I've always had a problem with the fact that Lucy never had a chance to go and learn more about her magic. I know that Fanfiction doesn't count, but the amount of fanfic that has Lucy being able to grow as a wizard is amazing.
Actually, she had a chance to learn new magic, but Natsu get in the way, and instead of teaching her the magic Mira turned into a naked Lucy to satisfy the audience that was peeking which discouraged Lucy from trying. Lucy deserved Mermaid heel or Sabertooth, not FT. But most importantly she deserved a better writer that did not use her to make his all-time western fav baby "the only badass one" in the expanse of Lucy's right to develop as a magician.
Yeah I agree, there was no reason to have Lucy lose the Flare fight if they were just going to have her get embarrassed yet again in her very next fight with Minerva.
The worst thing about Fairy Tail, as someone who used to really love it, is that Lucy is our main/i guess like POV? character but Natsu seems to be our protagonist rather than Lucy. I think I'm not alone in being a kid who was really excited to see a girl main character in a shonen manga/anime who just kept getting disappointed by how badly she was treated. Its to the point where if I even see a torture of a main character scene /happen/ I start getting P.O.'d to the point where I will skip those scenes in pretty much every type of media I come across lol
@@Noah-fg6km This is exactly true. Protagonists and POV characters are often but not necessarily the same. To give a famous example, in the Sherlock Holmes books the POV is always Watson, but the protagonist is unquestionably Holmes himself. POVs can switch often, too, such as in a scene where the protagonist isn't present or when they're unconscious.
@@Noah-fg6km Mashima has stated that they both are the protags for FT. She is notably the narrator as well - and most arcs either resolve around her or the guild itself.
@@mjm3091 No, he stated that the actual protagonist is Natsu in an eaely volume afterword. Theyre just both main characters Also, being a narrator isnt an argument for being an MC. Armin is the narrator of AOT and he clearly isnt the protagonist
Mashima did state Natsu was the main character but even if he didn't, It isn't hard to tell that he is the main protaganist. Some Arcs may be focused on her but Natsu is clearly the one who still holds it all togehter. Not to mention, a vast majority of the show is about his progression and leading up to two of the most important arcs. Tartaros and the final season.
This wasn't a shade. This is how Lucy stans feel! I love celestial magic in fantasy worlds and her magic is a very unique and powerful one. Lucy didn't deserve the fate of damsel-punching bag-bdsm-fanservice-sexual assault object she got. Like wtf is wrong with you, Mashima? There is a limit to all of it!!!
"She got" - series isn't finished, also she is not the only character to get that - even Natsu had his own "damsel in distress" moments, same when Mard Geer casted Alegria - Lucy was the main saviour there as well.
I mean she was doomed to be the damsels in distress from the start. Her power is to call other people to fight for her This why I read fanfiction, female character always get the short end of the stick. A lot of Mangaka don’t seem to see their female character as person and independent character
I have a list too, and literally all top 3 are Lucy 😅 1) losing Aquarius, 2) reading Natsu's goodbye letter, 3) reading the letter from her dad. Girlie carried the emotional portions of the show
Literally the amount of fanfiction there is centered around Lucy's growth with her magic is an indicator that there are many in the FT fandom that agree with you. I never liked how Lucy was treated in the series and wanted better for her.
She is treated properly - just because she is a slow progress protagonist, doesn't mean she is mistreated - looking at her chapter 1 vs newest 100YQ chapter? She is doing just fine.
@@mjm3091 that is the worst way to look at it compare her to the very first episode to the literal end of fairytail yeah shes totally fine. No she gets tortured, hardly had any fights under her belt that wasnt total BS or won with enormous help, and is forced into the "Oh no I cant do anything save me" situation as stated in the video. Even Sakura in naruto (who is notorious for being horribly written) is treated better than lucy in her story. Lucy has all the cards to be succsessful as a celestial wizard throughout the show and yet shes still barely winning any fights by herself let alone even doing anything.
@Fancy Mustache Thats because everyone is expecting Lucy to be a fighter but she isn't that type of character, Lucy has been important and played a role in every single arc, she casted fairy sphere to seal acnologia(the final villian), she closed the eclipse gate and basically saved the world, she suffered keeping natsu alive after natsu killed zeref, she is the one who motivated everyone in the laxus arc to destroy the thunder palace, she saved every fairy tail member from the King of the underworld attack in the Tataros arc buy summoning the celestial king. The only arc I can say she got done dirty was the grand magic game arc, and it's unfortunate she was the character used to make ushate raven tail and Saber tooth. Lucy is one of my favorite fairy tail characters, and she is really important to the story.
@@correlgamers7518 Regardless if she is a fighter or not she should have gotten kore scenes where she can shine as much as the rest of the group. Everybody else has done the things shes done not to mention in a good majority of those moments she still had help. Everytime she was in a fight she was either made a laughing stock or was brutally tortured she hardly has any wins regardless if they were hard fought or not. Not being a fighter in an anime with a LOT of fighting (and cheesy power of friendship stuff) is a bad thing. Shes this awesome character yet in the most hype stuff she gets put on the sidelines.
@Fancy Mustache Nobody had saved the guild more times than Lucy in fairy tail except natsu, I don't understand why people are expecting Lucy to be defeating Natsu level opponents, since the beginning she was never a top tier fighter, but that didn't take away from her importance, just because her moments aren't fighting related doesn't mean she wasn't important, Even erza hasn't saved the guild as many times as Lucy. And it's not like she doesn't fight anyways, she took down bickslow(loki is her spirit so that's not help), she took down jackal in the Tataros arc, she took down Capricon(again loki is her Celestial spirit), we all know she could have taken down flair(unfortunate what happened), and spoilers: in the 100 year quest, she took down kiria who is a dragon slayer. This is all excluding all the other things i listed before. She was also the one who saved loki from death. Honestly I feel like you guys are blowing this whole Lucy thing way out of proportion, maybe the reason is because she isn't the one physically doing the fighting or she isn't fighting spriggan 12 level opponents and Honestly it wouldn't make sense for her to take down a spriggan 12 level opponent on her own when even S class wizards struggle. I don't know what more scenes you want because she has gotten plenty, just because they aren't as flashy as natsu scenes doesn't make them not there.
Lucy was ALWAYS done dirty in this series. Whether it was getting knocked out by bullshit, getting just beat the hell up, or getting kidnapped and being a damsel in distress, or just existing only for fan service and comedy scenes it always felt like any strong scene they gave her they had to immediately undermine it, she would constantly get sidelined and treated as weak when she is quite strong. She was so headstrong and had a heart of gold, the guild owes so much to her efforts including it’s reforming after being disbanded in the first place. She put so much effort into the things she does and it really felt like she constantly got robbed of the payoff of her efforts because “someone always had to come save her or protect her” she literally prevented the APOCALYPSE by going back in time to warn everyone. She does not get the credit she deserves

Aquarius didn't hate Lucy. There were multiple moments and even flashbacks that showed that she never hated Lucy. She was harsh and brash but not hateful.
Never knew people think that Aquarius hated Lucy even though its the opposite. Aquarius was originally Lucy's mother Spirit and Aquarius is essentially somewhat a guardian for Lucy when she was younger. Their bond is pretty much strong since Aquarius has been with Lucy when she was little. Aquarius is just strict yet caring.
@@miamaru414 No she didn't, and we know this because of the flashbacks and how she acts at certain times. Also Layla died cause she was completing what her family were tasked to do and it took a toll on her body. Lucy wasn't the main reason, it was a family duty.
