I feel like Lucy has always been the heart of the series.
She is.
She’s the main character.
Shes the main character moreso than natsu
She is indeed actually Lucy and Levy are the two main narrators of the story like remember when something very important has ended either Levy or Lucy do narration well that is because both of them loved to write so it's as if Fairy Tail wasn't being written by Mashima but rather Lucy instead which was later on conveyed in the final chapter of Fairy Tail

Tbh if it was a male character most people would not respect him as a protagonist if he didnt get a few legitimate wins without being saved or aided by others. Im not saying she has to be op but the star dress should have bern a think from the get go to give her a better chance and track record.

I feel like theres something that wasn't brought up in this video which played a huge part in Lucy's development.
Star Dress.
Lucy herself has been an anomaly among celestial spirit mages since she got her whip and decided to fight alongside them but I feel like before she would still have the habit of relying on them and others in battle. Not just relying but also as a means of protection. After the 2nd time skip she developed the Star Dress and from then on she has always been on the front lines and willing to get hurt if it meant protecting her family. It even allows her to use the powers on non-combat specific spirits like Cancer in battle.
She really does go from a summoner mage that would be on the backlines in support to someone that would step onto the battlefield without a second thought.
You do know that cancer is also a good fighter he’s actually a swordsman he uses his ✂️to cut through thing like he even cuts wepons
@@Rayan-mf1ot yes he's a good fighter and a swordsman but cancer himself doesn't really like to fight from what I remember. He'd much prefer to just do people's hair and with Star dress Lucy can use his abilities without needing to summon him so its a win win

I think that alot of people forget that the celestial spirit's magic power is the summoners power.
Lucy supplies her spirits with magic power to both fight and for them to pass through the gate.
For example, in the tartoros arc, after she cast urano metria, she didn't have enough power to keep the celestial spirt king there. Pointed out by the king and mard geer. In a way she is sort of like a battery pack for her spirits.
This man went from not liking fairy tail to praising it 2020 is wild.

2020 is a weird year
Having been subscribed since the days Crafts was releasing the original Fairy Tail series, these new videos are bizarre occurrence if a welcome one. While I still don't enjoy Fairy Tail beyond Zero (Because Mavis is cute), I think this sentiment of trying to meet a story on its level and acknowledge what it's trying to say regardless of one's opinion towards it is admirable.
When you say beyond Zero do you mean you only like Zero or you don't like the arc's after it and like the arcs before it
@@erois6190 I mean that I only really enjoy Zero as a side story, but not the main Fairy Tail story. Even the earlier parts don't do it for me on a reread because I know how things develop.
*I Love Lucy theme plays in the distance* But this is honestly an excellent character study of Lucy with a little Erza thrown in too.
I just realized that her Stardress magic builds on that theme of the spirits suporting her instead of being her strenght. From that point onwards she always uses stardress. The whole point is that she no longer asks them to do something but asks them to help her do something. Man and here I thought it was just a Erza knockoff.
Fairy Tail always burns me out fast when I try to watch it again but Lucy is usually always my favorite over the other characters even though she basically the weakest one when it comes to combat.

@@elijahsem3939 It's mediocre actually in terms of problems when it comes to how it treats death come to mind. Also characters facing consequences for their actions is also a big problem. It has good elements but overall Mashima didn't seem to have a well planned out story towards the end.
All these commenters acting surprised or saying that Craftsdwarf came around to Fairy Tail this year really need to listen to the Nen Show, this is old news. (although it's still only like a 6/10)
6/10 is fair. I just want people to stop pretending that it has nothing going for it.

