I have to disagree on the A tier. While Justin definitely had chops, he wasn't playing very clean or in time. He sounded okay until close to the end, when started rushing a lot on those fills. Bruno Mars was better imo because he was playing way more clean and in the pocket. He had some fire chops too, I was actually blown away.
i'm with you, Justin isn't that good at all and Quest was a hell of a lot better and should have gone crazy and made him look worse.
I agree Justin was not clean his time was extremely inconsistent, and he accidentally hit cymbals on his fills. It was an overall 5-6/10.
On the other hand, I prefer Justin's technicality over Bruno's clean playing, but that could be because of my bias towards Metal drumming, and Justin's is a lot closer in that regard.
@ErazoYTOfficial I understand it’s your opinion but Justin was speeding up his fills and timing is numero uno for drummers. Also he was quite sloppy in his playing. Maybe if he was keeping his hi hat going like quest love he would be more in time. And he used the same old basic file Bonham triplets. So again I say 5-6/10. I do respect your opinion though.
Agreed. Justin’s solo was pretty good, but sloppy in some parts. Bruno’s playing though, was awesome

With the Rowan Atkinson one, I definitely give him credit for accuracy. He was right on with the solo and even looked like he was air drumming the right rhythms for the most part, especially right in the beginning when he went to the bell pattern.

Bruno had some serious chops while Bieber was just sloppy and his time was all over the place.
@Rex R well we're not looking at actual drummers here. So for an amateur he is quite good. At least you can tell from how he played that he could also deliver stuff that is a bit more impressive. Whereas Bieber just has that one fill. (which is easy but works for crowds)
@Valhelm Exactly Beiber isn’t good outside of that one fill. Bruno Mars was actually playing different stuff and could groove in the pocket. The only people who were fascinated by beibers drum solo were non drummers.
@Rex R Nah as a drummer of over a decade i disagree with you 100%. Go to :56 for Bruno Mars' solo and listen carefully. Clean linear fill (swapping the sticking pattern too!) followed by a quick polyrhythm beat all in great timing. That is pretty damn impressive for a guy that tours year round singing and dancing lol
Bruno Mars also has an actual background playing bass, guitar, and drums.

@@MrValour Justin Bieber has been playing drums for over 20 years. That warrants real scrutiny, especially since he plays a drum solo at his own shows.
As a 20 year drummer, he's terrible. Go back and watch his drum playing as a kid, he hasn't progressed at all DESPITE playing consistently for 20 years. It's a slight at anyone who puts time and effort into their instrument.
Despite drumming on air drums with a recording, Rowan Atkinson looks like he actually took the time to understand basic drumming and practiced. Also, his timing is spot on considering it’s a pre-recorded track.
Despite playing with a recording, he’s actually pretty darn close to it. He could actually reasonably take his routine into a real drum set and somewhat replicate it. I’d like to see Will Ferrell, Nick Cannon, or any of the others do that.

Bruno and Fred realistically should have been S tier since they are real drummers and he used a nonsense video for Fred.

Bruno Mars is obviously above Biebs here. I wouldn't have put them in the same tier. Mars looked very close to being a professional drummer. He sounded like one, but visually his movements could have been more fluid and energy-efficient. Biebs on the other hand had a fair bit of obvious slop and isn't anything like being "locked in." Bonham-style triplets were a standout, but sound harder to play than they actually are. Think of playing singles, but each limb only needs to play at 2/3rds speed because you're adding a foot. Bass drum notes make linear fills sound faster in general while actually giving your hands a rest.
I haven't played drums since jr high but I could still play those triplets after a few minutes of figuring it out. I seriously don't know what this guy is thinking.
I'm surprised that this guy is a drummer but didn't notice Mars doing the linear fill or polyrhythm beat. Kinda weird but I guess he mostly is a marching guy?