If Lucy is Mashima's favourite, I don't even wanna know how he would behave to a girlfriend. It's sadistic, the level of the things done to Lucy throughout the entirety of the anime/manga just for the sake of it with no payoff in the end.
You forget how she SINGLE HANDEDLY summoned the celestial king, and practically gave the. Upper hand on Tartaros, also giving the thrash of her life to Brandish, and ultimately bringing back Natsu rewriting the E.N.D BOOK WRITTEN WITH ANCIENT DARK MAGIC BY ZEREF and CASTING FAIRY SPHERE to stop Acnoligia, (in another timeline came. Back to warn about a gigant war against dragons that killed everyone) not to mention now in 100YQ she beats a Dragon eater in a fight.
Yes this is just the rant on how Lucy isn't a Mary Sue I'd hate to see this person's version of the character and you can like Hiro Mishima as a writer or not but many if the assumptions of him are just gross and FYI he once said lucy is his favorite character
I love Lucy and I agree with most of your points, I would like to add some of mine: -Actually I would have prefered that Lucy had the 12 zodiac keys, leaving them at 10 feels so imcomplete, with the 12 they could have easily made a "Zodiac Dress" ultimate form -I would have loved the Form change a bit early on the story, why? Because it's similar to Erza's power that could have been an interesting relationship for both of them. Mentor and Student, Erza teaching Lucy of how to Adapt in battle since that's something Lucy is kinda good but needs to be more effective -I am sucker for the Zodiac so it's sad thar they never played with the element aspect of the Zodiac signs:Water, Earth, Fire and Wind
Totally agree about bringing the dress magic in earlier. They way it was executed in canon just felt like a huge ass pull. Like Mashima didn't know what to do with her and powering her up like the other main cast during the timeskip, so he slapped on an ability similar to Erza's that opens up a whole bunch of opportunities for fanservice. The way it was done just seemed like a celestial rip off of Erza's power close to the end of the entire story. He dropped the ball. This could've been great if he gave his own main character the time and effort she deserved.
the grand magic game arc is SO FRUSTRATING for me because of Lucy being robbed off😭😭😭 i’ve always wanted to see lucy shines for all the things shes been through BUT NO this is why we cant have nice things
The thing is that it showed she was strong since she technically won but no officially due to the other side cheating. I'm happy that at least Natsu saw it and could tell and we did too but not the rest of the audience
@Juan Paulo Arcillas no to get 8 points in the navel battle inspire natsu and close the gate and save fiore this video is flawed because it only focuses on lucys failures when she had far more success I don't think this person actually watched fairy tail they just read the wiki
@@alicianelson1252 idk tho seems like everybody else thinks the same about the lucy situation. and btw u must have never watched any of thomas vid to say this😂😂😂 gurl why would thomas get to fairytail in the first place if just to read some wiki info, theres no fairytail trend now to get some clout lol. most of us watching this already a subscriber of this channel and know what to expect
One thing that i found strange is that her Magic is similar to this of Jellal because these two are using stars and constellations. Urano Metria itself can seem something that Jellal can do because they have in Base the same magic. But i can't remember ONE time that Lucy ask Jellal for Help or at least ask him about his magic for a better understanding of her own magic and maybe create Spells based on that and i mean something different when star dress
Though the number of times Lucy has seen Jellal can be counted on one hand and a little on the other, and that’s excluding every other iteration of Jellal
@@meisstupid Then Erza, Or Mira like Dark Reunion said above. I'm pretty sure she would have plenty of time to speak with AT LEAST with these two to help her out. Or let Erza or Mira ask her to help her out.
Hiro Mashima really fumbled the bag with Lucy huh. Star Dress is my favorite type of Magic in Fairy Tail (I'm a sucker for Form Change gimmicks in media) so seeing it introduced so late in the series is sad. Though I will never forgive Mashima for all the BS he put Lucy through in the Grand Magic Games. It wasn't enough to have her victory against Flare stolen, she just had to be brutally tortured by Minerva as well. The Silver Keys are such a wasted opportunity because aside from the Zodiac and Ophiuchus, there were over 70 constellations to work with and that's not even getting into former Constellations. We could have seen more Celestial Wizards being badass and showing that you don't need Gold Keys to be a powerful Celestial Wizard. Lucy should have had 5 Gold Keys, Yukino 5, and the princess the other 2. Also, is it weird that we never see any male Celestial Wizards? Has it ever been stated that Celestial Magic is for women only?
It was so hype reading Lucy using her star dress for the first time. I'm a major fan of Erza magic, found that requiping armor and weapons so cool so when Lucy, who I like as a character, sexy and smart (which we dont see often in media), gets a badass upgrade too. I thought she'd finally be up there in terms of power. I mean she has so many keys, she should be. But she only uses like three maybe five of them. But no she still needs to be saved, not as bad in FT100Y. She's better in that but still lacking. Which sucks because she could be strong, maybe even stronger than God slayers but Mashima decides to nerf her! Don't get me started on the "torture" she goes through.
I remember so many people posting about the whole Gajeel torturing Lucy scene and how it was their "favorite moment cuz they hated her so much" and as an AFAB preteen that shit was so startling and kinda traumatizing. Not only was she my favorite, but she was supposed to be the main character
She is the view point character, not the main character. Natsu would be closer to the main character as the story is about how he and the other Dragon Slayers are looking for their dragons and eventually about Natsu defeating Zeref so his brother can finally rest in peace.
Seeing as how Mashima gave her the best moments of the series. I kinda see where he comes from. Saving everyone in tartaros and her rewriting the book of e.n.d. on top of her incredible magic. Lucy didn't need to kick all the ass to become one of my favorite characters. She can fight and will fight when it's necessary, but she had much more important moments than just fights.
@@fattimmy2829Sakura was abandoned in the streets until he he remembers her for a minute and brought her back a bit will Lucy has the most scream time out of the two and has a stronger role than her as well as growing they are not the same. That’s like saying a fish and a rabbit are safe on land only one of them are able to say that they have care put into them.
lucy heartfilia has improved a great deal in the manga. she’s able to hold her own against extremely strong enemies, and even dragon slayers. she’s been given constant power ups and that’s just only the beginning of her magic. i expect big things from her when the anime comes back. they better do my girl right this time.
Lucy is an interesting case of a deuteragonist. She isn't the villain, she isn't the main hero, but she is the most important character in line. She acts as the view point into Earthland, being that she is a sheltered rich girl who only ever heard of fairy tail through megazines, the idea that we were learning about the world of magic alongside her, but that she wasn't a complete non-entity herself was pretty interesting. She always pitches in to help, she always has some kind of idea or comes to a conclusion about something that other characters won't. From figuring out that Daybreak was Dear Kaby, to having an actual slugfest with Shery in Galuna, to having the Phantom Lord arc happen because of her family situation. Lucy is important and she shows growth over the course of series. Be it by slowly mastering Uranometria, or gaining the Star Dress spell as a result of Aquarius' sacrifice, and even helping defeat Acnologia at the end by learning how to cast Fairy Sphere. She was always there. Always helping, always involved even if not the main. P.S: Yeah, the Grand Magic Games did her SO DIRTY. I was quite mad about it myself.
i didn't mind the lucy torture scene in phantom lord bc i saw her egging gajeel on with that chilling grimance/grin as her refusing to giving up control to phantom and her father. however, none of her other defeats and torture scenes have that impact, either from overexposure or just how voyeuristic they are. i like what they're doing w her magic in 100 year quest rn, but i also want to see more of that 5/5 on the intelligence scale in GMG. in a series like ft, a "work smarter, not harder" protagonist is so needed.
