I love your wording, Dr. Nate!! "catch the effluent"!! Nice!! You are speaking my language!! Also, great info!! I will be installing a sump for each of my systems someday!! (I have been saying this for two years now! Lol!)
Thanks for the great video! Where did you get the stand for the IBC tank? Also, what is a good alternative to the IBC tank if I have to move the tank through a doorway?
Great info as always Nate! Ive been following you guys for a while as I dream of an aquaponic system someday. I'm really enjoying indoor hydroponics and just installed an iponic 624 controller for my small grow rooms, so I really appreciate the hydro info. I'm hand watering this crop but will set up a drip system and nutrient dosing in the next month, so
Hey +Canyon Racer - Awesome thanks for chiming in. We're always excited to hear from long-term viewers and appreciate your support in spreading the word about these videos! Have you started using ZipGrow towers yet? We should get you set up!
What are the capacities of the two tanks used in the video for the 2 pump system? (The IBC tank and the reservoir tank) Is there a tank capacity ratio I should look for when creating a system like this?
I see your comment with the link for the pumps, but those don't have float switches. Are those available separately? Thank you for the videos - I'm learning a lot.
Sure, if you have rain! We don't get much here in Wyoming. You'll just want to be careful about where the rainwater is coming from. Is it coming straight from the sky? Or is it coming off a roof with the potential for sediment collection, etc.
Hi Joseph, yes.. Take a look at the rest of our channel. We have over 50 videos on Aquaponics alone, in addition to an entire podcast series you can find at podcast.brightagrotech.com/
Ok so this is what I got. I got Lowest part of system = Fish Tank.. Pump from fish to swirl filter.... Swirl filter over flows to grow bed. Grow bed ebb and flows via bell siphon back to fish tank. I have 2 air stones at bottom of Swirl Filters followed by lava rock, pond pads and hundreds of 99c store lufa's. I just tested the water and I am in the "Sweet spot" for PH. However everything else tested VERY Low PPM for everything else. Boc Choi seems to be growing very well but spinach is whack! Leaves are pale and growth looks stunted. Might be temp?.. However I am moving to new place and was debating on putting in a Sump.. This didn't Exactly tell me why?. IF i have a check valve from pump in fish tank to swirl filters I'm "safe" if any power shuts off. So what is exactly the purpose of the sump and is there something I am missing? Thanks brother! GREAT videos!.. Always leaning and glad you help us.
Two- pump systems are only for applications where you need your fish tank above grade or at or above the level of your growing techniques, i.e. concrete warehouse floors that you can't dig into. If you can set a sump in the ground, then you can have a 1 pump, split flow system (for AP producers) that is ideal.
Great info explaining the 2-pump vs 1-pump!
Glad it was helpful, Edmund!

+RevtosTV We're glad to hear this info is helpful! You'll have to let us know how the sump setups go!
Thanks Nate. As always solid teaching in layman's terms.
+Steve Haley Always happy to help when I can!

thank you so much for sharing this video.
last week i was thinking a lot about this and now you made my day
really easy.thank you one more time.
Glad to hear it!
So glad to be of service! Thanks for tuning in as always.
Thanks for all the informative videos. I've viewed all of them.
Glad we could be helpful!
what pumps are you using, my pumps never last, thanks
where does one purchase those ebb n flow trays and the sump pump and all the associated tubing/plumbing?
Love your videos. I'm a novice newbie beginner zip grow farmer. Would love to see a video on how the float switches are installed with the pumps
Thank you for the always helpful videos! , I wanted to ask if you change the water in the sum tank regularly or endlessly reticulate it.
exteeeeemely useful info! ordering my spring system soon!!
+Connor McKee You should wait to order on Monday (*wink wink)! But don't wait too much longer after that...
+Bright Agrotech NOTED!!
How are you controlling heat produced by pumps and avoid temprature raise in water.
Vardhan, there are commerically available "water chillers". Look up Active Aqua, they make some 1/4, 1/2 and 1 HP water chillers.

Yes, Zip towers are next. Currently looking for a volunteer wall/s. I'll keep you posted!
+Canyon Racer Nice! Just shoot us an email at info(at)brightagrotech(dot)com and we will hook you up with a discount for being a long-term viewer!

halo Mr. Nate, thank you for sharing. May i know how much water you should have in your sump to watered 4 stacks of your seed ?
Hi Joe, usually we have a 25 gallon tank. But it won't hurt to go up to a 50 gallon tank.
i see.. is there any standard how deep of water you should irrigate your seedling with?
Could add something to alert the first pump has failed, like a light or low volume alarm to the second pump which is activated by the float switch.
I see your comment with the link for the pumps, but those don't have float switches. Are those available separately? Thank you for the videos - I'm learning a lot.
Hi Davis! Feel free to get in touch with us for more info: brightagrotech.com/contact/
Are you using rainwater collection from barrels? Better than having to collect water from outside watering company. Right?
Sure, if you have rain! We don't get much here in Wyoming. You'll just want to be careful about where the rainwater is coming from. Is it coming straight from the sky? Or is it coming off a roof with the potential for sediment collection, etc.
Illegal in Colorado. You would go to jail if you did that. You don't own the water coming off of your roof in Colorado.
But how much hp does each pump have.
have you guys thought of having an Aquaponics system...?

What "really inexpensive pump" are you using?
+Scott Baker It's an Active Aqua brand 550gph: shop.brightagrotech.com/active-aqua-submersible-pumps-160-1000-gph/

Does the pump run 24/7?
Clear hoses are for air black hoses are for water...
