film without any prone errors, right? (:
Deserves a season 2 for sure.
It's amazing how Harumin and Matsuri are now the best characters in the whole manga, their romance is better than Yuzu and Mei's
Do I need to get on that trend?!
Amazing video can you recommend any other anime series like this
I’m very new to yuri animes so I’m not sure what I could be recommending! But if you’re into romance, I feel like animes such as Higehiro, A Day Before Us, Adachi to Shimamura, or Golden Time!
@@Juhnime thank you!
@@Juhnime I looked up higehiro and it looks interesting but will it be getting a dub?
I’m not so sure about that(?) Does it not have one?
@@Juhnime No it doesn’t have a dub yet
Citrus does a great job showing us progress through individual character developments.
i'am 2 years late but i wanna say :
"It's a anime that almost killed my fandom"
i always connect the forced affection to the fact that you cant chose your sexual orientation
I loved the ending
So a cute lesbian story
It’s yuri !
Shoujo A.I. 😂
Don't care, has lesbians so instant watch.
Very interesting approach!
lol
It’s cool that you see more in this show….but, to me at least, Citrus is a microcosm of the weird and frankly gross fetishization of same sex relationships in anime before 2016….which is saying something since this anime came out in 2018.
Stories are meant to be interpreted differently and it's totally fine to have a different view or value. The way I view it may not directly align to what you think, but it definitely is great to see how the same show can reflect different/various morals from others.
ok, im going to get attacked, but the citrus anime sucks ass.
Everyone has their own opinion, so no worries heh (:
It's nice to see everyone that either love or dislike citrus express the feeling about the anime in the comment!❤️🪙
Hopefully Anime Fans can Give this anime a second Chance!!👍🕳️
Definitely!