@@shockshplock3480 Huh.I actually like Wendy as a fighter especially in her dragon force. Of course I wouldn't say she is all that interesting compared to the rest but wouldn't say she sucks either. She is just ok to me, a character that I can root for in fights but no more. My rankings would probably go 1) Natsu 2) Gajeel 3)Erza 4)Gray 5) Lucy 6)Wendy
@@erois6190 I get her Dragon Force was pretty cool, but other than that she NEVER DOES ANYTHING. Mashima keeps on undermining/sidelining her abilities to contribute to the “Look how Cute and Clumsy she is!” Gag, all of her character development in the last few arcs of FT was completely wasted, the scene where she cut her hair to symbolise change was forgotten about because she almost immediately grew it back again, and even her most recent power-up was relying on someone else’s power.
Natsu is ok, I don’t dislike him or anything but I don’t think he’s a G.O.A.T protagonist like many others do. I like his progression after Igneel’s death, I like his dynamic he has with the guild, his overly-hated philosophies on friendship, his powers, the attention to Detail Mashima upholds with him, but he also has a lot of factors holding him back from being a great protagonist. He doesn’t have any meaningful character flaws, no linear progression at all, his motivations were unclear and unfocused for most of the series, and his conflict with his Dragon and Demon side was just incredibly forced and didn’t make a lot of sense to me.
Lucy is actually a really good character, as Craft explained in this video, even if (up until a few years ago) I did used to hate her for never really doing anything meaningful, an opinion I’ve completely changed within the past year.
Erza, while she does have her odd moments of bullshitery (AKA her fights with Kyoka and Irene), she’s overall the most consistently complex, interesting, and also the most badass member of the guild as a whole. Her relationship with Jellal also massively benefits her character because it makes her feel more relatable, even if it is sort of one note.
Gray is by far my favourite (Gajeel/Laxus would be but neither of them are in Team Natsu). He’s the only one who’s progression actually makes sense from a character standpoint *and* simultaneously a power based standpoint, he’s always given stuff to do and never feels like he’s being sidelined by other characters (his conflicts with Leon and Ultear and his guilt over the death of his mentor Ur, his fight with Natsu during Alvarez, his willingness to sacrifice himself and be forgotten by everyone who ever knew him to save his friends, despite only just making up with most of said friends, and his relationship with Juvia). He also has the least power-ups out of everyone and has my personal favourite powers, so that helps.
@@shockshplock3480 There are many stuff that hold Gray back for me. One being that he constantly tries to use Ice Shell. Like five times if I remember correctly. But now rethinking about his relationship with Ultear and Ul I might put him at number three

I mean, why would those people watch this video, especially within only 2-3 days since it was published? Fairy tail ended what, few years ago? Even if those people had kept reading until the last chapter they still probably wouldn't search for this video years later "just because". Give them time, maybe some of them will see this.
Besides, this video just explains that Lucy has a character arc, right? These people could still find her useless depending on what they mean by it. Her personal arc and development could have nothing to do with some people still finding her useless, and depending on definitions, they might even have a solid arguments in some sense. Depending on what they mean by "useless".
@@thornray1025 The useless arguments isn't a things because actually there got many flaws and aren't according to the manga. The true things is their call her useless because their don't like her. The logic between that is like : "Naruto is a shitty and useless character because actually he relied to much on Kurama chakra, shadow clone and Raseengan" I mean that's his abilities so why he will don't use it ? Same roots for lucy spirits but anyways...

She was always useful and not weak but inexperimented like she doesn't know how to fight before but each arc, she improves her skills and strenght... Like she's stronger than Wendy and a lot of people like Minerva, Rufus, Orga or even Spriggan like Jacob, Ajeel and Neinhart...

despite the amount of fanservice, and ofc that's on mashima, fairy tail is a good story, characters wise, esp when it's a shonen anime yet the anime main hero(es) who always empathize with everyone whether friends or foes and solving other people's business are both lucy and natsu, heavy on lucy even, i really like it that the story revolves around the 2 of them instead of just natsu

What I really find interesting is a subtle conflict that Natsu and Lucy seem to have. Anyone who does not want to be spoiled about the 100 year quest sequel should probobly stop reading about now. Lucy often fights with subterfuge. Tricking her opponents into commiting serious errors that can lead to their defeat. Natsu isn't really like that. He sees a fight as a contest of power and skill and doesn't "fight dirty" if you could call it that. Sure he won't complain if Lucy her trickery saves their asses but I get the impression that he does not respect her for it. Lucy apparently is the only person that Natsu won't spare with. After the timeskip Natsu jokingly offers to spar with Lucy while assuming that she will refuse. But Lucy is actually willing to take him up on it. She would like to test her mettle against him but then Natsu suddenly laughs it off saying something along the lines that there wouldn't be any point to it. He will fight Gray, Erza, Laxus and even Max (weakass sand mage) but refuses to fight Lucy. I interpret that as him respecting freaking Max his power and skill more than he respects Lucy's. This seems to come up again in the sequel where everyone excepte Gray and Natsu get transformed into monsters and brainwashed to be hostile. Lucy is now this snakewomen thing and initiates a fight with Natsu. But before the fight starts they have a short conversation. Natsu remarks that this will be the first time that the two of them fight and Lucy responds that it certainly seems so. Natsu also wonders aloud if he can just beat some sense into her while grinning confidently. So it seems to me that Natsu isn't really expecting a tough fight. He does apparently change his mind though as soon as Lucy slams him into the ceiling. Natsu is about to jump down and do some punching but Lucy manipulates him emotionally into hesitating (by pretending to be afraid and screaming that it is "just her") which allows her to get another good shot in. That is the part where Natsu really starts to get angry so he initiates his Lightning Flame Dragon mode. So obviously Natsu is hella mad because Lucy messed with him emotionally but I like to think that it is more than that. Perhaps what also enraged him is the fact that in his eyes Lucy used a "dirty trick" which to him is pretty much a taboo. So I am pretty exited to see where this is going especially since Lucy might be really important in this arc. Hope it doesn't get fucked up somehow.

