In this video we are looking at how to use the Elgato HD60s plus capture card to connect your DSLR camera to your Mac or PC so you can use it as a webcam. This method can be an alternative to using the Elgato Cam Link 4K product if you need a device to connect your camera to your computer for live streaming or gaming online when you need a face camera for your broadcast.
If you are doing live broadcasts you might want a better quality broadcast than the standard webcam look.
We will look at how to connect the camera to an iMac (in this video we use the Canon 80D camera), and how to set up the video feed using OBS (Open Broadcaster Software).

Brilliant stuff Asten. Was frustrated that Canon did not release tethering software for models like the 80D and even 70D. I have the 70D and this works too which I am seriously happy about. Your method of switching off the manual focus works a treat and hardly anyone suggests this. How often is autofocus really going to be needed for streaming? I'm looking forward to this now. Best wishes to you during this crazy time. I have now subscribed to your channel.
Thanks for the feedback Andy and welcome to the channel. Yeah if you are doing talking head videos you don’t really need the autofocus. I’ve never needed it for live streaming. Glad you enjoyed the video mate. More video making tips and tools every week!

Hi there! Thanks for the complete information! Can you please explain if there is any latency with hd60s+ instead using the camlink for the live streaming on twitch? My gf has it and we are looking for the slr camera. However, we are not sure about the hd60s+ in case of latency or any other issue. Do you strongly recommend camlink for live streaming or is hd60s+ enough for it?

1. Can a longer HDMI cable (30m) be used between the capture card and the camera's L-shape cable or do I have to get a converter for longer cable?
2. Is there any workaround to have the camera' screen to show when the HDMI is inserted?
Good video , Canon now have software to turn your camera, into a webcam.

Hi, I am still trying to use my Canon m50 ii as a webcam. I got the HD60s+ as canon EOS utility doesnt support Windows 11 yet. I understand the HDMI input and USB3 , connection part to the Elgato, but wont I need to be connecting the Output HDMI to the graphics card on my Pc instead of back of the monitor? I only have 1 pc and 1 screen. Mainly want to use it to record videos on my pc and zoom calls.
I wanna use it outdoor without connecting imac. can you tell me something which hdmı buy

Hello, I have a 90D and I tried to use it for Stream, but it has 2 details, 1 that at the time of connecting it turned off, still removing the option to Disconnect automatically, so... I read in the Manual that it is something that even if it is deactivated, after 30 min they turn off ... then I opted to use the 90 in REC mode for Streaming, but in the same way at 30 min... it went out... I searched many places and found no solution... then..
Do you know how I can use the 90D? for stream without it going off? I would appreciate you very much, Recently I see you on RUclips. PS: I used a Capturer and together with OBS I connected the 90D but it didn't work.
Will this also work with the HD60 S? Or do you need the S+?
Whenn i connect my camera on HD60S+ and i plug it via usb at me USB 3 TO MY PC for use camera as web camera i have 7 RED LIGHTS on my elgato and i have freezes for 2-3 seconds in my games. I have only 1 pc and i use my elgato only for camera. I read something for HDCP or overload . How can i fix this?
lol, thanks much! you have no idea how hard it is finding this

Thanks for the video! Suppose one uses this for setting up a DSLR as a webcam. Will this help up the quality of video in Zoom and Skype or is it basically still dependent on their servers and processing speed?
Yes absolutely. Your DSLR camera will definitely improve the image quality of your zoom calls when using it as a webcam. DSLR's have bigger sensors than the webcams or your phone for example. Also you have the ability to change lenses on the DSLR which is a major contribution to the image quality, for example if you want a blurry background (a shallow depth of field). But yes you are absolutely correct. Glad you enjoyed the video.
Hi, great video. Does the sound also come through live from the 80D through the hdmi via the Elgato gadget? Thanks.
Hi, glad you enjoyed the video. I usually have a separate audio input. I use the Rode PodMic connected to the Scarlett Solo 2-i-2 and use this source for audio. In my opinion its better to have a separate audio source as the camera's on board Mic isn't the best.
Thanks!
You're welcome,

Btw i see you like Christopher Nolan 🤙👌
That’s great glad I could help you with this! And yes Nolan is one of my favourite directors. How about you?

