Thank you guys for tuning in this week yall! Just a heads up, I'll be heading to Socal Gaming Expo this week in CA...would love to meet any of you that will be around!
Not trying to hate or be mean, just giving my honest opinion. The first season of $10 Game Collection was cool because of the grind, selling on Ebay and hustling which is what we would all have to do. Selling on WhatNot at the ridiculous prices people pay for ur games that are clearly not worth that much takes away from the "U can build a collection from $10" theme. It's just my thoughts. Again, I love ur vids and love the nostalgia of flea markets and Goodwills. Have a blessed day.
i get that tony, appreciate the feedback! This season im deviating some bc the goal has shifted...im looking to build the biggest game collection possible to give it all away and this avenue works better for the overall goal of this seasons series. I really do appreciate the feedback though...and for you tuning in!
But guys his goal has shifted and building an N64 collection right now and give it away to his fan and or is difficult. So if you understand the core of where is coming from and understand the person he is , the game is changing and you have to adapt to the future so it’s what it is . He’s a smart business guy and true.
I am happy I am not the only one who finds WhatNot not that desirable. I understand that your goals have shifted and N64 games are just generally a lot more expensive overall. Maybe you can cap the price on WhatNot so people don't bid over. But IDK, ill still watch this series because its always interesting seeing what you find at all these stores. Hope you don't find the WhatNot criticism too harsh and know its coming from fans who love what you do on RUclips.
I agree, I think the original spirit was to show that anyone with a limited budget could become a collector without breaking the bank. I think whatnot is just a bad option in general, on ebay I could sell a game for the same price as Rick can. If I tried whatnot I wouldn't even get a viewer to my auction. I think when people realize you're paying for the person's name that it will loose interest for people.
Was hoping people would talk out about Whatnot! Your channel went from the thrill of the hunt to how much you can get your followers to pay. Whatnot is not for collectors and more for people to overpay their favorite RUclipsrs.
Season one was a great idea. Take $10 buy/ sell to build a collection and sell it at Retropalooza. It helped you stand out and was responsible for your channel growth. Whatnot ruins season 2. There is nothing wrong with profiting off of games. However, when items go for 2x the value or more on Whatnot it can give similar vibes to the Heritage Auctions situation with graded games last year.
Big fan! But must say I wasn’t thrilled that you would be bringing WhatNot funds into this “season”. The premise of the “$10 challenge” is us schlubs on this side of the screen could replicate your feats. It’s just my thoughts. I’m still tuning in every week!
exactly what I was thinking....he said before he wasn't gonna bring in his celebrity status as that would not be realistic, that's exactly what he did by selling on what not, might as well not even call it a challenge anymore!!
Agreed. It would be much more realistic and a better series if you didn't auction games. Will still watch though as I live in in central Arkansas myself and you are my favorite retro channel. Looking forward to more videos!
Whatnot auction was fun to watch and mock people paying 4x the price of games because they came from you, but I agree that using sales from that for this particular game challenge makes it come across as disingenuous. You should limit the stuff from here for sale on other platforms that don't have such high markups based on your youtube status.
Love the channel and the $10 dollar collection is my favorite show on RUclips to watch. But I have to say I feel WhatNot shouldn’t be apart of it. Fans pay a lot just to get a game from you. I mean they prob pay $30 bucks for a Wii Fit from you on WhatNot 😂. This wouldn’t pan out for the rest of us non RUclipsrs if we were to sell on WhatNot . Keep up the good work though and like I said this isn’t a bash or anything just my thoughts. Thanks 🙏
I dig your channel, and I love the concept of the $10 game collection, but (regardless of your goals with this season) most of us started watching because of the idea that "you can do this too". Selling the games on whatnot destroys that premise. No average collector will get the prices you're getting, and it makes the whole series go from "you can do it" to "only I can do it, and only because I'm a big youtuber." I know that's not the case, and please take this as only constructive criticism, but that is the idea being posited to the viewer with whatnot sales being included. It would be more realistic and relatable if you sold on an ebay account that was NOT publicly linked to you or this channel, getting prices that any of us would be able to get.