While I likely wont give FT another chance myself, I did always feel like Lucy was the most interesting character in the show and the one character to possibly make me like the series (along with possibly Gray)-- It's nice to see people appreciating her, even in a show I otherwise loathe

It's weird watching this when even as a teen getting into anime I hated fairy tail cus it lacked depth, now watching these it's weird. Not exactly kentaro miura but the fact that it had some substance, even if it's still quite thin actually goes a long way to making me appreciate it
This new video series is such a bizarre trip for me, because I also recently independently watched through most of Fairy Tail again, and it was an even more painful experience than I remembered. I mean, I generally agree with most of the points raised, and I also had disagreements with some of the points and arguments in the old teardown diatribe video series, but even so, I have a much lower tolerance to all the negative aspects of Fairy Tail that only become more and more unbearable as they increase in severity. The aspects that I can consider to be positives mostly feel like nothing special in comparison.
The main problem is while the ideas behind arcs and character arcs, ect. are good, the execution is usually what flops. Not because the execution itself is bad but because it's almost always the exact some execution every single arc. Even when we get new ideas, we get them in the same way so nothing feels fresh.
@@upg5147 For years I've been quietly thinking to myself "I feel like I'd actually like, say, Erza, if she were in One Piece, like, a series with the quality of storytelling and conflict design of One Piece." I get the basic characterization, her character quirks aren't too repetitive, they're nuanced enough to have a lot of amusing content, but the conflicts are so bare bones, and even the most basic of character arcs and stories are so overdramatic and corny. Every time they act like one conflict is the most dramatic claiming of power of friendship, a character passionately screaming about how they belong and whatnot, it just reduces the impact every time and makes it more insufferable for the next time the exact same thing happens in the exact same way.

The Aquarius key moment always bothered me. It's supposed to be this emotional moment where Lucy is never going to see Aquarius again but that definitely isn't the case. First of all humans can be taken to the celestial spirit world by spirits, so any of Lucy's other spirits can take her to see Aquarius at any time. Also spirits can summon themselves and do so all the time, so why can't Aquarius just come visit? It's been a while since I read the manga, but I was also under the impression that every celestial spirit has multiple keys that exist in the human world. Couldn't Lucy just find another Aquarius key? Aquarius probably knows where all her keys are. In that case Lucy isn't even sacrificing Aquarius as a combat option.
Anyway I'm glad you're doing more Fairy Tail videos. You have already pointing out some good stuff I missed when I read the series.
If I remember correctly threre are several silver keys for each spirit, but the gold keys are on of a kind. So there couldn't exist another Aquarius key.
Human can go to the CSW when is need not because their want to see someone + In aquarius case, she can do that granted by the Celestial spirits king and their do that thanks to Lucy being strong for maintain their gate open... Lucy can be able to find that but the keys need to be recreate and aquarius can't say nothing about that because that forbidden and find a celestial keys in the big universe fairy tail is it's something... For the combat option i want to know more of your opinion...
This show and experience has been a fairly odd story. I can't tell if it's great or shit.. if only I knew da rules of writing.

Plot
Cosmo and Wanda have caught the fairy flu and whenever they sneeze, their magic effects everything around them. This is problem trouble for Timmy, who has been invited to a birthday party for Tootie, Vicky's little sister. Unlike her older sister, Tootie is madly in love with Timmy!
Synopsis
Timmy is frustrated because he got invited to Tootie's birthday party. To which he also mentions that Tootie has a huge crush on him. Yet worst of all, she is also Vicky's little sister. Meanwhile, Cosmo started to sneeze a lot, and it turns out that he's got the "fairy flu" which results in losing control of his magic; every time he sneezes, something random would happen. For example, he accidentally wished Timmy's house to the moon. Afterwards, Timmy arrives at Tootie's birthday party. When Timmy gets to the door, Cosmo sneezes and changed Timmy's head into a toilet seat. When Tootie answers the door, hoping it was Timmy, she screams and calls Vicky. After Wanda turns Timmy's head turns back to normal, Vicky scolds Timmy for trying to scare her sister. Tootie then returned and was happy to see that Timmy came to her party.

