Epic game! I can see why you always talked about the Portugal game in later streams after this. I don't care what anyone says, huge maps look awesome and the larger scale of the game just feeds the sense of completion and accomplishment.
Esc only works if you do it immediately and race through the screens :). You wanted to see the other stuff the AI say, but steam didnt give that opportunity.
@@spookylight3249 Yeah I mean, it usually works for me regardless as long as I dont tarry too long in each screen. Might be a thing like the civ3 intro. It pretty much always worked for me. Though now on Windows 10, it does crash if I click to skip after it has already begun, but seems to play through if I let it.
If you are looking for another challenge type video, maybe a no settlers challenge. Probably on something like monarch or emperor. Rules: you can't build settlers, you can get more cities through culture flips and conquest of them. I have done it on monarch, so it is definitely doable if you want to try it.
I've considered it. Usually if there's a simple answer to how I'd adjust without deviating from my normal playstyle (In this case, just conquer) it's not too interesting I feel.
So back when the ladder existed, we had free for all matches. When the ladder died, they weren't fun anymore. Because in a 7 player game, people had no motivation to say, fight super hard to get from 6th place to 5th place. Playing for ranks gave that motivation, but without the ladder, losing player just got bored. We'd like to bring these games back in the new ladder, but we don't have a way to calculate the math in the new ELO spreadsheet.
I'm a civ 4 fanboy and its still my favourite one in the series. I did play civ 4 online but I will admit that civ 3 MP is better. I played a LOT of civ 3 MP back in the day, I remember a game ruleset called CTON.
Turn based as opposed to sim move? Not in our community, takes too long. There's a community of people who do play by email games though, i'll link their discord. discord.gg/Bp3VPav We also play a mod called MPT which has very few modifications relative to vanilla civ 3.

I found a way to get passed that bug that freezes the game when you win. You just gotta immediately go the replay map screen. Don’t spend too much time on the world leaders one

CTON was great! Unfortunately our current ELO system doesn't have a way of scoring free for all games but we're working on it!