So glad I found your comment, because one problem I have with Lucy being taken and "tortured" Is that it's not really torture. It's not even emotional torture either. They hit and beat sure but doing that isn't the only way to torture someone, and she always gets saved so she never gets stabbed or something and ends with a scar. It's suppose to hurt but she doesn't really get hurt if that makes sense. I also wish they had more intelligent fights than just punch, kick and magic fights.
I also find it annoying that you only get highly analytical & intellectual protagonists in stories where that's the only solution such as death games or puzzle games. Whenever it's an action adventure/shonen, it's often, if not always, "punching the wall until it breaks" with no analysis whatsoever
I remember that. I actually found that first instance with Gajeel quite powerful and well done, because even though Lucy was being straight-up tortured she NEVER broke, and it actually got to showcase what an amazing inner strength she had - unlike every single other similar scene.
Lucy was so underrated when FT was ongoing. I was in the trenches defending her because everyone called her useless (even though she was never useless). The Tartaros arc fight was honestly so hype. Lucy deserved more moments of cool badassery. I'm calling it misogyny, the way characters like Lucy Heartphilia and Sakura Haruno are treated by author and fans alike. Thanks for this video.
Lucy doesn't even compare to how BAD Sakura was written. Lucy actually gets strong and progresses as a character, even on the on-going manga. Sakura doesn't. Sakura gets forgotten FOREVER, her power is stuck at one point and Lucy still continues to grow and catch up with her team mates. The person who's being done the worst rn in the manga is actually Gray, some might argue Lucy has grown strong enough to beat him.
Sidelined? everyone is expecting Lucy to be a fighter but she isn't that type of character, Lucy has been important and played a role in every single arc, she casted fairy sphere to seal acnologia(the final villian), she closed the eclipse gate and basically saved the world, she suffered keeping natsu alive after natsu killed zeref, she is the one who motivated everyone in the laxus arc to destroy the thunder palace, she saved every fairy tail member from the King of the underworld attack in the Tataros arc buy summoning the celestial king. @@verdurite no one said that,I think Elie from Rave Master was a well written female protagonist but I'm just saying facts,Natsu is clearly the protagonist and I don't get how people think Lucy is.
The part that broke me for her was after everything but right after the Tartaros arc when she lost her mother figure to save everyone and lost her last connection to her mom for her guild and the people she considered her new family. They all just Fing left her, some without even a word to her. Like they all went on their own journeys as couples or groups and not one person thought about her really. Even after the time Skip to when natsu and happy come back and she has a job as a reporter, it took them seeing her board she has been putting together to find everyone for them to even realize that she was basically abandoned by this new family that she thought she was an important part of. And then they play it off as, welp, we’re back together now let’s get the group back together. No apology, nothing. It was just devastating.
Thomas, I would like to thank you for making this video, talking about how Lucy is the best character of Fairy Tail and you’ve managed to articulate my thoughts on how the show (and by extension the writers) treats her. It’s such a crime that Lucy gets hounded so badly and stuck to shoddy fanservice humour, Lucy deserves more than just cheap eye candy. Her greatest feats and strength are her heart and mind, I am *so* sick of the fandom thinking that Lucy is weak when she’s the complete opposite!! From day one of me getting into the anime, Lucy was the first character to ever catch me and become my favourite character. She’s a multilayered character with a great personality and deep backstory, her magic is incredibly unique (earning more points cause her motif is centred around stars and I love star/cosmic themed characters and magics) and it really saddens me as a Lucy fan to always have her victories blindsided or matter so little in the long run. Let Lucy show she’s able to be a badass woman without the needless torture and sexualisation.
Side note: Why didn’t Lucy obtain Caelum’s key along with Aries, Gemini and Scorpio? That would’ve made Lucy’s Silver Key Spirits more competent and badass
Yeah I fell in love with Lucy! She’s amazing and awesome and her Fairy Tail mark became an airbrush tattoo for me, one day I want to get a tattoo of it
No one really thinks Lucy is weak but Erza's, Lisanna's, and maybe Juvia's fans, the first one is because she is a shitty character and they don't want people to notice that, the other two is just because of shipping.
@@hessa2838 Lisanna barely matter anyway, just for one or two arcs at best. Erza is strong and has a strong personality I think, I liked her and Lucy the best in Fairy tail when I first watched it. For Juvia she is a potential waisted with her skimping constantly on Gray, she has a great magic and could do so much better with it, such a shame
@@darkreunion7882 I really like Juvia as well, I do agree that most of her strength and what makes her great is overshadowed by her obsession with Gray.
I’m so glad someone else sees all the greatness in Lucy that I do. She’s literally one of my top comfort characters because her character and tenacity are really something special. It makes me so upset that her chances to shine were often overshadowed or muddled with death, sacrifice or tragedy. She really experienced some of the worst treatment (imo) on the show and deserved so much better. loved the video
Lucy is probably the first female character that I looked up to as a kid watching Fairy Tail. I love her and what she stands up for. I also got very upset when she were done dirty like GMG ;-; and the fact that some people still dicredited her when she has done a lot for the guild & its members (tartaros, rewriting END) pissed me off. I also think that her power could be explore even more, celestial magic is limitless.
I don't know why but she is litterally my favorite character in all of anime. There's something about her personality, flaws, and magic that draws me to her. Watching her grow to where she is in the manga and to keep growing will always bring a smile to my face.
Sameeee I think what drew me to her was her being so relatable and funny I will forever be her lawyer and defend her and praise her. She's an amazing character
Lucy is a great character. I can't wait to see a 100 years quest get animated. Their is a couple of Lucy fights that I really want to see in animated format. Her star dress mixes will also be awesome to see animated.
A video on Lucy will always get a watch out of me. I think they really wrote Lucy and her magic into a hole, with her getting 9 of the 12 keys by the oracion seis arc, then trying to remedy the exclusivity of celestial wizard by having most of them killed by neo oracion seis. I wish they would of introduced the Chinese zodiac to add a bit more, or maybe just spaced out how she gets her gold keys.
Her exploring the powers of her spirits make more sense - Star Dress is great, her utilising less common powers of her spirits - like Star Memory spell to cast Gottfried in 100YQ? That's good progression. Also Chinese Zodiac isn't star related concept. If Mashima wanted to expand her summoning group - he could have given her more Silver Keys. Spirit's power always depends on the wizard either way, and she has shown that she can use those in clever way. Cross and Horologium being vital throughout the story.
Next time i hope we see juvia, she's named as a very powerful mage multiple time but all her fight are jokes and she never fight with her all, even her fight with grey is a joke.
I get so mad about that she went from being a threat to a love sick puppy dog.But that's common in the show.Alot of characters are wasted don't even get me started on lisanna.
What I hated about her magic is that they never let her use any other spells from her Hyper Magic that she learned from Hibiki when he downloaded them all into her brain she only ever used Urano Metria and Gottfried and I think that spell was on filler
Because he only downloaded Uranometria. Also she learned Gottfried from Hisui, and it isn't a filler. 100YQ canonised it, by Lucy using Star Memory to cast Gottfried again. I mean she really doesn't need those - not when Star Dress gives her endless opportunities. Using Aquametria, nuke attacks from Star Mix, powered up Lucy Kicks and Punches + her whip.
