Aimar was an absolute wizard. I never really saw anyone with quite his touch and creativity. Very happy to see him be part of Argentina's management this past World Cup.
No, the nickname (a few persons knows it, even in Argentina) it's because his father was known as "El payo" Aimar. So, his son was called soon "El payito" Aimar (diminutive of "payo", that could be understand like something similar to "blonde" meaning). But a TV futbol comentator at that time, confused the 2 words, that are similar, and called him "El payasito" and the public knew him with this name. But originally was "El payito" because of his father "El payo".
He always looked like he was having a knock about in a park, had a very casual easy style and made the game look ridiculously easy. There is a reason why top professionals loved watching Aimar. It wasn't just what he could do with the ball which in itself was staggering, but he specialised in crafting some of the most intricate and beautiful passing exchanges you'll see in football, it was as if he could see 5 passes ahead. More often than not, he'd start a move then few passes afterwards he'd be there to finish it off. He truly played the beautiful game.
Football misses players/magicians like Aimar. He didn't win much trophies but watching him on the pitch being El Mago is part of the beauty of football. Benfica fan's will always be thankful for the years he presented us with his magic on the pitch of Estádio da Luz. Good work with the video, congratulations.

It still haunts me today that I can't find it anywhere one of the coolest goals ever scored, it was in La Liga when Aimar scored for Valencia, way out on the right side, haters will say he was trying to cross it but it was obvious he was trying to chip the keeper but the beast part was the ball hit the bar, left post, ground, right post and in. 3:48 Yes, "El payasito" came from a commentator, but it was due to a mistake because his original nickname was "El payito", it's common to inherit their father's nickname for lots of players but with a diminutive, and his nickname was "El payo" To put it simple messi is called "Pulga" and following that tradition one of his sons would be called "Pulguita"
I was at a training session at Valencia. Aimar was driving off when he saw a boy in the mirror looking distraught. Aimar reversed and posed for a photo with the boy before leaving. Pure class.
Grazie per Video 👍. Always interesting and good narratives. Fantastic accent grande. I will call you The VOICE 😎. If you can do Rossi,Scirea,Bergomi, etc. For Aimar he was a very intelligent and good player probably deserved more recognition and trophy wise very unlucky, maybe at a bigger club a bigger trophy cabinet but can't take away the fact he's was a champion.
I watch him play in the youth world cup which was held in my country, and my state hos Argentina games. beside him I remember this one name which is his team mate, Diago Quintana

Aimar and Saviola at Benfica played their best football ❤ Their own words ❤ and facts ❤
This guy was so good that he won a La liga and Champions League with Valencia during a era where players like Zidane and Ronaldhino were at the peak of theirs powers. 2000-2002
Valencia never won Champions League went two finals but lose both
@@peterwest1830 crazy how Valencia used to be champions league finalists now they're a mid table almost bottom table team but I don't blame them they've had many issues recently
@@peterwest1830 my bad but he won LA liga so not so bad in my book
He started at thr River Plate club in Argentina.
Of de many great players that River brought out.
We malaysian had the chance to watch his magic when he plays for johor darul takzim a few years ago before he retired . What a joy to watch him back then
Thank you for the retrospective I really like the part about ral Zaragoza I really enjoyed them in 2007 in la Liga with Diego Melito and also Herrera was on that team you really was a great player
The Benfica team of 09/10 was star-studded.
One of great young players during youth world cup in Malaysia, Aimar was really good but unfortunate for him at higher levels in Europe
He totally dominated that tournament mate, and what a crack Argentina squad at the time!
I remember seeing him playing for Valencia at the Mestalla in 2002. He and Vicente were the best live performances I saw in the games I attended when I was in Europe...
I remember using Benfica alot on FIFA and this guy was AMAZING
I literally transferred this guy to every team i was playing in fifa 04 because I always wanted him in my squad
Pablo Aimar is one of the best midfielders in Argentina squad.
I always used to put him in my Argentina side in fifa 05, I wonder why Riquelme started getting more calls/starts in the national team
You know what I love that 2 of the best players to ever played the game admired 2 players that played for Benfica. Both number 10s Rui Costa and Pablo Aimar! I do love my club the mystic and the history I hope we can still bring players like Aimar and saviola and rui Costa now. I would say Otamend is in tha category too the man is amazing! These amazing players that have prove themselves in major leagues and come to us to try to make history by playing at their highest level even if the league is not the top league. Mad respect for them and a massive thank you to them! You are all legends to us! You will always be welcome back you will always have a place with us benfiquistas we don't leave our own behind
Excelente conteúdo no teu canal. Parabéns. Deixo só uma dica, se apagares/cortares a respiração da narração fica ainda melhor, às vezes parece que estás cansado e a correr e causa alguma ansiedade ao ouvinte. De resto, top, parabéns mais uma vez. Continua
your Portuguese accent ffs 😂 nice vid man, amazing player, glad to see him playing at my team and also in what he has done in Europe!
What about it?

