    honestly you raise some really good points here and i'm... really tired of it having gone from "it's satisfying to watch someone's evil plan blow up in their face" to "this guy disagreed with our protagonist, MAIM HIM!" like yeah it was fun watching tom and jerry or roadrunner because like... they were actually being antagonistic. tom was actually attempting to harm jerry wile e coyote was attempting to harm roadrunner so the harm they get in return feels more like karmic retribution it feels like a triumph for those who are being attacked. but it's kinda starting to feel like the punishment is overkill when the "crime" is like... not worshipping the ground the protagonist walks on.
    you briefly mentioned ace attorney and while you didn't go into it much i am curious to hear about your thoughts there if it's alright to ask? it is one of my favorite game series and while i haven't played through the latest games there are a bunch of characters that, while perhaps not so cartoonishly as the other examples in this video, kind of strike me as "oh you've turned them into a joke." larry especially strikes me this way?? it feels like he's gone from "childhood friend of both phoenix and edgeworth who can be a bit much at times but means well" to "some guy that they knew but both secretly or not so secretly hate who Ruins Everything." and perhaps more in the spirit of this video i feel like they tend to be very very harsh towards gumshoe and downright mean to him?? it's very disheartening especially when he is genuinely trying his best to help you. i am curious to see who you had in mind!!
    if i may offer some advice, i won't bring up the mixing thing as everyone else already seems to have done so, but i will say that perhaps in the future when picking out backing tracks it might be best to avoid anything with lyrics? the lyrics really distract from what you're saying as i'm hearing two entirely different conversations essentially. i know a lot of people tend to use video game soundtracks but really anything instrumental is a good pick as long as it's mixed well and isn't like.. completely tonally dissonant i think

      first off, thanks for the engagement! secondly, when i brought up ace attorney i initially had apollo justice in mind. it felt like he got kinda shunted off to the side in AA 5, especially since he only got one real game to himself. although now that i think about it more, it has been a while since ive played, and im wondering if it only sidetracked him or if it actually dipped into bullying teritory. worth a replay i guess.
      you bring up a good point about gumshoe, i never really thought of it much but goodness, he really does get the shit end of the stick a lot. i think edgeworth layed off after AA 1, but franziska was just a bitch to him. and yeah she was a bitch to everyone, we stan the whip queen, but i think he got the brunt of it.
      regarding larry, i always saw him as "that one friend you have who always has some shit going on, but is generally nice to be around." hes not around all that much, but when he is hes either useful or trying to be funny. the comedy there comes in the form of him just being places, prompting a "what the hell are you doing here lol?" and also the fact that he seems to thirst after a new woman every week. maybe its just been a while, but i dont really think that phoenix or edgeworth hate him. maybe they get tired of him, but i can understand that. i mean his gross negligence was at least partially responsible for a crime one time. last game i ever saw him in was trials and tribulations, and i was happy he got a good ending by becoming an artist.
      you know this has made me realize that i havent played AA in a bit. i should change that.

      @starboundsingularity Месяц назад

      @@karb__ ohh yeah i could see that!! it is really disappointing that they sidelines apollo in the apollo justice trilogy but i haven't been able to see just how bad it gets as i haven't played past aa4 yet- partially because everyone's thoughts on the last two games kind of have me scared.
      admittedly i might be overreacting to the whole thing with larry but i just sort of get the feeling that as the games go on people seem less. happy? to see him? or less ok with seeing him? and sometimes it does feel a bit mean spirited, though i'll admit i also haven't played aa in a bit and have a tendency to exaggerate things in my mind once it's been a while. i am really glad that things turned out well for him at the end of trials and tribulations though and in my head he's firmly cemented as a friend :-)
      and yeah i don't have much to add about gumshoe he was trying his best and it feels like even after edgeworth eased up he still never really caught a break. and then they don't even bring him back. which i get but i miss him.
      i can't wait to see what you end up making in the future!! audio issues aside this was a very good video imo and i can't wait to see where you go with it :-)

    At best, this tropes suggest that being bitter as a result of putting up with everyone's bullcrap day-in and day-out makes you a bad person. Have these animators/writers ever worked a day of their lives in the service sector? It's awful! In the case of Squidward (and I guess the Josh guy but idk I never watched Clarence) they turned the most relatable character of the entire show into the universe's punching bag. I have difficulty believing the artist behind these productions are really that sadistic, but if they worked in the service sector or were bullied growing up, maybe they're masochistic?
    Also you probably don't need another person to mention it but you did ask what you could improve on. The audio mixing in some parts is terrible. 💀

That being said, absolutely agree with the video title.. I also am not a fan of people romanticizing abuse either. You either got the people who think it is the funniest joke ever or they think it's hot. Homestuck / Hiveswap fans seem to be filled with people who think abuse is adorable (including the developers, unfortunately.)

    to be fair to rick and morty, i think that its very aware of the fact jerry is abused by his family. it's more a subversion of the trope, part of his character arc is overcoming the abuse in later seasons.
    while rick is the protagonist of the show, i think that the writers intend him to be interpreted as an abusive person and asshole to everyone else, and that despite his intelligence his ego is so massive it's unwarranted (protagonists can intentionally be bad people too). people that already exhibit his kind of behavior in real life like to cheer him on though (my mom did this), but i think the point is you dont want to be like him.

    • @karb__
      @karb__  2 месяца назад +1

      I was gonna include jerry here but i realized that he probably deserves a video all on his own because of his arc.
      I still think the writers like to punch down on him for "the funny" but they break away from the trope by actually doing something with it.