Inside the house, Vicky tells all the kids, who she calls "little skid marks" that she is the "absolute ruler" of the party because she is older than them. Cosmo then sneezes again and turns her into a frog, which all the kids cheer for because they thought it was part of the magic show. Later during a game of spin the bottle, more chaos ensues when Wanda also catches the Fairy Flu and turns Tootie's lips into a bear trap when she tries to kiss Timmy. As Tootie chases Timmy around her house. Her head is changed into a variety of dangerous objects including scissors, a chainsaw, and even a Swiss army knife. Later it was revealed by the two sick fairies that the cure for the fairy flu is sauerkraut, but to make matters worse, Vicky was turned into a dragon because of Cosmo's sneezing and she starts terrorizing and tearing up the party. Timmy tells Tootie to help him stuff his fairy godparents in the form of balloons, to which he tells her are "Rare German Balloons". After stuffing them with sauerkraut and dodging the rampaging Vicky/dragon, Cosmo and Wanda are cured and turned everything is back to normal, although the party and Vicky's living room was completely destroyed. After then, it was discovered that Timmy is allergic to sauerkraut after Tootie kisses him. So Vicky has to watch him while his parents went out and she brings Tootie with her, who says she will be by Timmy every second, much to Timmy's dismay.
So I guess in 2 week you went from “I still dont like fairy tail but I was being unfair” to “here’s why fairy tail is anime GOAT”

He did a podcast on Fairytail where he read through it again with Mathwiz. During the reading he came to the conclusion that FT wasn't actually as bad as he remembered. I think he rated it 6/10 so a bit above average.

“But in being able to give that up for her guild, Lucy had become a mage, one who could stand up on their own.” I don’t think there’s anything wrong with the sentiment, but the fact that giving up Aquarius and bringing in the Spirit King, an enormous power who goes toe-to-toe with Mard Greer, cheapens it somewhat. Lucy did indeed sacrifice the greatest power she had for a selfless cause, but doing so strictly to draw on a greater power, if only temporarily, undermines the message I think you read into it.

I still hate fairy tail, yet I can kind of understand a bit why you do now.
It is a bit sad to see that this aspect has been somewhat forgotten in the follow up. A enemy basically tells Lucy that her Spirits can't defeat her because Lucy herself is not strong enough and as such the spirits cannot show their true power. And Lucy acts suprised. Like this is news to her and like she literally didn't say the exact same thing to Natsu at the beginning of the series when he mocks Taurus his strenght.

He never said he thinks Fairy Tail is good. He's only poiting out the good stuff Fairy Tail has. FT is not a good manga bu it has some good writting and good stuff in some parts. Just like better written mangas also have negatives. He's just being fair to the series instead of just throwing hate like everyone else does

@@jukaa1012 Yeah, as I've said people praise DemonSlayer too much cause they imprint whatever they want in the story cause it's too shallow. And people also say that by subjectivity. If you stop to objectively analyse it, is a 4/10 and the plotholes and problems start as soon as chapter 4. I'm saying it as a man who likes the manga and read it 5 times, paying attention to every single detail and researching as deep as I could, trying to have a neutral critic about it
Not to be that guy but Lucy's spirits are pretty weak. I mean it's pretty obvious the reason they gave her Star Dress is because Lucy is better at using their powers than they are. And even then Lucy is still the weakest member of the team.

Lucy spirits was never weak but underused or bad executed by Lucy herself fault of Knowledge and strategy(Take Angel and yukino introduction for example. Their have less than 5 spirits but their was great at offensive). Like she doesn't know how to use her proper magic in the beginning and she was inexperimented. Stardress was not for that reason but most like a grow... Like CS magic is summon spirits but at tartaros she lost her strongest spirits so the stardress initially was to "remplace" aquarius presence, since she sacrifies her but after that, instead of having one dress she trains to improve her offensive skill, i mean others stardress she got. If not i agree, Lucy use better spirits ability than spirits...

Because the key was re-made somewhere else in the world, but Lucy spent a lot of time without Aquarius power and became stronger without her. She didn't simply had Aquarius back on the spot, she spent almost 2 years training and becoming stronger, before Brandish handing Aquarius to her again basically by the end of the series

@@PaperThinnGlennHall I understand you're feelings and she couldn't just ger her back. If it wasn't for Brandish, if Zeref haven't started attacking she'ld never have gained Aquarius back. I understand how you feel about it, but objectively, the sacrifice was not a cop out and had consequences, even if she got her back. Specially cause she didn't simply just got her back and used her all time, she had to conquer it back and basically, when the story was ended. And until today, she almost never used Aquarius again cause she's not fully recuperated if I remenber corrrectly
Also aquarius says the Celestial Spirit Kind's gate can be opened once & having her return to the human world defeats the purpose of the sacrifice if she can just come back
@@PaperThinnGlennHall No, she said you can only open The Spirit King's gate by destroying one of the Twelve Zodiac keys. Not only once, you can invoke him 12 times if you want. The sacrifice still stands! It was not an exclusive power to Aquarius and she came back, NOT directly to Lucy! She respawned in another part of the world. It coming back to Lucy was a coincidence. Aquarius didn't imediately came back to Lucy's hands just for her. She spent 3 years without Aquarius, thinking her friends was forever dead, and becoming strong so she wouldn't have to do this sacrifice again. And in the end of the story, she managed to have the key with her again, by Brandish. The weight of the sacrifice and the co sequences of it still happened and still had meaning