@@enzo-yw9ph nah he doesn’t think like how we look at Brazilians he thinks he just stands out especially when he say players names
@@enzo-yw9ph Don't put "Portuguese" and "Brazilian" in the same line when it comes to English speaking or reading fluidity. I mean it's not even close. The general Brazilian population simply can't read or speak English. In this case, the author has what some might say an almost perfect English accent. There's only some instances where he sounds Portuguese, like when he spells certain words or spelling people's names or clubs, which is actually the correct way of spelling them.
@@DarkFoX750 what the fuck are you talking about lmaoo??? I'm saying that english speaking people (english as first language) find his accent funny like we portuguese find brazilian accent funny.
Aimar was amazing. Got wrecked by injury. Real shame
Good enough to be the idol of Leo Messi. I think this is more than enough to describe how good Aimar was in his peak form.
Im a benfica fan and pablo is my favourite player that played at the club after rui costa and eusebio
What an amazing player he was.
Como sempre, espetacular vídeo. Continua assim. Forte abraço
That Valencia team is how I remember them, as I watched them growing up. Even if i'm not a fan, Valencia is one of those clubs you just like, they will always have my respect.
An absolutely lovely video, like always. Thank you for doing this
“El payaso” the clown is said to be his nickname because every time he played you could see a smile in his face.
Please do socrates ( the doctor). Love your channel so much. You learn a thing about football everyday
Litmanen is still loved in Amsterdam, don't forget he is one of the type of players we love to see in the AFCA !
For the record he did play for a big club: BENFICA , 2 times champions league winners show some respect
This was my suggestion. Thank you so very much for making it. I forgot to thank.
Amazing, over looked for the national team and I will never get why!
I loved this guy on the old pro evo games.
He was class in the old pro Evs.
As a football fan and Benfica fan , he will be forever in our great football memories! Gracias " El Mago " !
Too bad this video doesn´t show his great performances in Benfica and Valencia. We went to 2 european finals with him in the squad as a playmaker. Such a great player ... TOP WORLD CLASS PLAYER ... He was soooo good that Rui Costa " O Maestro " said that he was the only player that could do the same on the field as him. That says a lot about " Pablito " Aimar.
I suggest that you should watch videos about both of them , you will be amazed ;))
Wasnt he one of the coaches of Argentina along side whit Scaloni and Walter Samuel
yes he is
omg, the team he had at benfica was my favourite in football manager. cardozo 9 , aimar 10, coentrao left back i think, di maria right wing. cardozo was the best striker back then. memories
I still remember aimar, D'Alessandro, Ayala and diego milito playing together
3:48 Yes, "El payasito" came from a commentator, but it was due to a mistake because his original nickname was "El payito", it's common to inherit their father's nickname for lots of players but with a diminutive, and his nickname was "El payo"
To put it simple messi is called "Pulga" and following that tradition one of his sons would be called "Pulguita"
He is the reason why i started to play football
Obrigado maestro
Can you do Javier Saviola? Looks like all modern Barca fans don't know him.
He went to play for Madrid, he betrayed Barcelona
You right .saviola is great player too
@@elvecinodeltio5960 So did Ronaldo (fenómenô) Luis Figo and many more
I was at a training session at Valencia.
I remember him from my PS1 days. Winning Eleven soccer
I really love this channel. Keep it up
14:22 I didn´t know that Otamendi look so simiar to Cambiasso
😂😂😂😂 since when otamendi played for leicester city?
Seedorf that low score. How strange
I watch him play in the youth world cup which was held in my country, and my state hos Argentina games. beside him I remember this one name which is his team mate, Diago Quintana
Messi had no time to have an idol, at the age of 19 he became an idol.
Young Ronaldo rubbing young Messi Lingards head👌🏽🤣🤣
He secretly cursed him to not reach the level as Ronaldo in Man u