@@mjm3091 I’d have to disagree with you they make it a point to have Lucy say that there’s all these spells in her head and also we get to see all the bars downloading all of those hyper magic spells around her also another thing even if she didn’t get all of the hyper magic spells downloaded into her mind with even having just one hyper magic spell (I’m an anime only so I haven’t seen 100 year quest so please no spoilers) she could still learn all the other ones if she already has one why not the rest it would widen her skill set and not have to make her the damsel in distress all the time and don’t talk about her Lucy kicks those are for comedic purposes 😭 also her whip literally does nothing unless she’s in her Taurus form I want Lucy to be extremely powerful she’s always taking the backseat or gets completely taken over by Natsu I just really want more for Lucy and not just to have her for fan service that literally no one asked for it’s old and quite honestly stupid
@@RestInFlames I think you watched a mistranslation - he only transfered Uranometria. She says "all those words" - which makes sense as Uranometria has not only incantantion, but its also a complicated spell.

Lucy heartfilia will forever be my favourite anime girl of all time She's such an amazing character. I 100% agree that she deserves better but what I want to talk about is from some ppl who watched the show blindly. Lucy hate always stems from the fact that she wasn't strong and hardly used to do much. Lucy was a newbie in fairy tail. She never used magic for fighting before joining fairy tail and she just started out. She did not train or grow up like others. Idk why these ppl expected her to be so strong like the others and do so many things even after witnessing how new Lucy was to that lifestyle. Lucy is a character we are meant to see develop and get stronger slowly and that's what she did and funny enough even though Lucy wasn't strong before. She still never gave up and always kept a strong mind even in the face of an enemy. She endured Alot and still found a way to be strong. She is so strong willed and that's the reason why she's my fav. She's also funny and relatable like yes in the beginning she complained Alot but it's because she was new and frankly I found her complaints relatable asf😭 They have misjudged this girl and do not cut her any slack whatsoever and just hate on her stupidly. Lucy is well loved and at the same time hated. There were literally ig account made just to hate on her☠️(whoever made those I hope you rot). Lucy deserves better
Lucy was always my favorite character. I loved her personality, her magic, her story. I always wished that she had better treatment. She honestly me want to become a writer. Watching Fairy Tail helped me so much in some of my hardest times and Lucy was a huge factor in that. I'm really glad you're talking about my Celestial Queen 💜.
I love Lucy she's determined, kind, and upbeat. No matter what hell she goes through she's always keeping her head up. But I do wish she had more moments to shine rather than at last minute in the final season. She deserved better treatment. And that scene where she's used as fanservice while getting beaten up by Minerva is just disgusting! Why should the audience be turned one while seeing someone getting beaten up? It's not sexy at all! Aside from that she deserved better than what she got.
I agree Lucy needs more character development on her own that doesn’t involved the other characters I do love her by the way her voice actor voices Asuna
I'm not sure what your getting at a character can't develop without interacting with other characters a problem with Wendy's story is that scenes with her are one sided she always develops but the person she's talking to never does
Lucy has consistently grown in power over the course of the series going from collecting new keys, to learning star magic, to channeling spirit outfits, and combining outfits in 100 year quest. She has grown alot and developed her magic to the point that she is a fighter alongside S rank mages like Erza. It comes late but 100 year quest is getting an anime that can just be treated as a continuation of the series. I do agree that many of her spirits aren't as useful as they should be, and I was kinda pissed when another spirit summoner shows up and basically locks her out of 3 of the keys. Imagine if she proved herself and bonded with all 12 spirits to one day channel all them into a power surpassing any of the other main characters.
Lucy has definitely become a favorite of mine over multiple rewatches, because Fairy Tail was my first anime so I have to rewatch so I don't get blinded by bias. Over the course of those rewatches, however, things do become constantly back and forth in certain points in the story of whether I like them or not. That said, Lucy's treatment is one of them, but I do enjoy how Mashima made Lucy possibly one of the most relatable characters ever. While she does get sidelined too much, she still has prevailed as a favorite of mine, and I just wish she was given more time to shine, and less of those damn Golden Keys XD Anyway, enjoying the FT content so far, and I hope to see more of it or any content you have coming up!!
I like Lucy. But I hate Mashima usage of her. She could be so powerful if he LET HER USE HER KEYS! Everyone seems to hate her having so many keys but it's realistic in if that's her magic of course she'll collect them. Especially the golden keys. I mean it's somewhat a joke that Erza collects outfits and that she has so many of them. The problem is Lucy has so many but only uses FIVE OF THE SAME ONES! Even fanfiction has done better at writing her fully use her keys. I enjoy watching FT and have enjoyed reading FT100Y but it hurts to know she could be like Maki or Kugasaki from JJK but isn't because Mashima can't do it right.
I've always had a soft spot for Lucy ever since I first checked the anime out last year. Since then, she has become one of my favorite characters of the series. Gotta admit, Cherami Leigh's voice for this character was what got me watching it in the first place. I just think it sounds pretty cute.
Ah Lucy, my constellation-wielding queen, and my easy fave of fairytail for being both the emotional core and also having very human flaws. That feeling of having Lucy play the gag character for so long just made her feel like... Mashima's fave chew-toy, so much that it eclipses all of the wonderful traits that made me love her so much. I read fairytail for Lucy in the end, but every time she was featured, it felt like panel after panel in the manga of wasted potential. Fairytail has a lot of flaws that made me painfully aware of the author's hands in the story and Lucy's characterisation and how she was drawn in every second panel made me lose my suspension of disbelief in the story, so I dropped reading it. Watching this brought back a lot of bittersweet feelings for fairytail, you did an excellent job showing why Lucy is such a beautiful and delightful character to follow in fairytail, and how that pay-off always seemed to feature a punchline than a genuine pay-off.
I think the thing I hate the most about Lucy‘s treatment is that it doesn’t matter what she does someone always overshadows her or the thing she did, doesn‘t mean anything in the end.
I love love love that you're talking about Lucy, I remember you liking one of my comments on a Winx club video where you mentioned Fairy Tail for a moment. Been a big lover of Lucy from since the first episode. I'm literally so happy that someone is giving her character love.
Thanks for standing for my girl, Lucy definitely deserves better, you succeeded in put into words what I think about my girl, Fairy Tail was my first anime and Lucy ever since has never lose her place as my favorite anime character, cuz simply how human she is. she is the kind of character I look up and makes me feel stronger and I can try to keep up
Man when you mentioned that part where Lucy mourns the death of her father, I cried just thinking about it. That part of the show has just always bought tears to my eyes.
Theres a lot of criticisms you gave that were definitely valid, but theres a few I disagree on: - the Phantom Lord arc. While I agree this was one of "Lucy's arcs", I disagree that it was supposed to be about her coming into her power. This arc was supposed to be about her solidifying her bond with Fairy Tail, and the empowerment she gains by being with people who care about her and protect her. By her realizing that shes no longer alone, nor is she surrounded by people who just want something from her, this gives her strength to finally stand up to her father and really find an emotional home. To me, Lucy grew a ton during this arc. No, she wasnt a badass with power levels off the charts, but she did find her courage and inner strength. - her spirits. While I agree that there are a lot of times that they dont do their jobs as well as they could, i believe this also speaks to their relationship with Lucy. She allowed them to be their authentic selfs and treated like people instead of tools. And when it really comes down to it, they always show up for her when she really needs them, even if she doesnt summon them herself. Lucy to me is a character that is meant to exemplify strength in bonds and relationships with others rather than physical strength or power. Even tho she takes a lot of Ls throughout the series, she touches others hearts in meaningful ways throughout the series and is able to reach even the most stubborn characters. I think in reality, that is her true strength as a character.
Exactly. I hate how people say that whenever a character in a shonen series isn’t good just because they aren’t on the front lines is stupid. A character doesn’t need to be a perfect fighter to be well written
Lucy in lore: strongest celestial mage I'm existence, carrying a supermajority of the strongest magic available to her class. Lucy in fights: beaten to a pulp with useless magic.
