The sasumata (mancatcher/ catchpole) got me here. I just want something ethical to stir away trouble. Good offensive, I think I would use it from behind to break up a fight (without hitting them ofc)
You have the right ideas in the video, but bad implementation and bad technique. You do NOT want to swing the belt from such a high, upright position with the belt swinging vertically. Doing so creates less momentum and you become a high target. Plus, the vertically swinging belt can be easily grabbed by the opponent. Instead, you want to crouch down into a position with your feet wider than your shoulders and swing the belt above you, like a helicopter blade, alternating from horizontal to diagonal patterns. Doing so would more likely target the opponents eyes. Once you hit his eye(s), the fight is OVER!! And NEVER, EVER use the belt for single whipping style hits, like in this video. The opponent WILL learn your pattern and disarm you from your belt! And NEVER, NEVER, NEVER get in too close with your belt, with the idea of hitting the guy across the head, as if the buckle will knock him out. A buckle will NEVER knock him out. Instead, you want to SLICE your opponent with the buckle causing cuts on face; hopefully eyes, nose, forehead and temples. Belts have been my FIRST line of defense since I was a teenager....ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS wear a belt with a sufficiently large buckle, preferably with sharp edges. Wear a belt that's at least SIX inches longer than your normal size, so you can have longer reach. An excessively large belt is NOT good. You will not be able to control it. Remove said belt, wrap it once and a half around your hand and wave FAST above your head in circular patterns. The KEY IS SPEED. It will scare and overwhelm the attacker. As you continue the helicopter motion(s), varying angles, crouch down and perform boxing style hip dips, to avoid the buckle coming back at you and to keep the attacker's eyes on you and NOT on the swinging buckle! That's an old NYC subway survival technique that works like a charm! Edit: make sure your pants fit properly and won't fall down when you pull the belt off 😉
The problem is that the Weight he is using against a street bully fighter it is not effective to stop him at all. You need to use a rock or a heavy locker inside the scarf.. and you better not miss under the street tension is easy to miss the target.. and if you let the oponnent with a knive get to close to you.. you have no defense.. so i would say get a bandana and a heavy locker, a rope with a heavy Weight but not very big because you lose Control of the weapon.
recommended as a father :)

How would you use it to break up a fight?

Yeah the belt is good for 1 strike then you need some follow ups like a low kick, punch - punch, then grab and grapple or takedown
