    When my brother was a child my oldest sister was dating a guy who was a bully. He'd pick on me and my siblings all the time (when my sister wasn't around), but especially my brother. My brother was sweet and gentle (still is), and would never fight or defend himself. Well, one day my family's cat was home (he was an indoor/outdoor cat) and my sister's boyfriend started to "wrestle" with my brother. He picked him up and dropped him on the floor and my brother let out a yelp of pain. All I saw was a streak of black fur and then my cat was sitting on my brother's chest (my brother was laying on his back, where he had landed when he fell) and my cat was swiping and hissing fiercely up at my sister's boyfriend. My cat didn't leave until my sister's boyfriend backed away and then he preceded to watch him until he left our house. Needless to say, my sister's boyfriend didn't wrestle with my brother after that, my cat would barely even let the bully near the house >:P He was a great guard cat ♥ R.I.P. Cinderfella ♥

    Horses generally run from danger and are not known to protect other horses except when defending their young. Interesting story. These precious animals communicate in so many unique ways, and I’m fascinated with their behavior.

      Yep. Some of the narrating, I think, is to add drama to the story. I don't know of a horse that would encourage a little girl to get on either. lol And all horses will head home, if you give them their lead to do so. Which would be helpful if you were really lost. I am impressed that little girl was able to stay on the horse, bare back, as it ran back home. Takes a good rider to able to do that. Drove me crazy how that halter was not fitting that horse. It was all wrong on his face. lol

    Sometimes it is the other way around and a human being is saving a horse from getting hit by a car on a very busy road! It was in the late 1980th as I was in a horse stable in the neighboring village and one of the horses ran away with a saddle on her back and halter on the head! I saw it as she was quite a distance away and I realised that she was galloping towards a busy road during the rush hour but I, by myself can neigh exactly like a horse and I did it very often and suddenly she stopped running and turned back and galloped towards me and stopped right in front me! Her owner was very surprised to hear my neighing and to see that her horse was galloping towards me and stopped right in front me and stood there until she took her to the stable! So I saved her horse with my absolutely amazing and stunning capabilities of neighing exactly like a real horse and despite her horse is already in heaven she is still thankful that I saved her horses life with my own neighing because this horse was so expensive and a great dressage horse and jumping horse! That's it and lovely greetings from Sarah 🙋😍💖🐎👍

    There are "canned" air horns that snowmobilers take along in case they get lost. They make a terribly loud noise that carries far & wide. Those would be a good defense to carry, if not a good pistol.

    Poor Holly! I had a Shorky with the same name. My landscapers left our little “fairy gate” a wee little hidden gate only 3 slats wide ajar and my Holly went out of the yard and died from running in front of a car. She had only been out a few minutes. My neighbor heard the screams of the young lady that hit her, and sadly it was instant death. I will never forgive myself for that, even though that gate was never ever open. My yard boys were just kids trying to earn money for summer camp. 10/12 years old. They were devastated when they found out what happened. My Holly had 4 month old puppies, and yesterday we celebrated the 5th birthday for the two I kept!

      Well yes, Wolves, bears and lions, and those were hunted out by the Romans, but until recently, we had a large and varied population, of wild animals. Unfortunately well meaning people have tilted the otherwise reasonably balanced ecology. Too many Badgers, too many Foxes, reintroduced species that would have been fine if the human population was 30% of what it is now. Also too many non indigenous species brought in because somebody thought they would look nice.

    • @cassiespencer6134
      @cassiespencer6134 4 года назад +2

      I wouldn't advise it. Although yelling and making oneself look as large as possible often works in 'some' situations, it depends on the species and how they're acting. But hissing isn't something I'd suggest. That's because many prey animals also hiss or growl when threatened and still end up as meals. Therefore it's not a good idea to act the same way prey often does. But generally speaking they rarely see us as prey.
      If they become a little too curious or start acting aggressively then make yourself look scary and as large as possible. For example, use clothing, such as a jacket and stick your arms out to the side and upward while yelling loudly in an angry tone while standing your ground.
      I've encountered bears a number of times and they typically ignored me or looked at me cautiously before wandering off. I've even chased a few black bears away. But generally speaking, give them plenty of room and remain still. This is more important should you see a mother and her cub/s. In which case you want to appear non-threatening. After all, it's never a good idea to piss off mom! ;)

      Well, when logging companies come in a clear cut for lumber or pulp, they don't let the land lie barren. It's a crop, just like corn or wheat, and like corn and wheat, it needs to be sown. The only difference is one gets harvested every year, and the other, every twenty years. I did it for a bit when I visited my grandmother. She worked for the state forestry commission spotting fires, my cousin drove a logging truck, and my aunt owned a thousand or so acres of logging land, so it was something of a family concern. It's long hours, dirty work, can be hazardous if you've any previously unknown allergies, the terrain is rugged, and the "camps" that you get put up in are dismal, at best. Oh, yeah, we also had to take, and pass, a state test on handling insecticides, herbicides, and fertilizer! There's really only two reasons to be a tree planter.
      The first is Love. You're an avowed environmentalist and passionate tree-hugger. You truly feel like this is saving the planet in some way. You love the great wild world, the flora, the fauna, and your fellow human beings. (Particularly that hunky one one over there that you're hoping to impress in some some way, because if he weren't here, you sure wouldn't be here, either!)
      The second is Experience. Not only does it look great to your college, but comes is really handy when seeking work with a forestry degree in your hand and the sense to use it. You know what it's like for everyone, from the ground up. They know the importance of each job, and knows how those jobs relate to one another.
      Countless lives have been affected by logging quality wood and lumber, and it continues to multiply. From bassinet to coffin, and from little girls who get to take walks with their grannies in the forest to mommas missing their kids while tending the sowing of the next crop.
      (Sorry. It's just that I saw the word, "trees", and kinda' went overboard. I am genetically cursed.)

    • @Pro3110
      @Pro3110 4 года назад +1

      Generally speaking, yes, but the one action the horse took that disproves that theory is the biting at his sides. I've a Belgian mare that throws so much attitude that my husband's Army Bradley crew wanted their call sign named for her. When she gives a warning, it's biting at her side, shoulder, and leg. It means, "Get the eff back if you know what's good for you!" and she means it. Ignore it at your own peril. He wasn't telling the girl to mount up, at all. He was telling the moose that he'd rip her to shreds if she came closer to him and his girl.
      I have another little mare that frantically kept pawing at a leaf pile that I was burning. I was scooping them up, and tossing them on the fire. She kept it up, and finally, she pushed me back away from the pile. I got my pitchfork and started using it to toss leaves and branches, and there it was. A small copperhead snake, coiled around the tines. People say they don't think, emote, or reason, and I'll go so far as to say that they don't think, have emotions, and reason like we do, but they do in their own way. One thing's for sure, it's a hella' good feeling to have the love and friendship of a horse. Don't let them down and you're a hella' good human being.