I completely agreed with you but then I remembered the goal of this season was to give everything away at the end. I think if that was hinted at a little more people would care less about the means to the end.
I’d love if you stuck to eBay/Facebook/Craigslist sales for the series. The livestreams are cool but it’s not as realistic for the rest of us who love to try to replicate your success. Still love the videos though!
i do get where you are coming from...im deviating some in this season because the name of the game is to not get these for myself but to collect the biggest collection possible to giveaway! Thanks for tuning in
Here’s a suggestion, if you use whatnot for the challenge because it’s easier or you just like it, if an item sells for more than you realistically think you would have gotten otherwise, put some of the excess into a separate charity fund and buy some games or systems for a children’s hospital or some similar charity at the end of the season. You could have a running total. That way you maintain the challenge, can use whatnot, and give people something to cheer on at the same time.
Curious to see how and if the new Tax laws effect many peoples methods of building collections or making extra $$. Any selling platform (ebay, marketplace, whatnot etc) you not only have to contend with their fees but you have to put back a certain percentage for the government (reselling now any time you hit over $600 in sales they send you a 1099 you have to then file with your taxes).
You probably should rename the series. Calling it season 2 of the $10 game challenge is going to divide many of your fans once you sell on whatnot. Just call it the "N64 Giveaway Challenge" and everyone will understand that your goal was to giveaway awesome N64 items to your community for just a 10 investment on your part.
Really need to get rid of the what not option. Definitely unrealistic prices for this option. What made the first season so awesome was it was something we could all go and try ourselves. We can’t sell our games for 4x what they’re worth.
Not really a challenge with using fame to stream and sell. More like just a normal series. Still okay to watch but not as enjoyable being labeled a challenge this series.

I get your concern, my thinking is a little different with this season since I’m building the collection for the community and not myself. Biggest collection possible is the name of the game this go around to get the collection to the people!
I agree. The strategy to resell made it interesting and made you want to find out if he was going to trade in at game store, eBay, etc. it was the puzzle aspect that made season 1 interesting to watch week to week.
@@retrorick to be honest I hadn’t considered it like that and that is a fair point. It still makes it less interesting but I can at least understand why!

I had a ton of PS demos back in the day. Since I started collecting again in the last 2 years, I’ve acquired about 25 Xbox/360 demos including Conker Reloaded, and about 35 PS/2 demos (the PS stack was $10 total)

@retrorick most memorable demo was the original metal gear solid level where you had get into the building in the snow and hide in the cardboard box where the enemies spoke Japanese.
best memory for demo disks.. playing metal gear solid for ps1, over and over again.. played it where I would time myself to see how fast I could finish the demo. Also Dave Mirra's BMX, and Sled Storm with Dragula as the sound track. Demo disks were where it was at!
been collecting for many years and have a fairly extensive retro collection, but i can't find much of anything in the wild anymore. been years since I had a garage sale find and my flea markets sell at retail pricing. goodwills have been a complete bust too. Wish my area was as fruitful as yours
I love the demo discs back in the day. It gave you a chance to play a little of a game to see if you liked it instead of making a bad purchase. My favorite demo disc came out of a PlayStation magazine I believe. I don’t remember all the games but the one I played the most was thrasher skate and destroy. One level, one character but that’s all I needed.
Sweet! I also have massive Nostalgia for Waverace 64. My memories of that game will always be tethered with the Verve's Urban Hymns album as I bought that around the same time and was usually playing in the background whilst I played the game . Video games are special wormholes back to the past, they unearth forgotten memories
I used to watch wee sing in sillyville all the time at my grandmas as a kid my favorite were the blue men group and the yellow group or maybe all of the them lol 🤭🤭🤭
My first demo memory is playing the pizza hut demo disk with Tony Hawk 1. Everybody taking turns to see who could get the highest score. Love watching your stuff Rick.
Just started with your original season and binged it in a week! Currently flipping a few things to start my collection and dropped only $10! Looking forward to the adventure!!
i got a Rob Zombie cdrom from spencers that had some songs and an early EARLY trailer for House of 1000 corpses with a TON of unused footage. It really shows how much of the film changed prior to release.
