Unfortunate these RL Stein videos get copyright struck so bad because they're the best advertisements. Never saw or read anything but Goosebumps but these make me wanna watch this.
14:21 This phenomenon is called "Parentification," where a parent relies on a child to act like a parent and take on parental responsibilities. So here, the parents are asking their child to take care of a younger sibling as if they are the parent instead. There's also emotional parentification, where the child has to take on a parent's emotional baggage (almost like the child is acting like the parent's therapist in a way). It's considered maladaptive but depending on circumstances can also be adaptive (like with the points you made about it, like paying the child to babysit once in a while). I love listening to your videos on RL Stine's work while I'm drawing! Thank you for this October video!
@@vaniillazillaI’m sorry to hear about that, you didn’t deserve that Same thing happened in the Proud Family shows, Trudy and Oscar often force Penny to babysit Bebe and CECE and often miss out on hanging out with her friends and boyfriend. There’s an episode where they hire a nanny in one episode who not only likes the job but is really good at it. But Trudy whined about how “she felt replaced, wah wah wah”. Instead of having a balance of keeping the nanny and keeping Trudy reassured, they fire the nanny. They continue to parentify Penny. These parents have other options, it’s not like Oscar has a brother who doesn’t have a job, doesn’t have a girlfriend and is still living with Sugar Mama (sarcasm)
Thank you for mentioning the r slur and talking about it being weird to hear in older media even though it was more normalized then! I rarely hear people mention this when talking about older movies or reviewing/summarizing them like this.
@@jackie9397 Same here! I was always taught that it's a slur and should never ever be said. Even though all my classmates would say it regularly I knew from my parents that it's wrong to say. (for reference I was born in 1999 and this movie came out in 2007, for those that still think it's not a big deal and is something only recently known as a slur)
This used to air on Cartoon Network all the time during October. And I'd watch it so often, alongside all the other Halloween-y stuff they aired around that time, like Goosebumps and Scary Godmother and that Sleepy Hollow movie with the haunted pumpkin and all the Halloween specials for the shows on Cartoon Network at that time.
Ah yes, my blocked out childhood trauma movie! Seriously, just the concept of not thinking about a monster causing it to manifest TERRIFIED me as a kid! I couldn’t even finish it the first time I watched it, and I still remember how "grown-up" I felt when I finally got the courage to do so years later 😅
This movie shaped me growing upppp. I related to Cassie so much. That computer being shut off scene was what stuck with me the most. Now i wanna rewatch this
you are my comfort youtuber and remind me to never let go of my favourite things and style! :')) I'm turning 27 soon and I'm constantly resisting conformation to becoming a normal looking adult with normal interests
I remember this movie coming out. My siblings and I watched it so many times. It sucks cause Cassie was kind of an awful person, but as an oldest goth sibling, this was constantly parentified. It was so cathertic watching her be awful.
Endings like that are, in my mind, classic RL Stine endings. In both goosebumps books as well as tv episodes and specials, they beat the evil, tie up the emotional growth of the protagonists, then the evil is shown to still exist, but be someone else's problem. The Goosebumps "Cat" tv special in particular was too much for me as a kid because of that, but I think you'd love it if you haven't seen it yet
I remember watching this movie on Cartoon Network when I was 13, it has practically been a Halloween staple ever since. If it’s any consolation, they later censored out the R slur during later airings so I’m glad someone came to their senses at the network
GODDDD this movie terrified me sm as a kid, i rewatched it recently and the nostalgia hit me like a truck. i never remembered that this was an r.l. stine movie for some reason. i thought it was some random tv movie from disney or something.

I was so obsessed with this movie when it came out, but then it got deleted off the DVR and I couldn’t remember the name and nobody ever knew what I was talking about, so I never saw it again. THANK YOU!!!!
The parents are the absolute worst, and I’m saying this as a 31 year old. the fact that her little brother always gets away with things and the parents don’t do anything about it except make excuses is the reason why I haven’t watched that movie more than once. Cassie is almost a full grown woman and her parents think it’s ok for her little brother to keep going in her room and not even allow her privacy. What if he barged into her and she was naked or half naked. If this was reality that would be considered an example of poor parenting and CPS would be getting involved.
Looking foward to another video from you as I need something after a break up with my partner so we can work on ourselves again. So this is definitely a helpful distraction.
OH and when I was in high school/middle school in addition to Ghoul's Rule I always made sure to watch Fun Size with Victoria Justice if you haven't seen it it's a classic.
this movie used to scare me so bad as a little kid with undiagnosed ocd intrusive thoughts lol the idea of thinking something into reality still freaks me out even now
this movie for the life of me, I could not remember so thank you for covering this. But the movie as a kid with the scene of the boy being trapped in the eggs was just the most disgusting scene ever 🤢
oh my god so im like watching this while my brain powers up for the day and the first clip of edited b-roll just started playing...i am cracking up. i hate that you had to keep fighting copyright claims but the end result is honestly delightful im having a great time
I LOVED this movie as a kid, I watched it all the time. I totally forgot about a lot of this, but it all came back so vividly. I also read Chills in the Dead of Night but had no idea it was connected to this outside of being Haunting Hour! I don't even know how you figure that out, lol.
i love this movie, weird fact the pizza guy in the movie was actually played by a cousin of mine! one of my favorite halloween movies since i was a kid
I was actually working on a video about this movie for my Halloween special this year, but I decided not to. Glad you were able to make one for everyone!

Fun fact about the papa john's pizza in the movie. When I bought this movie on DVD there a paper inside advertising the movie and Papa Johns coupon of getting a free cheese sticks. Though the coupon already expired since 2007. So i guess the papa john's pizza guy was in the movie just advertise Papa John LOL