The first half of the inifity clock arc, I actually didn't clock into the fact that it was a filler arc. It was progressing very smoothly until we got to the part where Lucy became a damsel. Then it just fell apart and I was like 'Oh yeah, this is a filler arc'.
I feel that Celestial Spirit Magic has so many flaws for what the franchise tells that was for smallest gain to use just one key. I always find out Silver Keys were retcon out of the show. Since most Celestial Spirit Mages often just has Golden Keys. Which is kinda sad since some Silver Keys since even better than Golden Ones. I feel that Lucy didnt got the last 2 Golden Keys because people often theorized that when Lucy got the 12 golden keys, something major would happen. We didnt see much of CS Mages but i wonder what other CS Mages ever thought of the possibility of never getting a Golden Key. Since 12 Keys have have an owner. What do they train for? What is their goal? I feel that often sexualizing of the female character end up to me abandoning the series complete. It feel that creator wanted to make hentai and was forced to make a Shoen Manga Franchise.
well - most of them are dead, that was a major plotpoint, that Celestial wizards were hunted down to almost extinction, also you have seen with Sorano - that some of them, would even kill to get those Golden Keys, but most of them didn't bother - Silver ones clearly were enough, especially as Golden Keys were fully controlled by Heartfilia family ever since Eclipse became a thing
@@mjm3091 Sorano killing Karen is somewhat grey area. Karen was weaken due to Loki's premant summoning himself to punish Karen after her was abusing her keys spirit.
@@mjm3091the keys were introduced at first as mildly rare at best, with even random small shops having a handful of bronze ones to offer and one silver one being a special deal. Kind of like how a used car dealership might luck out and have a second hand luxury car to offer. Rare sure but not impossible for normal people The celestial mages hunted to extinction is definitely a retcon, since we are clearly meant to see them as a bit rare but not nearly extinct
@@frankwest5388 not redcon. It was an event that happened during the duration of the show. They were rare early on but before the Zentopia cult tragedy - we actually have seen multiple Celestial Wizards. Then the hunt started during the 7 years skip, and was finished during Key of the Starry Heaven arc. And since then we have stopped seeing any Celestial Wizards - with the last few claiming all the remaining golden keys.
it feels like everytime its time for Lucy to have a moment to shine its always against someone who is shown to be the weakest of all the enemies, her best moment when she summons the spirit king is against 3 enemies already almost beaten so she just does the finish touches, but its a great scene and moment for her. at least we finally have an idea of a super move for her passed urano metria in 1000 year quest with her stardress combine attack/mode that combines 2 of her celestial spirits abilities together.
A part of me believes that one of the reasons mashima made 100 year quest was to make up for all the crap he put lucy through in the og series. Girl got Ws in this one.
@@_StarXDust_ tbh. We don't know, if she will succeed. Very likely she will have to fight against her and still has to win against Brandish to even get the key back. Its really nice idea for a come back of a character and proper price to the sacrifice that was made.
Ohhhh, I haven't watched fairy tail since I was a child! Like, I think I haven't seen it since I was eleven? I watched it for the first time in elementary school. But Michelle's story stayed with me for years. Even just remembering it... tears. I loved Michelle so so much! Juvia, Loke, Mavis, Wendy, Ultear, and Michelle were my favorite as a kid! Man, this is such a trip down memory lane. You're totally right, regarding Lucy, but oddly, despite this being a criticism, it made me remember my fond feelings for this show. Maybe I should rewatch it? Ah, but it's so long. Maybe not.
A lot of it is how Lucy, while no slouch when compared to the average wizard in that setting, is weak when compared to those she is often with in Fairy Tail. And given that her team often goes up against similarly powerful opponents, she tends to be the one who is scrambling. At the same time, she is often able to out think her opponents, showing that her biggest asset in those battles is her mind. And it should be kept in mind that she was the one who rewrote E.N.D.'s book to undo the damage to it and to also prevent Zeref's death from killing Natsu in real time. And there is the fact that she was the central caster for a Fairy Sphere to keep Acnologia trapped while he fought Natsu and the other Dragon Slayers. And of her team, she is the weak one. And she is more powerful than most magic users in the setting. But again, given who her team tends to fight, this tends to show much less. Interestingly, those fights where she had to handle an opponent without aid, are ones she tended to win more often than not. She does make up for her relative lack of power when compared to the others with her skill.
I wish we also got more of Lucy learning how to fight (hand to hand combat) because as someone who is often over powered without her keys you would think she would wanna know how to defend herself. Also I hate how most of her zodiac signs either sexualize her, are sexualized, or are just plain rude/annoying I mean I feel like it was funny the first few episodes but I also feel that as the series went on they should have made her signs more serious instead of just comic relief or fan service. Lucy’s character had and has so much potential and their only now just tapping into that and it’s disappointing. Lucy’s magic is one of the most interesting types and so rare too! I hope they do her better in the 100 year quest arc. One more thing, I HATE how they never really show how smart she is. Every time the team needs to figure something out they go to levy but people forget that Lucy spent most of her life locked up in her room reading books I mean she literally loves reading you’d think they’d showcase her smarts more instead of making her a “ditsy blonde” we need less damsel in distress from Lucy I want her to be able to defend herself and have a “I’m still standing” moment and defeat a STRONG villain by herself! Thank for reading ❤
I agree with you, especially in the movies, Lucy don't get to fight. Yes she's not as strong as the other team members. But Lucy's magic is versatile, I'm pretty sure She can beat someone with that. Defeating someone is not just about strength you know?
my family was never there for me emotionally and did the bare minimum. food shelter and education. fairy tail helped me realize what family was, and introduced me to the type of bond, pride, and love that you could feel with anyone.. blood related or not. it taught me how to teach people with kindness. i became more generous and protective of my friends. i’ll never forget the feeling of watching the first couple arcs of fairy tail when the intros would come on. fairy tail is trash. it could’ve been taken more seriously. and i know that because Mashima has made FT arcs that are impeccable. But its MY trash. i love it. its my comfort and the blueprint of that family I wish to find in the future. fairy tail forever 🧚🏽♀️❤👆🏽
This is a punch in the gut, because I know all those issues and still cry about them. Lucy is such an interesting character, growing more and more, but somehow still getting the short stick everywhere.
My issue is that Lucy never really gets to GROW in her power. Mainly because Fairy Tail has an issue with power inconsistency and keeps introducing characters with godlike levels of power. No matter how strong she gets, she can always get outclassed by almost anyone - like this girl loses a LOT on her own. Also I hate how they never delve deeper into her learning how to cast spells on her own. Like take this girls keys from her and she’s toast. The Star Dresses were an improvement but I would’ve liked if she learned how to use her own magic.
"too little, too late" is the best way to describe lucy. unfortunately, i feel like most people remember lucy as the character she was portrayed as for hundreds of episodes and not the badass she became in the very last arc. she's not the protagonist so maybe she didn't have to be at the center of everything, but it's so unfair how she was treated vs. the other main side characters. if she was allowed erza's emotional development, gray's moments of having meaningful fights, and wendy's development in terms of strength and fighting skills, she really had the potential to be the best character in the show
Am i the only one who feels like we never really learn that much about celestial magic, considering how often we see it? Also, bad things seem to happen to celestial mages. I always got the feeling that celestial magic was dangerous.