Used to go to Toys R Us pretty often and also hit up the video game kiosks. Man they were probably filthy with everyone touching them haha. But I do remember playing a lot of Medievil and Threads of Fate demos. Can’t remember what else was on it. And then the N64 always had Excitebike 64 inserted, so many days going back to to that store and playing that game. Good times!
I played the demo of Metal Gear Solid in Japanese for so long.. it made me want that game so much!!! Eventually it was the first game I bought with my own money! Such a good time with demo discs!
Galaxy Quest is EPIC and totally an under rated classic. So many great quotes and just an all around great movie. Fun Fact, it was voted the 7th best Star Trek movie at a 2013 Las Vegas Star Trek convention.
My Daughter has the fisher price game controller ..she's 5 and just passed it on to my almost 1 year old Son ...I'll have to try the buttons now to see if it works!
Dude US prices are so crazy. You can buy Starfox aka Lylat Wars here in Europe for 10€ or less, pretty common game. Those Watta pricks really screwed up the market over there.
The first windows pc we bought came with windows 95, and had duke nukem 3D demo installed on it! That was the first time i was hooked on a game next to NES & SNES games!
My friend got a demo in his psx magazine it was for intelligent qube. We played that demo for HOURS and the game never ended there was no play timer. We had a theory that it was the full game as a demo. Years later we found out that publishers actually did just that under the guise of a demo.
I was watching your previous video from this past Thursday, and I was in awe when I saw that Jolteon plush on the screen! I got so excited when I saw it in the video that I wanted it so badly!! And besides, Jolteon is my favorite Eeveelution in the whole wide world.
When I was younger my parents would be the ones to buy us games without us going they would pick what they thought would be fun and one day they went to Circuit City to buy some movies and when they came back they brought me a Jampack ps1 game thinking it was a bunch of games in 1 and not a demo disc. In the end I played the hell out of it and I still have it to this day.
My best memory of getting a demo is I was looking forward to the Amplitude PS2 demo in official Playstation magazine. I bought it day one of release of the magazine and the demo ended up being a misprint of a movie. I still have the demo/movie. I believe it’s the rarest demo for OPM. I’ve never heard of anyone else owning one.
My favorite demo discs were the PS1 Jampack Summer '99 and Summer 2k... '99 had Bloody Roar 2, The Next Tetris, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, R4 Ridge Racer Type 4, etc. 2k had The Legend of Dragoon, MediEvil II, Grind Session, Speed Punks, Tomba 2, Spider-Man, Tony Hawk 2, etc.... So good man. Very fond memories of those two demo discs. I remember one of the Pizza Hut PS1 demo discs having Metal Gear Solid on it...such a great time to be a gamer.
Oh yeah I remember demos what a time to grow up I use to be subscribed to playstation underground back in the day always loved the demos gave us a chance to check out games we wouldn't know about any other way.
Hey retro Rick I have a question I went to the retro store and found both starwars games on the nes and there see thru Blue cartridges there worth about 50 a peace I was wondering if you would get those games???
Demos were awesome loved them on the Amiga used to get full programs sometimes I remember getting a demo of unsensible soccer was Apple's v pears and the ball was a bomb
omg was at a What Not auction for some N64 games today and had to pass on a Wave Race for the same price only because couldn't get quite the right deal with a few others small world
I love Final Fantasy! My love for FF came because of the FF8 demo I played from PlayStation Magazine! The cool thing about the demo is that originally Seifer was a playable character, but not in the officially released game. I still have that demo disc!
I had a Pizza Hut Demo Disc with Crash Team Racing, Tony Hawk PRO SKATER, Ape Escape, Final fantasy VIII, CoolBoarders. Ultimately led me to saving up my hard earned lawn mowing money to pick up FF8.
wanted to thank you i used one of your methods today and got a solid find (to me at least) saw a copy of guitar hero 2 for ps2 so i opened it up and there was a ace combat 5 in there (a game a havent played since i was a kid) would have never found it if i didnt open it, also found a test drive 4 for playstation cib for 1$ so 3$ for both ill take it

And besides, Jolteon is my favorite Eeveelution in the whole wide world.
i love jolteon!