Hey bro i hVe same capture card and camera but have a slight delay on obs side
Does your canon 80d gives audio output through HDMI ?
my camera dont show up on the elgato stuff. when i connect my ps4 to all of this its fine. but not the camera. it dont show up. im using a canon rebel t100. please help.
Hey! Great video! Quick question: Do you have to have the elgato connected to a display for it to work? Or can it go directly from my camera to the elgato then to my computer/laptop?
Yeah that's right. You don't need it to be connected to the monitor for it to work. Thank you for the feedback.
Great video
Thank you.
Hey Brotha. Blessings for this video!! How do you. connect both the DSLR and. your PS4?
Hey mate, glad you enjoyed the video. I have a video on my channel called ‘How to Live-stream with Facecam’ check my pinned comment at the top of this comment section. In that video I show you how to do that. Hope it helps. Cheers
Nice tutorial! However, I have an issue, that I haven't been able to solve. My HD60s doesn't show up under the "video capture" option. My only option is the built in camera. I can successfully stream using the NDI source, but this limits me, because I'd like to select my HD60s for Zoom and for accepting a friend's "interview" invitation on eCamm Live. Why did you have the option to choose HD60s? I'm using a macbook version: 10.14.5 paired with a SONY a6100 digital camera and the latest version of OBS Studio. Thanks in advance for any advice you may have.
Hi, thanks for the feedback. I’m not sure why that is. I did have some issues finding the HD60s+ a couple of times. What I did was just reset and it appeared. It would usually show up under the video source in the options. Check if it shows up in QuickTime player to see if it is picking up the signal.
probs too late, but did you happen to have the elgato software downloaded?
(THIS WORKS, BUT ELGATO DELAY) elgato hd60 There is an audio delay when I use my microphone as separate audio track. I muted my elgato audio (shouldn't be any noise coming anyways), but I tried looking for solutions but nobody is using this method. Its usually them using their elgato for their console. Is it because my resolution is 1080 and I should be using 720? I've even tried having delay on my microphone track to try to sync it up with the elgato camera, but I can't delay my gameplay, there is a filter that only allows render delay up to 65 ms while audio delay filter goes up to 650 ms. This Method works for getting my elgato with my camera and onto obs, but I just can't find a soild solution to this elgato delay>???
hi i have this hd60s + and my camera is sony a6400 and go pro hero 6. sometimes when i stream my video capture just froze at first i thought it was my go pro camera so i bought a new camera which is the sony but then it happens again, is the elgato hd60s+ the problem ?
I’m not sure. It might be your PC! Make sure that your PC or Mac has the required specifications to stream with the capture card. Also check that your internet speed is good to stream in the resolution you are choosing to stream in. Maybe try a lower resolution. Have you tried streaming in a lower resolution?
nintendo switch plus canon camera setup in 1 capture card?
What about the visual delay?
Thank you for this, very useful. Hope you dont mind me asking. Do you actually need a 2nd monitor. I want to use my Canon M50 ii as a webcam for zoom and on OBS for recording my videos. Would i also need a 2nd monitor?. I have the Elgato HD60s +. Just ordered the dummy battery pack and the micro HDMI cable for the camera. Thanks again
You're welcome, glad you found it useful. No you don't need the monitor, just helps you to see your frame and focus.
@@AstenRegis Thank you Asten. Sorry to quickly ask you please. For my setup ie (Canon M50 ii, PC and HD 60 s +) To use on OBS for recording. Do I just , connect the HD60 s+ to pc via USB and the HDMI out from Canon to HD60S+ ?
Thanks! I thought you needed a cam link XD
The Cam Link is much easier to use, but you can use the HD60s+ too.
Yea I have a HD 60S
How and what setting can you change to fix the camera delay in OBS?
I am trying to figure out the same thing
When I tried streaming using the EOS utility, it would shut off after 30 minutes. Would the stream still cut off after 30 minutes using the capture card???? Thanks!
I haven’t had those issues. You need to check your camera’s setting.
Dude, thanks again so much for this video. I installed the firmware from Magic Lantern to use my old 550D and turns out I don't need to buy a new camera and created clean HDMI ! I had a question though. When I plug my camera into my elgato HD60S+, I get a very small screen with some black around it. I just wanted to confirm that is correct. It did not show up great right away like yours did, but I also have an older camera. It has black rims on the top and bottom. Also, do you stream in video mode or M mode. Thanks so much!
Glad to help! I’m not sure about the black rims. This might be to do with the aspect ratio of your video output. Is your camera set to 1920 x 1080p and your settings on OBS the same settings? If not that might be why! And yes, I would typically shoot in video mode.
@@AstenRegis Thanks! For some reason my Elgato program says it's 1080 but when I select my elgato in OBS I can only choose 720. Not sure what the problem is.
Hi Asten. I have observed that you capture at 1280x720… can you capture at 1920x1080 with canon 80D + elgato HD60 S + ??. I use EOS Webcam Utility Beta Software, and it limits the capture to 1024x576 when I work with OBS.
Hi Adrian, yes you can capture 1920x1080 on the Canon 80D. I just did a video on how to do this here: ruclips.net/video/JikXS5noE3o/видео.html
I'm haven't done any streaming with the EOS Webcam Utility so unfortunately not sure about that one mate.