Fred Armisen is AMAZING, he also has a film on Netflix called 'Fred Armisens Stand-Up for Drummers' where he does impressions, little acting scenes with other drummers and plays different kits. Amazing

Fred Armisen is my favorite punk drummer. He’s legitimately really good when he plays seriously.
Also Tenacious D is the best band.
He should have looked at clips from Fred Armisen: Standup For Drummers, since he's not playing intentionally badly there.
Other than drumming in Trenchmouth I guess Fred Armisen also was a drummer for the Blue Man Group for a while.
Blue man group requires guys to be close to 6 feet tall.
He’s a better drummer than he is a comedian. I saw his standup on Netflix and the jokes just weren’t there. I didn’t really like em at all. It was like he was telling the setup of the joke without the punchline. But still, his drumming wasn’t bad at all. I like the fact that he basically had all these kits out in front of the stage, highlighting the history of the drum set in music. That’s the only part I liked about it.
Wait that was actually John C. Reilly playing those drum parts. They definitely recorded in in a studio because it is a movie but he learned to play drums for the movie Georgia.

Fred Armisen is a VERY good drummer. Plenty of great footage of him. He played for blue man group. They keep you in serious playing shape. Also in the band Trenchmouth. Anyway, he’s very good.
I legitimately have no idea how Rowan Atkinson had time to get so great at air drumming. I've seen people spend years practicing that aren't as good as he is. Props to him. 👏

Even so that was quite good. He looked a bit stiff but I wouldn't be surprised if he's actually a fairly competent drummer by amateur standards, most professional musicians learn multiple instruments just to be well-rounded and he could obviously afford some lessons (with the connections to get an excellent teacher). Same with Bruno Mars, just because these guys aren't known for their drumming doesn't mean there hasn't been effort put into developing it in the background.
@@TheSquareOnes agreed. And I’m sure all of us have sat down at the kit after a hiatus and been less creative than we’d like to be. I know I have. He’s not bad. It’s still weird they did this semi-serously though.

Rowan Atkinson's air drumming is one of my favorite videos of him ever because for someone who doesn't really play drums he did a great job! But there's a good explaination for that: He's a perfectionist. I learned that from watching the making of from his movie Bean's Holiday.

Fred Armisen was the drummer in the Chicago band Trenchmouth; they put out at least one CD in the early 1990’s (I have it) and saw them open for Jawbox in Hartford, Connecticut.
Ben Stiller was a drummer in the 1980’s HC punk rock band Capital Punishment, recently released an EP, not sure if it’s recent or older material.
You gotta be kidding with the biebs, he was a bit better than I expected but Bruno was legit 10x better. On the groove, clean playing, tasty fills (the linear at 0:57 alone dumps on everything Bieber did).
I wouldn't bat an eye if Bruno played a full set on drums, he'd look totally in place. Bieber is a standard 1 year drummer who just learned linear triplet fills.
John C. Reilly learned to play the drums for his performance in the movie Georgia, which involved music being recorded live for certain scenes, so he did all his own drumming in Step Brothers

The Mr Bean one was great. That's how i learn songs. With differnt techniques then my playing. I sit behind my kit and listen over and over and air drum it for the muscle memory then when i get the air drum pattern correct I apply it to the kit and add more power behind the hits for them to register on the drums. I live in an apartment and use an electrical drum kit to learn and practice. Electric drums take little pressure to activate the sound so air to electric and continue to add pressure until it's me just jamming with track. Takes hours to perfect. But that's my technique.

@@solomonanderson4657 Yup, Bruno’s been doing music since he was 2 and he has a much better feel for music and rythem. The drum solo he did in the super bowl was cut in half. He does that same solo but longer in his moonshine jungle tour and it’s a lot more impressive.

Hey Eric on the "Drumline" stuff I think it was the snare coach at Atlanta Drum Academy who played the snare stuff. I don't know if it was Mr. Riles or not, but if it isn't he knows who it is. The dude actually played on the Morris Brown Drumline in the real world. Fun fact Mr. Riles sons can play all the first Drumline stuff.

Apparently nick cannon did learn how to play snare and did play some of the drumming in the movie but the close ups were a stunt double
I am sure that you know John C. Reilly does play drums, and in that movie, (Step-Brothers) that you showed, he played all his own drum parts. They may have been dubbed in for the sound quality, but it was him on the set.