The N64 collection is not complete until...
Aero Gauge!
Nice! Didn't realize I won the very first N64 game you got for the collection. Decided to go back to see where you picked it up from 😄
a PS2 demo disc and i think the demo was for viewtiful joe 2. when it was played it erased all of the save data on the memory card.
The whole "every content creator in this space funnel the people to whatnot" is a bit over the top...
Crazy you didn’t jump in Beast Wars!? That thing is HARD to come by in the wild. I’d doubt you ever find one again tbh
Yo Retro! Oh my lord I need that mighty morphing power ranger set how much was it?
I love demos. It's why I bought nintendo power or Playstation magazines
haha thats amazing! i miss video game magazines!
I remember one of the Pizza Hut PS1 demo discs having Metal Gear Solid on it...such a great time to be a gamer.
that is going to be one happy kid after he watches the first gen Power rangers . that what i use to watch when i was young now i am 40 Years old
he loves it so much! Thanks for watching Waylon!
@@retrorick I watch it For your Son!! Just kidding thanks for making family/kid friendly content
It was fun seeing you game hunt on all these old school games. Feels very nostalgic. Keep being Nerdmazing!
That 90’s teal color tie dye Genesis shirt alone made this an AAA episode
Oh yeah I remember demos what a time to grow up I use to be subscribed to playstation underground back in the day always loved the demos gave us a chance to check out games we wouldn't know about any other way.
heck yes!!! I love Demos so much!
just a curious question: why do you keep checking the side of a game or a movie when you are looking at the front cover of it?
Where did you get the giant mario beside your TV!
My only demo disc games I can remember are jet set radio future. And the hulk movie that had the demo on Xbox played that a ton with my cousin
That "yes"from your son said it all 😂
You should do a package unboxing video
i plan to soon!
That Scarface game is one of the best titles released on PS2. Period.
You showed my favorite genesis game at the game exchange. Traysia was the first rpg fantasy type game I played.
Hey retro Rick I have a question I went to the retro store and found both starwars games on the nes and there see thru Blue cartridges there worth about 50 a peace I was wondering if you would get those games???
You might have missed on the Deer Hunter game where you picked the Jampack demo... some of them do well some others don't I can't see which one it was
Demos were awesome loved them on the Amiga used to get full programs sometimes I remember getting a demo of unsensible soccer was Apple's v pears and the ball was a bomb
omg was at a What Not auction for some N64 games today and had to pass on a Wave Race for the same price only because couldn't get quite the right deal with a few others small world
Great vid man. Keep up the great work. Your videos are always amazing me and my dad are huge fans.
The Pizza Hut demo with Spyro 2. I played the badlands and baby turtles levels so much on that thing!
The demo I remember is Tekken 3 demo disc on PS1. I think you could only play as two characters.
I love Final Fantasy! My love for FF came because of the FF8 demo I played from PlayStation Magazine! The cool thing about the demo is that originally Seifer was a playable character, but not in the officially released game. I still have that demo disc!
The audio clip that went with the Beast Wars cartridge was from G1, not Beast Wars.
Wave race and bomber man 64 are my favorite 64 games
I had a Pizza Hut Demo Disc with Crash Team Racing, Tony Hawk PRO SKATER, Ape Escape, Final fantasy VIII, CoolBoarders. Ultimately led me to saving up my hard earned lawn mowing money to pick up FF8.
Toby hawk demo on ps1, spent so many hours playing that until I got the real game! All that fun from just buying a magazine!
You are the retro goat and always happy to watch your vids!
And so it begins. Looking forward to the day when you snag those N64 heavy hitters.
you should've picked up that game of thrones complete series man! sells for 40-70 on ebay!
oh dang..i had no idea! Thanks for the heads up!
7:48 Low key he was mocking you 😂 JK
I love the video game collection it’s great that you still can get a deal without having to break the bank
Where did you get that Sega Genesis T-Shirt???

heck yeah...growing that game collection on the cheap!
Your child is hilarious. 😂 I would babysit him anyday. He's adorable.