Whewwww I remember watching that episode where she returned to her dad’s letters and gifts, I cried so much, he loved Lucy so much but worked hard and all he ever knew was work, he didn’t know how to love Lucy but being apart, missing her and slowly learning how to show his love and attempts at healing their relationship made my heart so warm
Lucy is my favorite Fairy Tail character! She’s smart, kind, funny, and powerful, she just gets put in absurdly unfair situations which is why she has a harder time than the other characters
I always felt cringed about the sexualization bs on Fairy Tail but I did enjoy how well crafted the emotional scenes are and how good the drama and the hype was executed every time. Lucy was and is my favorite character for the same reasons as posted above, damn I really enjoyed Fairy Tail so it felt like a break up for me when I dropped it after Flare's fight. It was beyond frustrating. "If Mashima keeps doing this to Lucy, I'll stop him myself by dropping this"
Honestly I don’t mind Lucy being a weaker wizard compared to the rest of the gang cuz the rest are already OP and we need balance y’oniw? BUT that does not mean Lucy is weak but this show CONSTANTLY puts her in situations where she is incapable of fully showing her strength as a wizard or when she does finally pop off it gets over written! I’ll never forgive the Flare fight because it was unnecessary. The author could have chosen ANYONE ELSE yo show how that team was cheating but they chose Lucy? This was the first time that Lucy could finally truly show every wizard in Fiore that she was not just the “heart” of the main group but she could also kick ass! And they just nuke the whole fight? With no redemption? Yes she came in second in the Minerva fight and she showed guts cuz she never surrendered but what most of these wizards will remember is not a full out hard earned win because she’s powerful (like she would’ve gotten in the Flare fight) but a loss (flare) and a beating and them being like “she deserves second because she took the beating like a champ” instead of she earned second because she fought well because Minerva tortured her instead of just kicking her out
I absolutely love Fairy Tail, my favorite anime ever, and I could write paragraphs about each character, but since this is about Lucy, I'll focus on her. When she managed to summon the Spirit King, all of her spirits at once (After learning that should be impossible because Karen tried to summon just two), it gave me goosebumps. Then when she used gemini to cast Uranometria during the Grand Magic games, it gave me chills. She is such a strong, emotional, loving, powerful character who grows so much during the entire show, and I can't wait to see her in 100 year quest. I may have more comments, this is my 10 minute thoughts
Question: since Lucy and jellals magic both revolve around the stars, and she already knows urano metria which never got used In The final series for some reason, and that ability seemed to be an ultimate/one shot for anyone it hit, shouldn’t she be able to learn grand chariot?
Lucy hate always pisses me off i was on this anime website rewatching tartaros arc earlier and there was a bunch of ppl calling her useless and also ts person calling her useless and other unnecessary words and making 9 comments about it its really not fair i feel like she just looks weak because all the characters shes around are just really strong shes also saved the guids as5es a bunch of times but she still gets sh1t its not fair YES IM WRITING TS LONG ASS COMMENT IM LETTING OUT ALL MY FRUSTRATIONS THAT IVE HELD IN FOR YEARS lucy is my comfort character i love her
You have absolutely no idea how long I’ve been waiting for a video like this . I watched fairy tail when I was younger and it holds a very special place in my heart. My favorite character is Lucy too and I’ve had many many rants about how dirty she is done by the show and how much better of a character she would have been if she wasn’t. This might be weird but you making all the points that you did helped heal something within younger me?? I remember crying for her on many accounts just because of sheer frustration for her (especially in the GMG). So from one Lucy stan to another thank you so very much for this video ❤.
If people are looking for fanfic recommendations here, especially about Lucy being a stronger wizard than in canon, I recommend the Flames of Friendship series on AO3 and FFnet, it's a very long series overall, going on across 6 different stories over 8 years, but it does include plenty of Lucy moments where she grows and showcases what she can really do at times. It does seem a little dated at first, since it started in 2013 but the quality does improve fast!
I know nothing about Fairy Tail but hearing your videos in the background while I do things is relaxing for me... Guess im learning about how they did Lucy wrong today lol
Celestial Spirits being limited to the Celestial King, 12 golden keys, infinite silver keys, is what stumped Lucy's character. Mashima should have made other, more powerful Celestials, so that even if Lucy gathers all 12 golden keys, there would still be more to explore. In fact, the only other Celestial Wizard I remember is Yukino (who has a 13th golden key which was never used again?) And she NEVER learned more than 2 or 3 super S-Class Celestial spells that she never re-used. :( EDIT: I'd say you forgot to mention the lack of closure for her saving Natsu from dying at the end of the series by re-writing his book. It kinda just happens and we all brush it off. Would have loved to see Natsu say that instead of his demonic seed there is something that Lucy put in its place. Hell, Gray even waits for her to be done writing to dispel away the demon energy she absorbed while rewriting the book.
Lucy has always been my favorite character! I feel like you gave Lucy so much justice in this and I appreciate you so much! She never gets enough credit!
So far some of her fights in the 100 year quest are oaky. But she could use longer fights that show how much she's progressed and will contiune to become stronger. Then again I think every character needs to have a longer fights that show how much better they've become since the final series.
I really love fairy tail and I appreciate how Mashima doesn’t kill anyone it’s very “old school” in the current anime landscape it’s very heart warming
I was frothing at the mouth when Star Dress was introduced. I think the final season could have been about her learning the Star Dress mix. Or maybe she learns how summon the Celestial King Star dress, I've seen some great fan art of an armored Lucy. It could have been so cool.
I really wish the writer leaned more into giving Lucy more sub magic abilities. She's a Celestial mage, have her draw magic and power from the stars, give her rituals that vary depending on certain celestial phenomenon like a Supernova, full moon, eclipses, solstices, comets. If Lucy learned to partial Summon like Bayonetta or Yuna from Dissidia, that could have circumvented, even fixed the drawback of Lucy only being able to summon 2-3 spirits before running out of magic power; Summoning Taurus torso up to swing his axe for an attack, Lucy opening a portal and only Aries's fluff coming out to block an attack, summoning a portal for Scorpio's to shoot sand. After the dark spirit arc, I would have loved to have seen Lucy learn a spell that lets her augment her spirits, letting them tap into the powers or even forms of their dark selves. Then we have summoner and scholar from FFXIV, I'd love to see Lucy in a team tactician role. Perhaps her celestial magic can temporarily banish her opponents to the celestial spirit world, or seal their power. Have her be a type of evoker where she can enchant and further enhance her spirits power through out a fight. Lucy's fighting style should be that of a glass cannon tactician with heat and cool down times. Staying at a range with long range attacks to provide cover fire for the spirits she summons, balancing her own damage with the support she provides her spirits. When she is in close range with her enemies, have her use partial summons until she can get into the back line again.
Or she is that, but an indiana jones version of it that also is resourcful and crafty, but not strong per se. And it would great i she could do support magic on spirits too.
im only on the "who is lucy" part and I'm sobbing over how much I love lucy heartfillia and how much no one in the planet seemed to get why I did -- knowing other people love her too makes me so happy
I feel like it’s no logical reason Aquarius hates her so bad when she served her mom. Like her mom wouldn’t be happy how she treats her daughter. Just for her to cry in the end smh
The thing is, when it comes to fighting, lucy had just started when she joined fairytail , while everyone else had been training since they are children. she has less experience but is progressing. all the other characters were already powerful from the beginning while lucy was basically just starting to embrace her magic
Lucy and Natsu seem like the main character split into two. Lucy is a driving force of the plot, without her story cannot move forward. At this time, Natsu is almost unimportanr for most arcs and he's only added for cool fights. You may not agree with me, but I didn't think Lucy weakness was a bad thing. I always saw her as an example "you don't have to be strong to be an important part of the team." (although I agree losing to Flare was a stupid decision by the writers. Lucy is also my favorite character, probably because she most resembles the original wizard. She is physically weak, but has enormous magical powers. (She can summon a literal tsunami or copy someone's magic.) Sometimes I feel that certain spirits could solve most problems, which is why Mashima didn't want to use them. (Gemini's power is too OP which is why they almost never appears.)
