This story gives me chills because it could have been me. In 2016, I got into a car in Brooklyn thinking it was my Uber, and it wasn't. Not even 30 seconds after, NYPD pulled us over saying that it was an illegal cab, and that I had to get out. The officer also reminded me to be more careful. I was very young, naive, and foolish-- thank god I walked away from that situation alive. This easily could have happened to me. Rest in peace Samantha

It was planned. I’m sure he didn’t plan to kill her specifically but he planned to trap someone in the backseat or his child locks wouldn’t have been activated. He’s an animal, and if it wasn’t her it would have been someone else or even more than one person. My heart aches for this family. We cannot trust people so taking Uber, Lyft, or even a taxi can’t always be safe. People need to be more aware and never ever let someone ride alone. PLAN YOUR OUTING! Have a sober friend or family pick you up, take the necessary steps to keep safe, and never let your guard down around strangers.
Don’t blame the victim.... blame the monster that chose to drive around impersonating an Uber. He ripped a lot of people’s lives apart.

That is really dangerous because you have no idea who’s getting in your vehicle. My suggestion is that the individual must have a Uber/ Lyft account and must link together with the person making the request. This needs to be incorporated into the App.

Up to this day, i still can't understand how people can be soo comfortable jumping into an unmarked private vehicle of a random someone, who signed up online to drive for that company. Even thou there are back ground checks, it still haven't stop people who had their so call back ground check, from killing, raping and kidnapping their customer in various sections of the world. Of course people will be trilled when innovation comes along and change an old school custom but with innovative change, also comes with risk. Traditional taxi cabs have a solid foundation consist of an actual headquarter with an actual boss that can yell, scream and say 'Your Fired" in your face when you mess up. Taxi cabs have that uniform structure involving paper work where all the vehicles are branded and can easily be recognise from a block away. Uber and similar companies are that innovative wild card where different private vehicles from ordinary people, who get paid via an app, don't feel the same pressure to perform and to be law abiding.

@@Master_Petes_Theater The opportunity to do evil lies within every human and of course both passengers and drivers could be the aggressor. Which means those who drive for these companies, also have that risk factor applied where a crazy passenger can attack them such as in the case of a passenger killing a 8 month pregnant female Uber driver in Arizona whom the passenger knew. My focus is on the visual aspect where you can tell someone is actually on duty when driving. Maybe the laws will demand all private vehicles place some kind of bold stickers on the sides and something on the wind shield that identifies the company assigned once on duty. Some pizza delivery joint, use regular vehicles but they place one of those magnetic things on the roof that identifies them as a Pizza delivery

My heart goes out to you, your fam, and the extended family your daughter developed.
In addition to all that you have regretfully become proponents of, I am a strong proponent of living a concealed carry lifestyle (especially women). The are so many dangerous situations that can reveal themselves in an instant.

My Heart goes out to these Parents. I to lost a Daughter who was a wife and a Momma to my Sweet Granddaughter. She's missed each and every day. I to call my other Daughter Sweet Pea. She's an Uber driver and I worry about her driving however her being a Momma to my other Granddaughter a single mother she needs the extra money. So she drives and I worry.

Sandy, I am so sorry you lost your daughter. I can not imagine loosing a child and no mother should ever go through that. My heart breaks for you and her little girl. ❤

It's only unsafe if she drives at night. I have a female friend that does Uber & Lyft & she only does mornings/day time. She never feels unsafe.

As i mentioned on another comment, the danger goes both ways as the driver could be the one getting attacked by a crazy passenger just as a passenger can get attacked by the driver. Think about how they claim they vet and run back ground check on the drivers but maybe something need to be designed where the app can confirm if the passenger have a criminal history, which will be relayed on the app, and leaving it up to the driver to accept or not accept that job. The way how they can run your credit history and find out your credit or the way how you can enter a social security number which can confirm who that passenger actually is etc. Something need to be designed where the app have information already stored on both drivers and passengers. I don;t know if new passengers have to register an account with those companies which will store your info on file but the danger goes both ways.
