Facing cancer, this former Navy Seal tells his remarkable and emotional life story full of courage, love and faith, showing us all how to live up to our best selves.
Mike starts his story with vivid details about an abusive childhood lived in poverty and how he escaped by joining the Navy. During his time with the Underwater Demolition Team (precursor to Navy Seals), he talks about the intense training, the close bonds he formed and the dangerous work, including taking pictures of the missiles in Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis and later aboard the USS Thuban. After the military, Mike outlines his career in engineering and property management, forever the teacher and mentor to others (hence the nickname “The Godfather”). From there, he recounts his lifelong love and devotion to family, friends, community and faith. Toward the end of his interview and close to tears, Mike says, “I’ll be missed, but I can leave knowing I counted for something.” The movie closes with family members sharing heartfelt sentiments about Mike, their beloved husband, father and grandfather. movingStories also created a separate movie containing final messages from Mike for individual family members, including what he loves and admires about each of them, including his beloved grandchildren. A family friend gave Mike the gift of this Living Video Portrait which allowed him to tell and preserve his story, sharing his deepest feelings, earned wisdom and great goodness. Mike died less than a year after sharing his life story, leaving behind this priceless legacy for his family and future generations.