Thank you very much for your answer. Your contribution was important to me !!
I am using the HD60S+ with Zoom on windows 10. It basically all works plug and play, but I can't figure out how to choose if zoom takes the audio from the HDMI or the audio inputjack of the HD60S+.
Does anyone know how zoom determines which audio it selects from the HD60S+ ?
I preferred not to install anything if not needed and just use the plug and play functionality of Windows 10.
Also I don't need to stream/capture whatever. No games. It's just for Zoom meetings with better video and sound
I’ve not used this capture card with zoom yet. I’ll need to experiment with this and I’ll make a video on the solution once I figure this out. Thanks for the question. If anyone knows how to solve this problem please help out Maurits.
For anyone that is using the canon t6i rebel how do I remove the display information?
Not sure about that model.
Great video. I'm using a CamLink 4k with my Panasonic G85 & Zoom on my Mac but I'm experiencing latency with the video. My Logitech webcam doesn't have any latency. I can't figure out how to resolve the issue.
Not sure what the problem is, but check the setting in your streaming software. In OBS click on the cog icon, then select open advanced audio. On the audio device (your microphone or desktop audio for example) whatever device is out of sync, you can change the Sync Offset (ms) - I usually find setting it to 100 ms works but test it yourself.
Hey Bro. I was trying to work out how to use my canon 750d for live streaming with OBS. But Elgato HD 60s taking only desktop screen but not my cam. I checked all the settings on OBS and Xsplit. Manually connecting with canon EOS WebCam Utility. I have gone through your video.. but no use.. plz help me out... Thanks