Lucy is a favorite character of mine as well. I like how intelligent, kind and sometimes sassy she is, and her magic is also incredibly interesting. That's why I really feel you with a lot of moments where she gets done dirty thanks to the somewhat underwhelming writing of her scenes. Despite this, I have a ridiculous amount of love for her moments, even when she loses and gets beaten. Of course, that doesn't mean that I think those moments are done perfectly. I agree with many points you make in the video, and it has actually inspired me to think of the changes that could've been made into the story to make her moments better. So, here are a few things that would've probably made her moments more fair and impactful (in my humble opinion, that is). Firstly, in the GMG arc, I would've established the magic-nullifying guy by making other characters lose their battles against Raven Tail because of him too (for example, Gray and some other character from another guild). That way, it wouldn't feel as unfair to Lucy as it is in the canon. Second of all, in that same arc, I would've given her another battle between the two we've seen where she actually gets to show off her skills AND win. It would've made this arc not feel like a massive fiasco for her character and made the sad moments much more enjoyable at the same time. I wouldn't have changed her canon fights though because I really love how they either establish Lucy's battle IQ and great skills or her loyalty to the guild. Besides, I find the battle against Minerva to be an excellent way to introduce her properly to the audience, showing her cruel nature. Third of all, I would've made some changes to her spirits. Not only would I have made them more useful, but I would've also focused on Gemini and Capricorn more as they are WILDLY underappreciated for how powerful they are. That said, I would've also probably added a few in-between episodes (like the cherry blossom one, for example) that explore Lucy's relationship with Aquarius and show us the tender side of their bond to make the Tartaros fight hit much harder. Lastly, I would've also probably made a small change to the Oracion Seis arc by having Lucy mention something about hearing of Uranometria and never being able to find the actual spell anywhere despite trying hard to do so. I think that it would've made Hibiki's help make more sense as Lucy would've been shown as an intelligent and curious person she is, yet he still would have gotten to show off his magic and help out. A win-win situation. Oh, and less fanservise, of course! And, on a side note, more moments of Lucy writing her novel! Anyway, thanks for making this very engaging video ;) It was quite fun thinking about all these possible changes to the story to make it better. P. S. You know the moment is hella awesome when you start crying just from seeing it months or even years after watching it... The scene where Lucy loses her dad still hits very hard and has me sobbing uncontrollably
Idk Lucy was strong and was also the main character many times. It just that she was the Heart character of the group, Natsu Grey and Ezra. And less so the smart one. Lucy is almost always central to the plot. But rarely does she get the end game finish fight even if she played a more important part
on the tartaros arc and lucy escaping the spell that trapped all her friends. in the manga, one of her silver keys is holorogium. a grandfather clock, basically, and can activate himself regardless of lucy summoning him or not if lucy's life is in danger by briefly transporting lucy into the clock and... temporarily into the spirit world? but only once a day and usually... at the cost of her clothing. this was how lucy escaped the tartaros spell, and holorogium warned her to be careful because he won't be able to save her the second time. though my pet peeve is how her family isn't as well explored as it should. in the manga (dunno abt show), jude tells lucy that he met layla in a wizard's guild called... lucky, or something? but the K fell off, and that's the reason they decided to name lucy, lucy. which is great! it's cute! but it's not nearly as fleshed out as it needs to be! hiro mashima what the heck do you mean they met in a small wizard's guild?? jude is a wizard??? no, this was never explained.
you dont know how glad I am to see a video like this, I remember discovering and staying for your winx club videos and I would never think of Fairytail being brought up in this channel!! I love Lucy for the same reason you do, although I'm not an author, I do love to write. I remember when I was in middle school, I would copy lucy and I would write my own letters as a way to cope thru tough times. Sadly, Hiro Mashima kinda sucks at making Lucy a character who is truly perfect (idk why she had to go thru that voodoo villain, we never speak of that guy)
Lucy and her dad’s messy relationship and his death hits harder after my own dad, who had left my family, died. He even did the same thing Lucy’s dad did, tried to connect with us close to his death, but at that point I was too angry with him to want to talk. And even now, sometimes I don’t care, sometimes I resent him, and sometimes I’m sad.
Lucy doesn't Deserve The Hate when I got into The Show She seems actually Pretty Cool and She Proved Herself that she's Not a Damsel in Distress and Learns How to Kick A** and That's why Lucy is The Best Girl of Fairy Tail and The Future Wife of Natsu!
The whole series deserved better. I mean, yes, it is still a very charming and lovable series, but it could've been so much more. A better balance between comedy and serious moments, a better understanding of its own characters. less asspulls only to satisfy the fans, less meaningless shock moments, only to take them back if the consequences are too heavy for the fans to handle. It's just a feeling, but it feels like Mashima wanted to do more but caved in in front of the fans. BUT thank god, fanfiction exists
I've always had a problem with the fact that Lucy never had a chance to go and learn more about her magic. I know that Fanfiction doesn't count, but the amount of fanfic that has Lucy being able to grow as a wizard is amazing.
Can you recommend some fanfics like this?

Lucy deserved Mermaid heel or Sabertooth, not FT.
But most importantly she deserved a better writer that did not use her to make his all-time western fav baby "the only badass one" in the expanse of Lucy's right to develop as a magician.
Lucy was done so freaking dirty in the Grand Magic Games arc and I’m still not over it!
I still reel over how Lucy’s most powerful spell got dispelled at the last second
for sure, flare (and mashima) must pay for her crimes

I forgot what happened to that imp from Zeref
Its Natsu, the protagonist is always Natsu even stated by Mashima. Just cus shes the narrator doesnt make her the main protagonist
Theyre just both main characters
Also, being a narrator isnt an argument for being an MC.
@@mjm3091 100 year quest even shows alot of how her power has developed and continues to. She is actually one of the strongest fighters in the guild.
@@joelsasmad i’m so happy to hear that but also slightly sad that they didnt allow that to happen much during the main series but i’ll take it!
If it makes u feel better I think … I think (i havent reread) Edens Zero does a better job with Rebecca. I think.
I mean she was doomed to be the damsels in distress from the start. Her power is to call other people to fight for her
This why I read fanfiction, female character always get the short end of the stick. A lot of Mangaka don’t seem to see their female character as person and independent character
The scene where Lucy is reading the last letter from her dad is easily in my Top 3 of Fairy Tail scenes that make me cry... Everytime I watch it.
Mine was when she sacrificed Aquarius that shit made me bawl easily number one for me.
I have a list too, and literally all top 3 are Lucy 😅 1) losing Aquarius, 2) reading Natsu's goodbye letter, 3) reading the letter from her dad. Girlie carried the emotional portions of the show
Same here. It was heartwarming
Fairy Tail had a lot of pretty great emotional scenes. It never fails to hit one in the feels. Such a great show and story.
I've loved Lucy ever since I started Watching Fairy Tail years ago. She's strong, outspoken, and loves her friends ❤

Yeah i think we all know esp after watchinf her death that Aquarius didnt hate Lucy but it was a running gag that she hated being summoned. Gag
People actually think Aquarius didn't like her? From the beginning, I always thought she was just a hardass tsundere
I think Aquarius had some resentment towards Lucy because Layla only died because she wanted to guarantee Lucy a better future.
