- Robert Pattinson stopped by the Variety studio to talk about “The Lighthouse,” his character's glorious mustache and spending a day singing sea shanties with co-star Willem Dafoe. He plays a junior lighthouse keeper in the 19th Century under the tutelage of Dafoe’s character who begins to grapple with his own sanity.

If you watch the film with subtitles, it gives the lyrics to an actual lumberjack song called "How we got up to the woods last year", which was in reality a really mellow tune

Okay....dude can act. Willem is batshit. To go toe-to-toe with him in something like this deserves recognition. Love both these guys now.
"Now"? Willem Dafoe has been killing it for decades.
I am glad people are finally seeing him as a good actor and not just a sparkly twilight boy, because Robert truly is one hell of a good actor, and I think with Matt Reeves vision and leadership in this Batman movie this can be the best live action version of Batman

@@hansmichaelfanunal2545 yeah, all those 'experts' on Oscar nominations say The Lighthouse is "too weird" a film for nominations! They love their biopics or other typical dramas. At least it's gotten some Indie Spirit Award nominations, some Gothams & hopefully some others. Too good not to have more.

For far too long, Robert Pattinson was overlooked as a seriously talented actor. With performances such as this one ... Good Time, The Rover, High Life, The King and the list goes on and on ... how can anyone deny that this guy is world-class? He totally deserves Oscar recognition!

I know there are a lot of American Accents that can be difficult to pull off, especially when you're raised in England. I have to say Pattison's Boston accent was utterly fantastic, especially since it was an 1890's Boston accent. Dude did a great job acting but his accent work I was very impressed with.
I genuinely love how Rob is so giggly and happy in all these Lighthouse interviews😂 both performances were outstanding, just impeccable. Pattinson deserved more recognition, this is his best performance so far

I swear his acting gets better everytime. My unpopular fucking opinion tho: he'll surpass Leo Dicaprio by the time he's at Leo's age. Although Leo had already shown a great acting since he's a child in Gilbert Grape, but Pattinson's acting shockingly keeps getting better

i was riding the F train one day in manhattan and i happened to look up for a moment. there across from me was willem dafoe, just sitting there alone, smiling to himself. gave me a nice smile as well. i didnt say anything. just enjoyed seeing this talented man in the flesh! lol

Dude is an amazing actor. All I knew him from before watching "The King" was "Harry Potter." He blew me away in "The King" for what was such a bit role. This "The Lighthouse" looks really interesting too. Looking forward to it.
People only think of him as Edward the vampire from twilight but before criticizing go watch his other movies. He is an amazing actor and he will do a great job with batman. I'm definitely gonna watch this movie.
This and Good Time redeemed his career and now he is a fucking hero of mine. Such a great actor.

At some point in The Lighthouse towards the end I actually started to wonder if it was the same actor playing his character. I haven’t seen a mental and physical breakdown and disintegration like that on screen since Daniel Day Lewis in There Will Be Blood.

I'm yet to see the movie but from all the snippets I've seen, Rob did a fucking great job. He's done such great movies in the recent years. People should really stop judging him for Twilight, the man's come a long way. I hope he gets the recognition he deserves from this film and he'll a great Batman.

Tilly Ok Tough to describe in one sentence but, basically its about 2 guys isolated on an island tending to a super old lighthouse, and they slowly go insane. But its amazing, every scene locks you in, even with only 2 people

Robert should be extremely proud of his performance in this movie. For me putting Pattionson and Dafoe together turned out gold. This movie is one of my favorites. Only seen it once but the same was with The Immigrants and The New Land. Only saw them once until I made it a thing to see those movies once a year near christmas. Going to do the same with The Lighthouse. It's so good, it's a once a year kinda movie.

Fadi Naim I don’t think he was a supporting actor, both him and Dafeo were both the leading actors because they were the only actors in this movie
I'd argue that Pattinson was definitely the lead in this. Dafoe didn't have much of an arc in the film and the camera was pretty much always on Pattinson.
Producers placed him as lead and Dafoe as supporting

I was going to criticize how Robert started out (gaining fame by something as trivial as Twilight) but one start is as good as another. He's showing himself to be a great performer.
The thing is he didn't start with Twilight. You should watch the indie movies he did back then way before that. My favourites are "Little ashes", "the bad mother's handbook", "The haunted airman" to name a few...