I have MacbookPro Mid 2014 i7, connected it with the HD60S+ and my Canon Mark IV 5D. Unfortunately, OBS is not streaming the cam. I'm adding the Video Capture, the HD Elgato is visible in the drop list, all looks fine, but OBS still shows a black screen. Any thoughts? Thank you
What Mac OS are you using on your Mid 2014 i7?
@@AstenRegis Hi Asten - Yes i7 Mojave. I managed to fix it. The issue was in the security & privacy settings in Mac. I had to allow (give permission) to OBS to use the Mac's Cam. It's working well now. Hope this can help other folks as well. By the way, I'm upgrading the MacOS just now to Big Sur. Hope it doesn't cause any issue. Thanks!
I’m getting no signal from capture card any ideas
Great Video Thanks! Is is possible to connect 2 HD60S+ to Mac?
Thank you. I’ve not tried this but it should be possible if you have one connected to your camera and another one linked to your games console. But again I’ve not actually connected 2 HD60s+ at the same time yet. When I’m streaming have my HD60s+ connected to PS4 and use the Elgato Camlink 4K to connect my camera.
Hey Asten, I have one question. I'm trying to connect my DSLR -> HD60 S+ -> iMac -> OBS Studio, just for live streaming (no gaming). I noticed that my iMac does not have an HDMI input port, and I was wondering which cable I should get to connect my HD60 S+ output to the iMac input. I've been reading online forums and some say that iMacs can't take in HDMI signals and can only send them out, so I'm really confused right now. Thanks a lot! :)
Hi mate, you need to connect the HDMI cable to from your DSLR to your HD60s+. Then connect your HD60S+ to your iMac using a USB C to USB cable. Please check this part of the video here:
02:45 - Connecting the camera to your iMac (or PC).
Also checkout my video on the Elgato Camlink 4K, I find this is the best way to connect your camera as it's a simple doogle that converts the HDMI out into a USB stick that connects into your iMac: ruclips.net/video/JPSnZpGTy1A/видео.html

Anytime mate!
hey Asten Regis, can you help me ? i want to new camera from sony , and i want to use as webcam but i need 4k 60 fps, can you help me with some tips ? so far I understood that I need a internal capture card like elgato.
Hey, yes a capture card willl help! There are many options for Sony cameras that can do what you need. If you want a mirrorless camera the Sony A7SIII is a great option. For purely video the Sony FX30 is good. A more Prosumer option is the Sony ZV E-10, but not sure if that one does 4K 60fps.
@@AstenRegis zv-e-10 in webcam mode know only 720p at 30 fps, and have a terrible crop on 4k for movie. almost 0 body stabilization. its not good , but i want to know sony a7s3 have 1080p 60 fps or 4k 60 fps in webcam mode with caputre card because elgato camlink know only 1080p at 60 fps . i know a7s3 make 4k 120 fps in movie and its best because its almost without a crop . best stabilization and auto-focus in video mode.
Also can i record a long videos from mirrorless cameras where they put a video time limit by using this capture card ?
Or do i need to use external recorders for this ?
I’ve not used it for this so I don’t know 100%. But I would suggest using an external recorder. The Atomos Ninja V is a great recorder as well as a great monitor.
@@AstenRegis but it is too much costly. Not affordable
I'm getting a delay when I plug mine in - did that happen to anyone else? I know I could just delay my audio 1 second to match the HD60 but then I'd also have to delay my video game footage 1 second as well (and then everything would be 1 second behind.. which I think would be annoying if I played spotify or pulled up a youtube clip on stream... which wouldn't have the 1 second delay).
in the 'Mixer' window in OBS try changing the Sync Offset (in ms) - I usually find setting it to 100 ms works but test it yourself see if it works.
Have you found a fix to this and if there is no fix how do you delay the video footage?
Do you know if the HD60 device will show up for nvidia broadcast or any app in general?
Not 100% sure
@@AstenRegis I could verify it does!
do you NEED the output hdmi for it to work?
If you’re talking about the HDMI connecting to the monitor then no.
You didn't mention what type of usb c you used. what was on the other end? usb 2.0?
I wish you showed that cord as well.
Hi. Can i connect my fujifilm xt 30 with elgato hd60s for livestreaming .
Or i should uae hd60s+.
Coz i have heard that hd60s does not have UHC support drivers and hd60s+ have it .

Hi, I' m not 100% sure about that particular camera. You'll need to check on the Elgato website if it's compatible. Also check that your camera has a clean HDMI output.
@@AstenRegis Hi.

