Stephanie!!!! So happy to share this space with you with this collab. Loved your thorough review of this curriculum and visuals. I also love your honesty on the writing levels and the intensity of this curriculum. I look forward to following your journey here 🧡🧡🧡🧡
Stephanie, this was a very informative video. You explained and broke it down so well. I love the part at the end of the book when it asks to discuss and asks the child’s opinion of the book. It provides such a great conversation and opens up for questions. It has been so fun to see how she thinks when she reads and her opinions and feelings on things. Thanks for collaborating with me again!
We are using Lightning Literature too. However, I don't use the Writing Component Section. I use JacKris Publishing, Winning With Writing. It breaks down the lessons into small parts. I also agree with you that we would spend too much time on the Composition Part. My son dislikes writing, and he disliked the Lightning Literature Composition . Thank You for sharing this video!
Hi! I know this video has been up for some time, but I just came across it. Do you feel that the child is getting a comprehensive writing program included in this program? We are a secular family and have struggled to find LA (and science) curriculum. It is only our second year homeschooling- a positive that came out of Covid! My two youngest (current 2nd and 4th graders) will continue to stay home - my 8th grader wants to return to school for high school. We used All About Reading and then went to TGTB LA- I am not a real fan of it, I do think the inclusion of beautiful art is amazing but I feel it jumps around too much for my liking. I watched a review from Project Happy Home and I believe she may have added a writing program, but I could be wrong. We use Bookshark for History and love it- we read aloud about 35 books over the course of the year. Is this program still working as you hoped it would? Thank you for your time in making this review, it really helps new homeschool moms out that live in areas where homeschool is considered the "weird" thing to do!
Hi! I actually think the writing could be sufficient and effective for many children but its setup did not work for my daughter. I used LWT and that helped a lot. But we are on a break from writing in general. We will re introduce it for the 2022 school year - which we start in July. I’m considering BJU Press.
Great review. I was wondering what other language arts programs you have tried. My daughter doesn’t really know the parts of speech or how to write a paragraph. I was thinking Writing and Rhetoric?? Now not sure what to do?? Help!
We use lightning Lit (grade 4) and Writing and Rhetoric (Books 1 & 2) I'm not sure either would fit what you're looking for. Writing and Rhetoric jumps right into summarization and "amplification" when writing. They assume you have the basic parts of speech and mechanics of writing a paragraph. Have you looked at First Language Lessons for the Well Trained Mind? You can preview the book on google books so you can see if it's what you're looking for.
Thanks for such an in depth review!😊

I really do love all the opportunities for discussion!

My 4th grader is doing Fix it Grammar and he is learning the parts of speech beautifully! Highly recommend!
I’ve used Masterbooks which I also liked but I wouldn’t consider it a writing curriculum. I think the suggestions below are great!
Do you still use this? ❤
