I use a rock climbing harness, the scout solo by out on a limb for a platform with a 5 step aider connected to the platform. I use my platform to go up the tree and I do not use sticks. I have enough rock climbing equipment for rope etc... My choice for saddle hunting is to use my ATC guide and some prusiks. I can use my ATC guide for ascending and descending on a SRT (single rope). This is the lightest system I have come up with and very easy to use. For the price of the saddles you can purchase a very comfortable rock climbing or arborist harness. My set up is very silent. If the scout solo platform is not large enough for you, you can add on some ring of steps. But I have found that it works just fine for me. I am mainly bear hunting with it and typically am only doing around 4 hour sits. I hope the above all makes sense.
Why Not Just Try yes it makes sense to me, I am a firefighter and a certified rope rescue technician. I also used a rock harness for a season and it works great! I just switched to the saddle after several all day sits i found I could maintain more comfort with the saddles extra material and shifting the contact points around periodically through the day! Thanks for the info, I will probably try SRT some this upcoming season. Thanks for watching and good luck out there!
Ordered my saddle from outdoor adventure outfitters with adjustable amstel bridge, oplux tether, 3 daisy chains and a back band for $300. Built my own linesman belt. There are other affordable options. Saddle is going to arrive this week. Great video.
Very informative, thanks! What is the chest harness? How is it used? I assume a guy could fall out of the saddle if he fell head-first? Does the chest harness prevent that?
jimisnotunique I’ve attempted to fall from mine at ground height to test safety and with the waist belt tightened I found that even turning upside down and trying to wiggle free without just unbuckling it I couldn’t fall even when I wanted to! Made me a believer in the safety! I’m wearing a GoPro second angle mount on my chest in the video, no additional safety harness, thanks for watching!
G Ant I agree completely! I hunt out of a Phantom and use a predator platform, this was just directed toward cheaper setups! Also have the new menace on the way, I love the tethrd stuff. Thanks for the feedback, and best of luck this season!
Im am all for Budget items. But I also want to be silent at my set up. I noticed the platform and your Rubber cause a lot of squeeking. I would put tape or fabric on the Face of the platform to prevent from spookkng deer.
nemarec I wrapped paracord cobra weaved over entire platform and stealth stripped the post prior to field use. Totally silent now, just hadn’t finished fine tuning at the time of the video! Thanks for watching
@@everydaysportsmen Thats great. I've been debating trying the saddle. I currenly have a summit open shot climber, but its a hasse carring my bag and climber on long 2mile hikes. I, looked for the x2 saddle that is pretty cheap and comfx I might try a small platform PR Ring of steps.
Thanks for the clear guide - the green hunter.
Like the video👍. Good luck this season!

@@everydaysportsmen thanks for the reply, and good video!
Looking forward to more videos. I'm thinking about getting the Recon. I plan on doing the DRT method for climbing. Check out NYsaddlehunter.
I feel DRT is the best option. NYsaddlehunter has great videos!
If it works for you it works but I would personally rather go with a company like tethrd good video anyways informative

What kind of rope do you use for the extra step?
Trae Holden 8mm climbing rope with a standard overhand knot, I believe I ordered this from REI
That don't sound to budget friendly to me..just saying lol
