I did something like it for a tunnel :D, I suggest you to test the setup with the hair object, you will get a massive improvement in performance.

I watched it without skipping all the details. I only have blue color. Other colors are not visible. You paused the video and started it again from time to time. Did you make different settings in the meantime?

Check how u r storing the attribute that makes the random value, that could be the issue