Hey. Quick question, my capture card comes up but it comes up as a black screen and isn't displaying from my camera....any clue why?
What camera are you using and what streaming software are you using?
@@AstenRegis Thanks for the quick response legendary! Using a Sony a6600 and using my Mac. Have tried OBS and Game Capture 😭 defo using the micro HDMI port on my camera into my Elgato and outputting to monitor etc
@@KajolPhadnis in OBS in the sources window make sure you select 'Video Capture'. Alternatively also try StreamLabs OBS. I think it a little better than OBS. Check out my video on setting up your DSLR as a FaceCam using StreamLabs OBS here: ruclips.net/video/h6M6Ix6pCCM/видео.html
My camera doesn’t have a info button and idk what to do
So you'll probably get more traction on the video right now if you change the title as the HD60S + being the CamLink alternative.
Right now the Elgato CamLink 4k is being price gouged to around 400 dollars. Currently you can buy the Elgato HD60s + is only 80 dollars abouts different in pricing with the added ability to use it as a capture card for Console gaming basically.
The HD60S + is basically the 4k CAMLINK fuzed with the HD60S and right now you can direct buy from the website at 199.99 which is half the cost of the price gougers.
You don't need the monitor connected I'm guessing since all the info is going through the USB Cable correct?
That’s a great idea, thank you. Yes you’re right, you don’t need the monitor output. You can just use the capture card to connect your camera to your computer. Thank you for the feedback, much appreciated.
@@AstenRegis Yeah I was about to buy a camlink and 4k Mirrorless and found out the camlink was overpriced.
Luckily the HD60S + is essentially the same thing. And if you buy from Corsair directly you can use the Honey App to get a discount of 20 dollars and it get shipped for less than 200 USD
@@gunz_guntaku I purchased the Cam Link 4K a while ago but it hasn't arrived yet. Seems to be sold out on most websites. Thanks for sharing that information mate. That will be very helpful for people.
@@AstenRegis Still for someone like me I don't really need the added features of the HD60 S + I'm guessing they are using the same components internally as the Cam Link and that's where there's a shortage. It sucks that it's about 70-80 dollars more than the camlink but that's a hell of a lot better than 400 dollars for the CamLink from the Gougers.
Elgata should be addressing the gouging and shortages.
@@gunz_guntaku thanks for shouting out honey, I've literally been trying to find out any place where I can get it under 200 dollars, its was 7 dollars under after tax but 7 dollars is 7 dollars lol
My dad and i are trying to do this exact setup but anytime we click on video capture device there’s no selection for elgato game capture as you have here in your selections. We’ve installed the OBS link from the elgato site as well as the game capture program from their site as well. Any ideas why it wouldn’t appear under the video device selections?
I’m not sure why. I have had this problem a couple of times, but just rebooted the Mac and when I logged on it would work. Have you tried using Game Capture instead of Video Capture? That may work.
Asten Regis will test it out thank you for the quick response.
You’re welcome mate. Hope it helps.
I have this same issue. Maybe it has something to do with me having a macbook vs a desktop? I don't know...
Hello Mr Asten i like to buy second hand cameras & where can i buy or find them or can u do it for me co's am in Uganda- Africa thanks
Click the links in the description of this video. Ebay do second hand items.
I'm using a cannon eos600D but even after turning it to manual focus the box doesn't dissapear for some reason
I’m not sure why. Check to see if the 600D has a clean HDMI output. It may not.
@@AstenRegis Thanks for the reply!
How do I also connect my switch/ps5/Xbox?
Haven’t got hold of the PS5, Switch or Xbox so can’t tell you for sure!
Does this work for cannon 70D??
I’m not 100% sure. You need to check if it has the clean HDMI and follow go steps in the video.
Hey man, when i connect it all up my mic doesn't work on obs. Plz help
Hey, have you checked that your mic is selected on the audio settings in OBS?
@@AstenRegis On my old camera it would be fine coming through onto obs on the video capture but since i got this new one its has just not been coming through
hallo.. eos 1000D work?
Not 100% sure. You’ll have to check on Elgato website!
is this better then the 4k elgato usb thingy?
Not nessarily. The USB Cam Link 4K is a lot more striaght forward for DSLR webcam use. This device can also be used as a streaming capture card. See my video on the USB Cam Link 4K here: ruclips.net/video/JPSnZpGTy1A/видео.html
can u use two canons simultaneously with ubs
as far as I know you can only connect 1 camera to 1 capture card at a time. If you need another one you'll probably need to get another capture card.