I love Lucy and I agree with most of your points, I would like to add some of mine:
-Actually I would have prefered that Lucy had the 12 zodiac keys, leaving them at 10 feels so imcomplete, with the 12 they could have easily made a "Zodiac Dress" ultimate form
-I would have loved the Form change a bit early on the story, why? Because it's similar to Erza's power that could have been an interesting relationship for both of them. Mentor and Student, Erza teaching Lucy of how to Adapt in battle since that's something Lucy is kinda good but needs to be more effective
-I am sucker for the Zodiac so it's sad thar they never played with the element aspect of the Zodiac signs:Water, Earth, Fire and Wind
Same I would love to see an ultimate star dress or something else
@@TreeDwellingShrimpThe concept of Star Dress appeared during The Taurous arc when she sacrificed Aquarius

To be fair how often is Jellal around for her to ask that question

Duke Everlue is a man is he not?😴
There’s Zoldeo, but he was a lunatic who killed Brandish’s mom and possessed Capricorn’s body

What 😧
When was that. What is wrong with human beings
So you're a girl who doesn't like girls being tortured okay?? How is it traumatizing.

@@fattimmy2829Sakura was abandoned in the streets until he he remembers her for a minute and brought her back a bit will Lucy has the most scream time out of the two and has a stronger role than her as well as growing they are not the same. lucy heartfilia has improved a great deal in the manga. she’s able to hold her own against extremely strong enemies, and even dragon slayers. she’s been given constant power ups and that’s just only the beginning of her magic. i expect big things from her when the anime comes back. they better do my girl right this time.
In the manga her torture scene is worse, Gajeel is seen throwing knives at her, in the anime he just throws and kicks her around
So true I can't count the number of times natsu would of gotten hurt or died doing something stupid if lucy wasn't there
Finally someone is talking about Lucy in a positive light! 😭❤️

It makes me so upset that her chances to shine were often overshadowed or muddled with death, sacrifice or tragedy. She really experienced some of the worst treatment (imo) on the show and deserved so much better. loved the video
Well said and exactly how I feel
Lucy is probably the first female character that I looked up to as a kid watching Fairy Tail. I love her and what she stands up for. I also got very upset when she were done dirty like GMG ;-; and the fact that some people still dicredited her when she has done a lot for the guild & its members (tartaros, rewriting END) pissed me off. I also think that her power could be explore even more, celestial magic is limitless.
I absolutely love and adore Lucy she is the heart of Fairytail and just so relatable with her family story about finding your own family in her guild
I don't know why but she is litterally my favorite character in all of anime. There's something about her personality, flaws, and magic that draws me to her. Watching her grow to where she is in the manga and to keep growing will always bring a smile to my face.
Sameeee
I think what drew me to her was her being so relatable and funny
I will forever be her lawyer and defend her and praise her.
We love Lucy we Stan a queen

You're not the only one. I can understand the naval battle, but she deserved that win against Flare.
Lucy heartfilia will forever be my favourite anime girl of all time
She's such an amazing character. She's also funny and relatable like yes in the beginning she complained Alot but it's because she was new and frankly I found her complaints relatable asf😭
They have misjudged this girl and do not cut her any slack whatsoever and just hate on her stupidly. Lucy is well loved and at the same time hated. There were literally ig account made just to hate on her☠️(whoever made those I hope you rot).

While she does get sidelined too much, she still has prevailed as a favorite of mine, and I just wish she was given more time to shine, and less of those damn Golden Keys XD
Anyway, enjoying the FT content so far, and I hope to see more of it or any content you have coming up!!
This is exactly how I feel
The reason why I got so attached to Lucy was because of the fact she was so relatable
Lucy needs a hug. Like, she seriously needs a hug after all of the B.S. both the show AND Mashima has put her through.
Theres a lot of criticisms you gave that were definitely valid, but theres a few I disagree on:
- the Phantom Lord arc.
Rare sure but not impossible for normal people
The celestial mages hunted to extinction is definitely a retcon, since we are clearly meant to see them as a bit rare but not nearly extinct
U know i often find Lucy in most of hentai ad when i read manhua/manhwa in any website she is even highlighted at it i hate it so much
it feels like everytime its time for Lucy to have a moment to shine its always against someone who is shown to be the weakest of all the enemies, her best moment when she summons the spirit king is against 3 enemies already almost beaten so she just does the finish touches, but its a great scene and moment for her.
at least we finally have an idea of a super move for her passed urano metria in 1000 year quest with her stardress combine attack/mode that combines 2 of her celestial spirits abilities together.
This is why I read mostly Lucy centered fanfics. I love writing and I love Lucy, so I've written some of my own stuff on her lol
Same here. Though I try to make her strong without going overboard on the power.
A part of me believes that one of the reasons mashima made 100 year quest was to make up for all the crap he put lucy through in the og series.
Girl got Ws in this one.
In the spin off series, 100 year quest, they’ve set up Lucy finding Aquarius again as an upcoming arc
that's not spin-off - it's continuation/sequel
I kinda wish she didn't..
Maybe not.
I have always loved her. She was the one we walked with along the journey of fairy tail. But she always gets the short end of the stick
Yes she came in second in the Minerva fight and she showed guts cuz she never surrendered but what most of these wizards will remember is not a full out hard earned win because she’s powerful (like she would’ve gotten in the Flare fight) but a loss (flare) and a beating and them being like “she deserves second because she took the beating like a champ” instead of she earned second because she fought well because Minerva tortured her instead of just kicking her out
she unlocked the star dress skill when he broke Aquarius's key..
I love Lucy she’s also my favorite character
In fact, the only other Celestial Wizard I remember is Yukino (who has a 13th golden key which was never used again?)
And she NEVER learned more than 2 or 3 super S-Class Celestial spells that she never re-used. :(
EDIT: I'd say you forgot to mention the lack of closure for her saving Natsu from dying at the end of the series by re-writing his book. It kinda just happens and we all brush it off. Would have loved to see Natsu say that instead of his demonic seed there is something that Lucy put in its place. Hell, Gray even waits for her to be done writing to dispel away the demon energy she absorbed while rewriting the book.
FUCKING FINALLY, IVE BEEN SCREAMING THIS FOR SO LONG. SHE'S MY FAVORITE CHARACTER, AND MY BISEXUAL AWAKENING!!!
Lucy has always been my favorite character! I feel like you gave Lucy so much justice in this and I appreciate you so much! She never gets enough credit!
I'm so glad Lucy gets more stuff to do and more fights in fairy tail 100 year quest
I'm so happy so many people love lucy as much as i do also i subbed for the winx and rwby content but ft was a pleasant suprise
im only on the "who is lucy" part and I'm sobbing over how much I love lucy heartfillia and how much no one in the planet seemed to get why I did -- knowing other people love her too makes me so happy
(I start female character here) deserves better is pretty much the gist for any shonen anime
True
It was in the anime. It was mentioned something about lucy "lucky" heartfilia. But yeah, it still wasn't much
you dont know how glad I am to see a video like this, I remember discovering and staying for your winx club videos and I would never think of Fairytail being brought up in this channel!!
As a Lucy lover, I can’t thank you enough for this video!
Honestly. Just about every character in fairy tail deserved so much more and better. It works as a general good bare bones starter anime.
Totally correct
Love the effort you took in demanding justice for Lucy. Celestial magic should be so much better.
Not you re-awakening my desire to do a Fairy Tail rewrite with these past two videos 😭 Good stuff!
